Great delivery Chinese! I decided to get delivery from a new Chinese place, and Mandarin Palace fit the bill. They menu has all the Chinese favorites from Lo mein to General Tso chicken. We ordered a few orders of steamed pork dumpings, beef lo mein, general Tso Chicken and a shimp and lobster sauce combo. All total, the bill was $43, great deal! The lo mein was perfect, had large chunks of beef and plenty of veggies. The General tso chicken was flavorful, not overcooked and the portion was very large. The dumplings were perfectly steamed. Cannot say enough GREAT things about Mandarin Palace. The food is always on point. I've had delivery, take out, and dine in - it doesn't matter, its always on point. They even provide individual folded napkins with plastic silverware in the takeout bag. The take out bags are neat and orderly. Dine is the service is fast and attentive. I ordered take out on Saturday night. An hour and a half goes by and they still have not delivered my food. I get a call back saying they tried calling me and left my food on top of my door. Obviously it's the city and would have got stolen if it was the case! They refused to deliver new food or refund me. They could have rang the doorbell! AVOID! This is the first time I've eaten here for a lunch take out: sweet and sour shrimp with hot and sour soup and eggroll (all for $7 including tax--cheap if it weren't absolutely terrible!) HOT & SOUR SOUP I never got to try this because, upon arriving home, I realized that they gave me their version of wonton soup: yellow liquid (yes, it was actually yellow colored) that tasted slightly salty, otherwise with no flavor, and two thick pieces of dough (the "wonton"). EGGROLL It was deep fried, thick flour skin and filled ONLY with shredded cabbage. That's it. There was no sauce for it. SWEET & SOUR SHRIMP 4 pieces of large deep fried dough with 1/2 (they actually split each lengthwise) small sized shrimp inside. FRIED RICE Rice sauteed in oil and soy sauce. No flavor, VERY oily and with some pieces of veggies precut (the frozen kind). The greasiness of this lunch and the lack of anything but carb (rice, flour, moredeep friend flour) and oil rendered it inedible to me. This place is by far the best sushi in philly. Although deceptive in name and appearance, behind the chinese restaurant facade is a sushi bar that puts out the freshest fish and most unbelievable rolls in town. beyond that the price is a fraction of what you pay at Zama and the like. Since discovering the sushi here I've been back at least weekly. the staff is friendly, warm and provides excellent service. I have to be honest, my girlfriend and I only came here when we couldn't get into crazy sushi next door and I could not be more pleased that we ended up in Mandarin Palace. Immediately after entering we were given a table and they opened our wine bottle (BYOB!!) and gave us crispy wontons while we perused the menu. We only ordered the sushi so that is all I can comment on, but next to Zama and Morimoto it is the best sushi in Philadelphia and for less then half the price. The presentation was awesome and the quality of the fish was as good as it gets. The people working there really seem to care about the product they deliver. We had a quick chat with the sushi chef after our meal and found out that the restaurant was recently renovated and given a fresh menu/ambiance. Yum!! I wanted sushi, the boyfriend wanted Chinese...not many places meet that criteria AND deliver to Fairmount. This place fit the bill so we gave it a shot. About 25 min after the order they were at our house for delivery. The spicy tuna roll was very good as was the basil shrimp fried rice...a very nice "southern" twist on an old standard!! My picky eater boyfriend gave rave reviews to his chicken lo mein. While this doesn't sound like much, in 1.5 years I have not heard him compliment a lo mein before. I don't know why I don't like this place more. The vegetables seem fresh, the service is always fast and their General Tso's is consistently good. I don't really like how they make their eggplant in garlic sauce (it's a weird light brown/green sauce) but it's decent. The dumplings are yummy (they're not the typical Chinese takeout, extremely doughy with salty dark red mystery meat inside) and they give you a sizeable portion (I think there were at least 6 large dumplings). Maybe it's because it always feels like a ghost town in there and the food just stops short of being really tasty. I think the portion sizes are ok--not too big and not too small. As some of the other reviewers say, this place is your standard take out joint that just has a big seating area. For lunch, the prices are good but I think the prices for dinner are a bit high. Mandarin Palace is one of the best sushi restaurants in Center City. I go 2-4 times a month - sometimes more - during lunch or for an early dinner. The sushi is outstanding - they always use the freshest fish and create beautiful dishes! The staff are quick, efficient and friendly - especially the sushi chef, Leo. This is our go to place for Asian/Chinese delivery. Some notables are the Malaysian fried rice, the gyoza, the lo Leon, the sushi is not bad, and the steamed pork dumplings are solid. The only thing that I've had better are the soups. The won ton soup is nothing special and the lemon grass soup is just strange. It's red in color and kind of thick. I've ordered it a few times forgetting what it was, basically assuming it would be more like a Thai lemongrass soup, and it isn't. Mandarin palace has a wide variety of Asian items from Chinese, to Japanese, to Thai and they do most of them well, which I think must be hard to do with such a big menu. Just enjoyed a great delivery meal. Took about an hour to get to the house, which is a little longer than normal but was worth the wait. Ordered the spring rolls and they were very tasty, not too crunchy and not too soft. Perfect balance. Main meal was the general tso combo with fried rice. Delicious. Beware when using groupon for this restaurant. I bought a $20 voucher for $10 off groupon and went to this establishment for dinner. We got 3 rolls which were nothing special and proceeded to try and pay/redeem my voucher. The waiter then pointed to a small hand written sign on the wall which states that there's a 3 roll sushi special and that the groupon doesn't apply to specials. This was an obvious attempt for the restaurant to get out of honoring the groupon. Nowhere on the menu does it say anything about a "3 roll special" and if you're not sitting at the sushi bar you will not notice the sign. I was very angry about this and the quality of the food. I'm a fan of your standard Chinese fare, and Mandarin Palace is a great option for those craving some Moo Shu Pork with a side of fried rice. NOTE: this is no gourmet Chinese food, it's just standard take-out style in a folded white box. I've ordered delivery, and eaten in, and I highly suggest delivery over physically dining at Mandarin Palace. The locale lacks in the ambiance and service factor, and their bathrooms are ghastly. Onto the food. The Moo Shu Pork is actually pretty good (3/5 stars) nothing out of this world, but did give me heartburn which for me is a sign of cheap chinese food. The Mongolian Beef (2/5 stars) leaves -much- to be desired. The sauce is thin and tasteless, and the beef seems boiled or something... I like my beef seared and sizzling. The fried rice is well, rice. At least it's not yellow, I have a thing against yellow fried rice. Prices are also higher than the cheap Chinese joints in my neighborhood, so that's a minus.. then again the food is tastier than in the cheaper restaurants... I suppose I continue to frequent Mandarin because I haven't found a tasty and dependable Chinese restaurant yet. read more

I ordered sushi from here and was pleasantly surprised. They delivered the food in about 45 minutes. The yellow tail with jalapeno sashimi tasted really fresh and was delicious as were many of the other rolls we got. My favorites were the spider king roll and the spicy tuna. The seaweed salad was also pretty sizeable. The menu seems pretty expansive as they have a lot of Chinese and Thai options as well. I will definitely be trying this place again. read more

They never offered any compensation for their wrong doing and I am repeatedly being lied to. It seem now that it is intentional that they keep messing up most of my orders. It's a shame that Mandarin Palace looks just like any mediocre Chinese restaurant, because it really is not. From the service to the quality of the food to the perfectly cheesy decor, it's the best Chinese restaurant outside of Chinatown. As soon as you sit down the server brings freshly fried noodles and house made duck sauce along with a pot of tea. The dumplings are really great, not the kind with the too-thick skin and almost no meat. I love their ho fun, the noodles are exactly the right balance of tender and chewy. I ordered take out and they arrived sooner than expected, which was nice. Unfortunately the food was not that good. I ordered the general tso's salmon and shrimp tempura roll. The salmon was more fishy than salmon usually is. It made the dish I appealing after I ate a few bites. The tso sauce was good though, so I would order chicken instead. The shrimp roll frustrated me because they added in fish eggs and eel sauce. I know this is common in sushi, but the menu doesn't say that those ingredients are added. It also contained avocado and cucumber, which I didn't mind. I just expect that the shrimp tempura roll be just the shrimp, unless otherwise specified. I wouldn't have ordered it if I had known.
