I have been eating here for years but lately, not only is the food not as good as it once was but they can't seem to get my order correct. A few days ago, I picked up a pollo asado burrito and when I got home, I discovered they had given me carnitas (I don't eat pork). Tonight, I specifically asked if they could make a burrito with only beans and rice. They said yes. I got my order and the wrapper said "B & R" on it so I assumed they had made it correctly. Nope! The worst place ever! I usually don't feel the need to yelp out terrible places but I went here, ordered 4 carne asada burritos no pico. I got home, and bamm they all had pico, extra pico! Was this some sick joke they were playing on a gringo? I called and spoke to tge "manager" they told me to bring my burritos back.( I live 30 mins away) to get the right ones. I explained to this manager I don't come to alpine all that much and asked for him to just take my name down. They did, or so the manager said. Come for the food, not the service! The food is amazing! Everything I've tried here is delicious. But the woman who works at the counter's lack of customer service is always offensive. Today she went a little too far with her bad attitude. I went for lunch today and she handed me my to go order. I politely said thank you, and no response. So I sad it again a bit louder. Service was horrible. Young girls working the front just kept talking and made no attempt to take our order until it was convenient to them clearly. The food was so so, nothing special. Every time we came here we ordered multiple different things for our family of 7. However every time we went we did ordered fries supreme with no meat & some how Every single time they left off the beans and when we complained they said they don't come with beans and could charge us for a side if we would like. No. I wouldn't like. Why have the menu say they come with beans if your employees won't read the menu and make the food accordingly. I have been frequenting this place for many, many years and have generally enjoyed the food--however, like another recent reviewer, picked up a to-go order of 3 rolled tacos with guacamole. When I arrived home and opened it up, the guacamole was an extremely unappetizing shade of gray! In what universe is that acceptable? This place is getting to be very "hit and miss." It used to be consistently decent, but over the past year or so we've either gotten really good food or super terrible food. I especially have to agree with the reviewers who have complained about the food being BURNED. Come on, when that happens, don't pack it up and give it to me cause you WILL be getting it back! Happens a lot probably cause I order to-go. BURNED Calamari burritos are INEDIBLE, burned everything else is just careless and gross. I have noticed that the more people are working, the crappier the food is. Went last night and there were two people in the front and at least 3 in the kitchen and the food was awful and bland. How do you make bland Mexican food? All it needs is garlic, onions, salt, jalapenos and it is delicious! But no, I had to season it when I got home. ALL of the salsas were BLAND! In contrast, I get really delicious food when there is one guy out front and one guy in the back. It's to the point now where I don't place a phone order--I want to go and see how many people are working and if it is more than two, I go elsewhere. Too bad. We grew up eating lots of home made Spanish and Mexican food. When you come to Manana's that is what you will get. Home made delicious food. It is fresh and wholesome! The best Spanish / Mexican food you can get in all of San Diego County area. It is mouth watering and pure yummyness! It may look like a little taco shop on the outside but do not let that decieve you the way it did my husband and I for years until a friend brought me here. There is a little restuarant inside. They are very friendly and fill the plates with delicious pure, fresh, wholesome food. This became our place to come for Spanish and Mexican food. ¡No way José! I brought my family here to have some Mexican food. We ordered the carne Asada, Tacos, and beef taquitos. The carne Asada was cold and very bland. Tacos was served with about a half of pound of cheese and the taquitos was unrecognizable. Being from New Mexico, the chile was very weak here. Then their salsa has no spice to it. what is wrong with this Mexican food place it taste like white people are making it not real Mexicans. People who like this food clearly have never taste real Mexican food or people in Alpine don't have taste buds. Can't wait to go back to Chula Vista were the food there is way better than Alpine. If you want good Mexican food this is the place. Great prices, fast, and tastes great!

If you want authentic Mexican breakfast, stay away. We ordered huevos rancheros, they just placed a soggy oil dipped tortilla with eggs topped with canned salsa. When I approached the cashier about my dish. He didn't even offer to remedy the situation he just said "oh well, that's how we make them". Ruined my breakfast for the day. They should change their recipe and try using the salsa from their salsa bar instead of canned salsa for this dish. Good luck to all! read more

A late night stop for food after a visit to Campo to ride the Polar Express train. I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious the food was here. The shrimp enchiladas tasted great and the chicken taco was better than most in San Diego. I highly recommend stopping in to try the Mexican dishes here!! read more

This is probably the BEST mexican restaurant in San Diego! The Mar y Terra burrito is the best thing on the menu. The carne asada is never over-cooked, always fresh, and the shrimp is tender and amazing. There is a light sauce that comes in it and ties it together. Their rolled tacos are awesome as well. The food here is for the most part okay but some times heartbreaking when you are hungry and the carne asada is hard as a rock as if it had been sitting on the grill longer than recommended. However, I would recommend the adobada the fresher the better obviously:) read more
