This was our first ski trip to Mammoth and our second day on the mountain. We drove from our hotel, since it would be easier to manage our ski gear, and because someone told us that there is free parking. We arrived early and ate our free hotel take-away breakfast in the car. The buildings at Eagle Lodge are large tents, the kind that were at LAX during construction. But inside, there is a cafe/restaurant, a few non-crowed restrooms, another tent had ski rentals and a ski instruction school. The beginner lift has a long ride to the top but the ski trip down is also long and gentle. We like Eagle because it's less crowded than Canyon, and the beginner run was long and fun! read more

While there I had question on another pair of skis I bought a year ago at a ski show that was sold to me with the expectation a wider and longer ski would improve my skiing balance and control ability. I was not happy with them and felt they were too much of a jump from my current ski, actually regressed my ability and was about to give up on skiing. Martin took the time to understand my ability, and explained the differences between my narrow and wider skis. He offered a demo of my new wider ski at a different length and what a difference! It's certainly not the most impressive of the lodges around Mammoth, but it does the job. I really appreciated staying near Eagle Lodge because there are some good green runs for beginner skiers at this lift! It is also not super crowded which is nice. Holiday into Pumpkin run (both green) is a super scenic, pretty low key long run to really be able to enjoy the view and a stress free ski. And the views on a clear day are spectacular! Eagle Lodge's rentals and ski valet (for multi-day rentals) is super convenient. The folks at the rental spot are friendly and very helpful. I got boots put on for me with some great tips to prevent shin pain and they were actually comfortable all day! Getting our prepaid lift passes was easy at automated kiosks as well. The food and drink options at this lodge are kind of iffy, nothing special. Some grab and go sandwiches/salads, and a chicken sandwich spot. It's not the place to be if you're looking for good apres ski and vibes. But again, convenient for where we stayed - Juniper Springs - and had what we needed! read more

Shout out to Danny who instructed our 10 year old on his first snowboarding lesson. He had a great attitude when we first met him, so I instantly knew my son would be in good hands. The feedback I got from him was that Danny was very patient, informative and attentive. He had so much fun that we wanted to go back and ask for him again, but go on the big mountain with him this time. The lesson was a good 5 hour with lunch included. It's perfect for littles who are just learning and if you want to free up your on the mountain without worry about your kids. Danny even took a great pic of my son with Woolly, which I still plan to get from him. Lol! Overall, the experience for lessons here were wonderful! I highly recommend it! read more

The instructors were really nice that they let our kids use them after the lesson but it's not encouraged. The beginning run off of chair 15 is 1.5 miles long and not good for BEGINNER skiers. They need to have a bunny slope with a small lift that kids can use. read more

YOU CAN NOT REFUSE SERVICE FOR A SERVICE DOG. AND U CAN NOT ASK WHAT SOMEONES DISABILITY IS. Unfortunately you'll be hearing from my representation about This DISCRIMINATION. According to the ADA, employees at a business "are not allowed to request any documentation" for a service dog. When returning to use the restroom SANS DOG the employee started making remarks to me even WITHOUT my dog. THIS IS DISCRIMINATION AND UNLAWFUL. Please train your employees. Beginning on March 15, 2011, only dogs are recognized as service animals under titles II and III of the ADA. A service animal is a dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability. Generally, title II and title III entities must permit service animals to accompany people with disabilities in all areas where members of the public are allowed to go. Remember when this was "wooleys ski school"? It was very cute & fun for the kids. Now there's nothing about Woolley...instead there's a distinct Pride flag on the 3-4 year olds bunny hill. It's not LGBTQ+ week or month, it's February 25th. Parents are purchasing these lessons for their kids to learn to ski...it's inappropriate to have a Pride flag in the kids ski school area...especially when there are no other flags elsewhere on the mountain. read more

Since my fiancé and I stayed at the Juniper Springs Resort, the Eagle Lodge was our go to lodge. We came here to get our rentals and lift tickets. Since we were excited to hit slopes on the first day and arrived earlier than expected, we got free lift tickets for our first day with our Alaska Airlines boarding passes. The staff was very helpful making sure our boots fit comfortably. Signing up for a snowboard lesson was quick and easy. This lodge is not as busy as Canyon and Main, which is why I liked it the most. The bathrooms are clean and there is hydration station. There is also Talon Restaurant and Bar if you need lunch or a drink. It's a great starting point to get to the other chair lifts and trails. read more

The lift was accessible and convenient from the Eagle Lodge. After getting down the mountain, it was nice to have seating areas inside to rest. It was pretty full inside and outside and it wasn't a busy day up in the slopes. I can just imagine if it was busy. They had a bar inside and a small store for souvenirs. A good rest stop right after the mountain, but not an ideal place to stay for a long time. They did offer free water, which was a big bonus for us. They had bathrooms that weren't too shabby. read more

I was racially discriminated at eagle lodge rental & demo shop during Christmas. I was reached by one of their employee who yanked out the equipment out of my hand when I was placing the equipment to return it just like all the white folks are doing infront of me. I was with my kids at the time and I felt racial discrimination toward myself and my family. Manager named Joey came and did absolutely nothing after looking at the whole situation and made gestures towards my family to get out of his face. I was shocked and took my kids out of there and went back in to make a formal complaint but 2 employees and the Manager named Joey was just gone. I take my family to mammoth every year. This was my first experience being discriminated due to my race. My family and I are Korean and Japanese and they need to train their employees better to treat everyone equally. I don't think I am going to mammoth this year and will tell my friends and acquaintances. Very sad and disturbing situation. read more

This was our first time using Eagle Lodge. The review is for the staff at the lodge and ski instructor. I ordered and paid the kids ski lesson package and my rental ski online, so checkout was easy. I was so surprised that there was no line. Usually at Main lodge, renting ski takes for a long time. The staff at the fitting are all nice. My son got high altitude sickness the day of the lesson, so in the morning I rescheduled the all day lesson to a half day lesson at the counter. The staff(young girl) was very accommodating. We came back for afternoon lesson, but my son was having a hard time with the sickness. The instructor took him to the break room and gave me a message to pick him up. When I picked him up, he explained the situation and the voucher for the lesson was already made. I didn't expect the voucher, but the instructor wants us to come back for another lesson, he was so nice! We definitely will come back to the lodge and try another lesson! read more

Just go on line, sign up for a Mammoth My Card and load up your account with lift tickets, rentals, ski school lessons. Not a brag but a comparison - I've skied at many resorts around the country and the world and this place doesn't come close. The rental services are adequate but extremely expensive especially with so many options in town at half the price and less with far better equipment. If you come in early for breakfast or an early lunch to beat the rush, prepare to be disappointed. The menu is extremely limited, not at all what you'd expect at a "world class" ski resort. Seating is lacking, most of the seating area taken up by a mediocre, overpriced sit down restaurant. You'd think people who run this place might have been to other resorts and see what skiers want but they clearly have no clue. read more

Eagle Lodge feels like the gem people don't want to share. The only reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars is b/c the food at the lodge was super expensive and not very good. This could have been b/c they are following the COVID regulations so I wouldn't put too much thought into it. Everyone was so friendly, super helpful, easy to speak with, and really knowledgeable when you had a question about anything Mammoth related. The team did a great job enforcing masks and no eating indoors. However, they took a good deal of attitude from some who didn't want to follow the rules. I give the Mammoth team a great deal of credit, it's hard work keeping calm when dealing with entitled people who could be the reason the mountain closes again due to COVID. read more

While visiting Mammoth for the holidays we decided it was time to put my 8 year old granddaughter in a ski lesson. Wow what a disappointment! Not only is it outrageously expensive but very unorganized. It amounted to 2 hours of the worse babysitting at 114.00 an hour. Kids are standing around most of the time wishing they weren't there. When my son learned at age 5, 34 years ago he couldn't wait to do it again. We will probably never get my granddaughter back on the slopes. If your counting on future customers to enjoy your mountain you should realize the importance of kids first experience. read more

This place is a mess!! The reservation line has one person. We waited 1+ hrs and then the ski part took another 45 minutes. I told manager we came at 8 and he kept saying you checked in at 9:20. He was so arrogant and unprofessional. He refused to accept that we had waited in line since 8:10 AM to be exact and actually were able to check in at 9:20! The line with reservations had one person working while those without had several. And those with reservation could not be helped by anyone else. What's the point of reservations? An absolute mess. So after all this, after 1+ hrs of waiting and being checked in you have to wait in line AGAIN for gear. This time the guy working is telling me I have to get the kids' sizes. This would not have been an issue if my friend who had the exact same reservations as me was told to move forward and go to ski school. Except I was told to get the kids' shoes outside. So I kept trying to fathom the concept, carry my 7 and 5 year old boys out in the snow because they have no shoes on??? And the guy kept saying you needed to have made a reservation and stand in line. This place is utterly disorganized. I later returned to actually grab my kids' boots and the manager and another employee were talking about me and laughing. I am so disappointed. I have been to Mammoth Lakes every year for the past 18 years and never have I encountered such unprofessionalism. As a true Yelper, I should have read reviews and would have known what a disaster of a location this is. There are other lodges, your best bet is to go there. So absolutely unprofessional I will never return here again. read more

I'm a big baby about exercise in general and about skiing in particular. I've been coming to Mammoth with my family since I was a child, but until last year, I hadn't actually gone skiing or snowboarding in almost a decade. Staying inside reading just always appealed to me more than putting on bulky clothes and horrible boots to wait in line after line to tumble gracelessly down a mountain. I had fun when my husband forced me to ski with him last year, but I was still kind of dreading going again on this year's trip and came pretty close to bailing when the time came to go buy our tickets. But thanks to Eagle Lodge, I had an absolute blast on this ski trip. I went out three days in a row--a real feat for me, one at which my entire family voiced their surprise. For as long as I can remember, I've been getting beginner tickets at Canyon Lodge, riding chairs 7 and 17 over and over and over again. (As I forget all improvement between trips, I never ever get better at skiing.) This meant that skiing was not only a pain in the ass, but also pretty repetitive. 7 is almost a nothing run, and 17 gets old kind of quick. We did Canyon Lodge our first day this trip, but on day two, decided to check out Eagle, which was closer to where we were staying and seemed to offer more options for beginner tickets. This was a game changer. Though Eagle Lodge only has one chair lift, it goes up much higher than 17 and offers at least a dozen different trails down. It's also easy to cross from Eagle to Canyon via a mild intermediate run. We tried out a good handful of the available runs, but didn't even touch the many harder intermediate trails. The greens were great (I think Pumpkin and Sleepy Hollow) and I enjoyed a few of the blues (Bridges, Manzanita, and Back For More). The only one that fucked me up was the Christmas Tree trail, which we accidentally took two different times. That's the steep one you see as you pass over on the lift. It's always speckled with inexperienced skiers scared and stuck in the snow. I ate shit three times on this slope, once landing hard on my back and head, losing a ski, and hitting myself in the goggles with a pole. We decided the blue black trails were not for us, but it's kind of cool that they're available on the beginner ticket. Just much better value for that cheaper pass on this part of the mountain. We skied at Eagle on 12/26 and 12/27, and both days were busy, but we never had to wait very long at the lift. Much less crowded than Canyon and Main Lodge, from what I understand. The one lift seated six people at a time and the line moved quickly. The slopes were reasonably open. Definitely had to weave around a bit, but there were many times when I found myself alone on a long stretch of snow. The rest tent and outdoor seating area got more obviously crowded. We didn't eat there, but we did have a drink at the bar, which was quite pleasant. I liked the Mammoth Paranoids Pale Ale, and it really hit the spot. The bartenders were friendly, too. Until I get good enough to upgrade to a regular adult ticket (never), Eagle Lodge seems to be my best option for a fulfilling ski trip. I'm actually excited to go to Mammoth again and spend large portions of my vacation in vigorous exercise. read more

This quaint tent facility is at the bottom of Chair 15 at Mammoth Mountain. The location had long been one of the best kept secrets for starting your day at Mammoth. However with the new improvements (it used to be a ticket booth with 3-4 windows and the chair lift only), this has turned into a fairly nice facility. For those who like to ski/board at chairs 9, 15, 25, etc... this is an ideal place to start your day. I love a lot of these long groomed runs and some of the open bowls up top when there has been a little bit of powder. The new facilities added a few years ago add in ski/snowboard rentals, interior ticket purchasing, a bar, interior and exterior tables for breakfast/lunch/dinner, a food purchasing area, and a small shop for the odds n ends that you may have lost or need. I like that this facility isnt nearly as crowded as Canyon Lodge (warming hut II for the other old school people), Main Lodge, or any of the other newer locations like "Mill Cafe" or the "burrito cat" (chair 4). They saved my ski school experience at this lodge. Should also mention, that after Ben noticed my boots (that I own) were not fitting properly, I rented some the next 2 days and the gal at the rental counter was very helpful and knowledgeable. We ended up buying the newer version of my rental today! This location has a lot of kids and beginners, so it is important for everyone to ski safe and look out for others . The loading zone is very convenient and all the bus lines stop there, making it very convenient. On the week after President's weekend, it slowed down and parking was a breeze at all times of the day. The website did not offer the information that there ARE small day lockers/baskets and overnight ski (not boot) storage options. I believe these are only available at HIGH season/traffic times. HUGE issue for me. It wasn't until I had to rent the boots (on my 8th day) did I see them in the ski rental tent. I was stuffing my pockets for days with all I needed instead of conveniently having the day locker for personals :o( The lift go quickly, a huge plus! The line operators appear to be in the age range of 16-21. Most are friendly enough...but the inability to control the line traffic appropriately is RIDICULOUS. ie: allowing people to stop in the lines to wait for others, adjust gear, check emails on their phone, etc. This ruined my 11 day vacation. Someone allowed a woman, IN SHOES, to enter the lift line to exchange belongings with a family member. She stepped on my husband's ski, causing him and 4 others to tumble over. She never stepped OFF his ski, so when he fell, he tore his ACL. He is an Extreme skier from Canada, not a novice, and the poor guy didn't even get injured in an adrenaline rush or with a good story to share with friends! He has been on the couch in the condo with ice on it for 8 of our 11 day stay! To boot...it's his right knee, making ME the designated driver for our 7 hour trip home with a 2 year old and a dog in the car! AWESOME! When "Brittany" the line operator, with the trendy white Risky Business sunglasses, stops hugging all the guys that also work the lines and does her job.....skiers will be safer! read more

Little Eagle Lodge isn't really a lodge compared to Main or Canyon Lodge. It's really a tent that houses a smaller cafeteria, ticket office, rental store, and ticket office. Despite being small, it's probably the best place to get on the mountain since the lines are usually shorter than Main or Canyon Lodge. It's also on the green bus line that seems to be the main bus line to most cabins in Mammoth. Quick tip, if you are not a season pass holder like myself and need to purchase a lift ticket, you should purchase your lift ticket at the hotel where the buses drop you off. Just go to the lobby and you can purchase your lift ticket there to avoid the wait at Eagle Lodge. read more

Even though it is beginner runs, you can access the best trails through Eagle, which is Chair 9. This lift can gain you access to Cloud 9 and the back of Mammoth Mountains. Although it's mostly blue and black trails, it is worth it! Less people and practrically no wait on the lifts. read more

This review is specifically regarding the ski school at Eagle Lodge. It's a total train wreck. I have three kids all doing the afternoon ski school session which goes from 1:00-3:15pm. I stood and watched from 1:00-2:00 and really couldn't believe what I was seeing. Completely unorganized. Very little supervision. Zero learning. It's hard to adequately describe how terrible it was to watch. The "teachers" didn't even notice when kids fell over. At one point there were three kids on the ground all tangled up at the bottom of the ramp that brings them up the hill and not one instructor noticed. Not even the person in charge of the ramp noticed. Not less than half a dozen times did I see parents, who were hanging out on the sidelines watching, step in to help kids who had fallen or were stuck. 30 minutes after the lesson had begun my daughter had gone up and down the hill one time. When she got to the bottom I could tell she was upset and when I went over and asked her what was wrong she said she didn't know who her teacher was. She didn't know what she was supposed to be doing or who was in charge of her. Basically because there was no one in charge. Everything about our experience today was terrible. $600+ dollars later and I'm left with three kids who "never want to ski again". And previous to this they have LOVED skiing. UPDATE: My husband went back the next day and received a voucher that covered the cost of the ski lessons. He said they were very accommodating and apologetic. read more

Of the 3 lodges at Mammoth, Eagle is probably the crappiest one. However, it does have one of the better parking situations, and there is lots of parking on the road if the parking is full. For amenities though, head to Canyon or Main Lodge. I will say that if you are a beginner, there are a lot of good runs right off of the Eagle lift so this would be a good place to start. read more
