One of many delicious restaurants in Tehrangeles. The service is always amazing; one time we even got a couple Persian dessert goodies for free just because we liked the food so much. My go-tos are always lamb shank and Cornish game hen and that is pretty much the same for every Persian restaurant I visit. While I won't try to rank the dishes, they are both very delicious. Add in the strong Persian tea (with refills!) and some wine and dinner is perfect. Unlike some other places, the pita is just served with butter--no onion or mint. Another curiosity lies in the side vegetables that you get. Generally onion and tomato are present. Sometimes you get a pepper sometimes you don't. Red or green bell pepper? Or maybe you get an Anaheim pepper. We even got some plantains before; I guess it's up to the chef's whims. On a personal note, I like that the Shirazi salad has cilantro instead of parsley, unlike almost all their neighbors. Parsley doesn't sit well with me, unfortunately, which typically means I'm gorging on rice and the salad is typically pre-mixed. As a night hawk I really do appreciate that they're open late. Sometimes I'm weird and want dinner at 10PM and Shaherzad is happy to serve me at that time. Expect your typical condiments: sugar cubes with tea and a shaker of sumac for your seasoning needs. I used to enjoy coming to Shahrzad before and after their remodeling, but unfortunately my experience today was extremely disappointing. The service was very poor from the moment we sat down. It was a hot day and we asked for water several times, but it was never brought until much later. In any restaurant, in any country, serving water and asking about drinks should be the first basic step of hospitality. The attitude of the server was also very unpleasant. When we asked for fresh bread she responded sarcastically with comments like, "Oh, you want bread too?" and "Oh, you want this too?" which made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. To make things worse, our appetizer arrived after the main course, and we had to ask multiple times for basic things. Throughout the meal the staff member kept looking at us in a way that made it seem like we were bothering them simply by being there. I even asked another employee if she was the manager because of how she was presenting the restaurant, but he said they both just worked there. Regardless, the way the restaurant was represented was unacceptable. Overall, this was a very bad experience with zero customer service. This was my first visit back after many years. And certainly the first after their remodeling. Liked the new setting, fully enjoyed the starters and freshly baked bread. Our service was great and the main dishes also were fresh, warmly served and tasty. The prices have skyrocketed like every where else, unfortunately. The quality of food was not that good. This place has been around for years and ive seen that they keep renovating and changing the owner but the food quality is still bad and they seem to not know where the problem is. The real problem is the chef. I was there last night and ordered a soltani with a half and half tadig. The ghormesabzi had a bitter taste which was awful and the koobide on the soltani seem to be made with a machine not hand made. After a couple of years , we decided to go to Shahrzad restaurant in Westwood. I ordered a Koobideh and my wife Soltani. The quality of the Kabob Koobideh was very bad . I asked my wife about her food and she was agree with me. Yes it was absolutely not tasty.After the food was served to us , our waiter never showed up and he never asked if we need anything!!! Bottom line , this restaurant was one of really decent restaurants in west LA in the past . Why now the stars are so low. To be honest, we did not enjoy our food at all. Absolutely recommend! I went with the Naderi and wow--no regrets! I don't even like red meat, but when my husband asked me to try his, I wished I had ordered it instead. My chicken breast kebob was great, but Naderi? Next level! Service? Solid. Even when it's packed, they do their best to take care of you. Ambiance? Unforgettable. If you go, make it a Saturday night--reserve a table, and you'll see why! The live entertainment is amazing. We were so caught up in the show that we barely touched our food! Leila, the singer, had everyone dancing, and even when the plates were empty, no one wanted to leave. A small stage for the singer would take it to the next level! We went to this restaurant yesterday and despite what I was expecting the food had turned terrible since the last time I visited this place many years back. Everything from the shirazi salad, to the yoghurt to the meat had a weird after taste. We ordered a lamb kabab to share and each had maybe two pieces, however we came back and for hours and hours felt bloated and not able to eat anything else. I think the management needs to do some major reconsiderations as you could only fool people with the remodeling scam for only a short period of time. My friend and I were on Westwood Blvd looking for lunch and she asked some stranger on the street which restaurant has good Persian food as we were standing in front of several. She told us to come here. We ordered the chicken kabob and this yogurt and cucumber salad (very much like tsaziki. We were wearing sweats as we were both going to the chiropractor up the street so I was a bit worried when I walked in as it's quite lovely with white linen tablecloths. However, the servers were so sweet and gracious. Very few people were there that afternoon. They brought out freshly made bread and OMG it was fantastic! It took about 15 minutes for the chicken kabob to arrive and it was massive. We split it between us and my friend had a to go box - there was that much. It was the most tender and delicious kabob I've ever had. After about 30 minutes I realized I had been there about ten years ago - maybe more. The price is very reasonable too. We love this place! Sadly we were alarmed to see the poor reviews. We took a chance to visit again. At 12 we were greeted by the main server, shah ran with kindness as usual. We ordered the salmon fish kabob and lima bean rice, mast o khiar, and their fresh naan bread. The bread is made fresh in their authentic cylinder oven. Its comes out piping hot and served with butter. I love this place because of the unique bread. You cant get this bread anywhere! The salmon is fresh, I can tell. Nicely char around giving that bbq flavor. The rice is delicious and full of flavor. You can eat it just by itself! The ambience of this place is cozy and classy. Shaherzad is located right in the heart of Persian square. My family usually gets Persian food in Irvine, but when we're in West LA, we stop by Shaherzad. Here's the good- The food is excellent. We love the kabobs and the stews. They are authentic and high quality. They also make their bread fresh daily. It smells and tastes heavenly. There is also plenty of parking and small shops in the area. Here's the bad- To be clear, most of the waiters and all of the buss staff are awesome! But we had one waiter who overcharged the party next to us by about $30 (they were just a party of 2). Then, when we got our bill, we were ALSO overcharged (party of 3). They charged us for a fourth random entree. We chatted with the party next to us, and it didn't seem like there was a mixup between our receipts--instead, we both just had random entrees added to our bills. Partially the low Yelp reviews and the other because the place is too bright and the decor is in need of a makeover HOWEVER- the food is seriously good Persian Food The Tadig was yummy and crunchy with an amazing amount of fesenjun to spoon on top. (Great to dip the meats in too!) The kashk bademajun. (Eggplant appetizer) is one of the best I ever had. Located on Westwood Blvd in the hear of Little Tehran aka Tehrangeles, this restaurant is only two or three doors down from a competitor which I will try next. Parking is on the street with meters and it can be hard to find a space if you lack patience. There is no valet parking. When you enter the dining room, you get the vibe that this is one or the more upscale Persian restaurants in the neighborhood, with tablecloths, etc. The menu covers all the bases but is not as comprehensive as Shamshiri down the street. I ordered my usual, chicken koobidah with basmati rice and a broiled tomato. My friend ordered the lamb kabobs and the barley soup. The chicken koobideh was lacking the usual Persian spices that are supposed to give it the great flavor that enhances the mild taste of the ground chicken. Instead, they substituted salt on both skewers. Yuk. The rice was not as fluffy and soft as it should be. The broiled tomato was the best part of my plate, although it was very small. I ordered a shirazzi salad with dressing on the side as I don't like salads swimming in salad dressing. It was clearly out of a very cold fridge or maybe a freezer? The tomatoes and cucumbers were hard as a rock and very cold. Peter said the soup was excellent and he practically lives on soup at his home, making his own, so that was a hit. His lamb was on the tough side. The complimentary bread was good and came with onions but lacked the mint and radishes I have grown used to at Shamshiri. The Persian waiter had a standoffish attitude an excuded bad vibes except when he presented the check. The busboy delivered all our food and spoke extremely limited English which caused problems such as my sald came with dressing and he did not at first understand that I wanted it with dressing on the side. A restaurant in our multicultural city should nonetheless have staff who at least understand you. The prices are a little higher and the portions smaller than Shamshiri. They don't bring sabzi to your table. First time we haven't had that brought- and the mint, feta, cucumber etc adds just a nice flavor and compliment to your meal typically... Mast o mousir was thick and creamy yogurt with a nice flavor. N ordered the beef koobideh and I ordered the same but with the specialty rice: zaresk polo. Both were good but kind of average comparatively speaking. In Dallas this would have been a 5 but in Tehrangeles this is a 3. The flavors were just missing that little Persian sparkle. Tip: use Yelp discount. This Persian restaurant has been around a long time. It's clean and elegant, but they're casual for lunch. My family came in Friday after Thanksgiving for the lunch specials. The place had lots of patrons, most of them Persian, but lots of business people, too. They only had 1 waiter and busser, 1 man making fresh flat bread, but it was probably unexpected holiday traffic. The Shirazi salads, which are hard to ruin, were delicious! The green salad was also good, with a homemade dill thousand island dressing. We had the Olivieh salad, a chicken/potato Appetizer served cold, which was great, but not as good as warm & fresh homemade. The Barley soup was great, not salty at all. I hear the Kashk eggplant appetizer is great. The Cornish Game Hen kabob was surprisingly tender, very tasty. The Grilled White Fish kabob was juicy, hearty & healthy. The sautéed Rainbow Trout was light & crispy. The Lubia Polo (minced filet in rice) with ground sirloin kabob, was very good, though I've had better koobideh. The only slight miss was the Lamb Tahchin, which was quite gamy; my friend says the Chicken version is great, and a RARE find. Overall, lots of different, vibrant flavors, and large portions. They also have a variety of rice specialties, which I hear are great and I regret missing. The desert was Persian ice cream wafer sandwich with pistachios, etc. which the fam loved. Meats could have been seasoned slightly more, but I still enjoyed them, especially with their own house made flat bread. Interestingly, I was not served a plate of raw onions with butter. Not sure if it's something they do only upon request, or if they just assumed that a non-Persian would not be eating that. Service was good. Good old standard.
