The BEST traditional Mexican in town. The people that work here are fun, very very professional, clean, and tentative to all customers. Small hole in the wall, but truly a hidden treasure. They are English and Spanish speaking, and comfortable for either crowd. They also have AMAZING Fideo, just like mama makes at home. Found this restaurant while visiting San Antonio this summer. Not your typical TEX MEX. This is more authentic Mexican food from South of the border. We were on a road trip across the US and stopped in San Antonio to see friends. They demanded that we get breakfast tacos at Mama's Kitchen. Our rule for the trip was that we would never eat at the same place more than once.... We went to Mama's Kitchen two days in a row. The breakfast tacos are delicious and hearty - I had two and didn't need to eat again until dinner. They are $.99 between 6-9am! Not that they are expensive otherwise. Staff is friendly, service is fast, and it feels like a real down home sort of place. Highly recommend that you eat here for breakfast or lunch. read more

Great Mexican food! My wife and I were in from out of town and were looking for an authentic Mexican food place for breakfast and found it at Mama's. If you are looking for a fancy restaurant, this is not it. If you are looking for great food and service, this is the place. You walk into a wood frame "house" and pass by home grown chile plants in pots by the front door, which gives you a clue that the salsa will be fresh. As you walk in, you see ladies cooking in the kitchen which reminded me of walking into my abuelas house back in the day with all her sisters cooking for a big gathering. I ordered ala carte tacos and was not disappointed, the homemade corn tortillas were probably top 3 in my lifetime as far as corn torts. My wife went with a lunch item and loved it. The only thing she did not like was onions on top of her mole enchiladas which she picked off. Just an FYI for people that do not care for raw onions. The experience was great, the only thing is that the tables are really close together because of the small building and our table was uneven but it should be expected with a small family run place like this. It did not bother us but just putting it out there so people go in with the right expectations. read more

Our family stopped here before Fiesta Texas for breakfast tacos. The tacos were a good size and are only 99 cents before 9am. They have the best salsa my husband has ever tasted! the caldo was not fresh, it came out of the freezer in ziploc bags, then reheated and added more spices for a fresh taste, but i did like the carne guisada it had a spice flavor, couldnt tell if it was fresh or not , due to not seeing come out of the freezer like the caldo. it taste ok, but it could of been better, meaning FRESH, considering the price i paid. read more

Went here for lunch yesterday and this place has such good food and flavors! My husband ordered the crunchy taco plate and I ordered the #5 chicken Verde enchilads. They bring you chips and salsa when you are seated and our order and food was out within 10 minutes. We both loved our meal! Very family like atmosphere moderate noise still able ro hear one another and talk. We will be back for sure and don't judge the outside, just go in and eat! I never thought I'd give this place a bad review since my kids and I have been coming here for a few years. It used to be great! Recently a new owner bought the place and that's when things started going downhill!! I love their enchiladas Mexicana's and my boys love the carne al pastor tacos. The enchiladas taste completely different, the Chile Colorado is not the same at all. The worst part came when I went to pay, I saw the owner/cook scraping some ones beans with her finger on to the plate!! she could have used a spoon but no she used her finger!! how disgusting!! My beans were so dry and over microwaved that I didn't even eat them! Thank goodness for that! I am very, very disappointed. The food has changed a lot with the new owners. The old owners used the utmost cleanliness when preparing the food. I do not see good things for this restaurant anymore.. I for one will not be going back! read more

i love this place. quality traditional authentic mexican breakfast. you will not be disappointed. i recommend even for a coffee in the morning. it being an old house converted into a cozy restaurant and the original hard wood floors that you would find in any of the homes on this side of town, really do make you feel like your in grandmas or mamas kitchen. read more
