Rock creek lake, first of the day!!

Wonderful place, going since 2018, twice a year. June with the family and September only with my husband. If you are looking for a quite place... This is the one!! Stayed in 3 different cabins and with the necessary utensils for the kitchen. Love the sunrise and the sound of the creek. Really nice staff, starting with Jan, Brandon and Luca. We already have reservations for this June.

I don't know how anyone had any problems with this beautiful vacation destination our trip was absolutely amazing! These negative reviews are shocking and a total opposite of my experience! I wish I could give MORE stars. We stayed in Cabin 15 and the rest of the family stayed in Cabins 9 and 21. Each cabin had Clean linen and towels and the entire Cabins were clean. Cabins were stocked with the essentials like kitchen ware, toilet paper, extra blankets, a ton of firewood for the wood stove heaters (which was adorable and functional for the chilly nights), cute dining tables, coffee makers, fridge, full bathrooms. Everything you could need right down to super cute handmade aprons you'll fall in love with you can purchase at the general store on site even a community breakfast dining room if you don't want to cook breakfast on your own. The cabins are right on the creek bank so if you have your windows open you hear the rushing water which was so relaxing! At night you can see a million stars it's so beautiful and the smell of all the pine trees is refreshing. Did I say how adorable the cabins are yet? The staff is absolutely the most accommodating ever, even after hours they keep a radio out so you can reach them for emergencies (like if you lock yourself out of the cabin at night like I did). I can't believe the negative reviews here about Jan they are totally false, from the first night of the week we enjoyed these cabins Jan and her staff went above and beyond to keep us comfortable. Jan is super kind and has a great sense of humor and I loved chatting with her during our stay. Jan was even kind enough to help me wash our personal blanket after it was soiled from altitude sickness, she was so understanding. Everyone who works here is super friendly and wants to help make this a great experience for the vacationers. The gentlemen who work the little general store have the best sense of humor and the kids loved going in for jokes and ice cream. And the ground staff are fun and friendly and always say hello and ask if you need anything. I HIGHLY recommend this as your next vacation destination, I have zero complaints and a million compliments about the accommodations and staff. I've never felt more at home away from home! If you're wanting to stay in the woods and fish or just relax and get out of the concrete jungle and get more in tune with nature this is the place, you won't be disappointed. Thank you everyone for everything Rock Creek Lodge, we had a blast! Can't wait to come back!!!

I wasn't going to write a review, except damn...they have some bad reviews. Can't speak to their experience, but I was invited by a friend, knew nothing about it, rented x-country skis for $30 from mammoth, and skied about 1-2 miles out to the lodge. There is a snow-mobile option for $10 as well. The lodge was amazing, we were allowed to bring our own booze for a corking fee, the staff was attentive and hard-working. There were five courses to the meal. Every part was well-prepared and delicious. I didn't get sick, I didn't see flies, I didn't return a thing. Seconds were brought out without argument if we wanted more food at all. The experience with a large group of friends was awesome. Highly recommended. 4 stars instead of 5 because of the $75 dinner price tag, and also because my skis sucked and I couldn't slide easily back down the hill to the car. Totally my fault, but I'm taking out my aggression somehow. Great experience. Do it.

    Fresh salad, great dressing!

What a fun experience and great food! We drove over from Mammoth (395 south to Tom's place then up Rock Creek Road to Sno Park) they picked us up with a sled and snowmobile for the last 2 miles up the rode to the lodge. The lodge was nice and warm and comfortable. We had a glass of wine and warmed up by the fire. The dinning area is family style. We had soup and salad and then the main course is served family style. It was all really good and the dessert was amazing! The night would have been perfect if it had not been cloudy so we could have seen the stars which would be amazing up there where it is so dark. This is a Winter only experience.

We also visited Tamarak Sno-Park just five minutes up the road from Balsam, and it was beautiful, but was laid out with trails for cross-country skiers and snowmobilers. You need a $5 pass to park at a Sno-Park, and you must buy it before you get there. Stop at Tom's in town before you head up the hill. We'd never heard of Sno-Parks, and didn't know what to expect. They're just forested areas where you might hike if the weather were warmer where you can safely park and use the restroom if you need to. There are areas for sledding, but they are natural hills will trees and streams and rocks. There are open areas (some are Forest Service roads) (no trucks in sight), but there are lots of little hills, too. In the spring when we were there the best hill we found ended in a stream so we had to jump off our sleds in order not to get wet. We did not snowshoe, but there were lovely less hilly spots where snow shoeing would be fun. Balsam had a few parking spots (maybe space for 8-10 cars?), so it'll fill up fast. Tamarak has a much larger parking lot. Sno-Parks exist, basically, so that people won't park on the side of the road. There is no trash removal, no lights or electricity, and no amenities like picnic tables. It's just a parking lot and a safe (and beautiful) place to play in the snow. We were there in early April, and the snow was spotty, but still we were able to find enough to sled until we were exhausted, build a snowman, and have a snowball fight. We stayed in Shaver Lake, but these Sno-Parks are close enough to Clovis and Fresno, that you could also drive up for the day.

Managing a group of kids with very different skill levels is no small task, but Drew handled it with patience, enthusiasm, and impressive skill. He quickly assessed where each child was at and tailored his guidance so everyone felt challenged while still having fun and building confidence on the mountain. Over the two days, Drew took the kids all over the mountain, helping them explore new terrain while always keeping safety front and center. His clear instructions and practical tips made a noticeable difference in their skiing, and it was great to see their progress even within a short time. Drew has a great way of explaining technique in a way kids understand, which helped them improve without feeling overwhelmed. One of the highlights for the kids was spending time in the ski park, where Drew showed them some fun tricks and helped them try new things safely. He struck the perfect balance between encouraging them to push their limits and making sure they stayed in control and confident. By the end of the lessons, all four kids were excited about how much they had learned and couldn't stop talking about their favorite runs. We're incredibly grateful for the experience and would highly recommend Drew Harris to other families looking for a fantastic ski instructor. His ability to manage multiple levels, keep kids engaged, and make learning fun made these two days on the mountain truly memorable.

For the 2025/2026 season it was the location for good skiing and even more so in the later part. The strangest season I've ever seen. Snow then rain, hot then cold then hot again, but Mammoth came through with some very good skiing if you were there at the right time. Nice upgrades on the Mtn with high capacity lifts and grooming but would like to see better dining options at the Main Lodge. Another thought would be for Alterra to loosen up with lift ticket options and pricing instead of forcing one to purchase the Ikon. All considerations taken Mammoth is still a great ski mountain and I look forward to next season........

We stayed at chalet #9 which was not a ski out, but a very short walk to the main lodge/lifts and definitely a ski in from lower road runner. The chalet itself was cozy with plentiful seating, and even extra foldable chairs for our group. The beds were comfortable, and the bathrooms came equipped with hotel sized toiletries, which was a nice touch. The kitchen is a good size and well equipped with all the necessities, along with a fridge/freezer that was the perfect size to fit all of our weekend groceries. I also appreciated that they even had a huge pot to make group meals like pho, even though I had already brought my own instant pot. I would 110% stay here again and recommend the chalets to all of my family and friends. This was such a wonderful find. Thank you for the awesome stay Mammoth Mountain Chalets! :)

The food is very good. Not spectacular, and not gourmet, by any means, but very good American fare. The service is also very good, and the current owner is an asset to the community in many ways. But it is the ambiance that really makes it special. It dates back to 1917, and looks it. The dining room has a big fireplace and is paneled with knotty pine. There are a lot of doo-dads about which give the place a lot of character. Next to the dining room is a small bar, similarly festooned with a lot of entertaining doo dads. Tom's place is an official watering hole of ECV, and that alone tells you something about the place. They also have a small general store with convenience food and supplies, as well as simple souvenirs like t-shirts and coffee mugs. Have a look there while you are at it. To give you a sense of the place, consider the attached photograph. It is of the stairway to the restrooms downstairs. That doorway is low enough that a tall person might possibly hit their head, hence the admonishment. That's it in a nutshell. This is either your kind of place or not. But it is surely mine!

A short, portly, long blond/ grey hair lady who instantly barked that pets were not allowed in Tom's place. She demanded to see paperwork that would prove that my dog is a service animal, I asked her to wait a minute while I pull it up on email and she would not stop raising her voice and basically yelling at me. I had lost my reading glasses the day before and could not see well, I was trying to pull up the email while she was yelling at me. She said she had reading glasses she could sell me, but I needed to show her the proof that my dog was a service animal before she would let her in the store. My dog was now shivering profusely because it was coldish and windy, she pointed it out and I informed her that my dog is shivering from the cold, and we are just hungry this is a huge waste of time, because she is a legal service animal, but I am now under too much stress and cannot see without my glasses to pull up the digital proof that she demands before we enter. I informed her that this was illegal, and she started berating me, telling me I don't know what the law is. She than started being condescending and asking me if I know what ADA stands for. I told her that I am a RN, and that just made her louder and more unruly. If anyonlie from the state wants to talk, I allow YELP to release my email address to them. I have had my service animal for years, and never a problem. I have actually had her in Tom's place before without a problem. I have no idea why a small restaurant owner would rather cause potential litigation and undue stress upon potential customers and break the law and demand proof of service animal legitimacy than just let people with service animals live their best lives in peace. I did not need this experience and neither did the friend that was with me or my service animal . WHO THE HELL CARES IF SOMEONE HAS A SMALL DOG THAT IS SILENT. Unfortunately for you, she is a service animal. I have paperwork. In this day and age in California, they are letting many crimes go unpunished, as it is now racist to prosecute anything. So to all the small restaurant owners out there that give people undue stress about service animals which are not a crime, just shut your mouth, take our money, and obey the law.
