We're traveling from out of town, staying down the street, and the reviews for this place were solid so we decided to try it out. It did not disappoint. I was pretty pleased from beginning to end. The mango margarita with chamoy and tamarind was just okay, but it soothed my tongue and lips that were on fire from the delicious, yet spicy elotes. The mambo rice that everyone raves about was pretty good. The coolest part of the night for my hubby was getting to pick out his fresh whole catfish that he chose to have fried. Finally got to stop at this Mambo Seafood location right off the interstate 45, the parking was not too bad while it was still early in the day, the inside setup with the tables were really nice, the employees were very nice and very tentative, I liked the fried rice, gumbo, crawfish and whole red snapper and I definitely recommend trying this place out, it's definitely a long wait during busy days especially on the weekends but it's definitely worth it. read more

Mambo is always a local favorite for myself and friends. I got a flat tire and decided to drown my sorrows in some excellent shrimp fried rice, fried shrimp fish and a tamarind margarita. I came on Ash Wednesday so next time I'll make sure to come when it is not as busy! However, the waitress was very nice and helpful. It took about 30 minutes to get my empanadas appetizer but we figured it was due to it being busy. So by the time we received our food (another 30 Minutes later) we just took it to go. We didn't have to continue to wait on drink refills or more time so we took it. The food was still fresh when we got home. The only thing I didn't like is that I was charged $5/meat I ordered extra. I only asked for shrimp extra. So $5 extra turned into $20. By the time I noticed we were home and we ruled out that it was bc the girl was busy. Anyways, I may possibly return here again but we will check to make sure we don't go when it's super busy and check our receipt before we walk out read more

Only four stars because I didn't enjoy the fried calamari they were fried too hard and not much meat to it! Other than that five stars for the mambo shrimp and that fried whole snapper makes my mouth water right now thinking about it! We were at Mac Haik all day and decided to get a bite to eat, so I ordered here...We ordered the whole redfish with rice and grilled vegetables. The fish was VERY dry and tiny, the vegetables were soggy, and they didn't tell me the rice came with shrimp. I'm allergic to shellfish. We both got sick the same night, and I know it was Mambo's because that's the only food we had eaten that day. No stars this was the worst fried rice, shrimp, fish, stuff crab... it's fried batter is soft fried all shrimp,Tilapia fish! All no seasoning at all the stuffing was not tasty at all, I didn't even try the stuffed shrimp... I threw the whole meal away! I mean who messes up shrimp fried rice yuck!!! I have only been to this Mambo's location twice. The first time the dinner went unnoticed. We went, we sat, we ordered, we ate, we left. Nothing at all was amazing or worth mentioning. The second time I went to pick up a to go order. I went in and ordered, waited 10 minutes for it to be ready and left. One thing I do have to mention is that I got really sick from that food and it didn't get me until about 12am that night. They sell the same type of food as Connie's, but Connie's is way better. Sorry, but I am not a fan of Mambo's and doubt I would ever go there again if I have another choice. read more

I will say when you walk in, it is a bit different than anything I've experienced. We weren't sure who our waitress was because we kept getting visits from different people. The wait wasn't long for one of us..... They only brought us one meal they obviously thought I could skip a meal they finally brought us the other plate but by then we just booked it up. Let me just start with: i FREAKIN' love Mambo's!!! Ugh, their Mambo rice with shrimp is ADDICTING. They give lime on the side, so I usually squeeze a bit on the rice and my taste buds explode. I ordered the #1 on the classic menu which has 2 fish fillets and 4 fried shrimps. You can choose French Fries or the mambo rice. Of course I went with the Mambo rice!! Paid about $8-9, they give a little bit more than enough food, and dang, the food is just super good so definitely worth it. My family and I used to dine in, but lately we've just been calling in and taking it to-go. I'm quite sure this is where the lower ratings come in. Service is not the best and there is usually a long line to get seated. It can also get loud and hard to walk through. Because of that, I decided to come by 40 minutes after I placed my order to avoid waiting as I ordered around noon. When I got to the to-go cash register by the bar, I was given my order, paid, and walked out. Definitely recommend trying this place out if you want cheap good seafood. Amazing that a Mexican seafood restaurant cooks the best fried rice in the country. My personal favs is #2 on the menu, 6 fried shrimp with Mambo rice. Don't waste your time with the salad. Just ask for double Mambo rice! Do try the Mambo Style Shrimp. Yes it is messy but it has the best seasonings. Not too hot but wow it is good. This is what I order when I need a garlic fix and I am wearing causal clothes. If you are a visitor to the Houston area you need to try Mambos! Don't limit yourself to our great TexMex restaurants.
