Unless you're open to experience Mexican food with a twist, this restaurant is for you. Like they say, Mama Tigre serves Mexican food remixed. Indeed, a remix of flavors is what we experienced with their food. We bumped into this restaurant by accident so we were not aware on what the remix was all about but found out as soon as we took the first bite lol. Some of us were surprised, some of us were confused, some of us were pleased with what we had ordered. We got the guacamole starter with endless chips, so good! Someone ordered the chicken burrito that had Indian spice flavors, which we all agreed was somewhat overwhelming in curry flavor. We order a combination of fajitas, which was Actually delicious. Someone ordered the taquitos plate, which they say it was delicious as well. And we also ordered the chille rétenos, which was nothing close to what the Mexican Chiles rellenos taste like, but again, we get it, we now know the food is Mexican remixed with Indian flavors. We are foodies, so we are always looking for something different, and we did find it in this restaurant! We Recommend for first-time customers to carefully read the description of each dish, pay attention to the ingredients, so that you can better decide what you're going to order. We were not really paying attention on that and we learned our lesson lol. By the way, the food plating was gorgeous! Overall the experience on the service and customer service was amazing. Our server was excellent, she was attentive and awesome. We also saw a great bar area, which looks amazing for when you want just drinks. The decor and ambience is top notch. Wow.. This restaurant looks very nice, having been remodeled from Bob Evans. I arrived Friday 10/16 in the eve (6'ish) with my party of 2. The place was slammin busy.... a good sign. We were 4th on the seating list. The manager and staff stated they were a bit overwhelmed. That is an understatement. They were horribly deep in the weeds. They were laid out for social distancing at the tables, kudos! They were also horribly mis-managed under the circumstances. The projected 15 minute wait was at 25, and still nothing. No table and no communication, even with inquiries. Instead a group of awaiting patrons were gathered at the entrance, inside and out, with no social distancing. Outside tables (chilly) were offered. But amazingly, there were 2 4-top tables and one booth in the primary room that sat empty for 20+ minutes. Inquiries came with the response that they are open for seating, but only the manager could assign the tables. They then decided to seat our party in the secondary dinning area, far away from any other occupied tables and next to the kitchen entrance. We decided to not continue our dinning option there. I asked to speak with the manager. While she had 2 hosts at the entrance to take names of pending customers for the wait list, she chose to ignore/avoid me for approx 8-10 more minutes while she handled the hosting duties, while the two hosts stood hand in pockets. When she decided to finally speak with me I inquired why we were exiled to the chosen isolated table, with 4 available tables on the primary floor? No answer. I asked how it is that 4 available tables for seating sat empty for 20 minutes with so many waiting. She explained the wait staff had 8 tables each and they didn't want to have a slow service experience. I explained that seemed to be a horrible choice as people were waiting anyway, with open tables. People were commenting about open tables not being seated with waiting patrons. I also commented on the lack of social distancing at the door area, inside and out. I also asked about why they weren't being honest and communicating with waiting patrons. I asked, with several persons that seemed available for service assistance, why they chose not to adjust others to serving. I asked why they didn't seat the open tables now and share the situation, honestly, about them being understaffed because they didn't expect the volume and share that the service times would be slower than normal as a result. I got no logical, rational or reasonable response to my inquiries. The food must be good or great, but Mama Tigre needs some significant customer service improvements, including competency, integrity and honesty (being up front and candid). It was a shame as it smelled great. Instead, we visited La Tolteca in Fairfax Station, where they definitely value, appreciate, and care about great customer service. Big thumbs down for Mama Tigre tonight. Very poor service and accountability! Recommendation - pass on Mama Tigre, unless light volume, at least until things settle down and they get a handle of the business. Hit Mex elsewhere (La Tolteca or Los Toltecos, same family)... for now! read more

The best part of the meal was the salsa and chips. Service was collectively a joke. Our food took a while and the server who gave us our plates did not know which direction a plate should face, and when asked if she could take away our empty plates - walked away. We asked her again and she stood there waiting for us to give her our plates. Waiter disappeared. And no, it was not during busy hours. Oakton has had a need for this kind of high-end Mexican for some time. I had my first business lunch here yesterday and this is a rock solid five stars. The decor is high-end; the service is high-end, the food is high-end; and the pricing is for me on the low side given the huge value these folk deliver. Next to Oakton Post Office, I notice that they are also brilliant on carry out -- a separate side door on the post office side with LOTS of parking makes it easy to grab and go. These people are doing everything RIGHT. Highly recommended, this is now my go to spot in Oakton - Vienna - Tysons. read more

It was my first visit and upon arrival we were greeted and seated in proficient manner. We ordered Tito's and club but I was disappointed by selected if glasses by chef. Well they should not be a cantina type glasses for high end liquor. Food arrived and I enjoyed my taco with carnitas and hot sauce. They were made the way I would at home. I absolutely want to give this restaurant a 5 star review. I have eaten here countless times since they opened, and quadruple that at their previous restaurant, Tequila Grande. I LOVE their food and their menu and their wait staff. Their margaritas are incredible. However, the last time (and probably will truly and sadly be the last time I will go there) my 2 friends and I were treated absolutely criminally. The wait list was 45 minutes deep, we were happy to wait. We gave our phone number and sat outside. At the 50 minute mark we walked in to check in since we hadn't heard anything, they said another 15 to 20 minutes. At the 20 minute mark, we still hadn't heard anything so we walked in again to check in. We were told that "we tried to call you and you didn't answer so we gave your table away and we can put you back at the end of the list." The phone had been on, sound on, staring at phone the entire time, no calls were made. We tried to say this, and the waitress apologized but said they couldn't do anything. At this point I was so irate I walked out and vowed to never return. Dissapointed in this place is a major understatement. I don't know if the owner of Mama Tigre was there when this was going on but I'm confident that they wouldn't have let it happen to us if they knew. read more
