I always love Maman's seasonal offerings and the beautiful decor inside. They always have a fun twist on classic pastries that both look and taste great. The hot food is decent but my omelette was a little too well done. I am.a coffee snob..I admit that. Asked for a vanilla latte, and it was perfect. I am constantly asking baristas for the lattes "half sweet" because they pump the living daylights out of my drink. I did not have to do that here...color me shocked. The inside is pleasant. Clearly reminds me of chilling in the countryside somewhere. Always nice to have your food and drinks made fresh and delivered on an actual plate. Not just any plate, but the plates your granny may have scatted in her China cabinet. Price point is umm...expensive. 30 bucks for coffee, sandwich (ham and cheese) and a cookie. But you are paying for the experience, food quality, and let's be real....eating tasty food on actual plates. Will definitely come back as a treat to myself. I went on a Sunday before the snow storm, so it was decent. It's in the navy yard, and I paid for parking nearby (5 bucks for an hour). Don't let that scare you. Give this place a try. read more

Thank you maman for moving to the area! I absolutely love it here. The decor is top notch, it makes me forget I'm in the Navy Yard, and it puts me in a hyper focused mood. I accomplish so much when I work from here. There's plenty of seating and the flowers make the place so serene. It helps that the food and drinks are also delicious. They have savory dishes from sandwiches, bowls, and salads to quiches and a display of uniquely flavored sweet treats. I haven't been disappointed yet with anything I've ordered here. Their coffee drinks are also wonderful. They usually have a small seasonal menu by the cashier. My favorite drinks have been from that menu, so don't forget to take a look at it. They also have boozy drinks, I haven't ordered one yet, but I'll report back when I do. Overall, you won't be disappointed coming here. 10/10 would recommend. read more

A new coffee shop in navy yard! It has a lot of natural light and seemed to have a lot of tables around the cafe. The decor was very whimsical. When we got there, there were a lot of people at tables working and having their coffee. We ordered coffee and lunch for take out. We did not have to wait long. The coffee was good. Service is not attentive and the Wi-Fi is horrible. It felt like I was back in the 1990s. Even though it was not a busy hour, I saw that there were many tables that had dirty dishes on them and were yet to be cleaned. I appreciate that this café uses ceramic cups instead of disposable cups. The ambience would be perfect for studying if the Wi-Fi was better. read more

This Maman location at the Navy Yard is one of the cutest (possible the cutest) bakery/coffee shops that I've ever stepped into. I love indoor plant decor and porcelain china with traditional patterns so Maman's style made me happy. I ordered a cup of ginger tea, a cheddar and scallion scone, which was just what I expected from a savory scone, and a side of mixed greens, which was very fresh. Their food is excellent, the coffee drinks are both good and consistent (you know how some places are kind of a crap shoot if you're going to like what you get that day? A 3 because my wife absolutely loved the pastry and the coffee was delicious. Sadly, the service and delivery fell short on this visit. I ordered an iced coffee; clearly available on the menu. What I got was a hit drip coffee with a few ice cubes dropped into it. I asked for a cup of ice, which I received. After pouring some coffee into that, my original cup had some room. Love that maman has made its way to Navy Yard! The staff was all hands on deck for their grand opening today. Everyone was happily greeting customers and providing A+ service. The baristas did great at making drinks even with a minor system error occurring. Definitely will be frequenting this spot for their nutty chocolate chip cookies and variety of hot/cold drinks. I also got their Quiche Esther for the first time which came with squash, cheese and kale. It was quite a generous slice and very tasty! read more

The staff is very nice and the shop is cute. I find the pastries to be very dry, however. The croissants are dense and not flaky. The cruffin is dry and hard. The PB&J Cruffin looked so good, but I was very disappointed.i went first thing in the morning, yet it already tasted stale. The Raspberry White Chocolate Heart Croissant wasn't any better either, it was was as dry as a rock and flavorless. I ended up throwing it away. The Nutty Chocolate Chip cookie wasn't bad, just a little small. The regular chocolate chip cookie was extremely dry and as hard as a hockey puck. read more

Just looking at the interior of this cafe made me really happy! I love the kinds of plates and cups they use and I thought the cashier was very kind too. Make sure to get the pistachio chocolate croissant! It was so soft, flaky and delicious and it paired so well with a nice cup of hot black tea. A place more concerned with vibes than food or service. Spent all their effort decorating and forgot to learn how to make a pastry. Everything here is pretty, almost nothing is tasty. I have now been here about 10 times. I keep coming back hoping they have gotten it together and improved. Sadly they have not. I really wanted to like this place, but man if you are a French patisserie and your croissants are worse than frozen Trader Joe's ones, you really have lost the plot. The only redeeming food item is the quiche, which is typically good, but inconsistent in quality. The one I had today was poorly made and the crust was not properly sealed. Overall hugely disappointing. I was excited to see a "legit" bakery open in Navy Yard with a good looking menu and a comfortable environment. They may survive if a Tatte doesn't open up here. If they ever see real competition, they are toast. read more

They basically give you no option to avoid paying a fee. And if they do accept that cash, then they would, in fact, have cash on hand anyway, which undercuts her claim they have no cash on hand...but they don't because they have a sign that says NO CASH. Every other business in the community doesn't blame the city for their own non-compliant policies, as the owner does, and accepts cash in the same circumstances. Plenty of places are happy to take cash and prefer it, and it is required by DC law. I was surprised to see this NO CASH sign after emailing with the owner about it *a year and a half ago.* I walked right out when I saw the sign.) They also now have a self-serve bar which invites the spread of things like norovirus. There are no sneeze guards. They make it hard for me to support them even though I really have been trying to for years.

But the gem of this coffee shop is the baked goods! It is absolutely the most delicious and well made bread I've ever had in a coffee shop. I feel like they should be a bakery that serves coffee on the side. Their mushroom toast is out of this world! Like the best thing I've had in a long time. Their sourdough and multigrain bread is the foundation and the most beautiful one at that. The sauce is magnificent. Their croissant is as close to magic as you can get... I just wish I had come in time to have it warm. Their avocado toast is served with fresh piles of beautiful avocado. But again, the multigrain bread is the star! Their Pain Suisse... magic in a pastry... chocolate and pistachio wrapped in flaky croissant! beautiful and delicate... it's a must get!

Its such a delight to look at all their pies and cakes (and that they are still making them at a reasonable price), I opted to try their cannoli which had a crispy shattering shell with a not-to-sweet chilled ricotta filling. Our absolute favorite was their Rugelach, between chocolate and honey pecan, get both! The chocolate is on the dark side and pairs so well with the sweet almond of the dough. The honey pecan was such a decadent filling, intensely sweet and nutty, but in the best way possible.
