This place is great! Not many brunch-y options in town, so we landed here and were not disappointed. It's a walk up & order type of place. Nice patio-plenty of space for your pup. Food is delicious but big portions so do come hungry! Service is great too. They also have a variety of mimosas! Will def be a place we frequent when in town!
Perfect spot for breakfast and bunch! You can either order at the counter and take a seat or get your order taken after seated. We found it easier to order at the counter. All of the servers and workers were amazing. All super attentive and friendly. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. The portions were generous. The breakfast burrito was massive and is what you picture when you think of a breakfast burrito. The chilequiles red sauce was good. When my bf and I go out for breakfast/brunch, we love to order something sweet to balance out our savory order. We ordered the tiramisu French toast and wow! It was a proper French toast and it had good flavor. It was a bit too sweet for my taste though. I'd recommend this spot to anyone visiting Idyllwild.
This was our second visit, and we'll definitely be back. We drive about an hour from La Quinta to get here, and it's absolutely worth the trip. The restaurant is always clean, organized, and welcoming, and the restrooms are spotless as well. I ordered the chilaquiles with steak and chose the red sauce. I can usually handle spicy food, but this dish definitely had a nice kick to it. Everything tasted fresh, especially the microgreens, onions, and black beans. I also added two eggs over medium, which were cooked perfectly. The steak had good flavor overall, but mine was cooked more well-done than I would have preferred. I wasn't asked for a preferred temperature, so I'm not sure if that's an option. The ribeye is also sliced very thin, which may contribute to it cooking through more quickly. If I could suggest one improvement, it would be serving this dish on a flat plate rather than in a bowl. The bowl made it a little challenging to cut the steak comfortably, whereas a flat plate would make it easier to enjoy. Overall, the food was delicious, the restaurant is consistently well-maintained, and the experience was excellent. Looking forward to our next visit
A yummy, classic breakfast. My Belgian Waffle combo hit the spot and my friend enjoyed her chilaquiles. The green juice was super grainy, but the tropical smoothie was great. Nice staff and didn't take too long to get food. A little pricey, but that's normal in the mountain towns. Beautiful outdoor patio seating.
Great place to eat we had the breakfast burrito and it's delicious can feed 2!! Oj was worth the price and service was fast Our daughter loved her kids portion Will return when we come back to town!!
This is a great breakfast spot with a relaxed atmosphere and comfortable outdoor seating. The service was friendly, welcoming, and made us feel right at home. On our first visit, we ordered the biscuits and gravy with eggs and sausage, along with the pancake combo featuring three eggs, bacon, and three buttermilk pancakes. Everything was delicious, and we also tried a couple of their fresh juice blends, which were refreshing and full of flavor. We came back the next day and ordered the Mediterranean omelette and the chilaquiles rojo. The omelette was absolutely outstanding and easily one of the highlights of our visit. The chilaquiles, however, were just okay in our opinion and didn't quite stand out the way the rest of the meal did. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience here. The food, welcoming atmosphere, and hardworking staff made it a place we'd happily return to. Thanks again, and we'll be sure to stop by the next time we're in the area!
Your bubble girl reviewer (peanut, tree nut, and seafood allergy) did not have an allergic reaction here. But always tell staff, so they are aware. Food came out very quick! My absolute favorite item I ate was the sausage. Incredibly juicy and very delicious. I wish we ordered more of it instead of the bacon, in my opinion. The fried chicken wasn't dry and was very crispy. The tiramisu french toast wasn't too sweet, but I also never add syrup. My favorite part about Idyllwild is that dogs are welcome almost everywhere, as long as they behave of course. So a stroller for the pups was great at all the restaurants, but there were a few just lying on the ground under the tables. It's nice that the tables are under some trees. I will definitely come back for breakfast again to try more!
The food was more than adequate - it is unfortunate that when the order was placed it was requested No Green bell Peppers no onions - double checked and still the order came wrong. We picked them out as best we could yet the green bell peppers permeated the eggs bummer. My waffle was hot and the eggs warm Beautiful outdoor setting - customer service though was lacking. - order the food at the counter, they do bring the food to you yet, when they do it is not with a smile or pleasantry. Other eateries in town have the; same pricing, seat you, take your order, delivery your food, and exchange pleasantries. That is the joy of going out to eat while vacationing. If I wanted to serve myself i could stay in my rental. Overall decent food just no friendly service, with a little attitude., Writing this bums me out
This place is unreal. Or it's what we ordered, I'm not sure as it was our first time there but the two dishes we got were 5 star dishes all the way. You order at the counter and the wait staff asks if you're sitting in or outside so they can find you and bring your food. I got the Chile verde omelette and it was divine. It was covered in Chile verde sauce as well as the tenderest pork your fork can handle. Viola! So so so good. Topped with avocado and got sourdough that was also very good, I opted for the side of a hash brown but I have to say, next time I wanna try the home fries as they look bomb!!! BF got the breakfast burrito that is made with ribeye!!! It was sooo goood. We went halfsies so I got half of this culinary delight and it was even better once you add in the chipotle sauce that comes on top. I wanna come back like tomorrow and maybe I shall!!!
Nice interior and exterior seating. Came today for breakfast with a big group. They had a lot of food options.They cleaned tables quickly as guests left so not a lot of waiting. The inside was pretty cozy. To order, you go to the register. It was really easy to order. Got the 3 combo with eggs,bacon, hasbrowns and sourdough toast. The bacon was good and crispy and hash browns were good too. We also got that California breakfast burrito and that was DELICIOUS. I highly recommend the burrito and chilaquiles because they also looked sooooooo good. I asked somebody who had it and they said they were absolutely delicious.
I loved the vegan huevos rancheros! The portion is great for $20 and very filling. I was shocked at all the vegan options and happy that they accommodate to everyone. The other dishes were great as well and most plates range from $20-30. At this restaurant, you review the menu and once ready you order at the register and pay. The service is friendly and I would definitely come back!
Stopped into Mama's Egg House while up in Idyllwild and absolutely loved it. The food was fresh, flavorful, and felt homemade in the best way. The portions were generous, everything came out hot, and you can tell they really take pride in their breakfast dishes. The service was warm and attentive, and the whole spot has that cozy, mountain-town vibe that makes you want to linger a little longer. It's the kind of place you can come for a relaxed morning, good coffee, and food that hits the spot. Would definitely come back next time I'm in Idyllwild.

COUNTRY GRAVY!! Finally. Someplace that knows the real ingredients and spices for COUNTRY GRAVY. I know that ingredient that puts it over the top and there isn't a place in San Diego county that knows it. When a place says, "we have the best Biscuits and Gravy, Chicken Fried steak and gravy etc etc", no you don't. Why? Your gravy is bland and boring. The second I put a forkful of Mama's Chicken Fried Steak and their Country Gravy in my mouth, I TASTED IT!! FENNEL and/or TARRAGON. THANK YOU! It is the most amazing gravy and their Chicken Fried Steak?? WOW! So crispy and crunch and tender. Really really good. This place has ruined Chicken Fried Steak and Country Gravy for every single restaurant in Southern California. It is THE best. Don't believe me, try it. Their sausage links are the best as well. Next time I've got to try their chilaquiles. They've got a few different kinds and they looked amazing coming out of the kitchen. All their food looked good. As for some "bad reviews" about their ordering system, it is posted on the door as you walk in. Those people must not be able to read. It's posted everywhere. ORDER AT THE COUNTER and then go grab a table. They bring it out to you. It's not rocket science. It's actually pretty smart and an efficient way to do business. We sat outside for breakfast. It was beautiful out. My husband had the Prosciutto Benedict with Country potatoes that were amazing. Best country potatoes I've ever had as well. San Diego County breakfast suck. I've got to drive 2hrs to Idyllwild to get me some good food. read more

This was our first trip to Idyllwild and randomly stopped here for some breakfast. We came back all three days we were here. The burger was amazing. We also tried their chilaquiles and ribeye and it was also amazing. Do yourself a favor and get a juice with a cup of ice on the side. EVERYTHING is amazing. Nice tequila choices. Can't say enough of this place. ITS A MUST TRY! read more

The mountains in Los Angeles are really bare. If you want to feel the forest, I drove to Idyllwild, which is about two hours away. This trip was decided on the spur of the moment, so I didn't do any research. I just picked a brunch shop that looked good, and it turned out to be pretty good. I wanted to eat fried chicken and waffles for a long time I didn't expect this dish to be real fried chicken + waffles, chicken is chicken and pancakes are pancakes. The fried chicken is sweet, and it's good to eat it on the spot, but it feels a bit weird to take it home and taste it again. The other plate is an ordinary American breakfast, a big bowl, and I choked on the three eggs. read more

The location is beautiful I loved the huge windows on the inside and the gorgeous outside deck. The cashier was super kind. I got the Chile Verde burrito and it was wholeheartedly the BEST BURRITO I've ever had. As a Mexican I'll say everything tasted super authentic. I can't wait to be back! read more

Put on your stretchy pants because you're going to be doing some serious eating here. The portions are large. The food quality is very good. We came for breakfast. You order at the counter and they bring you your food. We tried the tiramisu French toast, the waffle and egg breakfast, and the chilaquiles with green sauce. The French toast was sweet, but not too sweet. The waffle was big and fluffy. The chilaquiles was served with a bunch of crunchy chips, chicken, cotija cheese, beans, and a wonderfully tangy and moderately spicy tomatillo sauce. Plenty of seating inside and on the outside patio. We didn't get the breakfast burrito but it's a very popular choice here and it's as big as a whale. While on a weekend trip we had breakfast here on Sunday morning. There was a long line to place our order but it was worth the wait. Many options to choose from, from traditional breakfast to burritos and chilaquiles. The lunch menu has sandwiches and salads. Full bar and all. It's a great place to eat. It's cozy and clean. The outdoor seating was my favorite, feels like dining in the woods. Overall customer service was friendly and attentive. It's a good place to eat while in Idyllwild. read more

Amazing vegan breakfast options! There's even a dedicated vegan section on the menu, so there's no awkward conversation required. My family ordered the vegan chilaquiles, vegan breakfast bowl, and vegan huevos rancheros. Everything was delicious! Keep in mind that the sauce that comes on the huevos rancheros is spicy (and that's coming from someone who prefers mild so take that with a grain of salt if you like it hot!) The red salsa for the breakfast bowl is super spicy but it does come on the side so just be careful if you've got a mild palate like me! We went for a late breakfast on a Friday and found a table quickly. There's a big patio area out front if you prefer to eat in the brisk air but we chose to eat inside where it was warm and cozy. Overall this place gets 5-stars from me and my family. We look forward to going back and trying more yummy vegan food! read more
Highly recommend for breakfast if visiting and/or living in Idyllwood. My table of two shared the breakfast burrito (subbed the meat for avocado) as well as the tiramisu French toast. The potatoes in the burrito were very well seasoned and the portions to each ingredient were equally split. The tiramisu French toast was a great option for anyone with a sweet tooth. We also ordered fresh orange juice and an iced vanilla latte. Both great. Keep in mind, orders are made fresh to order, so the food may take some time to come out. Nevertheless, worth it. read more

A cute place with huge portions but the wait was super long and I felt way overcharged on my decaf coffee. I ordered a medium "plain hot decaf" and the receipt showed they charged me an extra $1.75 to get an "extra shot" since it was a 16 oz; they explained they only have the 16 oz size, and she made another in front of me with "2 shots" from the fancy machine - of something I didn't even order! (I noticed when I asked for my free refill that they gave me no shots at all = which was actually how I ordered the original drink!) I felt manipulated into a higher priced item than I wanted. It seemed a little pricey, but it was a little less than the other recommended place in town, and much quieter with the lovely outdoor seating...though insects were rampant! I almost gave 3 stars for all the hassle, but the delish food in huge portions tipped my scale a little up. read more
We had a wonderful breakfast here, lotsa space for indoor and outdoor seating. I got the biscuit with gravy which came with scrambled eggs and a cup of fruit. Hubby got the chipotle chicken sandwich with a side salad. I also got an iced matcha latte since it was a warm morning. Everything was delicious and the staff was helpful and friendly. You order your food inside at the counter, and they will bring out the food to you. There are self-serve water, utensils, and take out boxes for convenience as well. Wish we had another day in Idyllwild so we can have another meal here. read more

We've had steak and chicken chilaquiles but never birria chilaquiles, they were delicious and so was the michelada. The outside seating was nice and peaceful, be advised that you order inside and food is brought to your table. We didn't tip inside as it was out first time there, we wanted to wait until we tasted food and experienced the service. Definitely going back read more

We drove up to Idyllwild for a weekend getaway and decided to have brunch at Mama's Egg House as our first stop, as I've read good things about them. First up, the place was very easy to find, and they had a small parking lot, and there was street parking as well. Once inside, we fell in line to order at the counter. There was a short line at around 11 am, but the line moved pretty quickly. The staff were friendly, and everyone was nice. We decided to eat inside as it was a little too hot outside, but they do have a large patio. We ordered their chile verde omelette (recommended by multiple online articles) and the chilaquiles with ribeye steak, and since we were staying for the weekend, we also ordered their steak and breakfast burritos to go. The chile verde omelette was just okay (it actually looked more delicious than it tasted - see pic), the salsa verde was a tad too sour for our tastes. I kind of regretted getting the green salsa for the chilaquiles too. The ribeye steak was the best part (it was tender, flavorful and juicy), or so I thought! Getting to our cabin, we were too full to eat our burritos that day so we ate them the following days.. and we enjoyed them way more than the omelette and chilaquiles. The burritos were huge, and packed with goodness, haha. They microwaved well, and we enjoyed them with the red salsa they provided. Highly recommend the steak burrito! We would go back to get that ifever we visit Idyllwild again. read more

The food was just OK... the pancakes were the best thing. The chile rellano isn't roasted so it was very hard and crunchy like a bell pepper. The ham was regular like any other ham. Nothing special. The service was also OK, after the server dropped the sauce all over our table read more

We were the first to arrive. The server gave us menus to read, but you go up to the front to order. I had a chile verde omelet with coffee, and she had a chilaquiles and steak with sunset lover juice. I ordered and gave my name. Our order was delivered in a timely fashion. The food was great. My dish was great because it already had sour cream on top and avacado slices. Her steak was tender and sliced very easily. We ate outside, and the weather was perfect. The surrounding customers were enjoying their food as well. If you are visiting Idyllwild, I would highly recommend this place if you want a great breakfast to start off your day! read more

Stopped by for brunch on our spontaneous trip to Idyllwild. Got the pancake plate with sausage and the chipotle chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. They have both indoor and outdoor seating - we ended up sitting inside because it was chilly and loved the beautiful view of the snowy mountains while eating. The chicken sandwich was juicy and flavorful but the entire sandwich fell apart after the first bite so we had to eat it with a fork and knife. Sweet potato fries were delicious - crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The pancake plate was good but nothing super special. read more

We love Mamas House every time we are in Idyllwild we have to have it!!!! It's fresh and delicious the service is fast and friendly. Would recommend the chicken and waffles and the green chilieqiles as well as the pancakes so gooood every time. Their side of breakfast sausage is top tier. read more

We went to Mamas Egg house because it's one of the few places we haven't tried in Idyllwild. It's a casual diner type eatery with great outdoors patio. They don't have table service and you order from the counter. Beer and wine only. I had the lobster Benedict and it was pretty good, the sangria was also great. Went camping over this weekend with friends and decided to grab breakfast here! We came around 9am and it was packed. We were a party of 6 so the staff took our names down and we only waited for 10 minutes. Once our table was ready, we all ordered our food at the counter. Lots of items to choose from! They offer both sweet and savory dishes and a wide variety of drinks from juices to coffee. Service was fast and the staff is super friendly! read more

Mama's egg house was excellent. My wife and I went up there one Sunday morning for breakfast. It was a beautiful day we sat on the patio. I had the California burrito. I loved it. My wife had the artichoke heart omelette. She also loved it. Then we went through it for a walk in the village And had a very nice time. I highly recommend this restaurant. Most of the reviews show plastic / styrofoam (haven't seen in CA since the 90s...). If you eat there do they serve on plates? I thought Idyllwild would be eco friendly but there's so much plastic packaging at the restaurants!
