My husband and I drove up from Morgan Hill to try Mandarin House and it didn't not disappoint. The restaurant is in a corner of the strip mall between Blossom Hill, Kooser and Meridian. It is on the Blossom Hill side. The restaurant has about ten tables and does a brisk take out business. The server was friendly and attentive. We ordered three dishes: seafood clay pot, shrimp fried rice and crab puffs. All arrived quickly and each one was delicious. The seafood clay pot had generous portions of scallops, shrimp, squid, fried tofu and vegetables in an oyster sauce. Plenty to share with some left over. The fried rice was light and tasty and the crab puffs were perfect. We now have a new go to Chinese restaurant when we are in South San Jose. read more

This is my family's go-to Chinese takeout spot in the area. While we've only ever ordered their food over the phone for pickup, they also have tables inside for dining in. I've enjoyed all their dishes I've tried over the years, though my favorites are the sesame beef/chicken, moo shu pork, and mei fun noodles. If you've never had mei fun, the noodles are thinner than the ones used for chow mein and chow fun. They also have non-meat options available on the menu with tofu and veggies. So it can be confusing, having two Chinese restaurants, beginning with the word, "Mandarin" in their names. We tried Mandarin Gourmet first, and the next day we tried Mandarin House. Mandarin House won the battle of the Mandarins! Super delicious, affordable, and a really nice chill atmosphere. I had the Moo goo gai pan, and my beautiful wife enjoyed the Sweet and Sour Chicken. Both top notch dishes, and with the bill being so cheap, it makes the lunch specials super affordable! Great service, and honestly I think we found our favorite Chinese spot in this area. I stopped by to order some takeout dinner, it's a place easy to miss, next to a Senior Taco Mexican Food. The restaurant has a very small storefront, but I am always looking for a nice restaurant to try out. I came right before it closed in the early afternoon. It's definitely a place that I can take my mom to try out a lunch special. It's a small place in terms of tables, but they do have one round table that can seat about six people, the other tables seat two to four people. There is plenty of parking, near Kooser and Blossom Hill Road in San Jose. THEY HAVE GLUTEN FREE OPTIONS. To all my fellow gluten-sensitive/free people, they have a bunch of options. They can make pretty much anything breaded with cornstarch, and it is FANTASTIC. I had decently good Americanized Chinese meal here. It's a bit pricey for what you get though so I would only come back if it was my only option. I ordered vegetable fried rice, large wor won ton soup, and beef chow fun. This was ~$51. The fried rice was good, although pricey. Considering the ingredients and, you know, that it's mostly rice, I wouldn't get it again. Just too much for some vegetables and rice. Good but you can make this at home. The won ton soup was not successful. First, the broth was near flavorless. I did not appreciate that. Second, there were 4 shrimp. Literally. 4. They say it serves 4 people, so everyone gets 1 shrimp. That's just hilarious. I would rather have no shrimp (and no broccoli) and extra won tons. This was just not worth it. The beef chow fun was really good. Very tender noodles and good flavor. Perhaps a smidge more soy sauce would help but I do like my chow fun on the salty side, so I'll forgive them. This was the best dish of all 3. Overall, not bad, but too pricey. If you want Americanized Chinese food and this is your only option it's ok. Parking can be tricky during peak times as it's in a popular strip mall. And they take credit cards. read more

We ordered: Spare ribs - 3/5 - these were huge pieces of ribs that were red in color clearly food color added.
