So ... I just got back from a week of fishing at Rock Creek Lake and Rock Creek... my wife and I always choose this place because it gives us the option to fish the creek if the lake is slow. Cabin #2 is always fun because it's less than a minute from the creek and I always have good fishing experiences there. There's also the pond ... a 5 minute hike from the 1st bridge. The entire Rock Creek staff is always so friendly and welcoming, it's always so much fun so we never leave without making reservations for the following year. My daughter, border collie and I stayed at Rock Creek Lodge this October and loved it. We had a cabin without a bathroom located right along the river. The cabin was super clean and had a wood burning stove that we used a lot as it was COLD. There are so many amazing hiking trails close by so if you like to hike and explore this is a perfect place to call home for a bit. We were there the last week of the season so the restaurant was not open but would to have like to try it. We will be back! read more

Great food, wonderful mountain-lodge style atmosphere, big picture windows, very nice service. We didn't stay here, but did come daily for use of their shower facilities while camping nearby. Luca greeted us every time with a smile even though she is always super busy. I don't know how anyone had any problems with this beautiful vacation destination our trip was absolutely amazing! These negative reviews are shocking and a total opposite of my experience! I wish I could give MORE stars. We stayed in Cabin 15 and the rest of the family stayed in Cabins 9 and 21. Each cabin had Clean linen and towels and the entire Cabins were clean. Cabins were stocked with the essentials like kitchen ware, toilet paper, extra blankets, a ton of firewood for the wood stove heaters (which was adorable and functional for the chilly nights), cute dining tables, coffee makers, fridge, full bathrooms. Everything you could need right down to super cute handmade aprons you'll fall in love with you can purchase at the general store on site even a community breakfast dining room if you don't want to cook breakfast on your own. The cabins are right on the creek bank so if you have your windows open you hear the rushing water which was so relaxing! At night you can see a million stars it's so beautiful and the smell of all the pine trees is refreshing. Did I say how adorable the cabins are yet? The staff is absolutely the most accommodating ever, even after hours they keep a radio out so you can reach them for emergencies (like if you lock yourself out of the cabin at night like I did). I can't believe the negative reviews here about Jan they are totally false, from the first night of the week we enjoyed these cabins Jan and her staff went above and beyond to keep us comfortable. Jan is super kind and has a great sense of humor and I loved chatting with her during our stay. Jan was even kind enough to help me wash our personal blanket after it was soiled from altitude sickness, she was so understanding. Everyone who works here is super friendly and wants to help make this a great experience for the vacationers. The gentlemen who work the little general store have the best sense of humor and the kids loved going in for jokes and ice cream. And the ground staff are fun and friendly and always say hello and ask if you need anything. I HIGHLY recommend this as your next vacation destination, I have zero complaints and a million compliments about the accommodations and staff. I've never felt more at home away from home! If you're wanting to stay in the woods and fish or just relax and get out of the concrete jungle and get more in tune with nature this is the place, you won't be disappointed. We stayed at one of the rustic cabins here for a night recently. Rock Creek Lodge is just across the creek from a campground. The rustic cabins do not have bathroom facilities inside. Those are just a short walk away. The cabin is cozy with a small refrigerator, sink, a few dishes, table and chairs, and beds. At 9,300 ft., its a nice escape from the warmer weather. The creek is very near and loud enough to cover all other sounds. The staff are friendly and familiar with the swarm of hummingbirds that frequent their feeders. They only serve breakfast this summer, but it's a very good breakfast supplemented by hummingbird watching. read more

I wasn't going to write a review, except damn...they have some bad reviews. Can't speak to their experience, but I was invited by a friend, knew nothing about it, rented x-country skis for $30 from mammoth, and skied about 1-2 miles out to the lodge. There is a snow-mobile option for $10 as well. The lodge was amazing, we were allowed to bring our own booze for a corking fee, the staff was attentive and hard-working. There were five courses to the meal. Every part was well-prepared and delicious. I didn't get sick, I didn't see flies, I didn't return a thing. Seconds were brought out without argument if we wanted more food at all. The experience with a large group of friends was awesome. Highly recommended. 4 stars instead of 5 because of the $75 dinner price tag, and also because my skis sucked and I couldn't slide easily back down the hill to the car. Totally my fault, but I'm taking out my aggression somehow. Great experience. Do it. read more

We absolutely loved our 4 nights at Rock Creek. Our cabin was clean and the water was HOT. The location is amazing near the creek and it was close to enough easy trails and open space that our dog had the time of her life. Jan's food is awesome, fresh, yummy and her homemade bread is to die for. It is misleading for it claimed to be in mammoth lakes as it won't show up in GPRS. 5 of us stayed in cabin 3, $285/nite, which claimed it can be occupied for up to 6 people. After 2 of us took hot water shower, no more hot water. Most of us slipped and fell from the steep shallow staircase from the loft. The old refrigerator makes noise. The central heating machine is inside the bedroom, it's so loud that its like you are sleeping with a plane/train. The faux wood fireplace makes the loft hot like hell. I talked to Janice, who has bad attitude: she said she heard the noise of the central heating running during daytime when she was outside cabin 3, I said we don't like to waste energy, without any instructions given we put the heating system to 73 degrees. They asked us to pay but no instructions/assistance for the cabin... No Internet connection. Other than the location, there is no advantage to stay here, we won't go back and warn all of you beware of this lodge. We traveled frequently everywhere and it's our worst experience. read more

We have loved the lodge for years, whether we were camping and stopping in for meals and showers, or staying in one o the cabins. The staff have always been friendly and welcoming and the accommodations charming and lovely. This year however we did not have a positive experience at all. The lodge was quite noticeably understaffed. The store said open all day but the door was always locked, they had a walkie talkie there so you could track them down but it was not functional. The restaurant which we have completely enjoyed in the past, was not open once even though we were told it would be. We had to rely on the RC Resort for any additional needs that we had. It's a shame as this lodge has been a tradition for our family for many years in varying forms, but it's very likely we will not return. PS the 15 per night for a dog staying with was ridiculous since they add no burden to the accommodation. read more

So I planned my fishing trip to rock creek lodge outside bishop and everything goes bad before we even check in... WHAT A DUMP and major health hazard is an understatement. There website even agrees by stating: "Bobby Tanner is making much needed improvements". Okay, are you kidding me. word to the wise...don't eat food at this place or you will spend your trip sitting on the toilet. Upon arrival, I try and check in and the rooms are not ready, "we don't have enough staff" as I see staff riding bicycles playing around. Well with these prices they should be stocked with employees because they sure don't spend any money on safety, upkeep or utensils, the coffee pot does not even work and you need a 4x4 just to drive the grounds. I got lucky to find two forks in the place to cook dinner. I'll take a shower, don't even try, the water just trickles out and takes forever just to get wet and impossible to wash of any lathering soap. rant.... So I go to the office multiple times and finally our shack is ready and I can now unload my truck. Reminder, this place does not follow any health or safety rules or standards, it's non complaint with any disabilities regulations. There are no guide rails or anti slip grip tape or even a floor matt and these people don't care. Needless to say our second day we were walking back from the stream with wet feet and slip and fall entering the shack. It was an emergency slip and fall and we had to leave immediately, so much for my 2014 vacation. Now I'm stuck with literally 1,000's in medical bills and the place is leaving me "crazy threatening messages DAILY" on my phone that I still owe them for "one night stay". Not how's your dog and wife doing in the hospital for your slip and fall. I had friends staying in one of the another cabins and Jan the mgr. found out... So she actually starts calling them and threatening them that I owe money. Isn't that against the law and my privacy. BTW... this place is not even close to mammoth. there are a lot of other places to stay besides this DUMP... they are so so rude and don't care about anything except your money. they will make no accommodations for any reason disabled or not, were in the mountains, not a hospital... geeze.. hope you never get hurt Jan. I need to figure out how to upload rock creeks Voicemails. stay away from this place.. my next step is to contact a personal attorney and now they hang up on me... read more

SUPER EXPERIENCE staying at our cabin at Rock Creek Lodge!! The facilities were clean and well taken care of. Our cabin was perfect for my husband as myself as we have a dog and she was able to stay with us!! The staff, including Jan, the manager, and Brandon, who worked at the store and checked us in, were both very helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend this to anyone, especially if you want to get away from your cell phone (work calls) as there is no cell service!! LOVED OUR STAY !!! read more

A Mammoth Must Do! What a great time. We did the cross country ski up to the lodge and arrived just after dark. A fun work-out carrying 3 bottles of wine in my backpack, but the perfect activity to build up an appetite. We were a group of 8 and had a fabulous time. The food was hearty and had a great homemade appeal. The cheese bread was unforgettable and we enjoyed drinking our wine before dinner by the fireplace. The ski back down was hilarious and the perfect end to a great evening. We will definitely be back with more friends so that they can experience the fun. read more

This was our first time staying here at Rock Creek Lodge. Our family of 6 adults booked cabin #9. Our disappointment was that the website says there are 3 rooms. When we arrived we realized the kitchen is considered a room. So my husband and I had to share a room with my brother and his wife. This cabin has a bedroom with 2 double beds and a bedroom that has 1 double & 1 twin bed. In between the 2 bedrooms is the kitchen that has 6 chairs at a dining table. There is no living room area. The mattresses were not comfortable. Otherwise we did love the cabin!!!! We were so busy during the day and only there for dinner and to sleep and shower. No cell service. Lots of mosquitos. read more

What a fun experience and great food! We drove over from Mammoth (395 south to Tom's place then up Rock Creek Road to Sno Park) they picked us up with a sled and snowmobile for the last 2 miles up the rode to the lodge. The lodge was nice and warm and comfortable. We had a glass of wine and warmed up by the fire. The dinning area is family style. We had soup and salad and then the main course is served family style. It was all really good and the dessert was amazing! The night would have been perfect if it had not been cloudy so we could have seen the stars which would be amazing up there where it is so dark. My brother's and I stayed here for a week at the end of August 2012. We stayed in Cabin 9 and used Rock Creek Lodge as home base while we fulfilled family obligations in the Eastern Sierras along with lots of fishing and hiking. Can't beat having a camp fire every night, great breakfast in the Lodge to start your day, fishing on the creek(nephew) caught his first rainbow trout here. he cabins and facilities and closeness to the creek are all amazing. Branded in the Store was an excellent aide in assisting with check in and question. Jan, the manager, on the other hand was rude, assaulting both a adults and children with foul language and she was lucky not to leave her place of work in handcuffs as she repeatedly poked a customer and when he backed away she stepped up and did it more. Shes rude, crude and socially unacceptable as manager of such a fine establishment. Other Yelp and Trip Advisor comments read a lot like this. We did get to chat with the Owner who was more the willing to help. But when you are paying close $4.400 for lodging in 3 cabins you would expect that she would appreciate the business as many cabins there were empty on July 4 week. She also let her bigoted racist side out by saying " We do not want your kind here" when talking to my Hispanic Son in law, who was born in California. So. We have been coming to the Eastern Sierra Mountains to fish and just plain hang out. My older girls and youngest boy love to fish so we can sleep in the dirt if need be so we can go fishing. My wife and other girls are not so outdoorsy types and just want to hang out and read books and what we consider a whole lot of nothing.....which is great for them, but not so much for us. When I initially phoned during the off season Jan happened to answer, which was nice because she did not have to and I really appreciated it. She was really straight forward and helpful, which some people may think as rude because its their holiday up here that they are reserving, but we are not really the kiss our butt types so I appreciated the short and sweet conversation. On the other hand, when we arrived the person who greeted me was nice, but then I told him our paper work stated we were getting a cabin that was different then the one we ended up with. Not a big deal, but a disappointment. I get it, perhaps people are trying to get more than they pay for and perhaps he had that customer before us. Anyways, we cleared it up and he was nice enough. We usually get in to our cabin early, but the people who were using our cabin before us had not quite cleared out and we had to wait. No big deal as we did not have to wait past the normal check in time and the staff did what they could to make it happen for us as quick a they could. Here are our issues....... We were supposed to have a BBQ at our cabin, but it was attached to our neighbors cabin. I am sure it would not have been an issue for us to use theirs but I did not want to be rude and impose on them, as we are all up here to decompress. I could have used the common BBQ but it was a walk and wasn't really feeling it. Second and main issue.........KNOW YOUR CUSTOMER BASE...........the Hispanic guy that works at the store is rude and condescending to the visitors. My wife asked for the WI-FI password and was met with.............that's only for the people who work here........... How about, I am sorry we are on limited data since we are satellite based internet so we cannot unfortunately provide the passcode for the WI-FI, or perhaps, the WI-FI is only for business transactions and credit card processing and company policy prevents us from providing it for public consumption. Not really a hard concept, why would you be rude to your customer base for no reason? If you do not have good customer service, then do something else for a living. Why be jerk just to be a jerk...? I read all of the Jan slam reviews and found her to be quite easy and reasonable to work with. This other guy.........wow! move on, do something that is not customer service oriented, Make the beds, take out the trash, clean the whatever.....just don't deal with the clients. Based on the facilities and location, this place should be booked out and have a waiting list for years.....................the problem is simply they need better staff to deal with the clients. Really wanted to give a 5 star rating and kept a open mind but just did not happen. I will say that we will be back because of the location and we love the solitude of the setting. I can deal with staff stupidity but if you are not the type to look past stupid crap and it is your first time here.....it will kill the magic that Rock Creek is. Don't let that happen, This place is magic and really deserves a chance to get it right. I wish the owers would vet the customer service people better. I know there are things that have to be done other than dealing face to face with clients. Get people to do just customer service....and nothing more. read more

Our family visits RCL every year the week before the 4th of July and we really enjoy it. We stayed in Cabin 15 this year and it fit us well. We are a family of 5 and the sleeping situation was fine. I think it says sleeps 7 but that is quite a stretch. We really enjoyed having the firepit right outside our door and the creek right next to us. This is a rustic cabin environment, as it should be, so I dont really understand so of the other yelp comments. If your expecting a luxury experience your in the wrong place. If you want to stay in a cabin in the woods and go fishing in a beautiful part of the eastern sierras this is the place. Rock Creek Lake is right up the road and is breathtaking with excellent fishing. The dining room is open for breakfast and it was quite good. Off the dining room is a beautiful lodge room with leather couches and a beautiful fireplace to relax and sneak in a game of cards. There is wi fi here to catch up on some email if needed. Next to the store there is another rustic lodge room with board games and some movies to watch. There was the most awesome collection of vinyl records here but oddly no record player. I think i will be donating one on my next trip. The owner of this lodge is silent and is never on site, he also owns reds meadow I believe. RCL is held together by Jan and her staff , most of which are seasonal. Jan has been there for 20 years or more and does a great job of keeping the place going year after year. Whatever she is paid , it is not enough. She is on it 24/7 and is always checking in to make sure people are doing ok. I can see that some people thinks she has a bad attitude because she seems a little overwhelmed most of the time. She is actually quite nice if you take the time to get to know her. We will be back next year and the years after as I love it here. Yes there are some bugs, your in the wilderness! Super dog friendly a big plus, Cabins at Rock Creek Lake dont allow. I have been coming to Rock Creek for over 20 years. Beautiful place with great cabins . The only MAJOR draw back to this place is the Manager Jan. No matter what you do you can not please this woman. She is very grouchy and just plain mean. After leaving the cabin spotless and taking all our trash to the dumpster, she has the nerve to call me and say we left trash at the cabin next to us! We had nothing to do with whoever was staying at the cabin next door. She tells me she will not book anymore reservations since we dumped our trash at the cabin next door?!?! After 100+ times of making a reservation and numerous referrals to family and friends throughout my lifetime, this is the thanks and customer service you get i guess.... i spent 2hr cleaning the cabin and walking over every single bag of trash to the dumpster , yet she calls and says shes been "disrespected" by us dumping our trash at the next cabin . We were not even staying at that cabin ! I tried calling and explaining but there is no reason with such a cruel woman . I honestly love this place as i have came so many times throughout my life. It kills me to say that i will no longer be going there in the future because of such a mean staff manager. I am truly hurt by the utter disrespect and unfair treatment i have received by the manager. read more

The Anti Fisherman Lodge I have been staying in the Rock Creek canyon area for over 26 years, moving up from tent camping in the East fork camp ground to the Rock Creek Lodge with the modern conveniences of hot showers and heated rooms. I have stayed in the Rock Creek Lodge for 5 consecutive years with no complaints until now. My sons and I had a very successful fishing trip to Rock Creek Lake over the Fourth of July weekend. We limited out every day! On the return to our cabin on our last day of our stay, cabin #20 was unpacking and cabin #19 was preparing to leave but all guests were outside in front of the cabins. Janice, the lodge manager was among the guests when I was asked by a guest if we had good luck fishing? I answer the guest saying we just caught 10 fish when Janice the manager began to read me the riot act about the fishing regulations, she asked how many licensed fishermen where in the truck, she asked how many fish we had in our possession and all these question in front of paying guests. (12 people approx.) I told her I would not be returning to RCL in the future for the rude treatment and Janice told me good and also good you are leaving today. Our cabin was $240 per night, rated for 6 people but our party was only three. I talked to the owner (BOB) a week later about the incident and after he told me they were required to report to the fish and game, he hung up on me with no apology for the harsh and embarrassing treatment at RCL. We've been staying at RC for years. Just want to say the cabins are the pits. Rats running through the walls all night long keeping us awake. Now the real kicker is the manager of the place, Jan. She obviously could never hold a job any where else as she is such a grumpy B**ch! People person she is not so I'm not sure why the owner keeps her around, other than all she is concerned about is taking your money. If you want to stay at a nicer place Rock Creek Lakes Resort - just up the road at Pie in the Sky, they have really nice cabins! read more

My family and I came here once when I was younger and we had so much fun fishing and hiking. 10 years later my boyfriend and I decided to try and rent out one of the cabins for our one year anniversary/ get away weekend. I called to make a reservation three weeks in advance, no answer. So I sent an email to them asking if any small cabins were available. They emailed me back a couple days later saying "there was a cooling trend and a storm expected that weekend so they just didn't know" and okay, that's understandable. So I asked if I should reserve a little closer to the date or asked if we could hold a spot. I got an email back saying "the official closing date is Tuesday October 6th" which would enable me to stay just before they closed. I got excited and told my boyfriend to call and reserve a cabin for us. He called and left a voicemail, three days later no response. I just called again today myself to reserve a cabin and they were extremely rude. Told me the only cabins available were 250 dollars. It's just me, my dog, and my boyfriend so that's totally unnecessary we don't need a large cabin and it would be a waste of space and money. I tried explaining that I have been emailing them back and forth for weeks but they responded with "Well this is what we have available now." I hung up, so frustrated. Now my boyfriend and I both have a weekend off from work (which is very hard for both of us) with nowhere to go.. Very sad and panicked on trying to figure out other ideas for this weekend. read more
