Cronut heaven! This place gets THE highest marks because I've passed by it for 5 years thinking that it's just a crappy little dump but I was really wrong about that. Really wrong. I was craving Cronuts the other day so I searched the area and there are only a couple places near Encino/Van Nuys that are servin up these high cal treats. So I ventured out and went in to see what they had to offer. The place is very clean, I had to park on the street but it was all good. So they had a nice selection of regular donuts and I see that they make some pretty incredible sandwiches there too for breakfast/lunch. Everything looked fresh and well prepared. So I set my gaze on the cronuts which were placed front and center, as to not be distracted by the other sweet treats. I, of course, ordered one of each! I have to taste everything. The lady asked if this was my first time there and I said yeah and that I had found them on yelp, as I checked in :) Came home, opened the box, and she had gave me a free cinnamon and sugar donut! How cool/nice is that? The cronuts were amazing, the service was great and I will definitely come back. It's the little things that make you want to frequent a place. I can see why they sell out of their donuts here. I did a tasting comparing Dunkin' Donuts to this place and Mama's Donuts overall is a superior donut. They have different types of cronuts here. At 6 am, someone bought all their cronuts. They only had the glazed left. I've cronut tastings all over LA. This version is among the best of them. I tried around three of their donuts taking a nibble of each comparing to the variety of donuts I bought at Dunkin' Donuts. This, right now, is my favorite donut shop in the Valley and up there with DK Donuts in Santa Monica. For traditional donuts, I like Earl's up in Chatsworth for donuts which open 24/7 for your all day donut craving. read more

Went here specifically for their infamous cronuts. Three of us tried them and sadly none of us found them to be that good. The cronuts were neither soft like a donut, nor flaky like a croissant. In fact we all agreed that they were pretty dry and bland. So disappointing. On the bright side, the other donuts from here were wonderful. Especially the cream puffs. Those were surprisingly delicious. Not to mention the customer service was spot on. I'll come back for their cream puffs and regular donuts. The Cronuts here are so amazing!!! I have been here a couple time already and I can not get enough of the Cronuts. They have tons of great options for donuts as well. This place is definitely a hole in the wall kinda place. It's located in a plaza in Van Nuys...or is it Lake Balboa? LOL Anyways, it's not a 24 hour operational kind of place but they do open really early in the morning and close at 6pm. I got there around 5pm. I know they carry cronuts but I called ahead to make sure they had any before I stopped by. LOL At $3.95 a pop...not bad! I picked up 4 - Rocky Road Nutella, Taro, Tirimisu, and Sticky Buns. They also had Maple bacon but too but I would definitely like to try this for another day. LOL So, I don't think they make their cronuts round the clock during open hours because they didn't have a fresh feel but I still ate 1/4 out of each donut. LOL It still tasted good to me. (Note: I said good, not great. LOL) My fave flavor out of the 4 was Nutella Rocky Road. You can't go wrong with Nutella - yummy! Of course getting here at the end of the day...I guess they quality is what to be expected. LOL Anyways, you can definitely tell that this is a mom N pop kinda operation. The lady running the place was so sweet when she asked if I was the one that called about the cronuts. She threw in 4 cream puffs. Those were yummy, by the way. Came here this morning to pick up some Cronuts for my people at work. The store is located in a shopping complex with ample parking. They accept credit cards which is a plus since most donut stores are cash only. The restaurant was clean despite the several people eating there. They have a wide selection of donuts, bear claws, cronuts and other breakfast items. The staff is very friendly and efficient. I bought one dozen cronuts and they gave me 2 for free. It was a BIG hit at work. The cronuts are so good and you can tell it was made fresh that morning. The taro cronut, tiramisu cronut and blueberry cronut were all hits. I live in Sacramento, and ordered a dozen each of their most popular donuts and cronuts for some clients in the Van Nuys area. When my client got there the next morning to pick them up at the appointed time, my card was declined -the bank flagged it as suspicious activity. How embarrassing for my client! But the awesome staff let her take them without payment and called me after she left to settle the account. I don't know a whole lot of businesses who would have let $70 worth of donuts walk out the door in good faith, and I'm so grateful they did, because it would have been horribly embarrassing for me if my client had been forced to pay or leave empty handed. I am so so grateful to Hung for his faith. To be fair, I anticipated the card could be flagged for suspicious activity and asked them to charge my card the day before when I placed the order so any complications could be dealt with before my client arrived at 7 am. The girl who took my order spoke slightly broken English, and I was disappointed to learn that she hadn't understood my request. Yum!!!! They have the best mini croissants and amazing taro cronuts. Yeah, I said taro cronuts. The lady who was helping me and my mom was super nice. We asked if we could get a discount because we were going to sell them at church for the Typhoon Haiyan victims. I actually don't know if we got a good discount because my mom paid, but we did buy some things for ourselves. We bought macaroon cookies and 2 taro cronuts. 1 cronut was supposed to be for me, but I ended up only having a little bit because we ended up sharing it with the rest of the volunteers at church who were serving food. The little that I did taste was pretty incredible. It was like taro whipped cream in between two crunchy and soft cronut buns... (I call them buns because they hold something in between). The texture of the "buns" is definitely better than the one from Spudnuts. The macaroon was really nice, soft and coconutty with a little bit of crunch on top. It was delicious! I will definitely come back. The customer service was excellent and the mini croissants, cronuts, and macaroons were bomb! You might miss this place because it looks like a little shack with green trim. It's along the south side of Sherman Way, cross street is Balboa. If you're going north on Balboa, there's an entrance right before the Sherman Way light. If you're going east on Sherman Way, once you pass the Balboa light, there's an entrance. read more

When I entered, there were a handful of older citizens occurring tables. Reading paper while babying a donut or two. I was greeted promptly and the guy behind the counter was friendly with his suggestions. I ended up with a croissant sandwich with eggs, bacon, and sausage. Also a chocolate cake donut with peanuts and a glazed twist. Not bad for brunch. The total was somewhere between $5-6. The food was decent. Exactly what I had expected from a place like this. I'm a pretty basic donut lover. Give me a maple old fashioned and I'm a happy guy. But they have this cronut with fruity pebbles and it's The Bomb! It has Bavarian cream in the middle and something about the combo of dough, cereal, frosting, and cream makes it fantastic. The people working there are very nice. I wish their burritos came with potatoes; and most of them have meat. But I look forward to trying their egg sandwiches in the future.
