WOW! This precious place is a beautiful gem! As soon as you step inside, you know you're in a very special place, beautifully designed and decorated with art and Tibetan artifacts. The food was so delicious, we had the amazing chicken momos and samosas as appetizers, followed by Tibetan chow mein, yum! This place has the best momo's in the world!!! Try EVERYTHING!!! Tibet, Japanese and Indian in one house and the best staff! Plenty of parking and easy to find. Personal favorites are Chili Tofu...Tibetan chow mien...Pakora and the Aloo Gobi. Everything is FRESH and no buffet or all you can eat. Wonderful vegetarian place in Ojai! I had the lunch combo with 3 items and was able to customize it. Their tibetan chow mein was delicious. I able to substitute tofu for their beef and broccoli, and the dish was flavorful! Also tried their avocado roll which was very fresh. The vegetables momos was amazing as well. Great find! read more

This is my favorite restaurant in the Ojai valley. The atmosphere is serene, the prices very reasonable, and the food is awesome. You can taste the love that goes into preparing it. We were at Mandala a few weeks ago (3 adults, and 3 children). We waited over an HOUR for our food. The waitress was polite and did say they were short-staffed that night. The owner/manager came by to check on us once and we told her how long we had been waiting. At no point did they bring us anything to nibble on while we waited, which I found unacceptable considering we had three kids. Most places would have given a complimentary appetizer or dessert for the inconvenience, but this place did nothing. As far as the food goes, it was good. But then again, we were beyond starving once we got our meals. read more

Had dinner here on Saturday. It's a little outside of town, but the food was really good, staff was friendly, and it was unique. There was live music and I was a little nervous to try something new, but the food was delicious! The Tibetan chow mein had a really good ginger flavor in it and the momos were a yummy appetizers (I had mine steamed and they were good, but I think they would've been better fried). So glad my wife and I decided to come here for dinner on our last day of a four-day Ojai vacation. We had reservations at the Ranch House but changed our minds because we had already spent a lot going to dinner at Nocciola. The waiter was welcoming and very professional. Our food came in an appropriate amount of time- the cold food cold and the hot food hot! I had the garlic naan bread with mixed salad and pineapple chicken, and my wife had the Tibetan momo soup. We both loved the flavors. The decor and music is Tibetan Buddhist with Endless Knot banners, prayer flags, a few quotes from the Dalai Lama, all tastefully done. Nice patio outside with firepit. We love the humble, peaceful atmosphere of this special gem. Everyone on who works there is clearly concerned about ensuring we have an enjoyable meal. They are very vegetarian friendly. The dried chili tofu is a favorite of ours (I get cravings for it), and they usually make us vegetable tempura sushi rolls (which are not on the menu - but totally delish!). It's the kind of place that gives you the feeling of being away from it all, in a rare and undiscovered land... Not too undiscovered though, I hope! I really love eating here, it's friendly and has a diversity of yummy food to choose from... I go through phases of what I like to eat- I was eating chicken curry often, which is delicious, with fresh ground spices, and now I'm loving the new vegetable dishes in the menu like eggplant with string beans - yum! Steamed momos are my favorite comfort food and are delightful with a cold beer. I like having drinks and appetizers on the patio with an evening breeze. Mushroom cakes, crispy rice, jalapeño spicy tuna, baked green mussels, dry chili tofu..... Bring a friend and share! Its also very kid friendly, on the patio you can bring your dog, and many of the items are/ or can be made vegan and gluten-free. read more

Did not disappoint!! A friend had recommended it but I was skeptical of the fusion of what seemed like a strange combination of cuisines. I was wrong. So so wrong to be skeptical. It had the perfect mix of cuisines for our family. Salmon sashimi for our sashimi loving boy. Simple noodles for our noodle boy. And a variety of extremely flavorful options for the adults. Really enjoyed our meal last night, and what a wonderful concept for a restaurant - Tibet, Japan and India. Where else can you enjoy sake with a Tibetan curry? A highlight was definitely the appetizers - stuffed Japaleno and the mushroom cake. Divine! (To the reviewer who didn't enjoy his experience, Tibetan curries are quite different from Indian curries) Issues: our curry beef was a little chewy, the restaurant had cold air running through it despite being cold outside, and the music was a very strange distracting mix. Overall, I would definitely go again for the wonderful Japanese-inspired fusion foods. read more

I can not recall having a meal as bad as the one just served me. As an appetizer we had Samosas. These were probably out of a box and blah . We had 3 Tibetan vegetarian entrees. None of which had any flavor, just over cooked Vegetables. Then to top it off the Naan was so over cooked it resembled a cracker and it was served with sushi rice ??? Maybe the Sushi is out of this world, that's the only reason it can have 41/2 stars. read more

An NO naan bread (kinda disappointing at a restaurant that serves fusion and Indian food, as stated on both the main sign and the A-frame sign on the street)as half the meal should be eaten with your hands and the bread). I have only eaten here once, but my parents and my brother have eaten here quite a few times (they live in Ojai). I thought the decor and ambiance, and especially the music, was really great. The owners each came to our table, once at the beginning to welcome us and see if we had questions, and again at the end of the meal to see how we liked the food. My parents have owned a business in Ojai for over three decades, so that might be one reason they were especially friendly -- because they know my family (acquaintances). I am sharing this info because they are such a sweet couple, and their son who works there is very nice to. Having grown up in a family run business, I love the idea of supporting local establishments that are family owned and operated. I try to be thoughtful about where I spend my money. The fact that the couple were refugees from Tibet and that they continue to give back to their home community is meaningful to me. I could sense how proud they are of their restaurant and while i am not an expert on these cuisines, the food seemed to be "authentic" and cooked with love. I thought the sushi was especially delicious. I used to live in San Francisco and I have been spoiled by high quality sushi, and I thought that Mandala's was right up there with some of the best I have ever had. I know it is hard to for restaurants to succeed and I REALLY hope that this one does! I am getting hungry just thinking about my next trip there!! I was surprised that one reviewer said that he thought that these reviews were fake or paid for, definitely not the case -- this is the real deal. read more
