A very nice spot for lunch. my friend and I met and sat outside under an umbrella. I really like the restaurants on Holly St. just a really nice vibe off the main boulevards. We both ordered lunch specials with iced green tea. I think it's from the powdered green tea as it's a bit opaque, nice flavor. I had the tempura and sashimi special for, my friend has salmon. Come hungry as the starters will fill you up! The specials come with salad and miso soup. The tempura was a meal in itself too! The sashimi was my "dessert", I ate it last because, you know, it's cold already! Very generous portions and I admit, I ate it ALL

Came for a birthday celebration and the place didn't disappoint. We order part of the happy hours items and entrees. We ordered the chirashi bowl, octopus salad, two hand rolls: spicy tuna and mix sashimi roll. We ordered two more rolls and that definitely hit the spot for two. Place was super clean and lit inside and we chose to sit inside since it was getting chillier outside. Overall the place is amazing and definitely will be back for more

New vibe and still great food! There's now a dj playing jazzy but funky dinner music. My favorite dish was the shitshito peppers roll. It's a main dish but be sure to either get it as an appetizer or include it in your dinner order. The sparking sake is also a must have.

What a cute restaurant! We walked in around 5:00pm on a Sunday and there were plenty of tables. The waitresses were so nice and helpful. We ordered an SCS roll, 911 roll, spicy tuna crunch roll, love at first bite, and crunch roll, tuna sushi, salmon sushi, albacore sushi, a black garlic tonkotsu ramen, gyozas, and a spicy tuna hand roll. There was a Sunday happy hour deal where some sushi were buy 1 get 1. Some hand rolls and special rolls were discounted. Every single dish was yummy! The ramen soup had so much flavor with the chewy noodles, the gyoza was crunchy on the outside and meaty on the inside, and all the fish from the rolls and sushi tasted fresh. They accept inkind app, which can discount your meal even more. Overall, for the price that we paid, food was delicious and well worth it. Definitely coming back to eat here again.

Found this place on the InKind app and this "Cute Devil" roll was probably one of the best sushi rolls I've ever had! All the staff was super friendly and very attentive. Me and wife also tried their black garlic ramen with pork belly and that was also really good. 10/10 highly recommend Mama M Sushi!

The moment you walk in, it's giving romantic dinner vibes with someone who actually listens. Each table has its own sleek little lamp, kinda like a modern-day candlelight situation that whispers, "Tell me your secrets." Your vinyl seats in the back need a little refresher but other than that, the dining area looks inviting. Let's talk food. Would I come back? Oh, absolutely YES, even if it means driving 1 hour and 45 minutes like I'm chasing down an ex I should've never let go. Hah! The sushi's fresh, the vibe's intimate, and the whole place feels like it knows how to treat you right. Dear Mama M's Management: IMPORTANT Please don't touch that Happy Hour menu. It's the kind of thoughtful, emotionally available gesture we wish more people made. It's priced like someone who understands that not all of us are dating hedge fund managers. This was a great experience. We were able to walk in on a Friday night and were seated right away. The service was great and the servers were so sweet. I got a sake and my husband got a Kirin light bottle. We shared a veggie tempura appetizer. Mostly carrot but one giant broccoli, onion and a couple of green beans. The dipping sauce was excellent. I got the gyudon with a poached egg. So good. Also came with broccoli and carrot so not so meat heavy. My husbands spicy tuna bowl came with salad, soup and edamame. Great deal. Will be back for the delicious food and service!

Due to a credit card benefit, I was able to try out Mama M sushi. There are street parking and a park age garage close by. Surprisingly, they have a happy hour menu for Sunday evening. We wanted 8 pieces of salmon sushi and thought we need to order 4 orders with 2 pieces each. But since it's BOGO free, we only needed 2 orders. The server was nice enough to cancel the extra one. We ordered a variety of rolls and they are delish. We ordered gyoza and edamame for appetizers and they were great. For dessert, we had mochi ice cream, one mango and one green tea. Since plenty of people were here for the happy hour, the servers were quite swamped, but understandable. We will come back for this amazing restaurant!

Dined at Mama M Sushi for the first time and would come back again. I enjoyed the nigiri we ordered and also the crispy rice. I wasn't amazed by the roll we ordered, but it wasn't bad either. I will say it's just because I'm super picky when it comes to sushi! We ordered a couple pieces of Toro, and for the roll we had the Albacore Fever. The Toro was the perfect cut and I liked the fresh wasabi that was put on top. The Albacore Fever roll wasn't anything special to my husband and I, but I did enjoy the sauce it was paired with and that it was wrapped in soy paper. We wanted to order this trio of different Tuna nigiri cuts, but they were out. I asked the waitress for a recommendation and she recommended the Black Snapper - it was sooo good! It had a little sear on it which my husband and I both enjoyed. My only complaint was it was pretty warm inside of the restaurant which makes me kind of weary since they're serving raw fish. The restaurant is small as well so I would recommend coming early or making reservations! The staff were very attentive and kind as well. Will come back again to try other things they have to offer!

Mama M Sushi is such a great little hidden gem in Pasadena. The space itself is pretty small and cozy, but the service is fast and efficient. I definitely recommend making a reservation, but even if you walk in, the line moves fairly quickly since the kitchen is constantly sending food out to tables. We came here for DineLA, and I'm so glad we did--everything was incredibly tasty. The A5 Wagyu Nigiri was hands down my favorite: rich, buttery, and full of flavor. It honestly just needed a tiny touch of salt to be absolutely perfect. The sushi overall was super fresh, flavorful, and clearly high quality--you can really taste how good the fish is. I also loved the vibe of the place. They had a DJ spinning some really good jams, which added to the whole experience and made the ambience feel fun, lively, and welcoming without being overwhelming. Definitely worth checking out, and I'll for sure be back again.

Overall, it was a good experience. We ate some tempura shrimp, the sushi lunch special, and my parents had one baby back rib tonkatsu ramen and a sushi lunch. It's a cute, well-lit, and quick place. Overall, the service was great and prompt, attending to all our needs.

I had high hopes for Mamma M Sushi. It had decent ratings and was just around the corner from a meeting so it was the perfect place to grab a quick lunch. We were greeted warmly and shown to a table. The ambiance is nice and the menu is loaded with impressive pictures of their food. We went with two of the lunch specials. Our meal started with a delicious bowl of miso soup. Next uo for me was tempura. It was nicely cooked with a crispy exterior. My only complaint is that the container of dipping sauce was about 1-1/2" across so it was difficult to dip any of the tempura pieces in it. I also had to request a second dipping sauce as there was not enough in the little cup. Our main courses arrived quickly. I was impressed with the plating but not as impressed with the fish. The slices were so thick and many of them were chewy, not the tender, soft, melt in your mouth sashimi I've received elsewhere. I had to leave some partially chewed pieces on my plate. But other than that, we enjoyed our meal and the service was very good. Before we left, I needed to go to the restroom. And that is where things went downhill. I could not believe how disgusting and filthy the bathroom was. The light switch was covered in nasty fingerprints and stains, the top of the urinal had not been cleaned nor had the mirror which had visible stains and splatter marks on it. It made me sick to my stomach and I will not be returning due to the pack of cleanliness in the restrooms. That was a complete turnoff and unacceptable.

Mama M Sushi has been around for a while, even before the pandemic, and I've always wanted to try it. I finally got the chance recently since they accept inKind app payments. I ordered the $35 tempura and sashimi lunch, while my friend went with the $34 chirashi bowl. I have to say, the tempura wasn't freshly fried--it was clear from the breading that it was store-bought and frozen. The taste was decent, but for a $35 meal, I expected better. On the other hand, the sashimi was delicious and came in a generous portion. That said, I thought my friend's chirashi bowl was the better choice. Overall, I'm still giving them 4 stars because it's a small, family-run spot with attentive and friendly service. Just skip the tempura.

Located in old town Pasadena. Solid place for all-around Japanese food. If you want combo plates, a variety of rolls, and some fresh fish then this is a great option. The service here was attentive, fast, and friendly. The rolls and entrees were generous in portion size. The sashimi was fresh and delicious too. We were satisfied with everything we ordered. I visited on Sunday evening by during their happy hour and thoroughly enjoyed the sushi and rolls, including the yellowtail nigiri and especially the 119 roll. The ambience was chill and dark with a sense of home given the small area. The dishes I wouldn't recommend were the tonkotsu ramen and tempura. The tempura batter was a bit raw while the ramen was overly sweet without umami and soggy noodles. All in all, I'd recommend only the sushi here. read more

Cozy restaurant located in downtown Pasadena, was able to find street parking at cross from the restaurant. I liked the burgundy patio umbrella outside for dining. As I arrived many small empty tables were left not cleared for new customers. Maybe short staff. Waited little over 15 minutes for them to clear the tables. Service was okay little slow. Ordered sushi and miso soup first along with spicy hamachi hand rolls and unagi, avocado cut rolls and baked salmon collard. For me the miso was lukewarm warm and sushi was cut slightly on thin side. Octopus ( tako ) was bit chewy. Hand roll tasted delicious with large chunks of fresh sushi and cucumber but the nori was not crispy. Salmon collard was delicious, baked perfectly but took a while longer than expected, which was understandable. Overall my experience was average. read more

Honestly, this was such a letdown. The service was sloppy. I had to walk up to the server just to add something, and even then she messed up my order. I pointed at the regular salmon collar (2 pieces) but she put in a lunch special without asking. What came out was sashimi I didn't want and just one salmon collar with burnt rice. When I asked for the proper order, she came back later saying it was sold out. The fish itself didn't feel fresh at all. The tuna and salmon looked dull, tasted fishy, and honestly weren't even supermarket quality. For the price, it's hard to believe all the glowing reviews online. Definitely not somewhere I'd go back to. read more

Came here for lunch and outdoor dining with our dog! We got a sample during the Yelp year end event and had been meaning to visit for the full menu. We were hungry and definitely ordered way too much. I got the salmon collar with sashimi lunch special. We shared the appetizer of agedashi tofu and Tuna on Earth which is spicy tuna on top of tempura eggplant. Hubby was hungry and ordered the baby back ribs ramen and the Chicago Roll which is shrimp tempura with albacore. We finished most of everything minus the ramen which we took home. Have to admit the salmon collar was a bit dried and the tuna sashimi that came with it was just okay. Service was attentive and it's a cute neighborhood sushi restaurant in old pas. read more

The fish is super fresh. The seasonings are understated (not in a bad way at all). The presentation was lovely. We had veggie tempura, albacore special roll, and a bento box. It's also expensive, especially for a place with a very sad true crime murder mystery on t.v. Maybe the t.v. part was accidental, but I would pay more not to have t.v., especially if it's sad or sports... this was both. I didn't say anything to the servers, so I'm not rounding down a star, but I wouldn't bring friends here either. We will probably be back sometime, because the fish was good quality and it's close to home. Parking was easy on a Wednesday night. We'll also try ordering different things, because we liked but didn't love our choices today. Overall, it's solid. read more

My coworker and I wanted sushi for lunch and stopped by last week. It's a hidden spot on Holly. We were going to sit inside but it smelled very fishy so we asked to sit outside. The prices are overrated for what it actually is. We got a spicy edamame, love at first bite roll and playboy roll. The playboy roll was delicious. It had lemon on top. The love at first bite roll was really good too but it wasn't enough protein. It seemed like it was filled with mostly rice and barely any tuna. Good place but overpriced. read more

We stopped by for lunch on a Monday, and the place was pretty quiet, with just one other patron. The server was friendly, attentive, and welcoming. As for the food, it was neither outstanding nor terrible--it just didn't feel like a sushi chef had prepared it. Mama M Sushi is a quiet and cute little sushi restaurant with an expansive menu and sweet staff! When we got to the restaurant, we were met with smiling faces and were quick to be seated. The menu is quite large and offers something for everyone; There is also a lunch menu offered. We got the two Omakase Lunch for about $26 each and it was well worth it. Came in for lunch with the family (6 ppl) on MLK day. We were quickly seated. The interior is small but they have a decent patio area. Everything we ordered was delicious. The "spicy" edamame was so addicting. It was more of a garlic flavor than actual spicy-ness, but regardless I couldn't stop eating it! The fish was so fresh in all of our entrees. Overall, this restaurant was only ok. I ordered the omakase A, which was reasonably priced for $35. The salad dressing was delicious, and the salad tasted very fresh. The miso soup was also solid while the edamame was good but lacked salt. The fish quality was pretty average so nothing to write home about. I'm not sure I would come here again given the price. Fast, thoughtful service and super fresh, melt in your mouth fish. We came for dinner and it was still happy hour so we ordered at least one of practically everything on the menu. Everything from wine to beer to starters to hand rolls to sushi is $6.99. We especially loved the yellow tail, the cucumber salad, and the hand rolls. Even though it was happy hour, we still ended up spending a good amount, but we ate well and the service was excellent. read more

What the hole in the wall?! I would have never found this place if I didn't drive down Holly Street. I usually just eat at place on Colorado Blvd in Old Town Pasadena but I completely forgot there's more if you just walk up north a little more. The food here is great! I came here on a little date night and ordered a couple sushi and drinks. You can really taste in difference in quality. I had a great time here and more to come. Came in here for dinner the other day. Food was great! I love the small family style eatery vibe with a touch of class! The utensils were quality! not the cheap chop sticks given at other places. started off with the BBQ Short Ribs and spicy edamame flavors were great for both. Ribs were a little chewy but sweet and I love that. For rolls we got 2 specialty rolls, both were great visually and taste. Service was fine it wasn't too busy, staff was all attentive and the sushi chefs were all very welcoming. Would definitely come back again. read more

They have a decent lunch menu that you can order on the weekends too, but we decided to go with the Chirashi. In total it was 8 slices of fish, shrimp, 2 eggs and seaweed salad plus miso soup and salad. Overall although it was fresh, just a bit thicker would've been better as the fish was on the thin side. Parking: closest parking is the Marriott park and walk structure around the block. $1 for first 2 hours. No validation req. read more

My family and I come here nearly every Friday and we've done so for years now. I always enjoy visiting here and the service is fantastic. I often get the salmon donburi bowl and my sister gets the chicken teriyaki bento box. The vibes here are immaculate and they sometimes have live music on the patio outdoors which is lovely. read more

Parking: nearby parking structures with a fee of course and street parking is also available. Service: Fast and attentive servers who do not rush you to order. First time here and their menu is longer than other places so it took me a little longer to decide what to eat. Ambiance: is a smaller restaurant but offers outdoor and indoor seating! It has a relaxed and laid back ambiance, perfect for unwinding and enjoying a casual meal. Food: Black Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen with Chashu & Flavored Egg: 7/10. Ask for chili on the side to add some spice. Chashu was a bit dry but everything else had good flavor! I recommend getting the Gyu (Beef) Black Garlic Shoyu Ramen for the beef! Rainbow Roll: 9/10. You can never go wrong with a rainbow roll in my opinion. read more

Wow this place offered very fresh sushi for a pretty decent price. I hate to give this little shop an average review, but it was pretty underwhelming for me. I got two rolls to-go: the dragon and the firecracker. I don't usually order eel intentionally but I wanted to try it on the afternoon I visited. I felt one roll wouldn't be enough so I browsed their menu for a second and only found that their firecracker roll looked appetizing. Neither roll was spectacular, but I don't know if I would have enjoyed the dragon roll if I ordered from somewhere else. I didn't really have much interaction with the employees so I can't comment on service, but the place looked pretty clean and well-maintained. I feel like Mama M is totally underrated. I'm always looking for a good sushi spot, I tend to order just nigiri and sashimi, but sometimes I want rolls. I want a mix of a bunch of ingredients rolled up and eaten in 1 bite. Sometimes it's hard to find a good spot for rolls that aren't basic. Mama M has it down. They have some really tasty rolls that are different than what other spots have and it's totally fresh and always served beautifully. I sometimes have my ups and downs with my orders ( wrong item or DoorDash issues) but overall it's really good and I'd order again & again. Really enjoyed this place. When I looked at the menu I was a little iffy about the high prices, but was pleasantly surprised at their generous portions. I enjoyed my omakase sushi B, it comes with salad, miso soup and edamame. Their shishito peppers were so good as was the Playboy roll. The servers checked on us often and refilled our waters without being asked. We came in at 5 on a Friday evening, but it soon got busy so reservations are recommended as the restaurant is rather small. read more

Had a date with my boyfriend and randomly chose this spot for lunch. It was not busy nor noisy so that's always a plus! Service was excellent, the two waitresses that assisted us were attentive but also gave us our space. It was awhile ago but I'll try to attach a video...we had gotten one roll and a few sushi options. The fish was fresh but the black snapper was the best! Little hidden place in Pasadena, had a light dinner with friends, service is good, food is good. The special Fuji Mountain Chirashi caught my eye, and I was really excited to see the mountain. Although it came out as a tiny hill... I wish it has more fish variety other than tuna, salmon, tamago, imitation crabmeat and some yellowtail. Basically, it is a chopped sushi regular platter with a fancy name. The other two rolls that friends ordered are similar to other restaurants, eel on top with sweet eel/ teriyaki sauce. Absolutely delicious, underrated, awesome sushi spot in old town. They have an abundance of different types of fun flavorful rolls that are not overly sweet or over sauced. Service was excellent. We came at noon and asked for a table for 8 people and luckily were seated right away. I was worried it would be a crowded lunch spot but I think we came right at opening so it was perfect. There are so many unique options and rolls and each roll comes with a generous amount. A couple people at our table also had their signature baby back ribs ramen. It was half of what normally comes in the box but the potatoes were stacked high and of course extremely oily. I was like ok let's just eat this because I don't have more time to find another place to get food plus I've already splurged. The chicken was undercooked and rubbery and came with no chicken breast like it normally does just some boney legs. Since I was so hungry and paid the extra money for "light" chicken I still ate it. I'm sick now, the night of May 8th I'm still on the toilet. Save your money and go to Zankou if you want good rotisserie chicken they've been doing it right in LA since the 80s. Or Costco; 5$ chicken unless you want a $32 dollar chicken here to make you and your family sick and poor.

Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely return to this Urban Plates location.

Her wine recommendations were spot on and paired perfectly with the food. You can tell she genuinely enjoys what she does and wants guests to have a great experience. I didn't even think to take pictures because I was too busy enjoying the meal, which probably says a lot! Between the food, the wine, and Julianna's wonderful service, it ended up being one of my favorite dining experiences in Pasadena. Can't wait to come back.

For reference, I love Midori Matcha's hojicha soft serve and see that as my gold standard. The toppings were delicious though! Both mochis were delightfully soft and chewy. Staff was very friendly. It is a new space, so it is clean and modern inside. It is not a large space though, so you might have a hard time finding seating if it's busy. You order at the counter or tablet then find your own seats. I recommend coming during non peak hours if you want to dine in without the chaos of finding a seat.

Lean in to what their specials are. Both dishes were amazing. The Panda Inn Special featured large plump bites of lobster, chicken, and shrimp, with a medley of vegetables and smaller pieces of pork. The Panda Beef was shockingly amazing with crisp and flavorful slices of beef. We finished up dinner with Chocolate Lava Cake and the Warm Rice Pudding, the latter of which is also made in house. Both were a very great end to the dinner. Not the best choice of names for a restaurant, but I decided to try this place out tonight. Aside from it being 85 degrees, and getting slow service from the waitress considering there was one other table, the food was good, but not great. There is an abundance of different menu items to slow your decision making process that is for sure. Nothing that we ordered was undesirable, yet nothing was so good that it was scarfed up right away. This is definitely a more americanized version of sushi, but sometimes that is what you are looking for. I wish the prices were slightly lower and I would plan on coming back but now I guess its just a consideration if I happen to be in that part of town. read more

I should have paid more attention to the name BAD before I drove all the way there. The place it's REALLY BAD, bad service, bad prices, bad location, no parking only if you are lucky you can find one street meter space, small place and all the tables are so close that you cannot have a private conversation, THEY CHARGE FOR GINGER this is super bad and also super cheap. I am allergic to shrimp and crab and they did not want to make any substitutions due to my allergy. I will rather drive a little more to go to Little Tokyo where I can get the real sushi and not attitude. read more

I got the SCS roll per the server's recommendation, and I really enjoyed it! Portion size was large compared to other sushi restaurants I've been to. Came here a week ago with my friends to try out this place in old Pasadena. It wasn't crowded but the food quality is great. Some of their rolls taste much better than other Sushi places in the area. Prices are a little bit expensive but you pay for quality of good food. Will come back to try other items on their menu again. read more

If you are going to have an acronym like BAD your sushi better be far from BAD or BAD meaning good and this place was just BAD meaning BAD!!
