Took my mom to Mandi House for Mother's Day and honestly... this was a huge win. My mom is extremely picky about food, service, freshness, atmosphere -- everything and even SHE loved it. That alone says a lot. The lamb mandi was unbelievably tender, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The rice had so much depth without feeling heavy, and the fried onions, raisins, almonds, and fresh lemon on top made every bite better. The fresh bread came out hot and soft, and the hummus was creamy and perfectly seasoned. Even the chicken was juicy and packed with flavor. What really made it special was how comforting and authentic everything felt. The portions were generous, the food came out fresh, and the whole table was quiet for a minute because everyone was too busy eating. That's how you know it's good. My mom kept saying "this is actually really good" which coming from her is basically a Michelin star review. Definitely one of the best Mother's Day dinners we've had. This place is truly living up to its hype. Almost disappointed in myself for taking so long to try out one of the few late night spots in the village but I'm damn glad I did!! The food is perfectly spiced without being too punchy and the portion sizes are unreal. We are obsessed with the mutabal and lamb haneeth and the XL flatbread that comes with it. We usually order an extra bc it's perfectly chewy even the next day. This easily makes for 2-3 meals for the two of us and is heavy in our rotation now. Service is a bit slow, mostly bc they seem to always have too few servers considering the size of the restaurant so we usually order take out instead. I brought my mom here for her birthday and we had an absolutely great time. It was very nice to be in an Arab setting and feeling almost at home. I requested to play music and they were very happy to put something on for us and the staff was very attentive very welcoming. I absolutely love my experience there. the food we ordered can honestly serve five or even six people. We had left over enough for two more meals. The food was absolutely delicious the lamb Mandi was our favorite. We also ordered some karak chai and it tasted very creamy and very warming. Great place for yemeni food. The portions are massive good food overall. We ordered the 5 person haneed with lamb and Mandi chicken and also the hrada with shrimpna. Both items were so delicious. The shrimp was cooked so well and it was the favorite dish of the group. The 5 person dish with a fully tender bone in lamb, lamb item and Mandi chicken was so delicious. It came with pilaf that includes raisins and tons for fried garlic and onions. Overall the food was really good. The Arabic coffee was also very good with large hints of cardamom. The staff was very nice and knowledgeable about the items we ordered and answered any questions we had. There is a sit-down without shoes section which adds to the experience. My goodness, what a spot. First, portions are HUGE. We ordered the grilled lamb, hummus, and a salad (Idr which one) but the portion size was big enough to feed 3-4 people. And this is coming from two people who know how to put away a large amount of food. Sat down immediately (though we did come on in on a holiday) and service was quick and friendly. They have those buttons that they use at Korean barbecue places at each table to call your server if needed. It seems like it would be a great place to host a large party because of the ample seating and the big portions. I highly recommend coming with a group because the portions are so big that you're only able to get a couple things, if you don't. The grilled lamb was cooked perfectly. Everything tasted so good together. The most memorable part was the milk tea, be sure to use the sweetener provided and it will truly elevate the drink. We also bought some black tea which came with a piece of mint and my gf got Ayran. - came in the bottle and they didn't offer a cup for it :( The desert was ok according to my gf who lived in the Middle East for several years and tasted an actual Kunafa. Service was a little disappointing for such a great place. I had to ask them to take our order as it took them very long to approach us, also they didn't take our plates away after we asked them to bring the to go boxes, even though they were empty. AND it was a slow Sunday night, with only like 10 tables total. Not much enjoyable interaction - maybe it's a culture thing as I've never been to a Middle Eastern place but this is America - so they have to step up a little bit to match their actual rating. We had many many great experiences eating at Anaheim House of Mandi and was thinking to have great experience eating at Mandi House LA. First off, noone greeted us, everyone seemed do not want to deal with us despite seeing us. So I decided to start convo with lady staff asking if we can sit by sunken table which rudely refused and asked us to sit on the regular table instead. So we sit and noone gives us the menu, till I have to go to cashier counter to grab one menu. Then the time we order, we called one of the guy (who seen cleaning the table multiple times), so he grabbed the ordering machine and seemed confused entering the menu, like seriously, if he wasn't able to take order why not asking someone to do it. Another hiccup happened when they only served us the grilled chicken, in fact we ordered the chicken w/ rice. We complained on this and the guy who served took the chicken right away and served the right order BUT the rice was hard, cold and there was no raisins at all! We asked for raisins and they asked 'you want EXTRA raisins'. How come he mentioned it extra when there is no existing raisins at all? We asked for gloves to numerous people and ended up one person gave us. I couldn't count how many flaws on first time experience! I visited Mandi House with a large group last week. Making a reservation was an absolute breeze, and we were super pleased with the booth we had in the back for a group of 12 people. No need to order food ahead of time with this size of group, which was pretty unbelievable! Please note that shoes will need to be taken off in order to dine in the booth area. We thoroughly enjoyed the No. 7 (mixed dishes of lamb head, lamb, chicken, and haneeth), as well as zahaouq, chapati, fattoush, and hummus. All were absolutely delicious. Despite our group size, we had a TON of leftover meat and rice! Every server was extremely kind, asked clarifying questions and made sure that we understood exactly what were ordering, and came quickly when we pressed a buzzer to get in touch with them. This was my first time here, and it certainly won't be the last! I'm especially excited to introduce my spouse (a vegetarian) to this incredible cuisine and lovely spot! read more

Tl;dr: get the lamb everything. No free water ($3), not even tap water. I really liked the lamb mandi, mutabbal, and of course the bigass bread. You can order from the lunch menu at dinner, no need to get a family order for a party of 2. The lamb falls apart and goes so well with the fluffy flavorful rice, golden raisins, fried onions, and nuts. I really like it by itself, but the bread becomes another carb vehicle that delivers the juicy lamb in a fantastic way. I salivate every time I think of this. The mutabbal is like a baba ghanoush for those that aren't familiar. It is smoky and nutty with a creamy-foward palate. The dressing they put on there made it distinct from typical baba ghanoush. Highly recommended with bigass bread. Hrada of seltah fell short of my recommended because it tasted like what you'd expect an okra soup to be. Granted if they put more of that whipped fenugreek (made the flavors pop) on top, I'd get it again. It's like a muted beef stew with not too much flavors, not that savory. For $23, get another dish unless I am just uncultured and not know how this is appreciated. I should've gotten the hrada of fahsah or the seltah mixed with fahsah. Anyways, decent with bigass bread. Karak tea comes with rock sugar candy, great palate cleanser after the meal. Rich black tea components aftertaste and milky mid taste. I have one big complaint, no free water. I get it that it's a Yemeni establishment, but if it's $20-50 per person...please let us just have a bottle water for free. I don't want to run across to Whole Foods just to quench my thirst because a bottle of Kirkland special water is $3 here. read more

As I tried to break the chicken apart, the bones crumbled into the rice, which made it difficult to eat. This is near UCLA. Street parking is free after 8pm. There is a parking structure behind the restaurant. Places opens till 12am or something. Not sure if they were serving buffet because of ramadan or if its regular but dine in was around 8.30ish. Floor seating or table seating depending on preference, will need to take off shoes if choosing the floor seating. Staff is friendly and happily answer any questions you may have. Do not be intimidated to try this place as the staff is really nice and all diversities can be seen enjoying their meals. The food is so worth it tbh. We ordered fatoush, mandi chicken, karak chai, mandi lamb and date fatta but it was good enough for 5 people. The chicken was well cooked and delicious. The salad (fatoush) was also really good. The desert was like cooked bread with dates topped with cream and honey and it was perfect. The lamb mandi was amazing. The lamb meat just fell off the bones and had this smokey taste which was just amazing. We also ordered karak chai and that tea hit well after the meal. Overall good vibes, amazing food and friendly staff. Oh they do add 15% tip to the bill for a party of 5 and above and they'll verbally let you know when you are paying the bill so transparent staff. Staff are nice and friendly but abit slow and needed to be called when ordering or maybe it was language barrier thing but overall the place is good with amazing food. We came here a few weeks ago and I completely forgot to write this review, but this was actually my second time at Mandi House--and just like the first time, it was amazing. We were a large group, so we ordered both the Lamb Mandi and the Chicken Mandi. Both were fall-off-the-bone tender and flavored to perfection, served with fluffy, aromatic rice. The bread is fresh-baked, warm, and absolutely delicious--especially paired with their hummus. Definitely try the Shafoot; it was incredibly tasty. The Fattoush is my favorite salad here--fresh, crisp, and perfectly balanced. For drinks, the Yemeni tea is delicious, but don't leave without trying the Karak tea--it's hands down the best you'll try. Also, get the Ayran yogurt drink; you won't regret it. The restaurant has a beautiful design and a very welcoming, friendly staff, which makes the experience even better. Highly recommend Mandi House--we'll definitely be back again! read more

Mandi House is the only Yemeni place in L.A. County (there are one or two in Anaheim) and it's well worth a visit. The prices seem high when you look at the menu, but seeing as their portions are enough to feed at least 2 people the food is priced fairly for what you get. I stopped in last week and ordered the lamb Mandi. The lamb was so tender it fell clear off the bones, and it was seasoned perfectly with Yemeni spices. It's served on a mound of saffron rice mixed with almonds and raisins. I was rather hungry when I walked in, but I could only put away about 1/3-1/2 of it. It was still delicious when I had the rest for lunch 2 days later. I've had the lamb Haneeth (same cooking method but different seasonings) - it's delicious but I prefer the Mandi. I've also had the vegetarian Saltah (a veggie stew made from a base of pureed fenugreek leaves) and it's tasty when eaten with the Yemeni bread (similar to naan). The place is about as authentic as you can find outside Yemen. All that's missing is that qat isn't on the menu and the waiters don't have curved daggers holstered at their hips :-D read more

Heard a lot of good things at this place but was really bummed out :( Mandi House is an authentic Yemeni restaurant in the heart of Westwood, and it's busy every day. Seems like a place of local cultural significance as there are a lot of locals enjoying the food. My friend and I came in on a Thursday night and it was pretty crowded. Service was alright and each table has a button you can ring for a server. I got the chicken mandi and my friend had the lamb. While portion sizes were enough to feed two people per plate, my chicken was very grainy and overcooked. The flavors were really lacking and it was unbearable to eat the chicken. My friends lamb was a lot better so maybe I just ordered wrong...(don't know where my photos went) Overall wouldn't take the risk of coming back and being disappointed but with how busy they are then there has to be something really good! read more

Found this spot on yelp and I'm glad I chose to try it. Pretty unique to sample a Yemen cuisine in LA and I must say I was very impressed. My friend and I decided to share a baba ganoush-style appetizer as well as chicken mandi dish over rice and lamb stew. The food portions were enormous and could have easily fed 4 people. The flavors were out of this world and very authentic to Yemen, as our server explained. A lot of spices and marinade involved for the meats. The freshly baked pita-style bread was heavenly and came in the size of a small hula hoop. The ambiance felt very authentic, with unique colors and regional wall decor and the customer service was friendly and professional. This was my first time trying Yemen food and wow, what an experience. The food was sooo good! The lamb was juicy and tender, and the rice was packed with so much flavor! The shrimp with bell peppers were delicious as well, but the flavor tasted familiar and didnt stand out as much as the lamb mandi. The bread was warm and chewy. There are 2 sauces provided, a red and white one. From an outsider peasant description, the red one is like salsa and the white one is tzatziki sauce. Service was on point and very hospitable. Our server was Malik. The decor is so gorgeous, colorful, and bold. It's just beautiful..and very clean. The food was so memorable that I went to the Anaheim location. However, the lamb mandi there did not match my experience here. The lamb was a bit dry and the rice didn't have as much raisins so I'm not sure if that contributed to the lack of flavor. Wow, this is a true hidden gem in LA. Step in a feels like you traveled somewhere new with just a single step into this restaurant. You walk in and notice it's quite homey and has the vibe of a restaurant in Asia or Europe. There are two styles of seating one more American style tables and the other more Yemeni style, sit on cushions more on the floor level. The service is friendly but they seem understaffed for lunch. It's prob half full and there are maybe just a handful of staff. They are quick and efficient. The menus have pictures, which I like because it's my first time eating Yemeni food. Everything is to share family style. Or a stew and a chicken rice to share between two people. Plenty of food. That flat bread is so tasty. Tip: Get the coffee, it's amazing. One of my favorite dining experiences in recent memory. I feel like I was transported to another part of the world (and maybe I was) when I sat down here. There are Yemeni pillows for resting for the smaller tables, but if you go here you'll probably want to bring your whole crew and then some and pop down at the communal tables in the back near the bathrooms. The food was also terrific: subtler, earthy tinges to their stews and dishes and hearty bread for sharing make for a nice, let alone novel, dining experience. We also got a honey and banana dessert here that I don't remember the name of but I would absolutely get again. The lamb was terrific, as was the beef. The service was seamless! You press a button at your table to call a waiter. In spite of there being so many tables the servers are surprisingly attentive. Huge portions and great service! There are regular tables and also more traditional like tables where you sit on the floor to eat. Great for a variety of groups. We ordered a few items which were definitely more than enough and had leftovers for a few days. The eggplant dip was ok to me but the bread they give us big and fresh and delicious. I really enjoyed the chicken rice dish as it's the most soft chicken and fall off the bone with so much flavor..also ordered the lamb and beef stew but I really don't like the green cilantro like thing on it but the flavor was really good and meat very tender. First time trying Yemeni food and it was amazing! I unexpectedly came for an Iftar during Ramadan, so they offered a $40 buffet with all types of dishes. It was perfect opportunity for me to try different Yemeni foods! In the buffet there was pitas, 2 types of samosas, hummus, baba ganoush, veggies, meats, desserts, soups, drinks, and much more. They even had Chicken and Lamb Mandi which are these huge platters of rice, meat and veggies. Everything was so delicious and flavorful. The lamb and beef were so tender. However, the chicken was dry. I like the rice which was fluffy and flavorful. I also like the added flavor and texture provided by the raisins and roasted nuts in the rice. I especially loved the desserts and drinks. I had this chocolate cake which was moist and not too sweet and some of the freshest orange juice I've ever had. The interior is also nice. I liked the representation of the nature in Yemen displayed on the TV. It makes me want to travel there when the political landscape isn't too intense. The cushion seating looked so comfy too and I want to sit there next time.
