A tiny, unassuming place with excellent, handmade food. The best corn tortillas I have had (hecho a mano) since the Mercado Libertad in Guadalajara back in the day. Duh, the abuela/chef in residence is from Guadalajara. Fresh pasillas for the rellenos, etc. Even better: the service. Again, a little, unassuming place, but...I formed the thought of what I wanted, glanced at the waitress, who read my mind and was right there. I own a restaurant, and I would be thrilled beyond belief if my crew were that attentive. A great day off lunch. read more

First off the environment is super cute and the staff is friendly. The salsa they give u is flaming hot bit sooo good. I got a combo plate if tamale and taco it came with a soup that's really flavorful and fresh with broth and vegetables and a noodles of some kind. *side note my drink was never left empty :) they kept it full the main dish was really yummy.home made taco shell with the taco was great *only bad thing was I found 2 tooth picks in the taco while I was chewing thank god I didn't swallow them. Tamale was ok give it a 2 out if 5 kinda hard and over steamed . Over all the food is good service was good THE only reason I rate 2 is because of the tooth picks that's not safe someone that didn't know they use toothpicks to fry the taco. And I didn't give a 1 because they made it right by apologizing and taking it off my bill. I'm not one looking for a free meal but they were nice enough to do that without me even asking. read more

I ate here on a recommendation. The waitress was nice. The free soup was delicious. But then came the fajitas to kill it all. Overcooked meats and bland as can be. Worst fajitas I've ever had. I don't know if that was jamaica in my glass or 12 ounces of corn syrup. read more

Love everything about this restaurant! Chips are fresh, Salsa is great and they have 3 different kinds! The green salsa was our favorite! My wife and I both had Chile Verde con Huevos (for the 2nd time) which is excellent! The dish had no to little fat, just mostly meat! Rice and beans are pretty good! My kids had quesadillas with rice & beans and there was nothing left. Even though it was close to closing time on a Sunday afternoon, my brother & his friend joined us and she served them graciously....they even welcomed another couple in right before closing time! That's good customer service. The servers (a man & a woman) were both very nice and helpful. Nothing bad to say about this place!! Maybe just a wish list of homemade tortillas!!! =) read more

I love this little place. I used to live in Salinas and occasionally now stop here when driving from LA to Carmel for lunch or breakfast. The restaurant is run by a family, and the servers always make you feel so welcome. It's your classic Mexican fair at standard prices, but the flavors and kindness of the staff ensures that it always has that nice "comfort food" quality of Mexican cuisine. Very good for lunch - reasonable prices, quick service, & perfect size combo meals with two items, cup of soup, rice & beans. Authentic food when you just want a basic plate of tasty goodness and have many nearby choices - this one holds it's own. Small seating area and you can check out the cooler next to the cash register where they store some of the cold food items so you know its stored properly. Have eaten here many times - including this past week -and never had a bad meal. I live for this place! Whenever someone asks for a recommendation for Mexican food, this is the place to go! It's family run, the food is always yummy, and the service is excellent. The prices are outstanding, as well. My favorite thing to get is the chicken sope or a shrimp tostada. They have 3 delicious salsas - a mild green tomatillo, a medium roasted tomato, and a spicy pick de gallo type. This was the 2nd time I had eaten there. It was terrible. The food was like slop. How can you mess up chilaquiles. Yes tasted like chips with chili sauce and mushy eggs.My friend ordered Chili Verde and eggs it was so bad that had to hurry home to use the little room . The first time I went to Mama Lupita's was when I was interviewing for a job. It is so good! I love their tacos and burritos. Their salsa is delicious and as well as their soup. Absolutely delicious! My husband picked up our to-go order yesterday with our daughter. He said that the staff was very friendly and helpful. The food is out of this world amazing! Definitely get their carnitas and fresh homemade corn tortillas. We both had carne asada nachos and the fresh guacamole. My husband had the carnitas taco, and it was excellent! I visited this place about 2 weeks ago and I have got to say this place is pretty good. My dad isnt into trying new places so he had a negative attitude but me and my baby bro are fans of this place. The restuarant is pretty small but we got greeted as soon as we entered. we were served chips n salsa but a little disappointing. The chips aren't home made, maybe store bought n the salsa was lacking a little heat. So the waiter asked us for our drink order, served us our drink and after a few minutes we ordered our food. As we waited we were all served a small bowl of caldo. OMG this soup had a lot of flavor and just really hit the spot. A few minutes went by and then our food order arrived. I didn't know this place makes homemade tortillas so i was very surprised when i received my plate. I got a taco de asada and a enchilada. I LOVED the homemade corn tortillas. My brother got a enchilada, taco and Chile relleno and was very pleased with his meal. My dad was being a sour face so all he got was a plain quesidilla but noted that tortilla must have been homemade too cuz it tasted different then the gummy tortillas that some Mexican restaurant's offer. Nothing special about the rice and beans but they were decent. My brother really liked the horchata cuz he noticed that was homemade too!
