Been hitting Manana for solid decade. Not had all menu items, but favorites are seafood soup, burritos, and taquitos all excellent. Our family enjoyed the seafood soup many times, burritos are big and tasty, carnitas taquitos go to favorite almost weekly. Mananas is best mexican food in Alpine, quality is excellent and consistent year after year. Location is also ideal, right at hwy exit. And good selection of cold beers! read more

I am torn on this review because I have had both great experiences and not-so-great experiences with the service but the food has always been decent if you know what to order. ;) Their carne asada meat is atypical of most Mexican restaurants & comes in larger sections that is juicy and well-marinated. Yum, yum. YUM. The rolled tacos, by comparison, are awful! Barely any meat and soggy! Yuck. As to my initial comment regarding service, let me just say that I have worked in service industries my whole life and I understand how customer service works... It all depends on who you get on which time you go in to this restaurant. And this is unfortunate, but it seems to parallel the theme of the food. Roll the die one day and see what you get...? Not very consistent. You might get the happy-to-help lady, the sweetly perky young lady, or the vacant-eyed girl who isn't really interested in making sure you had a good experience and will even slightly insult you. I'm new to alpine, so I'm looking for all the good food spots! Of course being in San Diego we get pretty spoiled with authentic delicious Mexican food, but this place did not disappoint! I ordered the Carne Asada burrito and it was delicious. They have a salsa bar with a variety of reds and a salsa verde! I tried them all and my favorite was definitely the salsa verde. This is great Mexican food done right! Whether you're ordering something with chicken, carne asada or carnitas you're going to be impressed! Huge amount to choose from on the menu and I have never been disappointed. Their salsas taste great and their guacamole is excellent. Great roomy atmosphere for dine in or take out. To heavy on veggies with a dash of meat, I'm not used to over use of veggies at a Mexican restaurant. I was disappointed that I had to dig through veggies to find the beef.... I ordered chili Colorado which everywhere I have ever ordered this dish it is cubed beef smothered in red sauce. When my plate came the first time it was pork are you kidding me? I've been going to this place for 25 years. The food is very good. I've had problems placing orders over the phone and not getting what I ordered. Also just got two orders of rolled tacos and the guacamole did not cover all of the tacos. Usually when this happens to me I start shopping around for a new Taco Shop not cool at all,me and my kids were very disappointed. If you order five rolled tacos then you should have all five Road tacos covered with guacamole in this case it was only three out of five. Maybe the coronavirus has a shortage of guacamole I don't know. If someone told me they were running low on guacamole then I would've ordered something else. Also it would be nice when you order over the phone that they repeat the order back to you and drop the attitude. we've been eating at Manana's for years and have always loved the food. Until today. I got my usual, 3 chicken rolled taco's with cheese only. When they served them, they just looked different. Like the oil was dirty or they were using different tortillas. they tasted so stale. Staying next door for my sons baseball tournament. Really good chilli rellenos and beef taco combo. Whole Anaheim chilli stuffed with cheese and batter fried covered with red sauce. Tacos with queso fresco cheese were really good. Dad had rolled tacos & asada tacos. Also good. Kind of skimpy on the chips but had a fresh salsa bar including pickled carrots. I've been living in Alpine for nine months and have frequented the local Mexican joints quite a bit. I really don't like one more than the other but rather go to one depending on what I feel like eating that particular day. I go to Mañana's when I'm craving shrimp ceviche. Only served on Saturday and Sundays, their ceviche is served on a crisp corn tortilla with a good-sized portion of shrimpy goodness. All for $3.50! While I wished it had a little more lime, I can't complain especially since there is a perfect shrimp to pico de gallo ratio. Their carne asada and pollo asado are decent, but I'd skip the potato rolled tacos all together. Prices are reasonable and service is good. read more

I may not live in San Diego anymore, but when I did, this little Alpine gem was my favorite place to get Mexican food. Conveniently located right off the freeway, this place is great for just picking up to-go food or, since their semi-recent remodel, it's also a good place to dine in. On my recent return home, my mom hosted a party at the house, catered by Mañana's. They provided a ton of DELICIOUS rice, meats, guacamole, salsas, and tortillas that actually really impressed my friend, who is 100% Mexican and normally very picky about his culture's food. My hubby, friend and I decided to give this a try after checking the menus and prices of two other Mexican restaurants in Alpine. The food was "ok". The guys got burritos and they were huge. Both guys liked the flavor in of the carne asada but all of us felt there wasn't enough flavor over all. Especially the salsa.... Very bland. The prices are about average. Good place when you want your Mexican food fix satisfied! Salsa bar has the yummy pickled onions (they're actually sweet!), carrots and chili's that accompany the tacos well. Plus you can enjoy a Negra Modelo, my favorite, with your meal. Good menu. If you're from Alpine, you would know that whenever someone mentions the "taco shop", they mean Mañana's! I have tried probably every single dish from here, and I have never ever been disappointed! Food always tastes good and the service is excellent. The quality of service is something I really need to highlight. Been dining here for years and the quality service has ALWAYS been top notch. The tacos are worth it; they are huge tacos. The burritos are "to share" unless you're super hungry. Their sauces are bOmb. This is typically my go to Mexican food restaurant considering their food is delicious and they stay open late. My past visits I've experienced excellent customer service and always with a smile and greeting. This was my first time ordering from Joana. When we walked in we stood at the register for about 2-3 minutes and waited for her to finish wiping down the counter. This didn't bother me until she just stared at me, instead of asking what I would like to order. As I started to order she blankly stared at me the entire time. When I would ask a question about the food I was ordering she would reply short and roll her eyes and gave the impression that she didn't care to listen. After I was done ordering I asked for napkins she replied by saying, "over there" and pointed to the drinking fountain. The food kinda changed though, not sure if it was the time but my beans were old and dry and my carne chips were almost lacking. We used to not finish but this time it was smaller and lacked meat. Terrible service!!!!!! I used to love mananas. Been going for years and years! Not sure what has changed but The quality has gone waaaaaay down hill. You can order the same thing and it will be made a different way each time. I'm not one to write reviews but I've been unhappy the last few times I've attempted to go in (more then 5 attempts). I tried to give the benefit of the doubt but will no longer recommend this restaurant nor go there. A certain lady in there is extremely rude! She's argumentative and makes you feel bad for her mistakes. No matter how polite you are she will end a conversation blaming you for a very simple order being made incorrectly even though there were no special instructions. She offered to bring missing ingredients to my table on the side instead of remaking the food correctly. You never know what your going to get anymore. With the cost of food these days I would expect it to atleast be made with what is shown on the menu. Not sure what her role is at this restaurant but be warned she's very unprofessional and rude. This place is righteous. Family oriented and very friendly, the food is very tasty and the prices are all very reasonable. I ordered a California burrito and almost couldn't finish it cuz it was so big. Glad I didn't get the beans. Super tasty too! Even my daughter who is (dare I say it?) not a fan of mexican food would have liked it. The interior isn't going to win any decorating awards, but it's what you'd expect of this type of place. Certainly not a dive, but you'd be overdressed in anything more than jeans. Looks like it could handle a good sized group (30-40) if necessary, too.
