Amazing!! I have finally found a great little place for Mexican food that is authentic, delicious, thoughtful and home made at its best. The tortillas..... handmade. I had the Albondiga soup (large) and it was very reasonably priced and too big for me to even finish. Nothing fancy, just simply delicious with fresh vegetables and and warm broth that warms anyone on a cold day like today. My co-workers had the chile relleno burrito and that was amazing as well. Big, not sloppy, hot and with just the right amount of beans, rice and delicious and fresh chille relleno with oozy cheese to melt anyone's heart. My fellow yelpers, this is the spot for Mexican food and I will definitely will be coming back again and again for home cooked meals by friendly and attentive staff. read more

I eat lunch here about three time a week. Oscar is usually there and provides excellent service. The food is so original, reminds me of my jefitas cooking, and the corn tortillas are the best. I usually order nopales and eggs with just beans no rice and make me some tacos with the great salsa. The red is spicier than the green tomatillo. The chile Colorado is very tasty and spicy too. The chile rellenos are off the hook as well! Really anything you asked to be made is done like moms home cooking. Take out is available as well and many of the county workers call in and pickup. Sorry, just 3 stars for me. The food was good, not great but what cost them one star for me was that I ordered a carne asada quesadilla. The lady at the time of telling the cook asked me if it was a chicken quesadilla and I said no, it's carne asada and she tells the cook right in front of me CARNE ASADA. I got home and guess what I had? (insert trollface here) CHICKEN Also, what is the deal with the salsa and chips, chips are just bagged cheap tortilla chips instead of fresh home made and fresh salsa that is not seating inside of a fridge. Don't worry people, we can pay for good chips and salsa. Was in search of a good chile relleno while visiting Monterey CA. Was told by the concierge at our hotel, that (sadly) there was no place in Monterey for decent Mexican fare and that we would have to make a quest to Salinas. We did and we were glad. Mama Lupitas is very casual. Their salsa is really good...fresh with a good cilantro flavor. The chile rellenos did not disappoint! They were awesome ... Amazing... I know my way around Salinas as much as an eskimo in the dessert. Yelped one place that seemed to not be anywhere to be found but remembered seeing this place on my way. Drove back and what a great suprise. Small, nice, clean.. super friendly staff/owners. I tried the chilaquiles which was good. Corn chips still slightly crunchable but emersed in some sauce with scrambled eggs, cheese, side of rice and beans. It was good. I'll equate it to 'Breakfast Nachos'. The salsa was spot on delicious and I can't wait to go back and try more if ever in the area again. read more

This is my place to come to when my first choice is packed. Love the home made corn tortillas, and to the guy who said they're not home made, you wouldn't know home made if it bit you. Soup comes before your meal. I tried the chicken mole special one day and it was wonderful, caution: They cook it bone in for the full flavor. This is probably the only place in Salinas you can get GOOD menudo any day of the week. I say good because I've gotten so so menudo at other places. It does have the prerequisite layer of grease on top, but once you get rid of that, the rest is awesome. The staff is very pleasant and once you go there a few times they get to know you. The menudo was good, but the homemade corn tortillas were slightly undercooked. The bean & cheese burrito was very good, served in a soft flour tortilla. However, the tortilla chips were stale. I picked up this order first thing in the morning, so tortilla chips should've been fresh and crispy, but weren't. read more

I loved this place. I ordered a combination chili relleno and beef taco with beans and rice. The taco was crispy and made the way I do them at home with toothpicks and deep fryer. The relleno was the best ever. A small bowl of homemade soup was such a nice touch especially since it was raining. I will be visiting this restaurant whenever I'm in town. read more

This is now my go to place for breakfast in Salinas. Absolutely awesome Mexican breakfasts! My favorite is two eggs over cheese enchiladas. I think they call it the Pancho Villa. But everything we've tried is outstanding: Huevos Ranchero, Chiliquilles. It's all good! Service is also always on point. read more

Tried for the very first time, 3 stars! I like to travel so I get to eat a lot of authentic food, this one eehhh, I say it's worth the try. Flautas- tortilla was hard and too thick, beef was not tender. Hooray for the awesome guacamole. Burrito- I ordered chicken with rice and cheese only. Turns out, it also had refried beans in it even when I heard the cashier told the chef NO BEANS :/ Pollo Asado- tender and tasty. Side salad was just for decoration as it was bland and soggy. I have lived here for three years and this is now the fourth restaurant to occupy this space. Mama Lupita's, which is the same management as the old Mi Tierra on Gabilan, is pretty decent as cheap Mexican food goes. They bring out the free chips and salsa, and a free cup of soup. The huevos con chorizo is really good, really greasy but what do you expect. Also the super burrito is huge and cheap. Only one cook in the kitchen means that if there are a lot of people there you are out of luck in the speed department. read more

This is anice restaurant. I don't know much about the history of the restaurant but all I need to know is that they made a good Chorizo and Egg burrito. When I go to a Hispanic restaurant I try to always ask for that dish. There are not a lot of places that have Chorizo so every chance I have I go at it like there is no tomorrow. The only drawback I had with this place is that they served the food too damn hot that it burned my tongue and it didn't make me fully appreciate the savory taste of CHORIZO. read more

I go here a lot for lunches. It's good service and fast and inexpensive and great food. Carne asada to die for. chimichangas! Oh, my my. And the enchiladas ... They cater too, I had them cater an event and we had enchiladas left over i put them in my freezer and microwaved them wow, wonderful to the last one. Food is good and taste Mexican as it should. The salsas are very tasty not too sweet or bland. The service is great and friendly. I got a torta de milanessa(chicken) the chicken was moist and not over cooked. I didn't care too much for the bread they used but other than that I like the food. Came with chips, salsa, small plate of delicious rice and beans, big bowl of soup with half an ear of corn, huge chunks of carrot, squash, patato, choyote and beef. Great soup. We don't eat out often since we are a family of 5, and our youngest has severe food allergies. Mama Lupitas is one of our favorite places on the occasion we do go out, but more often we order food to take home. They always remember us, and our little ones food precautions.
