Don't eat here if you have allergies... My girlfriend and I came here for coffee and pastries, but she is highly allergic to most nuts and especially pistachios. There were pistachios on everything, and there was no separation between the items with nuts, from the ones without. Also, there were two sets of tongs in the same bowl, and it didn't look like they had gloves anywhere for people with allergies. My girlfriend asked the employee if there were nuts in one of their scones, and the employee replied "its vegan." My girlfriend responded, "So are there?" And the employee said,"That means there aren't any. " That's not what vegan means. Got two pastries and two drinks, the blueberry latte and papaya matcha lemonade. The pastries weren't crispy at all and only satisfied me looks wise. While the square pineapple pastry has a beautiful filling that's delicious, the pastry itself lacks flakey and buttery layers and instead tastes like it was left out all day. The passionfruit beach hall has an awful filling that was way too sour and pungent to be in a delicate pastry (which, like the other was lacking flavor and texture) the drinks were lacking sweetness and were bad quality. The matcha lemonade tasted bitter as if the lemons were cut in half and left in the fridge for two weeks. The blueberry latte was bitter on the back end as it had a burnt flavor and lacked blueberry flavor. The music doesn't match the ambiance and the tables were not being cleaned in a timely manner. However, this was during peak rush hour and understandably the workers may have been overwhelmed while making drinks. I may try a different location when it is less busy to give this location a fair chance. The interior design is beautiful and would've been more welcoming had the music been different. The flavors are innovative and unique but would've been better if executed properly. Matcha had very little excuses for being so so horrible. Visually the cafe is outstanding and visually so are the pastries, but the beauty ends there. read more

Stopped in because the establishment was absolutely beautiful. Even from the outside the natural wood pergola stands out. There is great use of the space with group tables, counter seating, and couches with additional seating in a loft. Service is good. Not bubbly or enthusiastic but decent. I ordered a vanilla chai and it was more tart than I expected. The mocha seemed to be delicious. Definitely a good place to recuperate after walking union market, la cosecha, or dining at one of the nearby restaurants. I learned there are other franchises in Bethesda and Georgetown. I was in sheer disbelief at the low quality of food! My daughter and I both ordered a turkey and bacon sandwich with Red pepper aioli. The aioli looked like cheez wiz! This was definitely not house made or even a decent jar of Aioli. I also ordered a side of house potatoes. These potatoes were day old and warmed in a microwave! They were by no means fresh potatoes. they were dried out and shriveled up . They had the nerve to throw some greenery on top of them!! Went on a Sunday around noon and it was extremely packed but the wait for seating went by quick! You absolutely have to get the iced honey lavender latte!! One of the best lattes I've ever had I got the eggs ratatouille that wasn't too bad and the tomato basil soup that was delicious! My orders are regularly wrong, the food is not as good as it has been in NYC, and more than once my food has simply come out wrong. I ordered a standard Green Goddess salad after staff came out with the wrong order twice, my salad was missing quinoa and pumpkin seeds. Not to mention, there was barley any zucchini. Food took 20+ minutes on a slow Monday afternoon, but we were okay with that. Her food looked great, but mine came out without salmon. Friend confirmed I ordered it and it was on the check (with an upcharge). We pointed out the missing salmon to the server, who was incredulous. It was as if she never had to respond to food coming out wrong. She sent over a manager, who we had to explain the whole issue to again, and I showed her the receipt because she questioned if I ordered it. She said she'd bring me a side. I had to ask her twice to take it back and add the salmon; I paid extra for salmon avocado toast, and they could add it (I didn't want it remade, just added). She was reluctant to fix it and came back more than 5 minutes later with the salmon on a toothpick on the toast. I'm surprised a place with such lackluster service and lacking basic hospitality from all levels of service staff has such great reviews, especially at these prices. They gave me a refund, and said they'd make it ASAP, and I sat there for an extra 20+ minutes waiting for my sandwich while I watched countless other orders get fulfilled, only to find out that they canceled my order the second time... even though they saw me waiting there after I told them I was still waiting for my order the first time! After almost an hour, all I got was an apology that the food I had ordered wasn't made, and I had to insist on them still making the sandwich b/c they were going to send me away with a mere "mea culpa." Waiting an hour for a sandwich that should've taken 5-10 minutes is absurd. And consistently being ignored and overlooked as a customer is also not a good look. One of the worst experiences in DC. I left that place crying. The staff, the service were so rude so unprofessional awful. I was sitting outside waiting for my order, which if you have been to NOMA one you know it takes them 45 minutes for a cappuccino, and the staff told me I should move inside because of the rain. I went inside, at this point 30 minutes and counting waiting for TEA, the waiter comes and asks me if my dog is service animal. I said yes. She asked "what kind " I told her she has no right to ask me what kind as long as my dog is a service animal I don't have to explain "what kind" and what does that even mean!!??? Having already had 4 other bad experiences here, in none of those my dog was with me, I asked her to just wrap my order to go. She then tosses me my order over the counter. I told her that behavior was rude and the reply was I'm the manager today coming from NY it is what it is. Basically just paid 17$ for an avocado toast to be treated so badly. I left there so upset that I had to sit outside on another restaurant's chair and had a panic attack. The other restaurant staff was very nice and offered me some water and calmed me down.
