My family and I ate dinner here for my mom's birthday and the waiter was nice at first and then after a while it felt like she got upset when we would ask her for things. We were still eating and she went ahead and tried clearing the table. Towards the end we were opening my mom's gifts and she came and reached her arm across us where it would literally touch us to get the water glasses. My brother got up to use the rest room and she even removed his chair to put it away. There was another table still eating and she didn't even put anything away from them. Ordered the orange flavor chicken, Kung Pao chicken, Szechwan beef, vegetable chow mein and egg rolls. The food was delivered hot and fresh. The egg rolls were nice and crispy and went great with the sweet and sour sauce. The Szechwan beef was tender and flavorful but not very spicy. The chicken dishes were very good but I generally prefer orange flavor chicken that is a bit crispy. All in all very satisfied with the meal and would order again using Door Dash. read more

I want to start this one star review with a highlight, THE FOOD IS ACTUALLY REALLY GOOD! So why the one star review you might wonder, the big issue is my wife is allergic to nuts with different nut varieties being more severe than others. So we called ahead before we ordered our take out to see if they cooked with peanut oil or had nuts in their food and they confidently confirmed they didn't and only cook with soy, which we were thrilled for since my wife's nut allergy keeps her from so many wonderful restaurants. Well we can confidently say after the fact that she had a allergic reaction to their food and we were very upset that they told us there were no nuts when they in fact had some cross contamination or something to trigger a reaction. I do want to leave this review on a high note though, everyone here is extremely nice and they have such a great atmosphere. I made reservations through Aaron to celebrate our 10th anniversary at Mandarin King. We have a bit of history as this was not our first time dining here for our annual Laguna vacation (either our January anniversary or Vday). Aaron is outstanding and he took very good care of us. Our meal was delicious and I highly recommend the following: House Special chicken (ask to add veggies...yumm), sizzling 3 flavor rice soup, egg flower soup, paper wrapped chicken, cream cheese wontons, mongolian beef, beef and broccoli, garlic chicken, walnut shrimp, eggrolls (perfect crunch and not greasy), and the most delicious scallop dish I have ever had at a chinese restaurant... SCALLOPS WITH HOT GARLIC SAUCE! You must try this dish.. I want more...now! We have never done takeout so I can't comment on the viability of any of these dishes if you don't eat then hot and fresh. The appetizers were super delicious. Very flavorful without being overly greasy or saucy. I was not a fan of the egg flower soup. Moo shu pork and sweet n sour chicken were solid. It is so hard to find a good Chinese food place in Orange County. Came here Saturday for lunch... arrived around 11:30am, but they dont open until noon. There isnt much to walk around and look at in this part of Laguna Beach, as it is not close to main beach. We mostly just sat outside and waited for them to open, haha. I ordered the lunch special, with Orange Peel Chicken. The lunch came with soup, an appetizer plate with a chicken wing, small salad, and fried wonton. The soup was egg drop, and it tasted like smoky bacon. Totally didnt expect that. I added some soy sauce, like I always do to egg drop soup, but it didnt change the flavor. The fried wonton was good, but needed some sweet and sour sauce, or something to dip it in. The chicken wing was not my favorite, it was a little dry, and could have also used some sauce. I loved the salad, I love the dressing on salads in Chinese restaurants. The Orange Peel Chicken was decent, also not my favorite. It also had a smoky flavor to it. It didnt seem like your typical Orange Chicken. I tried to Mongolian Beef as well... the meat was tender, but also smoky. I dont like a smoky flavor with Chinese food, so this definitely wasnt my favorite restaurant, and my search for that perfect Chinese food in Orange County continues. The service was friendly, but slightly lacking. I was out of water for most of the visit. I asked a few times for a refill. Getting the check took a long time... Last night my family and I ordered house special chow mein, vegetable egg foo young, and vegetable mu shu. The sauce with the egg foo young is so flavorful, and it came with a lot of veggies. The chow mein has a good amount of protein and veggies - it was a bit cold but still good. The Honey Walnut Shrimps is very good, and Mandarin King is quite generous with the walnuts, not just the shrimps, unlike most restaurant around my area, which includes Irvine, Dana Point, Laguna Hills, etc. It is dinner time, and the Orange Peel Beef looks like someone's lunch left-over. Clumpy is an understatement, as you can see from the uploaded picture. Yes, it is one of those dishes you should NEVER order at this Chinese restaurant for take-out, especially when you live about eight miles away. They should name this dish something else, for it lacks the definitive crispiness, but if you insist to have a taste, I suggest to eat it there, assuming that the clumpiness is due to travel time to get home. On the other hand, the flavor is surprisingly tasty with just the right amount of vinegar not to overpower the dried orange peel, scallions and dried peppers, but...ALWAYS listen to your friend when Curry Beef (with sauce!) enters the conversation before you call to order. A lesson learned. Miraculously enough, the Pot Stickers are not stuck together. Rejoice! The dipping sauce is amazing, and I will overlook the lack of stuffing. The free rice is heavy. We all love sticky rice, but NOT with Jasmine, if you catch my drift. But since it is free, relatively speaking, it does not affect my rating, to be fair. The friendly and courteous cashier/owner(?) lady gets a star, of course. My 3-star rating means I will skip Mandarin King for a very long time, like years!, since this area is teeming with Chinese/Asian food, practically bouncing off the walls for my dollar, in case you hadn't noticed. read more

This spot is family-owned and especially loved by locals. Priscilla, one of the owners, knows a lot of us regulars by name and our orders. Everyone who approaches the takeout window is super friendly and has a community feel. I am vegan and order tofu with mushrooms, while the rest of my family orders white chicken and broccoli. Food is flavorful, takes so fresh and light. I can finish the full meal and not feel "heavy" / sleepy afterwards. They have been super careful & safe throughout the COVID restrictions period by offering take-out with sanitized pens at the checkout. Can't wait til things go back to normal and we can dine-in again! It's immaculately clean and cozy inside. The location is easy to get to (right on the PCH) and practically on the ocean. The food was good and not super greasy or junky. I liked the cream cheese wontons the best and the orange chicken. Unfortunately I experienced a hate crime while waiting outside. This was no fault of the restaurant, but waiting outside for the food to be done made me a target to an ignorant passerby in a car rolling down his window and he yelled a racial slur to me. Again the restaurant had no control of this but I just wanted to warn minorities in laguna beach to be careful. I wish the take out system was a bit more efficient so I wouldn't have to wait outside the restaurant on the sidewalk.
