Still good food and good service. Prices still reasonable. Many other items have not tried yet

Note to self... This is a dumpling house, not a dim sum place. Although they have many dim sum like options. Best part was no wait on Sunday when we showed up at 10:30AM. Food was very tasty and the servers were on top of things. By the time we left more people showed up but there were still tables available for any walk ins.

I was craving some Chinese food and decided to stop by. I was really in the mood for a good fried rice, so I ordered the Chinese broccoli with preserved meat fried rice - and it definitely hit the spot. I also ordered the golden fried shrimp and pork soup dumplings. The shrimp were light and crispy, and the dumplings were so juicy and flavorful. Everything was delicious. I noticed that if you dine in, the portions seem much larger compared to takeout. The prices are reasonable, especially considering how generous the portions are. I ate until I was full and still had enough shrimp to take home. There are plenty of tables inside, and I didn't have to wait at all. They do take card and parking is easy - either outside building or under parking garage. Definitely would recommend if you're craving authentic chinese food.

This is one of my fave restaurants. I've been here more times than I could count (as well as in other locations) but always forget to leave reviews. Part of me wants to gatekeep them as they are busy enough already. LOL! The food is amazing. Some of my faves are the yang chow fried rice, salted pork, beef wraps, shumai and dumplings, as well as their fried coconut buns. They have multiple locations and this one is clean, organized and has a bigger space. I absolutely recommend this place!

I had not been to Mama Lu's in many years. I estimate about fifteen years. I remember the food being very savory and the ambience bright and bustling. I had high hopes for a repeat experience. We came here for my birthday celebration very early one morning. I believe the restaurant had just opened so they appeared not to be prepared for a large group this early in the day Still, we were seated right away and our orders were taken quickly. It took a bit for our orders to arrive but when they did the plates were hearty and overflowing with food. My order consisted of the following: * Fish ball with vegetable soup * Veggie egg rolls * Veggie dumplings The egg rolls were tasty but a bit too crisp. The soup was very hearty and flavorful. The dumplings were fine. I plan on visiting Mama Lu's again but I am hoping that the food will be superb just as it was years ago. Plenty of parking behind the restaurant. Enjoy your visit!

This is a newer location but just down the street from the original. Large portions, delicious food, made fresh and fast. My friends and I came at lunch time on a Saturday and didn't have to wait. Amazing! Our favorites were the dumplings and beef wrap. Tried the Indonesian rice because someone else on Yelp said it was good. My party did not care for it. Lots of rice and decent protein. Uncertain of the flavor. Anyway, next time sticking with XLB, other pan fried dumplings, shen jiang bao and the beef wrap. Very reasonably priced for what you get and the ambiance. They had Big 10 basketball on too, so we were happy to watch some basketball, talk and stuff ourselves.

deep fried sole... so crispy... so good

I was in the area running errands & decided to grab a late lunch here. The place was half full and there was only one staff in sight. He was the host, the server & the busboy. Surprisingly, he handled the whole restaurant quite efficiently. The crispy sole was perfectly fried. I also ordered the crispy noodles with beef. I love that there was a good portion of beef... but the crispy noodle was too soggy because they over sauced the dish.. which also made the dish too salty. This dish would have been perfect if they put some restraint on the sauce.

Kung pao chicken & bowl of rice

I hadn't been to this restaurant in a long time because it was always packed, but I decided to give it another try. We came on a Sunday afternoon and were surprised to see plenty of open tables and no wait. We ordered the kung pao chicken, juicy dumplings, two bowls of white rice, and a lemon iced tea. The kung pao chicken had good flavor, but I wish it came with more peanuts and veggies, there were only a few pieces of green pepper and mostly onions. The dumplings tasted good too, but they barely had any juice inside, which was a little disappointing. For what you get, the prices feel a bit high compared to similar places. The entrées don't come with rice, so you have to add it for $1.25 per bowl. Also, the lemon iced tea is $5.75 with no refills, which seems excessive. Service wasn't great either. No one checked on us at all until it was time to pay. Overall, the food was decent but between the pricing and the lack of service, I won't be rushing back.

SHANGHAI STYLE CHOW MEIN - used udon noodles instead of the orange noodles - bland
    Rosanna L.

It's been a while since we've last been here. My fiance was craving Shanghai style chow mein and this was the only place I could think of that served it so we decided to give it another try. We order the Shanghai style chow mein, beef wrap and pork pot stickers. The entire meal was very underwhelming. The Shanghai style chow mein wasn't authentic. They used udon noodles instead of the orange noodles and the flavor was pretty lacking. The beef wrap has got to be the worst I've had. The beef was very dry and there was very little flavor and very little cucumber. The little hoison sauce that it did have was bitter. The pot stickers were grilled nicely with a good crunch but it also lacked flavor. It tasted better with the sweet vinegar. Overall was disappointed in our meal. Service was ok. The lady did come and refill our waters but other than that we barely saw the server. Located in a plaza with plenty of parking in the rear and underground. Unfortunately,I probably won't be back.

This Mama Lu's location was so disappointing it made me wonder if it was serving the same food as the original location. The spicy wonton flavor was spicy and salty with some sweetness but the wonton itself was disappointing. The pork inside wasn't fresh. We also for the sesame chicken. There was barely any chicken. I think it was just fried batter glued together with the tiniest pieces of chicken. Chow mein was decent but you really can't mess it up. The soup dumplings were sub par. They felt smaller than the original location and most of them didn't even have soup in them or there were holes. And again the pork inside wasn't fresh. There's this slightly old pork flavor to it which bothers me. I would not come back to this location. Extremely disappointing! The only positive was that the portion sizes were big and the chow mein was good.

I've been here a few times and there's good and bad days, but the food was good this time! Unfortunately now they use QR codes for menus which I'm not a fan of. Overall I enjoyed the food and it came out quick.

I been passing this location so much that I decided to stop today and I was not disappointed at all the food was perfect. I had the chicken sweet and sour what I love about it that the chicken was crispy and I love that texture of food, the white rice was so delicious. We also got the pork dumplings . The food was amazing, the price also good and I will love to come here and have the soup next time. Come and support this restaurant in Alhambra.

Been going here for years, same great taste. Food is always flavorful and portion size is fairly large when you dine in. Tofu with enoki mushrooms and the Chilean sea bass with preserved veggies are still my go to dishes! Highly recommend.

It never looked super busy, so I kept putting it off. Big mistake--don't let that happen to you like it did to me! We finally went in and ordered a bunch: the Spicy Beef Shank Rice Noodle, Rattan Pepper Sliced Beef Rice Noodle, Popcorn Chicken, Sesame Balls, Popping Brown Sugar Rice Cake, Fried Milk Rolls, and Fried Taro Balls. Everything was outstanding. The noodles were amazing--fresh, chewy, with high-quality ingredients you can really taste in every bite. The broths had that perfect spicy kick without being overwhelming, and the beef was super tender. My wife and I couldn't stop eating; literally everything we tried was delicious. She especially loved the Fried Taro Balls--they were crispy outside, soft and flavorful inside. The sides/snacks were all hits too: the Popcorn Chicken was perfectly seasoned and crispy, the Sesame Balls and Popping Brown Sugar Rice Cake brought great texture and sweetness, and the Fried Milk Rolls were a fun surprise. Service was top-notch--shoutout to Icey, who took such great care of us. One of the best and most attentive experiences we've had in a while. Beef roll looked more like a giant taco but was also excellent. In the most convoluted sequence of restaurant occupancy in the annals of Chinese restaurants in the United States, Noodle King has supplanted Rice Hero/Hero's Kitchen/In Joy Lunch in Alhambra in the space formerly occupied by a different restaurant named Noodle King in the 1980s and 1990s. There's a lot to explain here. I used the compound name for the previous occupant because the name on the front entrance was Rice Hero, the back entrance said Hero's Kitchen and the digital menus said In Joy Lunch. I say the old restaurant was supplanted, not replaced, because the old restaurant sort of still hangs around, with a tiny sheet of paper with all 3 old names taped to the front door, and many old dishes still on the menu. Why the three names I don't know. In Joy Lunch had been a popup that operated during lunch hour serving Dongbei food in a space in YYDS Fried Strings in Rosemead. In Joy Lunch then struck out on their own last year with this space in Alhambra, adding the new names. The old Noodle King had been a Taiwanese noodle fixture before moving out in 2003. Since the new Noodle King also serves some of the Rice Hero/Hero's Kitchen/In Joy Lunch items, the same name seems to be just a coincidence. But despite holdover menu items the staff clearly say they're a new restaurant, with the Noodle King himself greeting you at the front entrance and the signage in both front and back now say Noodle King.

Yum! One of my to-go places in 626. It is a hole-in-the-wall in a Chinese plaza with maybe 7-8…read moretables. Service is quick and the staff speaks English. They specializes in Cantonese style wonton soup and congee. The wonton soup is my favorite and one of the best I've had in SoCal. I like getting the "two-item combo" noodle soup ($16) where you can pick two items (ex. wonton and beef stew) in a bowl of egg noodles. Delicious! The bowl also comes with a hefty portion of Chinese broccoli. The last couple times I came for lunch the place was pretty full but since service is fast you shouldn't have to wait very long, if at all. They take credit card. I've seen some reviews talk about it is dirty here? I never experienced or noticed that on my visits. It is no different from any other authentic, hole-in-the-wall style Chinese restaurant. Delicious, authentic, fast, and affordable. What else could you ask for?

If you want authentic Cantonese pork and preserved egg porridge or congee, continue looking. This…read moreplace is NOT it. FFS, they use super dry, super old chicken as the protein to make the congee with. Everyone knows you ought to use pork. There's zero pork in their congee! And for the pan-fried rolls, they are store-bought. They are not the steamed kind where authentic restaurants make in-house. They buy the $2.99 kinds from an Asian supermarket, slap some cooking oil and soy sauce onto the wok and call it a day. There's not even a corn starch slurry to thicken the sauce! It's like they either don't know how to cook good food or they think you the consumer can't disconcern what good food is. To add insult to injury, they charge you $11.50 for these piss-poor rice rolls when most restaurants add them to a breakfast combo for free. So you end up spending $11.50 for the porridge and another $11.50 for the rice rolls separately. Money gauging much?? Lastly, they charge 25 cents for every to-go container. They gave me two for my two items, so when the bill came, they tacked on 50 cents to the bill. How tacky. Spending money on disappointing food is another level of hurt. FAIL IN EVERY ASPECT. PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT COME HERE.

I came to 101 Noodle Express in Alhambra for a late dinner on a Thursday night. It's located in the…read moresame building as Alhambra Valley Bowl. From the outside, you can't tell the inside has really good space with booths plus tables and chairs, but it does. They weren't super busy at the time... about 5 tables occupied. I was greeted right away by the one server who was working the entire floor. Interior was clean and well lit. Atmosphere was comfortable. Menu has a variety of options... boiled dumplings, pan-fried dumplings, steamed mini buns, stir-fried noodles, regular noodles, rolls & pancakes, side dishes, rice, soup, and beverages. They also have frozen food to-go (just two items... dumplings and dezhou chicken). I got one Steamed Mini Buns (aka Xiao Long Bao), one Stir-Fried Noodles with pork, one Lamb Noodles Soup (with hand torn noodles), and one Jasmine Green Tea with honey. Yes, this seems like a lot of food for one person. I'm not a stranger to bringing food home for another meal. *Steamed Mini Buns - juicy with flavorful pork filling, adequate skin thickness, good size buns *Stir-Fried Noodles with pork - best dish out of the 3, good balance between pork, veggies, and noodles, mild spice level was perfect, portions were reasonable for the price *Lamb Noodles Soup - great amount of lamb and noodles, lamb was tender, noodles were a tad mushy on the edge... they need to be firmer, soup was savory *Jasmine Green Tea with honey - good size cup, tea was a bit bitter, probably needs more honey Food came out steaming hot and timely. Staff and service were wonderful. Yan, the server, was patient and helpful. He did an amazing job working the entire floor by himself. Thank you Yan! Highly recommend this place for their pan-dried and soup noodles. I would come back for more pan-fried noodles and try their pan-fried dumplings. Btw, cash, Zelle, or Venmo payment ONLY for bill total under $50. Bring cash if you don't plan to eat lots.

I have had ones in previous visits that the beef was chewy, not tender. You have a choice of regular noodles or hand torn noodles. Hand torn noodles are more filling since the noodles are much thicker than the regular noodles. They are both good. It is a matter of preference. The minced pork with noodles (aka Jia Jiang mien) is also good. For this visit, I did not order dumplings. But their dumplings are usually good. The service is adequate but don't expect good service.
