So glad to see Mama Lu's open in Arcadia! It's located in a great location with easy parking, and has the same authentic and delicious Chinese food I've grown to love at all Mama Lu's. I've been to other Mama Lu's locations in Alhambra, Pasadena, Monterey Park, and West Covina, but this one in Arcadia can take the trophy with their great service and hot wok-fired dishes. I visited on the weekend with my fiancé, absolutely craving Chinese food, and we knew Mama Lu's had everything we wanted! We got our usuals: their Juicy Pork Dumplings (comes with 8 dumplings), Shanghai Rice Cake, Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings, and Egg Tofu Mixed Mushrooms, with an Ice Jasmine Green Tea. The table also automatically had a kettle of hot tea and salted roasted peanuts, too! Now I should note I have an undying love for Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings, and have had my fair share of them all over SGV, so I know ball. They don't play with it here, they make great Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings, and had all the right things I was looking for - the crispy exterior crunch on the outside, juicy chicken on the inside, wok-tossed in peppers and green onion for a vibrant kick and a great pairing with rice. 10 our of 10! Singapore Style Chow Fun - Disappointly, this dish was so dry. Sweet & Sour Chicken - Tasty sauce but the chicken is in small bite sizes which minimizes the amount of meat in the breading - not a fan. After ordering our food, within 5 minutes all our food started coming out. Service was quick! I thought the fish fillets were plump, tender, with tons of flavor. The green onion pancake was crispy. The green beans were crunchy and flavorful. The pork chops were crunchy and delicious. The soup dumplings were juicy inside with a thin wrapper on the outside. I like how the juice bursts into your mouth. There were two dishes that could be better: the chow mein noodles were just ok. It's just not made with the type of noodles that I'm used to. Mama Lu's is a great alternative to that fancier place (you know what I'm talking about) when you want large portions served up quickly. Service is curt but I didn't mind. We were promptly seated after some waiting list confusion and served hot tea and sugared peanuts. We wanted leftovers so between the two of us we ordered quite a few items. The miss for me were the Juicy Pork Dumplings. They were lacking the punch of flavor that I was looking for. The Shanghai Style Chow Mein and Garlic Chinese Broccoli were simple yet tasty. I am a huge fan of Hot and Sour Soup and I have to say that this was my favorite item we ordered, and comes in an extra large bowl. Decided to visit this business again last week and had a terrible experience. When I first entered the restaurant, I notified one of the waitresses that we have a table of 10 coming in. She told me she'd put my party down on her list and to have a seat in the waiting area. 5 minutes later, another waitress (or she could be the manager) said, "NUMBER 46!....NUMBER 46!...I SAID NUMBER 46!" She then looks me dead in the eyes and says snarkily, "What number are you guys?!". To which I respond, "The other waitress never gave us a ticket number. She just said she'd put our party size down on the list. We're the party with 10 people." The rude worker then proceeds to ask, "Well out of the 10 people in your party, how many have arrived?" My grandma proceeds to say, "8" while my auntie says, "9" because one of them miscounted. The rude worker then points at the both of them and says, "so which one of you is telling the truth?!" Literally WHAT?! Is that how you treat customers? Accuse them of being liars? To the manager/rude worker: 你的父母教过你礼貌吗？(No manners; do better.) The front door is also locked during business hours for some odd reason... so if you park in the front, you'll have to walk all the way around the building to the back to enter the restaurant. This Arcadia location is one of the newer ones, so when my friends suggested coming here, I was excited to check it out. Parking in the back was surprisingly not very easy, considering I came on a rainy day during lunch. There are only about five parking spots in front of the restaurant. There are other parking spots nearby, but most of them are marked for the bank next door. The layout is pretty much the same as the old Tasty Garden that used to be at this location. When I went in, the restaurant wasn't very busy, and I was able to choose any open table I wanted. As I walked in, I barely saw any servers around. We ordered xiao long bao, beef rolls, Yang Chow fried rice, and French-style beef tenderloin. Overall, everything was good. The xiao long bao was juicy, the fried rice was tasty and not too oily, and the beef was tender. The beef roll, however, was just okay. The service was decent, especially if you don't mind waiting, since you don't see the servers around very often. One observation, the seating along the wall seem to slope down. For short people like my Mom and I (LOL), it was very uncomfortable to sit there. We had to sit on the regular chairs instead. Lady staff members were friendly and attentive. Menu had a great selection of different food items. Prices were very reasonable. We ordered 5 dishes... yes, I know there was only the two of us LOL. Hey, they don't call me the to-go or take-out gal for nothing. Anyway, every single dish was so very delicious. Flavors were on point. I can taste the WOK cooking. Portions were big. I've been to two locations of Mama Lu's Dumpling before but this was my first time at this one. The seating is pretty clean and we were given jasmine tea right away upon sitting down. Yang Chow Fried Rice: The rice was so fluffy and we loved the Chinese sausage that was in it. It definitely helped balance out the other dishes that were more saucy. I was surprised by how generous they were with the shrimp. 10/10 recommend! Beef Pan Fried Noodles: These noodles were so delicious. It was the perfect combination of sauce, crispiness, along with the veggies and proteins. Sometimes I find that the noodles can become too soggy but I feel like this had just the right amount of sauce. Kung Pao Shrimp: The portion size was generous this was my least favorite because I felt like the sweetness was a bit too overpowering for my taste. I've been to Mama Lu's Monterey park location and always had a great experience there, so was happy they opened a location in Arcadia. We came on a Saturday for dinner and were lucky to be seated without a wait, even though the restaurant was packed. We ordered the Juicy Pork Dumplings (8), sautéed Sting Beans, and the Roasted Beef Noodle Soup to share between the 2 of us. The Juicy Pork Dumplings were so big and really juicy! My favorite dish of the entire meal. Definitely ask the waiter for shredded ginger because they didn't automatically bring it out for us. The string beans were flavorful, super crunchy, and the portion size was HUGE so we brought most of it home. The Beef Noodle Soup was delicious as well and the beef was super tender. I would order all 3 dishes again next time. Service was quick, although if you're expecting friendly service with a smile this isn't your place. We ordered the salt and pepper shrimp, which is very good, perfectly cooked but a bit salty for my taste, the salted fish and chicken fried rice, this one is really good, i love the garlic sauteed brocolli, so refreshing, the fried fish seaweed was ok, but very crunchy and appetizing, the chicken and sweet corn soup taste like my mom's sweet corn soup, im a little disappointed with the roast duck, the taste is there but the skin is not crucnchy but a little soggy and rubbery, the pork juicy dumpling in my opinion is better ng din tai fung's...Portions are very generous!! This is by far the worst tasting Mama Lu location I've been to. The crispy noodle gravy and the mushroom tofu gravy were both basically soup, no thickness at all and basically completely bland water. The pan-fried buns were also inedible because they were burnt. The only positives were a very nice waitress and zero wait time (probably because the place was empty). What a huge letdown. Went on a Friday afternoon with my BFF. Was able to sit rather quickly which was nice. We were also able to order pretty quickly. The menu is quite large so it's better if you have an idea of what you want. We ended up ordering way too much food not realizing that the portions were pretty hefty. My favorite was the fried sole filet. It is exactly what I'd been craving for a while. Would love to go back and try other items but I was pleased for the most part with everything we got. I loved this Arcadia location way better than the Rowland Heights one (tho both are pretty bomb). I was holding off on this particular location since it was still new, and I waited for all the premature reviews to set in and be out of the way so that I would have a proper experience rather than be subjected to their pre-ironed details. We parked at the back. Since the bank was closed already, any parking back there was avaliable, and there was plenty. The place is spacious. The previous place was called 'Monarch', and I honestly have no idea what kind of place it was. (I never tried it.) Upon seating, we got hot tea and a small plate of peanuts. The tea was oddly satisfying, and the peanuts were delicious. Prices are a bit higher than what I would prefer, but the service is good, the food is tasty, and the portions are at or above par. We got the shrimp dumplings, Xiao long bao, and the pork pan-fried noodles. Of the 3, the noodles were my favorite. It also helped that it was a big platter. We started with this amount for 2 people and would order more if need be. It turns out that it was just the right amount for us, and we took no leftovers home. Staff was on top of it all. This place is good for groups, small or big. While some might find this place unfavorable, I consider it a nice option in a rotation of many in the area. The food was amazingly with flavor from the port dumplings, shumai, sauteed green beans which I may were cooked to perfection it still had they crunch, Love it. This is currently my favorite Mama Lus location. They just opened recently replacing Monarch restaurant. What puts this location above the other ones for now is the Chinese bbq meat options. We tried the roast duck and roast pork. Both were really good. The pork was moist and cut thinner than some other Chinese bbq spots. The roast duck was as good as some nicer spots. Their other food options such as the steamed dumplings, honey garlic pork chops and fried noodles were as good if not better than their other locations. Another item that seems to set this location apart is their table chili sauce. It was fresh and very tasty. I saw some nasty reviews of this location and I don't understand them at all.
