This place is perfect for a first date. My husband and I met up with friends here and it is very romantic and good food. I got the Gnocchi with meatballs and my husband got Chicken Picada and both meals were very tasty. I think the Gnocchi and meatballs could have added a little more meatballs and a little less sauce, but it was really good how it was. The stuffed mushrooms were amazing. There is a lot of cheese on everything. The lighting is perfect, the music is light and romantic. The drinks are really good. My husband got a Italian margarita and it was super tasty. We arrived to be greeted by Fran, the daughter of Mama Mancuso. We were promptly seated and met with water service. Our head waiter David was a consummate professional. He personally selected our appetizers, oysters Rockefeller and "borata". Both excellent choices that were beyond my palette. Salads and cheesy garlic bread were perfect and unique. Main courses included lamb chops, lobster, lasagna and shrimp and scallops. What a treat. Take home is inevitable. Three person team shared Davids responsibility. Next up, aperitif. We came in with a party of 6 with 2 teen and college aged boys. Our waiter was wonderful and treated all 6 of us with the same level of exemplary service and respect (even the boys ). He was friendly and engaging and laughed with us. The food was fantastic! Again, our waiter was extremely helpful with wine and food choices. What a bad experience from the minute we walked in! I am starting to get use to poor service from millennials but the hostess that greeted us is from a generation that should know better. We had a reservation and the hostess was slumped over the hostess stand and acted like she was put out when I approached her to check in. She asked if we were all here and I said no and she said "wait over there". A few minutes pass by and I ask about our reservations and she said "oh you want to be seated before everyone arrives?" I confirmed "yes" and she then reached out to several other guests that had come in through the door. Once we were sat our server came and she was friendly enough but seemed very overwhelmed! Service was not fast or efficient... We had to ask for water, extra wine glass, extra cutlery, bread and poured our own wine throughout the dinner. The food was a 1 star at best. So disappointing would not recommend, and likely would not go back again. read more

If I could give negative stars I would! This place blows! My girlfriend is very allergic to meat so she ordered the "vegetarian" paella! She started feeling sick right after eating it and asked what the dish was made with and the waitress said "oh chicken broth!" Like it was super casual, no big deal! And when I asked the manager why it was made with chicken broth she said most people ask before ordering a vegetarian dish if it has meat or cook with meat... why in the hell would I ask if a dish that says vegetarian in the title has meat or not??? The manager than said "well it's just chicken broth, it's not actually meat" and than proceeded to laugh like it was no big deal! And then i told her well say that to my girlfriend who's throwing up non stop since leaving and had her face in a toilet all night! Not to mention they said the owner was going to call me back! The ambiance is nice & I like the location in DT PHX for events. Our first time was Valentines Day weekend. There was a concert that evening so it was lively & fun people watching. Our waiters name escapes me but they had just moved from Chicago in the last 3 months. They were on top of cocktails & paced our dinner & apps perfectly. It was a nice relaxing dinner. We had a martini filthy & Manhattan to start. Nest were the Seared Ahi Bites which were fresh, tangy & gorgeous bites. I'll order those again next time. The Veal Scaloppini Oscar Style which was my hubs entrée & he absolutely loved it. I had the Chicken Piccata which was moist, buttery & cooked to perfection. I'd have that 100x. I normally don't order chicken when dining out for fear of the dreaded dry chicken that we've all ingested at one time or another unfortunately. But this was GREAT. We'll be back again to get our Fine Italian food fix. A definite must try when in DT PHX. read more

I was visiting Phoenix and looked at menus because I have a vegetarian son, was entertaining a friend that had jaw surgery and needed "soft food" and I'm a fish person. The menu here looked good so I decided to make reservations. I arrived at 4PM when they opened because I was staying at a hotel right around the corner from the restaurant. I wanted to get there first and check it out to make sure it was as good as the reviews claimed. I told my iPhone to give me directions to Mancuso's restaurant and it popped up and I started to walk. When I got to the "you have arrived" spot I was dumbfounded, there was no restaurant there just a big office building. I googled Mancuso and there was no indication that I was at the wrong address but then I saw suite 201 (or something like that) I tried to get into the building but the downstairs door were locked (it was Saturday) I saw an escalator and took it and when I got to the top I saw a big sign with the name of the restaurant. We entered and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely the best I had tasted in all my time in Phoenix. read more

I don't get to go out much having kids so when I do I really try to make it perfect. Saw reviews and decided to try this place. I have an allergy to milk so I always mention that up front. We ordered oysterda to start- the worst I ever had. Not much meat and just terrible. Next we ordered- I was craving picata but they couldn't make it without cheese. Drinks came- totally watered down. Next the breadsticks- they had cheese on them despite my saying I was allergic. Meal came and I split a steak with my gf- I asked for extra veggies due to my allergy and the mashed potatoes having cheese- it came with mashed potatoes. The waitress really didn't seem to care when we expressed our dissatisfaction. The steak was fatty and not good. Overall terrible experience - gave one extra star for decor. read more

That should have been our first clue. I finally got the appetizer another 1 later, then when we begged to please send our dinners our, the waitress came back to tell us they were backed up and CANCELLED our order!!!!!! That was after sitting there 1 1/2 hrs AFTER we ordered. No apologies were offered. The owner was RUDE and told us she would help us write the review. Shameful service. Will NEVER EVER GO BACK. I had the best Italian meal ever! I have been to New York, Chicago, Dallas..... of all places to find the best was here in Phoenix, AZ. I asked if the tomatoes were looking good and was told "yes" they are great, so I ordered a Caprese salad. It was ok at best, with the tomato being a poor winter fruit with no taste. Ordered the Bolognese with linguine. First it was brought out 3 minutes after ordering and I hadn't come close to eating my salad so the waiter offers to bring it out later. We stopped by for a quick drink and food before a show but we needed to be some what quick (within an hour ). No water refills, over charged (corrected), appetizers took 45 minutes. Our server, David, was very animated - but did offer some great suggestions. We shared the veal meatballs with creamy risotto (based on other Yelp comments) and it was fabulous. My hubby had the crusted lambchops and he really liked them - I had the veal chop and it too was very good. All dishes came out hot, which is always a pleasant surprise. We shared a bottle of wine and creme brulee for desert. Wine was one of the lowest priced available at it was decent and the creme brulee tasted like creme brulee. I love restaurant week just to try new restaurants and this one did not disappoint. But I am surprised that it was not busier for a Thursday night. Enjoyed the mixed green salad with mustard vinagrette. The garlic bread to taste was good especially the Texas toast garlic bread. I had the shrimp and scallop scampi. I think I died and went to Italian heaven. Friend had the filet mignon. You could cut it with a butter knife. The Gorgonzola mashed potatoes were lift and airy and addictive. Dessert consisted of cheese cake with a strawberry drizzle. I could not finish it so I get to enjoy it later. Service was awesome and highly recommend the trip downtown to go there. This is a timeless local diamond recently recreated in downtown Phoenix. The decor is elegant. The service superb without being too much. We had the cannelloni, meat lasagne after stuffed mushrooms and shared spinach, arugula and quinoa. Garlic bread was heavenly. Huge portions! We did share cannoli which was divine! I'm rating this restaurant two stars based on the experience my sister and I received while dining here on Saturday evening. There were quite a few grievances we had during our 2 hour dinner. It seemed as though our server was new or just overwhelmed, because he ended up with about six tables with parties between 2-6 people. We got our first drink and appetizer in good time. Unfortunately, I ordered the chicken breast Oscar style and did not get what I ordered. I ended up with fish and my sister had to go to the hostess for help because our server disappeared. We saw him about four times in total that night, and spent more time there than we wanted. When we finally saw him again, he looked confused as to why only my sister had her food and I told him I received the wrong entree. He apologized then quickly left the table. Here's the thing...at a restaurant like this, you're not just paying for the food, you're paying for the experience, and this was just poor. The hostess who helped sort everything out really did her best, and I truly appreciate that, but our server just needs some guidance here with empathy and learning the ropes. The people behind us had to have the hostess come over and fix a few details of their meals as well because they had the same server. We had to order our second round of drinks with the hostess, too. As we were finishing up, one of the kitchen runners who brought us our original entrees stopped by the table and apologized. He said the chicken and the fish all look the same when topped Oscar style. That was nice of him, but this is why, as a server, you visit your table within a minute of food being delivered to check everything is perfect. He didn't check until well after my sister finished her meal. As an apology, he said one dessert was on the house, so we got cheesecake. Before he left again, my sister ordered a Spanish coffee and he looked confused but said he'd ask the bartender. 15 minutes went by and we had to go because our concert started at 7:30, it was already 7:05. Next we saw him, my sister just asked for our bill and he had it ready and set it down, never even mentioned the coffee. This isn't to a say anything against the food, because it was all truly delicious, but having such a poor experience really doesn't make it worth trying again, and there are people out there that have a much lower tolerance than we did, so while the free cheesecake was nice, I don't think it replaces a real apology. read more

Average food and terrible service! My waiter, in describing the night's special, told me the wrong price, sides, and how the dish was prepared. Honestly what I received was completely different from what he described. When I told him this he shrugged and said he doesn't usually work there. Wow. The food was really average...salad had a smoky taste that I'm still trying to figure out. The wine was also a different year than advertised on the menu. Basically these people don't seem to understand anything about how to run a restaurants, i.e. Actually describe what food your customers will receive. Please avoid, you can do better! read more
