Amazing place for dessert hour! Ended up going to the cafe side. I got a Turkish coffee and pistachio sablee. You now have to order on a iPad. It was kind of a pain. The lady working the counter wasn't sure of whose order was who's. The Turkish coffee was average at best I really really liked the pistachio sablee. Manakeesh is a delight! I've ordered delivery from here for about 5 years and the flavors keep me coming back. The Combo Manakeesh with half cheese half Zaatar is my favorite - it's pure comfort food and the Zaatar they use is top notch. If you eat plant-based you'll find a lot of yummy options here. The Veggie Platter, Fattoush Salad, Greek Salad, Gluten Free Plater, Grape Leaves Platter, and Falafel Platter are all delicious options. Also, their Baba Ghannouj is probably my favorite in the city, and their hummus is up there as well. If you get the Combo Manakeesh, try it with a side of hummus for dipping it's amazing! The prices here are definitely high compared to other places in the area, particularly for the apps, platters, and bakery items. I'd probably order from here more often if it was not as expensive as it is. That said, the portions are quite large and I can usually make 2 meals out of a platter. The food is so good here you can almost ignore the fact that every time you order there will be at least one mistake. Always call to make sure they are actually going to make and deliver your order. When they say fresh pita, they really mean fresh pita! It's piping hot and oh so good! My husband and I went in to split a meat platter with the chicken tawook, babaganoush, and fattoush salad. The chicken was perfectly charred and juicy. The fattoush was light and herbal. Everything was fresh and flavorful and super delicious, although maybe a tad bit salty. One platter with these sides was perfect for the two of us, and worth the cost! Service was relatively fast. It's very casual inside, with some outdoor seating too, which was perfect for today's lovely weather. Another must-try is their shortbread cookies. I really enjoyed the blast of salt, savory, spicy and earthiness with the zaatar seasoning on top of this bread and juxtaposed to the warm melted cheese. Since they had folded it in half before serving, some of the seasoning got onto the cheese accidentally; but wow, great combination! We got an add-on of hummus with the bread, which was also delicious, but I think the flatbread can stand on its own. I can't wait to go back to have more of the manakeesh as well as try out some of their other dishes like the falafel platter/wraps. I've bought from Manakeesh more times over the years so I wanted to update my review. Service has been mixed. The basic service in person was fine. Smoothies are okay. However, there were some difficulties when I tried to put in a large order for delivery/catering. They repeatedly tried to pressure me into ordering less appetizing items that I didn't want. It took a few back-and-forths to insist that I really did want to order the items I was ordering -- the person I spoke with wasn't sure if there'd be enough of that item "left over" on the day of my order. We headed over to Manakeesh on a warm Sunday night in September. Manakeesh is a really great place for a causal relaxed meal, coffee, a snack or treats from their bakery. The place was pretty full with just a few empty tables inside. There were open tables outside. There was in interesting mix of customers also. Everyone was very friendly. The interior is charming and clean. The menu is straight forward and everything seemed made to order. The portions were very large. I had the Shawarma and my wife had the spicy fish. Both tasted fresh and the Hummus, salad and French Fries were outstanding. We took some Baklava home for dessert and that was also really good. Manakeesh also has a nice selection of coffee and smoothies. I am really happy we finally made it to Manakeesh and I am already looking forward to returning soon! read more

After my third time at Manakeesh, I'm finally ready to write a review. Why three times, instead of my usual pre-review requirement of two? Well...in spite of all the other adoring reviews, and in spite of the fact that Middle Eastern/Mediterranean cuisine is my favorite, I just wasn't having great luck with my orders, until this past Friday. So let's start with the best, and work back to most disappointing; On Friday I ordered a grape leaves wrap for dinner. I knew that I really liked their stuffed grape leaves (or, as known by their Greek name, dolmades) and how can you go wrong with fattoush salad (hold the onions!) and baba ghanoush? Well, they forgot to hold the onions, but they did call me not 5 minutes after my pick-up to apologize and offer to replace the whole meal. I told them not to worry, and I was glad I did (the onions were few and easy to pick out anyway). It was a really great wrap, and a perfect portion. Flavorful and filling, but not too much so. My partner got the falafel platter, which he really liked, but the massive hummus portion packs a punch - you might not want to finish it in a single sitting. So I knew I liked the stuffed grape leaves thanks to the ma'ali platter. That was from visit number two. Sadly, that was the only thing I completely enjoyed from that meal (which I shared with my partner, together with a cheese manakeesh). The fried cauliflower, eggplant and potatoes were tasty enough, but so loaded down with oil that I really didn't feel great soon after. As for the cheese manakeesh...I just don't get it. What am I missing? My first visit was the biggest disappointment. I ordered the cheese and spinach manakeesh. The spinach was so briny I could barely eat it. I guess I was expecting a more Greek-style cheese-spinach blend, and this was not that. I mean, I love pickled cucumbers, but Manakeedh goes super heavy on vinegar and pickled foods, at least on everything I've had. Not the most glowing review, and it really feels more like 3.5 than 4 stars, but I gave the full 4 because the service is great, very quick, friendly and mindful, and everyone else I've gone with has really enjoyed their food. This place was really busy, and after eating my meal it was easy to understand why. You order at a counter (one for food, one for sweets) and get a number and wait. While you wait, position yourself to grab a table when one becomes free. (In a hurry? You can also order online.) If you sit outside, don't worry--they'll shout for you when your food is ready. I started coming here when it first opened many years ago. I don't come here as often, but when I come I always enjoy their food. Their main savory section do not open until 10am, but it takes a bit to heat up their oven. However, they serve drinks, crepes, and various Lebanese sweets earlier. If you have not tasted their baklava, please try them soon. I especially like their cashew baklava; their baklavas are just sweet enough, phyllo right texture of crispness, and generous amount of nuts. Every time I come here I try different food. I have to still say Saad's wraps and kebabs outdo Manakeesh, but Manakeesh's hummus, tabbouleh, grape leaves, and of course, manakeesh are very good. The ambiance is nice, on a nice day you can eat indoors or outdoors. It gets quite crowded later in the evening, so I usually go there earlier. I am simply happy we have Manakeesh, along with other delicious Middle Eastern places in West Philly. I usually just walk around so parking is a non issue for me, but if you do drive parking can be a bit tough. I had heard good things about Manakeesh from friends so decided to check it out. Upon entering the restaurant, there is a large counter for customers to place and pay their order. Once paid you will get a number to place on your table. With this number system I'm not sure if it was for the staff to bring you your food or for you to pickup once your food is ready. I saw both scenarios happening when I was there. The menu: -The menu is substantive and has many options for different dietary restrictions. -There are a few parts of the menu which are confusing since they seem similar with other menu items, however the person behind the counter was able to clarify easily for us. -We noticed this after, but there is a printed menu available at the counter, not only the one above the counter as we had thought. -There is signage at the counter indicating that due to rising costs, all prices will be increased by 5% from what is stated. However checking in on Yelp yields a 5% off purchase coupon. Food: -The portions are huge and easily shared -The pita is made to order and very delicious -Everyone in the group enjoyed their order. -The bakery's menu looked delicious but sadly most items were out of stock. With all the positives listed above, you may be wondering why the three star review. The bathroom was absolutely filthy and disgusting. I am hoping it's due to a fluke but it was bad enough to dock a star. Upon future visits If the situation improves I will update my review. Additionally the whole numbering system is frankly confusing. Some of us had our food brought to us. Others had to keep looking at the area where food that was ready to see if our order was there. The restaurant was not busy so we were unsure what the deal was. This resulted in loss of a star since the last person in our group to get their food, where the rest of the group was already midway through theirs. This resulted in the loss of another star. Overall I would give Manakeesh another chance and also would love to try their bakery. I hope they take the feedback and address it. Things to know: -It will be easier to look and order off printed menu versus one displayed above counter -Indoor and outdoor seating available -Pay attention to food that is ready to be served, your order may be stuck there if you are waiting for it to be brought to you -Guest WiFi available -Come prepared with hand sanitizer to wash your hands versus using the bathroom. And do your best to avoid having to use the restaurant restroom. You will thank me later. -Cutlery, napkins, and water are self served. This place is still my go-to Middle Eastern restaurant in Philly so far. Their service was not pleasant and I kind of noticed that their food quality is going downhill a little bit. But their pita/flatbread is still the best in Philly & I will still come here to just get their flatbread pizza (Manakeesh)!
