I went here to surprise my mom by taking home Filipino food for her. It was a great success!!! I am so glad that everybody was WEARING THEIR MASKS and observing social distancing. Mang Jun and Ate Annabelle are so welcoming, respectful and explained to me what some of the food were. Kudos to them, Mama Rosa is very lucky to have workers as energetic and as patient like them. My favorite was their Chicharon Bulaklak, it was very crispy (it takes 15mins to cook so I called ahead, it was WORTH THE WAIT!). Was craving Filipino food and ended up here. It's a small restaurant with a few tables to sit that's also a Filipino grocery store as well. I had the sisig and egg with garlic rice while my husband got tinola and pork belly with garlic rice. The portion was huge and both meals were flavorful and delicious. The kuyas behind the counters serving were very nice and even suggested for me to have tinola sauce for my meal. Both meals were affordable resulting to $20 dollars or so. I think Mama Rosa Grill hits it home with the Filipino food. I was a bit worried about moving to Baltimore and not having some homecooked Filipino food but I really lucked out. I've tried their made to order stuff (sisig) and I've tried their buffet. The sisig was a big too cartilage-y for me but the garlic rice and the chicken BBQ were great. The buffet had a variety of stuff including bistek and sinigang, which satiated my need for those two dishes. They also have a lil grocery store in the back! I love that there's a small Filipino cafe a couple minutes from my apartment. As all other Filipino cafes, they also have a small "mart" in this location with a lot of snacks, baked goods, and Filipino condiments. They used to have a small buffet here during the weekends, but due to COVID-19, this is not a part of their service anymore. My roommate and I ordered the Mixsilog #1, and we have ordered the mixsilog #4 in the past. If I had to choose which I preferred, I'd go with #4 because of the lechon kawali and sisig. For Mixsilog #1 it comes with tapa (garlic and soy sauce marinade), longanisa (sausage) and tocino (cured pork). All Mixsilog orders come with a choice of white or garlic fried rice (choose garlic ofc), tomato's, eggs (I prefer sunny side), salted duck egg, and their version of a patis mixture. All the flavors were there for all the 3 meats, but I wish they cut the tapa with a thin slice rather than a thicker slice. I would also make this a tad cheaper in pricing. Since they split the rice/eggs into 4, I'm assuming this was to feed 4 people, I think this would more likely feed 3, but I guess it really depends on how much each person eats. As for other dishes, they have a pre-set cooked menu, so you can just pick and choose and don't have to wait. A combo (rice and 2 dishes) I believe was $8.99 or 9.99, which is a relatively good price compared to other Filipino marts I've been to. read more

I went to this restaurant because I was hungry and that day I recently became a United States Citizen. I'm Filipino and this restaurant was home to me. The food is AMAZING. The chicharon bulaklak hit the spot. It's been a long time since I went back to the Philippines so when I saw that in their menu, I freaked. It was worth the 15 minute wait. They're lechon manok was AMAZEBALLS. The green spicy sauce that came with it is amazing. The lechon kawali was a heart stopper and their homemade vinegar paired really well. We were recently in Halethorpe and decided to stop here because we'd been to the Mama Rosa Grill in Middle River and enjoyed the food at that location. We had several issues here. First, perhaps due to COVID, the only menu available is an electronic signboard on the wall. Unfortunately, it has no menu descriptions and the food offerings keep flipping to a new page so you don't have time to absorb what's written there. I decided that I didn't feel like experimenting so I tried to order the grilled chicken. I was informed that they were out of chicken. At 6pm. On a Friday night. Really? OK, so I ordered minced pork instead. The young man who took my order told me there were two minced pork dishes. Both had minced pork and rice, one had fried eggs on top. I said I'd prefer the version without eggs. Then my daughter ordered a combo plate. Apparently, the menu flipped by too fast for her to note the price, and without a description, she didn't know exactly what she was ordering. Our food took an extremely long time to come out of the kitchen. When it did, my daughter's order arrived in a giant box. It would have been nice if the order-taker had noted that we were only two women and had asked us how many people we were ordering for -- because the combo plate was enough for 4-5 people. My daughter had no clue that she was ordering a meal intended for multiple people. She had just liked the idea of ordering a dish that had three different kinds of meat along with the usual rice. My "without egg" minced pork showed up with two fried eggs on top. My daughter's food was pretty good, although she's gonna be eating leftovers all week. Mine was tasty, but I kept pulling pieces of gristle out and there was too much jalapeno in the dish for my liking. They have very good Filipino food. Most of the employees are friendly and they try to get to know their customers well - this is why they have a lot of frequent customers or regulars. They have buffets every weekends I believe (I guess you have to call to confirm and to find out what exact foods they have at that time). They have a small grocery at the back of the restaurant. It has a few snacks, cleaning, and cooking ingredients, etc. You can also buy some baked goods which are being delivered regularly. Also some frozen food such as ice cream, tocino, siomai, etc. The actual store itself is usually not busy. The location, however, is very busy. They don't have enough parking spaces. Also, there is a particular employee who expects and rubs in the faces of the customers that they have to give tips even if they did not eat/dine in; even if they just bought groceries and such. One time, my husband asked for extra soup and this employee does not want to give my husband extra soup because according to this employee they will have other plenty customers who will need the soup later. We don't see any customers tho. Before that incident, however, we constantly give them tips. We still go back there because of the food, and (most) of the friendly employees but we don't give tips anymore because we don't dine in anyway. I think the employees in their other store, Middle River, are much friendlier and more hard-working. read more

I really really liked this place. But there are some improvements to be made, hence the four stars. We had the buffet which was a robust variety of staple Filipino food. I had the lechon kawali and fried chicken skin, basically you can't go wrong here. So good! Don't forget the brown sauce with it! The palabok was tasty and the spaghetti tasted like home. I also had the shrimp and beans in coconut sauce which I could probably eat all day everyday, it was yummy. The shrimp in it was overcooked but that's hard to fix in a buffet type restaurant. The buffet desserts were also very tasty. My main issue was on the pork bbq, it was tough and lacking in flavor. I expected more. This is a staple dish in the Philippines, I wanted it to stand out, but it didn't. And I'm not sure where the supply for the danggit comes from but that is the saltiest thing I've ever tasted. I understand its supposed to be, and I've had danggit many other times. But that's almost inedible. Lastly, to bring it back to the great dishes, we ended with taho and the halo-halo. The taho was overall good though the bubbles were overcooked. The halo halo was top notch. Really really enjoyed eating here. Will be back for more! read more
