We are staying here for 2 nights and 3 days. You get the real mountain feel. The living room has a fireplace and full stocked kitchen except the food. One room has a king bed but the room is to small for a king, the bathroom is also small. The other room has to queens over each other like bunk beds. Their bathroom is bigger. Other than trying to fit to much in a small amount of space it's great. Just 10 mins down to the lakes. The kids went fishing for 4 hrs out on a boat. Now it started to rain and they're in the pool and spa. It's always fun time. School starts next week so it's a week of fun. Isn't that what Grams and Gramps do. Lots of places to eat but very expensive. No fast food except Carl's. This must be a high class resort. read more

We stayed at Unit 108 for 2 nights this past weekend and loved it. We've stayed at Mammoth Lakes multiple times and so far, this place is such a good deal. Considering it is literally less than a 5 minute walk to the Village & the gondola which takes you directly to Canyon Lodge. LOCATION! LOCATION! LOCATION! Perfection. Just a short drive to Old Mammoth Road (Von's for groceries) and the Mammoth Brewery. The studio condo was perfect for 4 people. Included a queen bed and a queen sofa bed. Had a fully furnished kitchen complete with pots and pans. Microwave, toaster, and a fridge. It also had a cute little balcony. The condo, although a little outdated, was clean and had everything you needed for a comfortable stay. Parking was easy. The main office is just down the stairs from this unit and you can ask them for more toiletries if necessary. I called a few days early to let them know I was coming in way past their office hours and they made sure I was able to enter the unit & have all the information I need for the stay, and to just check-in with them in the morning. Excellent customer service. When the lifts close at 4PM, the hot tub area turns into a party tub & it does get pretty crowded and loud, at one point we counted 18 people in there all at once. They have a ping pong table & a heated pool as well. Deducted one star only because the extra fleece blankets and beddings they provided for the sofa bed wasn't clean and had a lot of dog hair & because check out is at 10 AM, a little too early for those who aren't morning people. If I could give this place zero stars I would. We stayed in unit 103. All I can say is RUN RUN RUN from this Place. The moment we step foot in this unit, there was an awful smell, the slider door was broken, it was dirty, there was hair in the corners of the bathroom floor, the shower heads looked like they never were cleaned. The hot water runs out after a very short shower. We tried airing out the condo in 30° weather, which didn't get rid of the smell. They did come fix the slider door. There is no attention to cleanliness in this unit. We brought this to the attention of the property manager and they offered us a refund of the 3 nights we did not stay. They also offered us another unit, so we looked at it, total ghetto apartment neighborhood! Neighbors above were yelling. So we took them up on their offer of a refund of the 3 nights we did not stay. Long story short they only gave us 2 nights refund even though they Said we would get 3 night refund. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. It was dirty and the property manager lied to us. This was our 1st time visiting mammoth & it was a horrible experience. We ended up driving 6 hours back home since there was nothing else available to stay the night. In total, 12 hours of driving to stay 1 night. We stayed for 3 nights- pros: pricing. They're good with their rates being so close to the mountain and peak season. Walking distance to the village. But the cons out weigh the pros. Floors are always freezing since they haven't upgraded to carpet. And there are spiders everywhere! Got bit so many times. Yuck. read more

Booked on Expedia about 3 months in advance. Due to some "technical" issues, Expedia directed me to call the location directly. I spoke with a rep, who said my American Express wasn't going through and if I had another form of payment. Didn't have much reason to think much about it at the time. Provided my debit card and the 1st night deposit went through just fine. Fast forward to check-in and tried paying with the Amex and they didn't even bother running the card because, apparently, they no longer take Amex. I guess they've had issues with Amex cards. This would have been useful information either from the rep I had spoken with or somewhere on their's or Expedia's websites. I had already collected funds from the people we were sharing our unit with and paid it on to my Amex. I had just used the same Amex card the previous year. This was our 5th booking here and although we still had a great time, I do have to knock a couple stars for the serious lack of information. read more

For the price we paid, we expected better. The Jacuzzi jets did not operate during our 4 day stay and management knows about it. The utensils in the studio condo (#103) were subpar. The one large frying pan is in such bad shape (scratched and severely warped) that you could not cook in it. There is only one spatula, so forget cooking anything substantial like two items at once. There are only three (3) large forks (and a few small ones) and there were FOUR (4) of us staying in the unit. Some of the dishes were dirty upon arrival (egg and other food stuck on plates). The patio BBQ is large, but very cheap and in very bad shape - difficult to cook on. Otherwise the unit was clean and decorated nicely - probably one of the better decorated ones. The GAS stove was a plus! Two big issues with the studio units is a lack of cooking vent fan (cooking triggers the smoke alarms every time so you have to leave the front and patio doors open for a draft) and no dishwasher. Therefore, studio units are not a good choice for people who want to actually cook in their unit. Overall a few things need repair like the patio door, the patio door blinds and the bedroom blinds. Disaster weekend! - Prices are high - Location sucks! Yes, you can say it's walking distance to the village, BUT it's a 20min walk, downhill to the village, uphill back. Roads were icy, and my friends all fell on the walk down. - only 1 roll of tp in each one of the bathroom, are you f* shitting me? 3 rolls of tp for 10 ppl condo for 2 days? being able to wipe one's ass is high on my list of requirements for a condo!!!! - No paper towel in the kitchen!! I've stayed at no less than 10 different condo complexes in the Mammoth lakes area, and this is the ONLY one that does not provide paper towel. - Hot tube is super far, AND you have to walk on the main road to get to it! We were freezing our butts off walking in our sandals, getting frost bites on our feet and legs! - wifi is super slow, it took 1 min to just load gmail. - bunk beds are super low, no head room for bottom bunk, my frd got a serious lump on her head... it's like sleeping in a coffin. - units are old and needs some remodeling, carpet is at least 10yrs old, gross and smelly. - they also don't clean and shovel snow off the walkways or parking lots, I wouldn't be surprised if a guest sues then for breaking some body part! Mammoth Estates was a great place for our short notice trip to Mammoth. First off, we booked just days prior to arrival since the forecast was for nothing but snow. Because no two bedrooms were available, they were willing to rent us a three bedroom unit for the going rate of a two bedroom. The location is great. Just a couple of blocks from the main village and gondola to the mountain and right on the shuttle line. So no need for a rental car, everything was easily accessible. And though the property is older it was very comfortable, especially separate thermostats for every room allowing each person to set the right temperature. As good as the location is and as comfortable the unit was, by far the best feature is the staff that run the place. If I were to say they are extremely helpful and genuinely friendly I might just be short changing them. The restaurant suggestions and local know how aside, what really blew me away was their willingness to help out once our flights were canceled and the need arose to come up with alternate accommodations and transportation. All in all, it felt like we were staying with good friends, not just renting a random room. read more

I can only speak of unit 211. As a group we have stayed at the village and picked this place because it was about $1000 cheaper. We knew we would give up a little on location for the price. The location was ok. Easily within walking distance to the Village. Mind you though it was not snowing during our trip. Snowing and freezing at 1am on the walk up the hill would probably be a different story. The unit we had was not updated except for the kitchen. The rest of the unit looks as if it hasn't been touched since the early 80's. I posted photos of the unit. If you are a group of 20 year olds looking to save money this is your unit. We stayed in unit 102 in early February and had a great time. The unit was clean, had all the kitchen utensils you would need during your stay, and the heaters work great. The unit has a nice little deck with a great bbq, and is near the Parking area and the Blue Line shuttle to Canyon Lodge is directly across the street, Beverly short walk!! The village is an easy walk as well. You can take the shuttle or gondola to Canyon Lodge. Highly recommend this unit for 2-4 people. read more

We had a wonderful relaxing stay here. Stayed in #208-beautiful end unit with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed and even had a big window looking out to the front. The deck out back is private and held tons of extra firewood. It was a short walk to the pool , huge jacuzzi and clubhouse. The clubhouse had ping pong and billiard pool! Super fun. And if you still want more relaxing the hot sauna is wonderful. We walked down to the village for a free outdoor concert and had a short romantic stroll home. Such a convenient location. Thanks again ! It was fun! We'll be back when it snows!! read more

I brought my family of 6 to Mammoth Estates for Labor Day weekend. Our check in was quick and easy, our condo was clean and stocked with toiletries, towels and a kitchen full of cups, dishes and working appliances. Unit 132 gave us a view of the pool, one master bedroom, 1 1/2 bathrooms, big kitchen, living room and a large bedroom with four bunk beds. It was perfect for my family. After getting checked in, we hit the pool, jacuzzi and spa for a while before getting a great recommendation (and more clean towels) from Julie at the front desk for Happy Hour in the village. Just a five minute walk from the village, we were able to drift back and forth from Mammoth Estates to all the activities happening over the weekend. We rarely used our car and were happy to trek around the city. We will come back to Mammoth Estates as soon as we can. It really felt like our home away from home. read more

Condo 137 2 bed, 2 bath was great because it had the best location in the complex , near the rec center, sauna, jacuzzi, pool , and laundry. Also this unit came with a season locker at Canyon lodge !! Awesome , no gear hassles, just walked to village gondola 2 blocks away and geared up in the season locker area. This review is so long overdue. We stayed hear twice but this review is for our stay 4 years ago. A group of friends rented a condo to celebrate my husband's 40th Bday. We had a blast. Made use of the pool, BBQ, spa - it was a great time. However, on our 2nd or 3rd day there was a plumbing problem. We left for the day and when we came back the downstairs was basically flooded with water and maybe sewage - it smelled. It spread from bathroom down the hall and part way into some rooms - wet carpet. It took a bit for a plumber to come out and the A-hole plumber was actually accusatory - saying we clogged the pipes with wipes and other things we shall not mention. (Side note, we saw same plumber out at a bar w/ the owner's much older daughter - they were obviously a couple. Biased, you think?) Anyway, they fixed the problem, cleaned up the mess and put in dryers to dry the carpet. They gave us the option of moving but we only had 1 day left and decided to stay. The maid told us that that condo always has plumbing problems - so much for the plumbers accusations. After some long negotiation with the manager (very old man) he agreed to give us a full refund! I feel they totally made it right and would 100 % go back and recommend this place others based on the managements customer service. Thank you! read more

I had a shockingly bad experience dealing with the property managers today. They called to tell me that they had booked the property for which I had reserved on Orbitz twelve hours earlier with my credit card. Due to the snow and holiday weekend, rooms were booking up fast. The first person I spoke to showed no sympathy, no "I'm sorry for the inconvenience." Instead, when I questioned how a double-booking happened, they blamed Orbitz and said they never confirmed the booking with me (of course, Orbitz did). When I pointed out that they are responsible for their third party administrators, not me, the manager told me "I don't have time for this. Do you want the other room or not?" The other room was the same price and clearly not as nice, and not the one I booked. Bottom line, you can't trust the property managers to operate ethically or respectfully, so how can you trust their properties? If they can't take responsibility for double-booking, how can you trust their photos or other promised amenities? I suppose the demand created by the big snowfall made them think that a customer is expendable and that I'll just take whatever they give me. I did not and have booked elsewhere. Asked to speak with the manager but was never available. Charged my card without my authorization. Had to end up calling the police to help solve the issue. We rented a 2 bedroom unit that also had a sofa sleeper. We were able to get 7 people in one unit comfortably. The staff was super friendly and accommodating our entire stay. They had towels but we need more so we just had to stop over at the front desk and pick them up. The unit is fully furnished and has a wood burning stove / heater in the living room which I am sure would come in handy in the winter months. We visited in July. There is no AC but the outside temps were never blistering hot. One room had a fan in the closet so we used that in the living room to help circulate the air at night. They could use a fan in each room. The kitchen of our unit was well stocked. The fridge, microwave, stove, coffee maker and dishwasher were all in good working condition. There were plenty of plates, glasses, mugs and cooking pans to cook and eat almost anything you want. It was very close walking distance to the shopping center down the road, but s short car drive to Vons in town is a better value. We also tried out the pool and hot tub and both were well maintained. Overall a nice place to stay. Basic furnishings, so if you are looking for something FANCY, this is not it. But if you are looking for a good value with well maintained comfortable accommodations this place sure fits the bill! read more

Musty, dirty, dusty, stained, spider-infested, cobweb-covered condos. We have stayed there twice, in two different condos and both condos were in the same unkept condition. We make several trips to Mammoth each year to ski and needless to say, we've stayed at a lot of places and Mammoth Estates is by far the worst. My husband was showering and I was packing when we get a knock at the door saying that we need to hurry up because the handy man was going to do some repairs. What! The handy man was outside the door wanting to come inside while we were in there- awkward and rude. The lady who managers couldn't even have the decency to notify us ahead of time of the repair man. So I had to hurry up my husband so we can check- out while the lady and handyman wait outside the door. Worst experience of my life at a resort. Will never stay here again. read more

How can you not love Mammoth Estates?? It's a home away from home. The people that run it are amazing and willing to do anything to make your stay a good one. The only downside is that occasionally it's really packed and you can't escape people. We come up all the time and have NEVER had a bad experience. We have stayed in a single and a two bedroom and each time it's been great. The only downside is that not all of the rooms are equipped with enough cooking pots, etc. Anyway this is where I will ALWAYS stay when I come to Mammoth, enough said. read more

I am shocked at how rude the management was. I spoke with an employee who originally stated a two night minimum then when I went to book the room she notified me it was actually a three night minimum because there was a big event on the weekend we plan on visiting so they changed the minimum. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was stunned at how incredibly rude they were. I will stay anywhere else in Mammoth but Mammoth Estates, when you treat your customers like that when booking how are they treated when they actually arrive! The one star is for Mr. Thompson who, unfortunately for him, was thrown under the bus for our experienced snafu with this so-called rental resort. Here are the facts: over a month in advance, a particular room was reserved after it was viewed on the website. Check-in was smooth in process courtesy of Mr. Thompson though the keys to the room reserved (and phone call confirmed 24 hours prior to arrival from SoCal) resulted in an intrusion into a unit with TV blaring, shoes and towels strewn and clearly occupied for more than a few hours. Shortly thereafter it was discovered that it was the owner's son, with some friends, who usurped the reservation. At this point it was Julie at the front desk who took over, gave us keys to another room and considered the matter closed. But it wasn't. The alternative abode had clearly not been occupied for weeks (if not months) as we were greeted with a place having decor more apropos for a haunted house than a ski lodge. Cobwebs strewn across the antler chandelier, upstairs sunlight and a crooked broken clock greeted us along with a musty ambience that would have precipitated any asthmatic's attack. Are you wondering what Julie's response was? When called by the original client, her attitude was, "You're lucky to be getting any unit this Holiday Weekend because WE DON'T GUARANTEE OUR ROOMS." So, if you're thinking of shredding some powder up in Mammoth anytime soon, contact a friend who knows someone with a pad, fork over more dough for a GUARANTEED ROOM, or simply build yourself an igloo outside the lifts because all of those options will be better than having Julie pull the bait & switch after a 6 hours car ride. read more

My friends and I stayed here for the new year holiday. The location is great and we had a great trip, however the management wasn't very friendly. Even though the condo was full of dusty cobwebs and the lighting wasn't great, we were still happy about the cost and location. My only recommendation to the management is to be a little bit friendlier to their customers and not give attitude or jeers when approached. read more

FILTHY! We paid $225 per night for a Studio condo. The only good thing about this place is the location. It is walking distance to the central village and village gondola. But ... Ridiculously expensive for a very small apartment! The entire condo was a time warp back to the 1980's. Old and nasty furniture. Filthy old carpet. Dust everywhere! The balcony was dirty and gross, not cleaned. The cleaners do not dust anything! The inside roof was disgusting with cobwebs and spiderwebs. Dishes, silverware, pots and pans were left dirty. We had to wash everything before we used it. Coffee maker and toaster are ultra low end, I could taste the plastic in my coffee. The mattress was very hard and completely uncomfortable. We slept very little in the two days we were here. If you want to listen to music make sure to bring you old cassette tapes and CD's. The remote controls for the TV's were filthy. The bathroom looks like it was remodeled as it was the only room that didn't have an 80's decor. This entire complex badly needs an update. Definitely not worth the money spent. read more

stayed in unit 215. hot tubs green. smells musty and the carpets smell like old people, strange combination of tribal photos child drawings of titties and paper japanese lanterns as well as bear decor. the bathrooms are a disgusting stained shade of blue and all furniture is from at least the 80's. strange unmatching hot and itching bedding, such as neon underskirts with bear quilts. closet is locked but smells like a dead body is in there. very tight with furniture and interesting broken showers. if your taller than 4"3 the master bathroom shower will not fit you. dishes provided were really strange and mismatched. the ice machine and dishwasher are both broken. dishwasher turns on randomly and is possesed. tvs do not work exept for twighlight and some cable. fell down horrible stairs and almost broke my neck. provides like 1 towel and a tiny shampoo for the whole trip stay away. read more

Mammoth Estates continues to evolve into a first class experience. As usual Julie and Gary Thompson were on top of keeping the guests happy. Evelyn,who works in the office, was efficient and a delight. We had a great unit, fully appointed, clean and pretty. We were right across from the bus stop so we took the free mountain bus line up to the slopes. Mammoth Estates is just a short walk from the village which is nice since we like to get out for an evening of food and drinks. It was a wonderful time. We're going back at the end of February as well as March. Can't wait. read more

We stay in unit 208 whenever we can. End unit in a quiet corner with high vaulted ceilings, comfortable beds, and a kitchen with everything we need. The hot tub is super. It's big and clean, and has a sauna and a full bathroom at the clubhouse with shower, and a laundry. Everything works. The game room has ping pong and a pool table. The whole complex is a short walk to the village gondola, and on the blue bus line to Canyon Lodge. read more

With all my years of experience in writing reviews (both pos and neg) on social media sites like this, this one takes the cake! In fact, I believe they need to revise the 5 star rating "systems" to allow ZERO when the LAW is broken with such unprofessional and rude service (or should I say LACK there of?). I have used Hotels.com successfully for most of my in-country trips in the last couple of years. My primary reason is because they seem to offer more "free cancellation " than the others and since I am older and have some health issues, this is the way I need to go. Several weeks ago I booked a short road trip to see the eastern side of our Sierra Mountains bordering Nevada. I booked all my chosen lodging looking for the "free cancelation" including a 2 night stay at a place in the touristy Mammoth Lake ski area, which was not easy to find since it will be mid-October and may be snow up there by then. After a LOT of checking, I finally found a place called "Mammoth Estates" on the Hotels.com site that clearly states "FREE CANCELATION" and even the small print on my reservation states NOTHING WILL BE CHARGED until October 4, 2017 at which time one night's stay will be charged to the card. I could live with this, as it gave me plenty of time to know for sure I will be able to to do this trip. Fast forward to last week when I saw my VISA statement and noted that $155 (first night's cost) had ALREADY BEEN CHARGED TO MY CARD WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE OR APPROVAL - SAY WHAT?!!!!!!!!!! I immediately contacted the property itself thinking Hotels.com is not the cause of this and I needed to clear up the misunderstanding myself directly with the property that mischarged my card - NOT! Boy was I stunned (and eventually ANGERED) when I got a reply from the "night clerk" on duty that he was sorry, but that IS their "policy" and I had NO options. Well it was late at night and I was not in any mood for this BS, so I answered him assertively and told him that they had broken the consumer protection laws here Cali where I live and also FEDERAL law (I believe). I asked to be put in contact with the owner/manager of the property and got NO REPLY whatsoever! SAY WHAT, TAKE TWO! I then went to Hotels.com and filed a formal complaint, which was a waste of time. This is another future review in and of itself, but not here. After significant efforts to get in contact with the owner of this business, which I have learned operates like the controversial "airbnb" based here in San Francisco (see my sharp reviews on my dealings with them in Iceland two years ago!), the owner (MS. JULIE THOMSON) sent me a short blunt e-mail stating that their policy is as I was told and I can go elsewhere if I like! This really got my dander up, so I gave her a more aggressive reply pointing out that they have violated consumer law, as my WRITTEN reservation from Hotels.com clearly indicates I would not be charged until October 4, 2017 - I even provided her a copy of it. She did not reply, blowing me off AGAIN! After a couple of days I got a short pert e-mail stating that she went ahead and canceled my reservation and processed a refund to my card even though I had clearly told them I did not want to do because of the time and hassle to find another place to stay for those 2 nights. She even acted like she was doing me some sort of favor! She contacted both Hotels.com and Expedia (they are connected like most US conglomerates these days) who in-turn sent CONFLICTING messages on this matter - One stated that Mammoth Estates "were unable to honor my reservation", but they will honor the original price I had with another place that THEY WILL FIND IF I cancel the Hotels,com reservation myself - sounds like some sort of legal BS to me! The other stated the same thing, but indicated that I can leave the reservation in place IF I now agree to their up-front $155 charge - SAY WHAT #3!!!!!!! What kind of business in the hospitality industry thinks they can get away with this sort of blatant unprofessional way of operating! I am old and experienced enough to know that this "age of virtual business" is full of flaky untrained and unprofessional armatures who do not know (or care about) the law and treating potential customers in a way that EARNs their ongoing support and business. This is why I feel the duty and need to use this social media vehicle as a way not only of venting, but of getting the word out and hitting them where it will eventually get their attention - THEIR POCKET BOOKS! BTW- I just checked the Hotels.com listing for Mammoth Estates and NOTHING HAS CHANGED - it still states NO UP FRONT CHARGEs! read more

Just returned from a great trip to mammoth. My husband and I really enjoyed our well appointed condo at Mammoth Estates. The management team at Mammoth Estates were very helpful and knowledgeable of the area. At their suggestion we took a hike to Crystal lake. That hike had spectacular views of the area all along the trail. Coming back to the condo and relaxing in the complex jacuzzi was the perfect way to end our day. Unit #212 is TOTALLY SWEET! The front door is just 100 feet from the bus stop, a convenient 5 minute ride from Canyon Lodge. The unit is just a 5 minute walk from town, a block and a half from the Westin Hotel. Newly renovated with gas fireplace, big stylish sofas, skylights, brand new kitchen, Apple TV, 4K TV's in every room (except the kids' double bunkbed room which only has HD), and high speed internet. The kids' double bunkbeds have stairs instead of a ladder, which is cool. This is definitely NOT one of those 70's units with the worn plaid furniture and ancient shag rugs! Every unit in Mammoth Estates has a different owner, so make sure you get a recently remodeled one. They offer lots of clean bedding and fresh towels on demand. With four bedrooms and three full bathrooms, Unit #212 fits our family and our cousins perfectly. Our kids love the swimming pool, hot tub, sauna, ping pong, pool table, and vintage Simpsons pinball machine. We are definitely getting this unit again next time! read more
