This place already had the best pizza downtown. They now have homemade ranch and it is phenomenal. Highly recommend stopping here for some amazing food. The buffalo chicken and chicken bacon ranch slices are perfection. The plain slices are crisp and filled with the flavors from their fresh ingredients. They also offer great specials throughout the week and are one of the only good value spots downtown anymore. Homemade lasagna for $6.99 on Wednesdays, what a deal.

Decent and affordable pizza joint downtown if you're in the mood for a slice. Crust was nice and hot and crispy, not greasy (although some like that!) Cheese and tomato sauce were pretty standard; I would have amped up with some oregano or seasoning, but it wasn't bas at all. The side salad was ok (more like a few lettuce leaves buried under a mountain of cheese). People at the counter were very nice and gives family-owned business vibes. Glad I came and would come back for lunch again sometime.

Average pizza, good crust. $6.25 for a slice and small soda. It's downtown so it doesn't have the best client telling in the world.

Hands down best pizza in Pittsburgh. Got 2 slices and a drink for $10. The crust is amazing. Would recommend 100%!!

    Creative offering for downtown workers.

I never reviewed this spot when it was right across the street from my office building and in a much smaller location. I never stayed for dine-in then, as the place was pretty run down and tiny, but I'd sometimes place an online order and get it to go. I knew they were moving to the Oliver Building (Sixth or Smithfield depending on your approach) due to being uprooted by new development, but didn't realize they had opened until I was on the way to somewhere else for lunch today, passed their bustling new location and abruptly changed my plans. The new space is open, clean and bright. This is now a location where you can grab a slice at the counter to take out, order in advance, or grab lunch with a couple coworkers. They have specials like a slice of lasagna for $5.99, and breakfast pizza for $2.99, which includes egg and cheese. I am definitely coming back to try that in the morning hours! I believe there is also a breakfast calzone with the same fillings. Being a somewhat boring pizza eater, I got two slices of plain. I often used to get their thick crust which I recall is very good. The thin is good, too. It's not my favorite thin crust, if I'm being honest. I prefer a crisper NY style, and this one is just a little doughy for my taste. But this is an honest, straightforward pizza slice and the workers are friendly and fast. I'll also definitely try a hoagie and some of their other menu items here. Terrific to see this family-owned place reborn in the new space, looking even better for the move!

My review is based on the quality of the food, not the ambiance of the restaurant. To sum up Mamma Lucia Pizza, the food is great, but the restaurant is a dump. I walked past Mamma Lucia's this morning and saw the sign for the Friday fish sandwich special. Of course, why would you order fish at a pizza restaurant? By noon, I was ready to try it out. I ordered online through Yelp. Since it was just around the corner from my hotel, the order was still being prepared when I arrived, which was fine. There were a lot of locals there, which is aways a good sign. Reading the menu board, the prices are very reasonable. I always observe the cooks as you can tell a lot about the food based on how they prepare it. I worked as a cook in college, so I appreciate people that know what they are doing. The two guys preparing the food were very good, and the lady taking orders was very nice. For $7.40 for a fish sandwich, fries, and a 16oz drink, you know the fish is going to be frozen. Even so, the two fillets on the sandwich were very good. the lettuce, onion, and tomato were very fresh as well. The portion of fries was very generous, and they had a good choice of 16oz bottled drinks. I also watched the cooks prepare pizzas and calzones, they looked very good as well. Overall, Mamma Lucia Pizza is a great place to get a "working man's/woman's lunch" for a very reasonable lunch, even though I am in Pittsburgh goofing off.

Very good food. Pizza was crispy. I had spaghetti with meat balls with garlic, good quality and portion size. Friendly staff very welcoming. The decor is very welcoming, mellow vibe. Definitely recommend.

I was downtown near Market Square and decided to stop at Lucia Pizza shop. The staff where friendly and nice and service was great. I ordered 2 slices of pepperoni pizza to go. The pizza was ok sauce was better than average. The one disappointment was that there was only 3 pieces of pepperoni on each slice of pizza. A bit chintzy if you ask me. With all the great pizza places in pittsburgh I would give Lucia a pass in the future. As the pizza was average nothing special i would of given it 4 stars maybe 3 1/2 tops but since the pepperoni was non existent most i can do is give it 3 stars which is being nice. Another quick note a lot of customers where ordering hero's. I might be so inclined to go back and try a hero but not the pizza

Super good! Surprisingly good! I always hurried passed this one because it looked like your typical hole-in-the-wall greasy spoon places. Thanks to the good reviews I saw here on Yelp, I finally decided to give it a shot. It's a tad confusing to have to go to the back of the place to order your food, but the menu and plenty of friendly folks are there to help you once you get there. The pizza is what I love to get. The price isn't bad and you can get one slice or more, which I love since I don't always want to be stuck with an entire pizza. The pizza. My. Oh. MY. It's so savory! They add plenty of any topping you choose, so you're sure to get the full flavor of whatever you're seeking depending on what you're getting. I have yet to try the other items on the menu, but I know they smell delicious anytime another customer walks away with them. I'll for sure be back to try some of them!

Been working downtown for a few years now and was always hearing about this place so I finally gave in. I love mom n pop places and this place reminds me of a pizza place you see on TV. The owner is extremely nice and pleasant and actually dilivered my order himself.... By foot! The pizza looks like your basic slice although the slices are huge. That first bite had me. Not sure whey it tasted so good but man it was probably the best slice I've had in years. The cheese was amazing and by the time I are it it was lukewarm and I still devoured it. Prices are beyond reasonable and they have specials 5 days a week

If you do, this place is for you…read more This place was started by Joe Primanti in 1933 to feed shift workers from the local warehouses (coal and iron) and railroads. They are known for big sandwiches which now includes fries and cole slaw. The sandwiches provided value to workers...who were looking for a place to feed themselves to keep their energy up for a long shift. When you sit at the bar and you can only imagine the workers that sat here to feed themselves with what little they had. They found a sandwich between two pieces of soft Italian bread with a good balance of meat, cheese, cole slaw and fries...think energy and value. The history here is real and intense. Would I rate this as a culinary destination? Not particularly but I would say it's a must see to be part of US history as the town righted itself and came to life. The sandwich? I had the pastrami with cole slaw, egg, fries and tomato on Italian bread. Remarkably, the sandwich was light...despite it sounding heavy. The cabbage and tomatoes bring a great balance to the sandwich which makes it messy and remarkably light. Be prepared to get messy..so eat fast! I am probably talking too much about the sandwich...just go try it. The food is probably a 3.5 but it gets the extra .5 for the amazing history there. The service was great...well educated on the product, accommodating in every way. If you are in Pittsburgh, this is a must try.

I had to go across the street to use the restroom because theirs were nasty. It required going down a steep set of stairs, and the women's bathroom floor was wet. There was also a bucket catching brown water dripping from somewhere, which was pretty concerning. The wings and onion rings were just average and didn't really stand out. There are newer locations of this restaurant that I'd recommend instead. Based on my experience, you'll likely have a much better overall visit at one of those locations

You have to try one of the signature sandwiches (various meats topped with coleslaw and fries and amazing, thick bread). Something to note is that this isn't a creamy coleslaw. In fact, on its own it doesn't have much flavor (mostly just pepper) but it somehow pairs well with the sandwich. The downside to this location is that they aren't exactly the best at table turnover/cleaning tables and the restaurant itself doesn't feel spotless (like some other locations do). But in a way, it kind of adds to the vibe of the place. There are several parking garages and also on street parking nearby. Nice that it has late hours most evenings (since a lot of downtown restaurants seem to close fairly early). Definitely worth a visit.

We stopped by while walking around the Strip District looking for a quick lunch. During lunch service, you order at the kiosk, find a seat, and clean up after yourself, which makes for a casual and easy experience. Food: The tomato sauce here is probably some of the best red sauce I've had in a long time. We ordered the Caprese Panzanella, meatballs, crispy potatoes, and spaghetti with red sauce. Everything was delicious, but the salad completely stole the show for me. It was packed with fresh ingredients, bright flavors, and so many different textures that worked perfectly together. Now, I am going to take you on a journey just like the books Belle read so strap in. We had a 5:45 PM reservation, and even arrived a few minutes early. The hostess/employee (I don't want to assume positions) took me upstairs for a table right by the window, which will be an awesome view when the construction finishes. It was also a beautiful sight of that part of the city as-is. When I was seated, I was one of a few tables seated. It was not full or even busy at that time. Also, as we were seated, we were given waters. My friend joined me about 5-7 minutes after the reservation time. We then ordered our drinks at about 6:00/6:05 PM. From there, we waited and did not meet our waiter, who will be referred to as sweet baby angel Max from here on out, until about 6:20 PM. We ordered an appetizer and two entrees at around this time. Our orders had some modifications but nothing major. By this time, many more tables were seated upstairs and others seemingly received their alcoholic drinks and even appetizers by the time we received only our drinks around 6:30-6:40. Our drinks were big, too, which is great, but that also meant we had to drink them a little more quickly due to the time constraints with the show. We were enjoying ourselves but noticed multiple more tables receiving not only their drinks and apps but also their entrees. Once 6:55 came, we had to tell sweet baby angel Max about our predicament. I will be honest and say we suggested for our drinks to be comped at least - not only for the wait and lack of courtesy with everyone else receiving their items before us despite our arrival and reservation time, but for the fact that we would have maybe 15 minutes to eat, finish our drinks, pay, take our food back to our cars, and make curtain time. What sweet baby angel Max did next flabbered our gasts -- he said not only will our drinks be comped but our whole meal will be comped. He also helped pack our food and kept it in the back so we didn't have to worry about going back to our cars. We made sure to tip him with all we had! We are so glad we did because when we returned after the show, he had the kitchen remake the food and kept it warm for us. When you go to The Eagle, ask for sweet baby angel Max and you will not be disappointed with him, the service, or the food. Because even when they may mess up? The Eagle gets it right with their classy attitude and positive treatment of their customers. You definitely have multiple return customers just from this encounter. Thank you!!!
