I can't believe I got charged $104 for food for 4 people and 2 little kids. This was take out and the kids only ate rice. Portion were super small and not very tasty at all. The curry chicken had maybe four small cubes of overcooked chicken and the rest a very watery flavorless broth. Broccoli beef was of but hella small portion.cant believe the rave reviews. We went to Mandala last weekend with our dear friends who live in Ojai. We're so glad they recommended this wonderful restaurant. The food was delicious, the service perfect and it was obvious to us that this amazing dishes were prepared and served with LOVE! Everything was very authentic and the options were perfect for every taste. I noticed the menu on line is very limited, but when you get there it is vast and we were all very delighted with our choices. Highly recommend Mandala in every way. We had an AMAZING experience at Mandala. The staff was so kind & welcoming. The food was incredible. They educated us on Tibetan food - our 6 & 10 year olds found tasty choices too. We had the homemade momos (OMG!!!), sashimi, and Tibetan chowmein. Everyone loved their dish. The owner even lent our budding Buddhist a book! They have fantastic gift shop too. I have been to the amazing restaurant 6 times since they just opened a few months ago. The Indian, Tibetan and Japanese food is excellent. This is authentic Indian and the fact that they get most of their produce locally, fresh from our farmers market makes it super fresh. I have had the chow mein, both beef and chicken, the momos, the chili beef, the chili chicken, a few different sushi rolls, the fried rice with chicken and the gobi aloo. All perfect. They have a really good, fairly priced wine list. I dont drink beer, but this offering is also quite extensive. read more

We found this place through Yelp & walked in for a late lunch. We were in for a treat with the simple yet delicious food. The owner, Doorji, chatted with us for a long time & the server too was very sweet. We got Veg Momos & a Tibetan soup, both were fresh & full of flavor. Folks, do try out this place. This is a place that tries to be all things - Indian, Thai, Japanese. The first thing you smell when you walk in is old grease - and you'll understand why when you taste the food. Food was definitely below par - there are so many other authentic restaurants around. Service was ok. Prices are low, so maybe that's the attraction. read more

The Lemon Tree Roll was delicious and unique, my husband said that the broccoli beef was one of the best he had, my kids loved their meals, and we all liked the seaweed salad. It is a really nice family owned business that is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. read more

Last time I was here we ordered the fish curry.. it was excellent... we came back for it and both ordered it the other day and it was ok.. didn't taste as good as last time.. but was ok...till we both were sick all night.:..I'll spare the details... but there was something really wrong with it. I had a truly alarming experience here at lunch last week. First time to go there. DON'T ORDER THE TIBETAN/INDIAN DISHES!! The "tibetan" (or "indian") dishes are so far from a typical curry/dal that they really can't be called indian. The Aloo Gobi was stewed in chicken broth (ick!) kind of like a soup; the 'chicken curry" actually defies description. I did like the gingery salad dressing! My lunch companion summed it up neatly: "the worst meal I think I have ever had". read more

The food here is made with care and you can taste it. It didn't matter if we were having to vegan, asian, or Tibetan food it was all good. I brought my family here when they first opened, and we been coming back at least once a week ever since. I wish I had pictures to share with you, and I will post later I promise. The food is so good, we end up digging in before anybody gets chance to take a pic. We like the Tibetan food as most of it can be made vegan. My hubby like the chili chicken, and I can't get enough of the combination garlicky and spicy edemame. The owners are lovely people, both of them actually are from Tibet! The waitstaff are very accommodating in Whether you're passing through town visiting, or live here, you need to come to this place: sitdown relax and enjoy. Had take-out, ordering the dried chile tofu, Tibetan Thukpa soup, vegetables w garlic sauce, and Tibetan chow mien noodles w tofu. Dried chile tofu was swimming in sauce and tofu was simply cut up and heated, soup was bland and oily, vegetables w garlic sauce and chow mien were bland and even looked unappetizing, Extremely disappointed. I can easily make better Asian food at home. Have no idea how this place gets rated this high. Maybe I ordered the wrong dishes and they were having a bad night(?). read more

After a long hike we were in the ojai area looking for some good sushi . Luckily we stumbled upon this little gym . The service was amazing . They were closing at 3 we showed up at 2:58 and were encouraged to stay and not to rush . The guy was so nice waited for us and everything . The food was great too I really enjoyed it . This was our second time at Mandala and once again our service was excellent the food was great and we greatly enjoyed ourselves. To start we had the vegetable pakora, it was excellent. Our group had some Indian, some Tibetan, as well as some sushi. I particularly enjoyed the Tibetan and Indian cuisine. I had the chili chicken which was quite spicy, but dang good. My mom had the beef curry which has excellent flavor. Someone in our party had the sweet and sour pork, it came in a broth which was unexpected but we all really enjoyed it. Taken together I thought all food was great and had some different flavored than I'm used to eating in this valley. I'll definitely be going back. read more

This is NOT a paid review! I ate here with local friends Sept 21 and it was delicious AND the service was excellent. The mushroom cake appetizers were wonderful and so artistically presented. We shared various plates - dal, nan, oysters, and all were quality. Spices were just right. Our servers were attentive and pleasant and I think the prices are very fair for such beautifully presented and delicious food. We also enjoyed speaking with the owners. The decor is lovely and it's quiet enough for good conversation. I highly recommend Mandala! read more
