Rock creek lake, first of the day!!

Wonderful place, going since 2018, twice a year. June with the family and September only with my husband. If you are looking for a quite place... This is the one!! Stayed in 3 different cabins and with the necessary utensils for the kitchen. Love the sunrise and the sound of the creek. Really nice staff, starting with Jan, Brandon and Luca. We already have reservations for this June.

I don't know how anyone had any problems with this beautiful vacation destination our trip was absolutely amazing! These negative reviews are shocking and a total opposite of my experience! I wish I could give MORE stars. We stayed in Cabin 15 and the rest of the family stayed in Cabins 9 and 21. Each cabin had Clean linen and towels and the entire Cabins were clean. Cabins were stocked with the essentials like kitchen ware, toilet paper, extra blankets, a ton of firewood for the wood stove heaters (which was adorable and functional for the chilly nights), cute dining tables, coffee makers, fridge, full bathrooms. Everything you could need right down to super cute handmade aprons you'll fall in love with you can purchase at the general store on site even a community breakfast dining room if you don't want to cook breakfast on your own. The cabins are right on the creek bank so if you have your windows open you hear the rushing water which was so relaxing! At night you can see a million stars it's so beautiful and the smell of all the pine trees is refreshing. Did I say how adorable the cabins are yet? The staff is absolutely the most accommodating ever, even after hours they keep a radio out so you can reach them for emergencies (like if you lock yourself out of the cabin at night like I did). I can't believe the negative reviews here about Jan they are totally false, from the first night of the week we enjoyed these cabins Jan and her staff went above and beyond to keep us comfortable. Jan is super kind and has a great sense of humor and I loved chatting with her during our stay. Jan was even kind enough to help me wash our personal blanket after it was soiled from altitude sickness, she was so understanding. Everyone who works here is super friendly and wants to help make this a great experience for the vacationers. The gentlemen who work the little general store have the best sense of humor and the kids loved going in for jokes and ice cream. And the ground staff are fun and friendly and always say hello and ask if you need anything. I HIGHLY recommend this as your next vacation destination, I have zero complaints and a million compliments about the accommodations and staff. I've never felt more at home away from home! If you're wanting to stay in the woods and fish or just relax and get out of the concrete jungle and get more in tune with nature this is the place, you won't be disappointed. Thank you everyone for everything Rock Creek Lodge, we had a blast! Can't wait to come back!!!

I wasn't going to write a review, except damn...they have some bad reviews. Can't speak to their experience, but I was invited by a friend, knew nothing about it, rented x-country skis for $30 from mammoth, and skied about 1-2 miles out to the lodge. There is a snow-mobile option for $10 as well. The lodge was amazing, we were allowed to bring our own booze for a corking fee, the staff was attentive and hard-working. There were five courses to the meal. Every part was well-prepared and delicious. I didn't get sick, I didn't see flies, I didn't return a thing. Seconds were brought out without argument if we wanted more food at all. The experience with a large group of friends was awesome. Highly recommended. 4 stars instead of 5 because of the $75 dinner price tag, and also because my skis sucked and I couldn't slide easily back down the hill to the car. Totally my fault, but I'm taking out my aggression somehow. Great experience. Do it.

    Double bed

This was our first time staying here at Rock Creek Lodge. Our family of 6 adults booked cabin #9. Our disappointment was that the website says there are 3 rooms. When we arrived we realized the kitchen is considered a room. So my husband and I had to share a room with my brother and his wife. This cabin has a bedroom with 2 double beds and a bedroom that has 1 double & 1 twin bed. In between the 2 bedrooms is the kitchen that has 6 chairs at a dining table. There is no living room area. The mattresses were not comfortable. Otherwise we did love the cabin!!!! We were so busy during the day and only there for dinner and to sleep and shower. No cell service. Lots of mosquitos.

    Fresh salad, great dressing!

We also visited Tamarak Sno-Park just five minutes up the road from Balsam, and it was beautiful, but was laid out with trails for cross-country skiers and snowmobilers. You need a $5 pass to park at a Sno-Park, and you must buy it before you get there. Stop at Tom's in town before you head up the hill. We'd never heard of Sno-Parks, and didn't know what to expect. They're just forested areas where you might hike if the weather were warmer where you can safely park and use the restroom if you need to. There are areas for sledding, but they are natural hills will trees and streams and rocks. There are open areas (some are Forest Service roads) (no trucks in sight), but there are lots of little hills, too. In the spring when we were there the best hill we found ended in a stream so we had to jump off our sleds in order not to get wet. We did not snowshoe, but there were lovely less hilly spots where snow shoeing would be fun. Balsam had a few parking spots (maybe space for 8-10 cars?), so it'll fill up fast. Tamarak has a much larger parking lot. Sno-Parks exist, basically, so that people won't park on the side of the road. There is no trash removal, no lights or electricity, and no amenities like picnic tables. It's just a parking lot and a safe (and beautiful) place to play in the snow. We were there in early April, and the snow was spotty, but still we were able to find enough to sled until we were exhausted, build a snowman, and have a snowball fight. We stayed in Shaver Lake, but these Sno-Parks are close enough to Clovis and Fresno, that you could also drive up for the day.

Managing a group of kids with very different skill levels is no small task, but Drew handled it with patience, enthusiasm, and impressive skill. He quickly assessed where each child was at and tailored his guidance so everyone felt challenged while still having fun and building confidence on the mountain. Over the two days, Drew took the kids all over the mountain, helping them explore new terrain while always keeping safety front and center. His clear instructions and practical tips made a noticeable difference in their skiing, and it was great to see their progress even within a short time. Drew has a great way of explaining technique in a way kids understand, which helped them improve without feeling overwhelmed. One of the highlights for the kids was spending time in the ski park, where Drew showed them some fun tricks and helped them try new things safely. He struck the perfect balance between encouraging them to push their limits and making sure they stayed in control and confident. By the end of the lessons, all four kids were excited about how much they had learned and couldn't stop talking about their favorite runs. We're incredibly grateful for the experience and would highly recommend Drew Harris to other families looking for a fantastic ski instructor. His ability to manage multiple levels, keep kids engaged, and make learning fun made these two days on the mountain truly memorable.

Nice upgrades on the Mtn with high capacity lifts and grooming but would like to see better dining options at the Main Lodge. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, activities, and amenities. The big bed has a comfortable mattress and there is a heater extra blankets. The mini fridge in the room would not recommend I don't think it worked despite turning the knobs to higher setting, there is a communal fridge in the dining kitchen area, so you can write your name with a note and use that if necessary. People don't really need to bring much as the resort has everything you might need. However, extra body wash, shampoo, and such would be useful to bring if traveling with a large group because the ones offered in the bathroom come in tiny trial size containers. The bunk beds seemed to have a inflatable mattresses so if planning a trip with multiple adults that could be a concern if picky. My boyfriend and I stayed during Memorial Day weekend, and we were very happy with this place. The mountains had some visible snow still from the lodge deck. Check in and Check out was simple and easy. If you need to work remotely with strong internet, know that while the wifi is Starlink, it's spotty. There were s'mores our first night which reminded me so much of camping growing up. We were in the Sugar something lodge, and the hot water did not disappoint, reliable and hot each time. Water pressure okay and as expected being so remote. Food is all self serve, and it's very organized. There is a small ice maker as well to fill up water bottles for the day. The food was consistent. If you get bored easily, i recommend checking out board games at the front desk. If technology dependent, were sort of able to download slowly episode of a show on Netlfix while there, but I recommend doing this earlier in advance at home or wherever signal is fast. All the workers are kind, and we highly recommend partaking in the activities that are offered daily. There are 2 tennis courts too, lap pool, hot tub, bouncy house (sometimes on), kids trampoline, lounge chairs galore, communal books. The Archery was a blast, it gave us a chance to try it, and the canoeing was so relaxing. Upon request, they have a bagged lunch system so if you plan to venture out to the famous site seeing hikes or spots at Seqoia National Park, it could be helpful. There are many activities, and it is incredibly family friendly. I highly recommend to all no matter what age. I would definitely stay again and recommend to people who want a fun relaxing spot for camping vibes or outdoor activities. Also everything at the resort is walking distance so pretty convenient. Also AWD or 4WD highly recommended as of right now 10-15 mins of the route is dusty dirt unpaved road uphill/downhill. However, we did see a BMW sedan once but we felt bad for the car.

You will be better off throwing yourself into the ground at high speed to be able to stop on time, and walk around it, or you risk of being threatened like a criminal to cancel your pass, and to only use an easy line. On Friday, January 9th, I used a nice black diamond line 3 times from 9-11:30 am, no fence whatsoever, everything perfectly safe. While trying to run it for a 4th time at around 12:45, I noticed a "safety fence" on exactly the exit of that line, on a place that wouldn't make any sense. I already committed to the line, and was going at a decent speed. I tried to be polite enough, not destroying the fence but rather going under it. The ski patrol was finishing the fence close to where I crossed it, so he proceeded to threaten me like a criminal to cancel my pass and felt with the authority to order me to use Academy only. Weird thing, I tried to run the line again at like 2:30 pm, but planned to use a slightly different exit to avoid that fence, and for some "strange" reason, the fence I crossed and that I was threatened for, wasn't even there anymore. That tells me that someone made a mistake and just put a fence on a place that didn't make any sense whatsoever, and that would have actually made the run more dangerous instead of safer. Not even try to e-mail China Peak, they won't own their mistake, and essentially they will threaten you again over email to cancel you pass.
