Ordered the specialty rolls and all were a hit from the 49ers and Giants roll (nod to local sports teams!) and unagi lover (there's two and I can't remember which one we ordered), orange blossom and a few others. The fish is fresh and the portions are generous. A 1.5 was perfect for each of us. the owner is a friendly as well. A craving for sushi a little later in the night led us to Bamboo Fish for a nice Saturday night date. The area inside is cozy and warm but I was really surprised by how high the ceilings are, didn't really affect my dining experience but I found it interesting. The service was prompt and friendly, our orders came quite quickly which was very nice considering how hungry we were. To start we ordered a Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna and Salmon Sashimi appetizer. The salmon was very high quality and came with 6 pretty thick pieces (had a couple before taking the picture). The crispy rice dish was also very good, maybe I would've preferred a little more sauce for the rice to soak up as it was a bit of a mouthful, but the flavor and texture were good. The rolls we ordered were the SF Giants, 49ers, and the Titanic, all of which were very well made with healthy portions of fish and good flavor. As to pricing, sushi is getting noticeably expensive and that is especially true of getting sushi in South San Jose. There may be no getting around that anymore and while I wasn't completely floored by the bill, it definitely made me remember why I'm not getting sushi everyday! However Bamboo Fish is a perfect neighborhood sushi spot with good quality and fresh ingredients, and I would love to come back. read more

So this could have been a 5 Star Yelp review. But downgrading due to the lack of service on a Friday night. I blame management, and in this case, it could just be a family owned and run business. We only had to wait 10minutes to get a table so that was good. However, the hostess taking our order was so flustered as she was the only one that was taking orders with a packed house! There were two other boys that were either cleaning the tables and seating people but not sure if they were trained to take orders. We had two friends join us spur of the moment that evening so we had a great time. No rush by the restaurant to move on. We stayed there for over 1.5hours. Not really because we wanted to, but it seemed it took a very long time to make the sushi rolls. And we had to keep tracking down our hostess to get some of the items that we ordered. So now for the good stuff. The taste of almost every roll was phenomenal. The only one I didn't like was the Slow Burn Roll, which had an interesting texture to it and no burn to it. But the other rolls and the Sashimi platter were excellent. The crispy rice with spicy tuna was to die for! One of the few places that I have been to that actually serve this. I honestly don't think you can go wrong with any of the rolls on the menu. Total bill for 4 people ended up around $170 including 2 beers and hot tea. We were not even asked if we wanted dessert nor did we want to stay any longer. But it was great to watch the Warriors game that was on while we ate. A very cozy restaurant and the locals know this has great food. I hope the owners take note of this and at least get someone else who can wait tables. read more

Great Sushi place! We loved the Poke Nachos! They had tons of tuna on wontons with avocado, and spicy dressy. The Sashimi Appetizer Combo was tasty with 8 slices of different Sashimi. We also had the Nabeyaki Udon which was so good! Large amounts of noodles, chicken, veggies and one shrimp tempura. I would have loved one more shrimp :-) They have a ton of rolls to pick from on their menu and bento boxes. Prices were average and tons of seating. The service was quick and a TV on to watch the game. Tons of parking out front. We will be back! read more

Our favorite sushi spot. My wife and I came here on Friday night and this place was quickly packed. Service was fast and top notch as always. My favorite roll called the SJ Earthquakes is no longer on the regular menu, but it is on the daily specials menu. My family and I have been going to this establishment for many many years and it just sucks seeing this place go so downhill. First off, their food is way too overpriced for how much you are served as well as the quality given. Most of the time the sushi rolls aren't completely rolled all the way which then brakes when picking it up (takeout or even when seated) and when we do order the dinner options like for example the chicken teriyaki dinner, it ultimately falls short of good flavoring. Also the teriyaki sauce on top feels more like liquid than saucy. The service is so so, wouldn't say it's bad but the last time I was here, I ordered a couple of rolls to go for a family member and exactly 1 minute after the young server left I called her back bc I made an mistake on the order which is my fault but her reaction to me asking if she can switch it before they make started making it was extremely unprofessional. When asked she basically rolled her eyes at us, smacked her hands down to her apron and walked away (that was her yes btw since the order got switched). Idk I just thought it was pretty disrespectful and she should've communicated a yes or no. Was totally fine if they already started and couldn't change it but acting like that to customers is just confusing and frustrating. She stared at me and I had to take initiative and ask if I can see a menu. There are plastic clear screens setup as barriers which is good and hand sanitizer available at the counter. PAPER PLATES & MICROWAVED EDAMAME... If you want ALL the red flags read on This was such a disappointing experience. The bottom line, this was a POOR quality restaurant. I'll admit, the staff was great! You could tell they were short handed and everyone was working hard. They were kind and friendly. Everything looked great when we first entered. At first glance, this place looks super trendy with their fun lighting & Japanese decor. Once you're seated however, you'll noticed all the tables were covered in paper table cloth. Dollar tree paper table cloth. And the appetizer plates were also paper!! PAPER?! Really?! That was red flag #1. Next we ordered and my partner noticed that a waiter was pulling out something from a microwave in the kitchen (due to them leaving the back curtain open). Then a few minutes later when the edamame was brought to our table he could tell it was frozen! We immediately send it back and let them know it doesn't taste right. Their manager follows up with us to ask if everything was ok and we tell her it tasted frozen. What does she do? Goes back to the kitchen and my partner watches her pick up the bowl, stick it in the microwave, and a few minutes later... what do you know?! Another bowl of frozen microwaved edamame!! If you don't see a problem with that at a restaurant, you're the problem. Red flag #3 the sushi fell apart on us all night because they either used low grade rice or old rice. OH and the kappa maki had regular cucumber in it instead of kyuri (Japanese cucumber) Who knows if the fish was fresh? If we get food poisoning I'll update you... Overall, you're a RESTAURANT in a time where people are excited to be dining in again. Don't serve gyoza and other dishes on paper plates! Don't serve microwaved food, and if you do be smart enough to cover up the back room. Just do better please. And if you're a diner who doesn't mind a tacky and frankly cheap dinner experience then enjoy the food. We hope you have a better dinner there than we did. Update 3/27/2022 My partner did get food poisoning yesterday, the morning after we had eaten there. The only reason I was ok because I took a few bites of my sushi and did not finish it. I have an allergy to soy so I asked for no unagi which was questioned by the waitress including me having to zoom into the roll picture to show her the sauce that I didn't want on it. I asked to add on avocado outside (which was a menu option on their QR code) for 3 or 4 dollars and substitute shrimp for the salmon. Bamboo Fish has delicious Japanese food and good service. We came here for lunch, and it was fairly quiet. There were a few booths and lots of regular tables. It was great to see bento options for lunch. I ordered the 2 item lunch bento, and I chose salmon teriyaki and CA roll. The food came out fairly quick. Everything tasted great. Honestly every neighborhood needs a solid Japanese place and this is it for Almaden. Know that when you go during prime dinner time that you will need to wait a full hour but the service is always so nice that you don't mind. My family loves the udon noodle soup, the various vegetarian sushi including the Yammy yam. The tempura is solid. Agedashi tofu is better in person. My husband loves the MIA and dragon rolls best. It's a solid to go place, everything is packaged with care but it's always more fun to eat there. read more

We have been ordering from Bamboo Fish during Covid since it's been convenient for us and wanted to support small local businesses in our area. I called today to place an order and apparently my number was flagged. The girl who picked up the phone put the "owner" on and she immediately tells me that she sees that there has been 3 incidents where I have complained. Well, she wrongly accused me of that as there were only 2 incidents (not 3), and the first time was because they screwed up my order. I ordered shrimp tempura HAND rolls but when I got home, I opened up the box to find regular shrimp tempura rolls. So yes, I called them to let them know they gave us the incorrect items. I didn't ask for a refund or anything but just wanted to give them feedback. The guy who answered was nice enough to give us a credit. The next time I ordered I used my credit to order a salmon entree, but when I got home and opened up the box, I noticed a black piece of hair on the orange wedge (which you can clearly see from the picture). Again, I called them to give this feedback because I pretty much lost my appetite and didn't want this to happen to other customers. This time, the guy who I spoke to was basically just like "oh well". I ignored it and just threw the orange slice away. So, when calling tonight to place another to-go order, rather than the owner being thankful for people like me who keep coming back to support their business, she confronted me about my previous calls and tells me, "maybe you shouldn't order from us any more." I was very shocked. First of all, she obviously does not care about her supporters because the moment we had the first incident, she could have called me herself to straighten things out amicably. But, for her to attack me on our very first direct conversation is not only absurd but rude. She then tells me that the black strand is not really hair and that it's a fiber from the box. Fiber, hair, whatever it was, it was off-putting enough to impact my appetite, so isn't it very possible this is happening to others?? Why would she be so offended by that, why not focus her energy on making sure there's no hair/fibers on her customers food instead of trying to make me feel guilty for calling them out on it. At the end of the day, this is not how you treat your customers, let alone during a pandemic who are looking for reliable, honest and respectful places to bring their business. There are several other Japanese food options in the area, so that's where I'll be bringing my family's weekly business. Hope this helps others avoid a dramatic phone confrontation from the rude owner and/or an order that is wrong with black foreign "objects" in it. read more

A hidden gem in Almaden with excellent customer service. When you walk in and get seated the ambience is mellow, not too fancy but has ample seating for a nice sit down meal. I usually get it to go as we live down the street. Their Poke Nacho's are some of the best I've tried, with a slightly sweet sauce to accompany the tuna while giving you just a little kick of heat with some jalapeños. We usually order The Volcano (spicy), Mango Mania, 49ers and Crunch. They are all different from each other and you get a different flavor with each one. I came on a Thursday evening and the restaurant was fairly empty around 6 p.m.. I ordered a Salmon Sashimi dinner meal and my friend ordered the Chef's Sashimi dinner. All the sashimi was very fresh and the portions were reasonable for the price as well. The meals came with miso soup, a house salad and rice. The server was attentive and refilled our drinks without us having to flag them down. The restaurant is spacious, clean, and has a more modern vibe than other sushi restaurants. Horrible experience - went in with a reservation through Google Assistant (that was set/reserved multiple days in advance). When we walked in, we basically got turned away with the owner shouting from the bar saying that they 'don't take reservations through anything other than the phone' despite me showing them my confirmation email AND text. The whole restaurant was staring and was incredibly embarrassing for all parties involved. As a result, we walked across the street to the Mexican restaurant where we were treated incredibly well and not yelled at. Disappointing and horrible service and management. Oh goodness we just had the perfect takeout experience!! Placing the order was super easy, we just placed online but then picked up in person and the order was packaged by then wonderfully. All do the sushi's were neatly organized and I liked that they labeled the roll names on top because I often forget what I order (which I have not experienced with other sushi takeout orders). I am currently not eating fish. Well, why are you going to order from a sushi restaurant you might ask!? Because the heart wants what it wants! But also because I love sushi and crave it all the time and don't like having one of the main ingredients get in my way. We ordered basically all of their veggie rolls and wow! so so good. I have yet to stumble upon a sushi place in the South Bay that has such extensive veggie sushi options and all of them made with such flavor. Something has changed... employees, management, ownership and or the quality of their food. I used to rave about bamboo fish and it was definitely a go to for me. Recently, I ordered food through a delivery service, the restaurant messed up on the order (did not include an entree) when I called them they asked me to contact GrubHub for a refund. I didn't want a refund, I just wanted my order... anyways, I drove to pick up annoyed because I had already paid for delivery. I finally arrived back at home and began eating my meal immediately something was different compared the the handful of times I ordered from them.
