We tried Mami's Empanadas after noticing several food trucks on the street outside our hotel - this being one of them. The experience was just okay. The empanadas weren't fresh, they had been sitting in a warmer. We tried all 3 varieties of empanada and all 4 sauce options. The empanada's tasted good, but they were luke-warm on the inside. If they were hotter I think I would have enjoyed them even more. The meat filled empanadas were very good, but we found the domino (bean and cheese) to be a tad lackluster in comparison. The truck was a block or so from the southern end of Waikiki beach; so a fairly quick walk for a beach day snack!

Off to watch sunset at Waikiki & fun thing to do with that is have something to munch while enjoying the sun setting in for the day. Got myself some empanadas to go and glad I did. This food truck was conveniently located on Hyatt Place's side street. Along with other food trucks (which I'm gonna try next time) Mami's Empanadas humbly offers 3 flavors ftm (beef & potato, chicken, vegan potato). Food: Chicken Empanada - filled with chicken meat, tasty and seasoned well. A bit dry but for quick eats like this, not bad. Beef & Potato - more on potato and less beef meat. Kinda dry filling and would probably skip this one next time. I'm not sure but the empanadas looked like air-fried. I'm so used on deep fried empanadas way back home and it's always hit differently. These empanadas are small too so don't expect too much from it. Other than that I enjoyed my sunset viewing with my empanadas. The guy who's also a cashier and at the same time preparing the food was very nice and helpful. He even suggested the garlic sauce on it which I agreed and t'was actually a good idea for dipping sauce. Mahalo for reading and happy juandering fellow yeeps!

Great empanadas and decently priced. Tried three flavors- chicken, beef and potato, and domino (beans - cheese). My favorite flavor was the domino, but they are all tasty and filling. Bonus that they are gluten free since they're made with corn masa.

We loved these! Pleasant surprise. Reasonable prices--we got these & went to the resort & made rice & cut up a pineapple! Delish! We had chicken, beef & potato & bean cheese. Beef & potatoes was our favorite. Masa was perfect! I love how a lil cutter marks which empanada has what filling in it!

Quick eats. Amazing service. Really nice owner of this place. His truck is parked on a side street with a few others. We got 2 beef potato empanadas and requested for a few sauces and he was so excited to share sauces and let us try a bunch. Highly recommend. We actually walked out of our way to try this!

I was excited to try these because it's the only Colombian food I was able to find in Hawaii. I ordered the chicken, beef, and Domino empanada and tbh they were pretty mid. The dough was bland/flavorless and they didn't really have much meat in the inside. The temperature was okay, could've been a little warmer. Overall, I wouldn't go out of my way for these again. I've had better empanadas in other places (I'm Colombian so I know a thing or two about empanadas). However I do need to say that the guy working the food truck was very friendly and helpful. He provided great customer service.

Got a beef empanada and chicken soffrito empanada. The empanadas were ok but definitely worth a try. The prices a bit steep for one empanada. It's still worth a try though if you are in the area. They are in Waikiki near where all the hostels are. Parking can be a bit challenging but if you are on foot in the area then you should check it out.

I was staying at the Hyatt which is right next door and wanted to try this food truck. After reading all the great reviews and recommendations on calling/texting your order in advance I did just that. I ordered beef and chicken empanadas and the arepa de chocolo. The food takes awhile so you need to order in advance, my order took about 40 mins. The beef empanadas were good but the chicken ones were amazing. I'm usually a more of a beef eater but I was surprised how delicious the chicken ones were. The arepa was also amazing. It was really nice to find a Colombian place in the middle of Waikiki.

    Chicken and beef empanadas nice!

Flavorful empanadas. I had the beef empanada with mild salsa and it was a nice snack. I would love to come back and try the other items as well! There was no line and it was quick and easy to get my food.

Charging $4 for an empanada that's literally 3 bites is expensive. I had the black bean & cheese empanada & it was okay at best. I've had some very good empanadas & these didn't even come close.

During my boyfriend's transaction, he didn't realize it was cashless, and the employee, Mitchel T, repeatedly pressured him to put his cash in the tip jar - mentioning things like a ski trip and family to convince him to hand the cash over as tip. It quickly became uncomfortable. When picking up our first order (2 platters, 2 drinks), the same employee asked if I could carry everything. I said I'd try, but instead of giving me the drinks, he handed me only the 2 platters and angrily sighed before setting the drinks back down. As I went back for the drinks, he instead handed me the remaining two platters. I turn to set those down and while doing so I guess he thought now I would be able to handle carrying 2 platters and 2 drinks. Because I didn't grab the drinks this second go around, the worker called me a "F***ING IDIOT." When I said, "that's rude," he doubled down - telling another customer I was an idiot because he was "busy" (there was only one person in line). My boyfriend calmly tried to address it, but the employee refused, completely ignored him, and continued glaring at us as we left. Other customers also expressed how rudely treated they were at this location. We spent nearly $100 to be treated with hostility. Completely unacceptable.

While we have some great Hawaiian garlic shrimp spots in Arizona, we had to at least try to get some garlic shrimp while on Oahu. We gave this place a try just because we were already in the building. It was ~$30 and easily shareable with 2-3 people. Everything tasted great and I loved the smokey flavor and bbq sauce. Beef brisket and short rib were kinda tough and chewy. It came with three sides so I got cole slaw, potato salad, and Mac and cheese. Cole slaw and Mac and cheese were solid; Potato salad was just alright. They also gave one warm bun too. The reason I gave 3 stars was because service was extremely slow. It seemed like they were short staff and had one person at the cash register AND getting the food. He would take a few orders, and then grab the food. When I arrived, he was grabbing food for multiple folks so then I stood there waiting like 15 just to place my order. Then when he restarted and took my order, he took like 5 more orders before grabbing the food so then I waited even longer for another 15 min. That's 30 min of waiting! Also he wasn't serving food in the order that orders were received so it felt actually felt even longer. There needs to be a better system! Surprisingly he did a employee discount on my order. However, after having to abandon our original dinner plans, we were no less intrigued after randomly stumbling across this place. While they may not have been our first choice for dinner, coming here was far more appealing than eating fast food or at the nearby IHOP! Although seeing so many folks at this mini food truck park may have been what caught our attention, it was the boxes of fried chicken on nearly every table that swayed us to try Waikiki Chicken in Paradise in particular. After skimming the menu, it wasn't hard to see why they were such a popular choice - everything on it sounded great. Granted, that's not overly difficult when there are only eight items to choose from, but tough to argue with the likes of fried chicken loco moco, fried chicken curry rice, fried chicken sandwiches, chicken & croffle, and fish & chips! Since we saw how big the portion were and didn't want anything too heavy (read: sadly, no loco moco or Japanese curry), we opted to split a FRIED CHICKEN RICE PLATE ($16.95) which came with a Fried Chicken Cutlet over White Rice with Mac Salad & Green Salad. Funny enough, despite already having a sense of how much food they give, I was still surprised by the generous portion size. As for how it all tasted, this was great. The breading on the chicken reminded me of Popeye's (though, without the spice), the batter was crispy, and the chicken itself was rather moist. As for the sides, the mac salad was pretty good, but the salad was a little heavy on dressing. If there was one thing I could change about our order, I think I'd want to see how it would taste with a sauce or glaze. At the very least, I'd definitely go with a different dipping sauce, like their Pineapple Ginger, Lilikoi Mayo, or Guava BBQ, as the Honey Mustard we went with tasted a bit generic. Of course, we could've solved both problems if we had gone with the Fried Chicken Loco Moco or Fried Chicken Curry Rice instead! I guess I'll just have to wait until the next time I'm in Waikiki!
