The service was excellent! The food was DELICIOUS!! The restaurant was very clean, nice and quiet. I loved their decorations and how nothing appeared dusty. My family and I will definitely return!

Lunch special: gluten free sweet and sour chicken and gluten free Egg Rolls

Today is my birthday and it's also Lunar New Year so I wanted to celebrate at a Chinese restaurant. I'm from out of state and couldn't find a Chinese restaurant with gluten-free options that I liked, so I was disappointed until my husband found this place! They took excellent care of us as we celebrated and my whole meal was gluten free: egg drop soup, rice, egg roll, and sweet and sour chicken! I was so happy because I haven't had Chinese food since I went gluten-free 15 years ago for my health. This food was great and we were both happy with our meals!

This mom and pop shop serves up some super solid Chinese food! I got the Tung-An chicken which comes with a side of rice. The chicken was seasoned and comes with baby corn. It tastes great and the portion is massive so you'll have food to take home. The service was very quick and they were attentive when refilling water. The interior was decorated with care and added to the experience.

    Lemon chicken lunch

I ordered war won ton soup and lemon chicken lunch special to go. I brought the soup to a sick friend and had the lemon chicken for myself. My friend said the soup was delicious and helped her feel better. The lemon chicken was inedible. The chicken was sliced so thin and the breading was so thick that the chicken breast dried out to nothing. I threw it away. At least the soup was good.

Gluten free sesame chicken, cooked in a dedicated GF area with a crispy corn meal coating. So fresh and crispy and yummy sweet sauce!

Safe for gluten free folks! As someone with a gluten sensitivity, I at here safely and was reassured by the servers that they could cook my sesame chicken in a dedicated GF area and with corn meal instead of flour. The veggie spring rolls made with rice paper were gluten free and delicious. I haven't eaten gluten free Chinese food and felt this secure in the GF-ness of it all ever! I am in heaven :)

If you want no frills Americanize Chinese Food that's super tasty.. this is definitely the spot! Egg Foo Young was perfection. Egggy and tons of delicious bean sprouts. The fried rice was on point. Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings were coated and deep fried! Super crunchy and hot! Love the garlic pieces. Peking pork has a sweet and sour sauce that was delicious. Pan fried noodles had tons of meat and vegetables. The noodles were crunchy and I wasn't too fond of that but the sauce and meat were delicious. They even gave us some free white rice. Super nice of them. The inside is giving Chinatown realness! Artificial flowers in vases, lanterns, a young lady at the very front doing her home work. Chinese Lanterns! This is a place that is family owned and you can tell! They seem to have tons of take out but this place needs people inside. The vibes of this place is giving Shanghai vibes! Very 80's. Green carpets and booths! We will definitely be back.

Kieu (pronounced "Q") was welcoming and friendly as we entered the restaurant, smiling pleasantly and motioning for us to sit down. The restaurant was empty as we walked in, approaching 4:00 pm. Kieu brought us menus and brought us our drinks shortly afterwards. We decided on the specials they had where you order a select entree and it comes with a soup, a few appetizers, white or fried rice and your entree for $20.50 a person. I ordered Buddha's Feast and hubs ordered the shrimp with lobster sauce. The egg drop soup was fresh and hot, delicious! The appetizers were served about 5 minutes after the soup and hubs enjoyed his portions. I opted to wait for my entree as the portions there are generous. My entree was very flavorful, all vegetables cooked so they were still crispy, very fresh, the brown sauce was perfect. Hubs finished all of his entree and said his was quite tasty as well. If you're looking for a good Chinese meal I highly encourage you to come try this place. It's a great family friendly place and service, food is great! Come see for yourself! Say hi to Kieu!!

The last time I dined here was five years ago, I have not missed much. Very little English is spoken. I inquired as to this dish and that dish, to describe it to me; totally went over their collective heads, incredible. Lunch special is $11.00 to $12.50. Soup, an Entree, and an egg roll. FAST SERVICE, FRIENDLY STAFF. Decent parking, very clean. I'll return in another five years, maybe.

My sisters and I ate here last night for lunar new year! I enjoyed the food so much! I knew the food would be good as soon as I walked in because it was like your old school Chinese restaurant feel in there super authentic. I personally don't really care for the super over top aesthetic Chinese restaurants because most times the food isn't good. They're too focused on how cute the restaurant is versus how good the food is. Thankfully that wasn't the case here! The food was delicious and the service was great, the guy who I assume is the owner, he felt like your Chinese uncle or something lol. They were super sweet in there, and the food were a nice large portions and they were fairly priced. Definitely will be back!

Okay so hear me out. This review is not strictly based on the food. It is based on a lifetime of memories that this restaurant has given me and my family. I am 38 and I cannot remember a time in my life where this wasn't the chosen Chinese restaurant of my family. It is conveniently located in Clairemont. The restaurant is always clean. The food is what I measure all other family style American Chinese. The staff is always lovely. I now live in Florida and when I am in town, this is my go-to for American Chinese. Yes, I know it is not authentic Chinese. Yes, I am perfectly fine for that. If I want dim sum or soup dumplings I know where to go. But when I want a tasty egg roll, my favorite Kung Pao and egg flower soup, this is where I am going. I have searched far and wide for another Kung Pao like theirs and have never found it. I talked to an owner last time I was in and was actually given their secret ingredient since I told him I actually tried to replicate here in Florida. I promised to keep it a secret and I intend to honor that and die with that secret. I will always return here. I hope they never close (although everyone deserves to retire) I just selfishly don't want them to. I love that now we can bring my nephew and bring a fourth generation of our family here. I was so happy my nephew was actually wiling to try the Kung Pao last time and has been addicted to peanuts since. Thank you for my lifetime of memories!!!

    Do they take reservations?

When I called a few weeks ago they said I wouldn't need one. But when I got there, they only had half the seating open. Was very crowded, not worth it to eat off of paper plates from food out of cartons.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but our experience at Tasty Malatang Chinese Cuisine was…read moredisappointing because of the customer service. According to the restaurant's posted hours, they close at 10:00 PM. My family and I arrived around 9:15 PM, expecting that we still had enough time to order dinner. As soon as we walked in, the server immediately told us they were already closed. My mother politely pointed out that the posted closing time was 10:00 PM and simply asked if the kitchen happened to close earlier than the dining room. Instead of explaining the situation professionally, the server responded in a very rude tone: "Well, you guys can eat and order, but at 10:00 PM you need to be gone and out the door." Another employee then stepped in to back him up, making the interaction feel even more uncomfortable. I completely understand how the restaurant business works. I've been around the industry long enough to know that kitchens often stop taking orders before closing or that staff are trying to finish cleaning at the end of the night. If they had simply said, "We're sorry, but our kitchen is already closed," or even, "We can still serve you, but we're finishing up for the night," we would have completely understood. There was no reason to speak to us disrespectfully. What made this experience frustrating is that we never came in with an attitude or demanded special treatment. We were polite from the moment we walked through the door. We simply asked a reasonable question based on the restaurant's posted business hours, and instead of receiving a courteous explanation, we were met with unnecessary hostility. Customer service is just as important as the food. A welcoming attitude can make guests want to return, while a rude interaction can overshadow everything else. Unfortunately, this experience left such a negative impression that I won't be returning. I also would not feel comfortable bringing my family or recommending this restaurant to friends because everyone deserves to be treated with basic respect. I hope management takes this review as constructive feedback and reminds their staff that even when it's close to closing time, a little kindness and professionalism go a long way.

The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating, but the best tables are indoor. The other tables are on the street in the front so it can get a bit noisy, and there are flies. Our server was very polite and everything is family style so everything comes out as it is ready. That is nice sometimes but one issue we had was that we were a group of four and one person's two items did not come until well after everyone else had theirs so timing can be a bit tricky here. Aside from that the menu is not very large, but it does have a lot of great options on it. I chose the Beef & Broccoli and really enjoyed it. I tried many other dishes here from other people at the table and we all enjoyed ours as well. The portion sizes are a bit large so I think two per person is plenty. I was born and raised in LA, so I've had a lot of Chinese food growing up, and I wasn't expecting to be this surprised--but I really was. I ordered the black bean eggplant and the salt and pepper chicken wings. The wings are what they're known for, but I have to start with the eggplant because it completely caught me off guard. It wasn't mushy at all--crispy on the outside, perfectly cooked on the inside, and coated in sauce without losing its texture. Every bite had depth and balance, not just saltiness. I actually meant to start with the wings, but the eggplant was so good I ended up eating half of it before even getting to them. By that point I was already getting full, but I still made sure to finish the wings--and I'm honestly excited to take the rest of the eggplant home as leftovers. By the time I got to the wings, I understood why they're popular--crispy, flavorful, and super satisfying--but what stood out to me was how both dishes complemented each other. One rich and layered, the other crisp and bright. I never got tired of eating, which honestly says a lot. I even told the staff how much I enjoyed the food and they thought I was joking, but I meant every word in saying I thought it was comparable, if not better then the food I've had in Chinatown in LA. Finally, a second female server came and heard our concerns regarding the false advertisement and unclear messaging. She was able to provide us the price we thought this was for based on Menu selection. All in all - I don't recommend the AYCE option. I think it would be important to make a distinction that AYCE clearly on the menu and at the front - AYCE means each individual selects ONE entree (which is a one small portion) and the AYCE component of the deal is ONLY for the side buffet.

Nice use of mushrooms in this and the rice is nicely cooked. Get the sweet and sour fish fillet. Big portions and the fish is breaded but flakes nicely when you eat it. Get the salt and pepper chicken wings. FIRE. My cousin has a disability and I just want to thank the staff here for being so kind, patient and understanding to us as we had our meal. If I could give a hundred stars, I would. This place is a must go to for great Chinese food in San Diego.

The menu said the family meals were meant for parties of 8, but let me tell you. We ate until we were hurting and there was still a ton of leftovers. Those meals can easily serve a dozen people in my opinion which makes them even more of a great deal. If you've got a large party, this is a fantastic option to make sure everyone eats their fill. With that said, all the food was delicious. Hot and fresh from the kitchen, each dish with its own unique flavor and textures. We ran the gamut of flavors over our meal and it's hard to really point to one singular dish that was my favorite. After having almost 10 different dishes, I can confidently say that they will have something you will really enjoy. The restaurant itself is a bit no frills. But that's fine. They're putting their time in to food, not ambiance and I am totally down with that. Service is great. We were in a back corner, but we never felt ignored nor overly watched over. We were able to sit down and enjoy our meal at our own speed. My only 'gripe' with the restaurant is that the restroom is actually outside and shared with the other businesses in the complex. And that bathroom isn't the best maintained. I'm assuming that's up to the property management and not the restaurant (or other businesses) so I'm not dinging my review, but just keep that in mind. Might be best to try & hold it if you can. Ultimately, Golden Chopsticks really knocked it out of the park and caught me so off guard. I am so glad we came here on a bit of a whim. It was fantastic and I can't wait to go back.

The menu is so long it's almost overwhelming in the best way. The Walnut Honey Shrimp was addictive and my favorite dish! The shrimp was huge, fried perfectly, and the sauce was sweet. The beef rib noodle soup had a broth that tasted like it could heal your soul. The orange chicken was the perfect sweet and spicy protein! The house seafood chow mien was not good because the basil was overpowering and the noodles needed more sauce. They were too chewy and bland. The soup dumplings were the second best thing we ordered and they were a close second. The dumpling filling was literally bursting with flavor and made me forget everything wrong with my life. The pan fried bao buns had too much sesame for my taste personally, so I wasn't a fan. I'm letting all the bad stuff slide because of how delicious the honey walnut shrimp was 5/5 fasho
