We always get takeout from Mama Rosa on account of it being our closest Filipino takeout place. We always get their barbecue and their lumpiang shanghai. If you like fish, get the double daing na bangus and grilled pampano. If you like eggplants, get the tortang talong with its shrimp paste sauce. When we went there yesterday, we had a big order as well as some grocery items and I forgot my sago't gulaman drink. Ms. Lanie chased me down the parking lot to hand me my drink. I'm giving it 5 stars because we've been going to this place since it opened. Great-tasting Filipino food with quick and efficient service. But recently, there's this new young employee who has not been paying good attention to what he is doing. Me and family were there on 8/1/2022; he barely remembered my order even though I've said it repeatedly, because his attention was on another customer. We also noticed he did not change his gloves while he put food in the container, went to the cash register, served food on the table, and back to behind the counter to get customers' orders. I see his co-workers getting frustrated with him because I've seen them shake their heads, rolls their eyes, or volunteer to take over what he was doing. He said he's been there for about 3 months. I don't know how long it will take for him to learn the proper customer service and food handling protocol. read more

Very rude staff at this location! I was ordering cornsilog and when I did not understand what the staff was saying because we were wearing masks and it being loud from the ventilation; one male staff member then proceeded to scream at me rudely. Pinoy ako pero walang smile nayong staff mo. Hindi na sarap yung pagkain mo anyways. Better sa James fiesta grill, where they welcome fellow Pinoy with a smile and conversation. Rude naman! Turns out that Mama Rosa Grill caters! I spoke with the owner and he was very communicative regarding details, we went over the options and agreed to a menu for about 80 people. They were also accommodative given that we were an hour away. Two people came in and set up everything on three long tables (they didn't supply the tables, the venue had them). We ordered pancit and three meat dishes, and they were all very good along with the rice. I personally missed having pork adobo, and that was awesome. There were two types of desserts, and the biko was another one that I hadn't had in a while. I would've also liked flan but it wouldn't make the trip well, so we went with another one that was a green gelatin with a texture that some folks were not used to. But all told, excellent reviews by everyone in attendance and no doubt something I would absolutely recommend if you want to host an outing with Filipino food. Came here on a Sunday afternoon to try the buffet. The dining area is like a small cafeteria style, with little room to maneuver around the restaurant. It was really cramped but I didn't mind until I tried the food. I can't really recommend the buffet as the food wasn't very warm or flavorful. The store doubles as a convenience store which is cool, but I think they should focus more on the food in the future. Mama Rosa's might be the best Filipino food spot in town! I went there on a Sunday morning and they had a whole lunch buffet bar! They had a good variety of savory and sweet dishes to try from. One of my favorite Filipino dishes is the Kare-kare and theirs does not disappoint. Be sure to get the lumpia and pancit too of course. They also have fresh, hot crispy pata behind the counter that buffet guests can ask for and a staff member will chop up in front of you. Before I left I got a Halo-Halo and I felt like a little kid again mixing it all up. They have lots of little snacks and reminders from home like dried mangos and polvoron. This is a small grocery/eatery which is typical of a lot of Filipino places. I tried the meat skewers which were marinated really well and cooked perfectly. Of course I had it with the garlic fried rice and they give you 2 huge scoops and a good amount of skewers - 4, I think. They don't skimp. They also gave a little bowl of sinigang. I'm not sure if that's normal but it was a kewl tasting of it. I also tried a boba tea that was green, coconut flavor. It had a really delicious, unique flavor. I probably should have tried the halo halo because I heard it was really good. Next time, Mama Rosa's. There will definitely be a next time. read more

I've had Filipino food before at a festival in Timonium a couple years ago. I had their Adobo, Chicharron and Halo Halo. They were all pretty damn good. I also went to California and saw a bunch of Jollibee's there but never went to one because, well, they didn't look that good. Fast food Filipino joint?? Recently I've been going everywhere and trying out new places, some were fantastic, others were alright. This place was about 15 minutes away from my work so I decided to leave earlier so I could try this place out. When you walk in the place, you need to actually try and open the door because it's tough. You might think it's closed because that's how tough it is to open the door! Just kidding, but you gotta pull it harder than usual to open it. Upon entering this place, you could smell the subtle aroma of flavors permeating in the room. First time here, I asked the young fella what I should have then immediately saw the HUGE chunks of Chicharron so I wanted that! A lot of it! And another Pinoy dish. I had 2 scoops of rice with Adobo chicken, some yellow Curry with green beans and sweet potato and this soup with what looks like Bok Choy. I also got 1 pound of the Chicharron with this mud colored sauce. (No disrespect intended). I sat down with this tray of food and I finished it all in 20 minutes. This amount of food usually takes me 10 minutes or less but the food here was so delicious that I had to take it easy and enjoy the flavors this place had to offer. Garlic rice was fluffy and sometimes had hints of garlic in it. (Obviously!). But not too much where you'd smell like garlic! The Adobo Chicken was delicious and a tad bit salty, however, with the rice it was a fantastic combination. Then the yellow Curry was rich in flavor and somewhat balanced out the meal with some veggies. Then that soup with Bok Choy was savory and it's a really good chaser. I've had Chicharron at numerous places but this place has the best Chicharron I've ever had. I'm not a big fan of Pure Crunchiness like how the Mexican/Tex Mex places would have it. But this place had the Chicharron perfectly done. Not too crunchy on the outside and fat and juicy on the inside! Then with that sauce? MY GOSH! That sauce went PERFECT with the Chicharron. Sweet, salty and savory with all the right combinations in one plate. This place is amazing. And they have a lunch buffet on Sundays, 11am-2pm! read more

Whether you are Filipino or not, you should really try this place. Everything is delicious. Trust me I know because my uncle ordered everything! Even at 9:30AM they will serve you lunch items. I had the Tocilog, which you know is slang for Tocino and Itlog (cured pork and eggs) over garlic rice. My aunt got Tapsilog, or tapa and itlog (beef strips and eggs). They give you plenty to eat for a cheap price. My uncle got lunch items. The dinuguan, or "chocolate pork" (LOL) and it's got a bit of a kick. Lechon kawali was just the right kind of crispy and so was the chicharron bulaklak. Most places cook this very greasy, these were not. We also got Pancit canton, made to order with fresh veggies and tofu! My uncle's eyes were bigger than his stomach, so we ended up taking a lot of leftovers home. I could live here. I wish they had a place closer to my house... In south jersey! Thanks for the great service. I hope to be back soon during my next visit. You have been saved as a favorite in my GPS. I am so happy I found the raving reviews for this place that pushed me to try it! I've driven by it so many times without thinking twice, but guys. TRY. IT. You can get a whole rotisserie chicken that tastes like heaven for a pretty good price. I like the light orange creamy sauce it comes with. I have no clue what this is, but it's good! I also always get the BBQ sticks. I can't remember if I get chicken or pork but I always suggest getting their combo instead of paying for each stick, it's cheaper and worth the money. The mean it tender and the perfect amount of sweet and savory. It tastes marinated because the flavor is throughout the meat. It comes with a thinner orange sauce - looks like duck sauce but with stuff in it? I am a big ol' pansy when it comes to spice so I might be more sensitive than others... but if I just dab my finger in the sauce to taste it, my entire mouth starts burning! This is another sauce j don't know the name for. That's the only reason I'm knocking this down to four stars. When getting noodles, you need to get the mix of both noodles. Like Hannah Montana says - it's the best of both worlds. The have a whole store inside with pre-packaged food items and food that looks freshly made in store. There is also an outdoor seating area. Went to Mama Rosa's with my family this week. We are Filipino so we're pretty picky with our Filipino food. Overall, was pretty good, but I think the James' Fiesta Grill has better flavored food. We ordered: Pancit - very good large portion, our favorite dish Lechon Paksiw - good but a bit greasy and fatty Chicken adobo - good flavor but way too many bones Grilled mackerel - pretty standard Gulaman - super sugary Lumpia - 12 pieces but very tiny Service: Great! Super friendly. Note: This place serves their food buffet style from hearing pans, so your food will not be very hot (I like my food super hot and made to order). The pancit and lumpia were made to order. Value: Approx $40 for 4 people to eat. Verdict: Good, will go back if I'm in the neighborhood, but otherwise I will go to James' Fiesta Grill. read more

I drove an amazing hour to try this place!!! I guess you can say that I was quite determined to eat Filipino food, and that is one type of food that DC definitely lacks. I had the pancit, kaldereta, and some dish with green leaves cooked in coconut milk. Everything tasted as they should. There were no surprises. Well, I didn't expect the little fish in the green leaves dish, but that's ok. I wasn't a fan of the fish so I just picked them out. The food didn't seem overly oily or anything. I've had some kaldereta where you can see the oil floating on the surface. So I was a fan of this kaldereta. I was a bit confused when I tried to order because I didn't see names on the dishes. When I paid, I realized that there was a piece of paper displayed that listed the prepared food of the day. I wish I saw that earlier or else I wouldn't have asked the worker what each dish was! LOL Anyway, the place looked clean and the place has its own parking lot. Its a bit of a hike but I'd go back if I had to do something else in Baltimore. I definitely wouldn't drive the hour only for the food though. read more

Nice restaurant! It's a restaurant/market. Clean and nicely decorated. The buffet was a great way to sample the various foods to determine a favorite. My sons got to try diniguan for the first time (because I personally do not like it nor will I cook it for them to try.) Was a little surprised when I told the cashier it was my first time there and she said to me (as if warning me) "It's Filipino food..." I laughed and said "I know" (I drove 30 min plus paid tolls just to get here!) and then she asked me, "Have you ever tried Filipino food before?" Again, I laughed, "Of course, my mom is Filipino!" First, I always find it funny when things like Chicken Parmesan sandwiches are on a menu at an Asian restaurant. That aside, I was a little apprehensive about coming here. I had a less than stellar experience with Filipino food during a trip to the Phillipines a few years back. Think pig brains and fish heads-just not my cup of tea.
