Sabzi Khordan (mint, onion, radish) & Sangak appetizer.

Shamshiri Grill made last Monday's dine at home with friends' my turn to host luncheon a most delicious experience. In my mind, work/time constraints prevented a Monday order. Plan ahead me called in the following for delivery last Sunday. So, what could possibly be ordered, remain fresh 24-hours later? I chose vegan/vegetarian sides/appetizers: Baba Ganoush - I've made it but Shamshiri Grill's is SO much better; creamy, perfectly seasoned. Hummus - Again, can DIY but why? Shamshiri Grill's is yum, pure yum, protein packed. Falafel - Balanced ingredients and frying technique is key. Came with a portion of tahini (had some in the pantry just in case). Should have ordered more falafel. Never gonna make this at home again, ever! Tabuli - Shamshiri Grill's includes the perfect hint of mint along with the parsley and tomatoes. Panir o' Shabiz - All aforementioned are wonderful BUT this, well this, is what I could eat and nothing else. Fresh basil, mint, tomatoes, radishes, sweet white onion, scallions, walnuts, feta, lemon, butter to be consumed with abundant pita bread and sumac provided. My kinda "sandwich"! This, Panir o'Shabiz was the only order I immediately deconstructed to avoid compromising the herbs' and veggies' freshness. Carefully wrapping them in kitchen towels, refrigerated then re-plated and back in the fridge prior to leaving for work after setting the table. Oh, isolated the feta and walnuts too. Everyone at last Monday's gathering is an omnivore with heavy plant-based dietary leanings. BUT, occasionally we stray hence a side each of chicken and beef koobideh (ground seasoned meat cooked kabob style) and grilled tomato, onion, red bell pepper garnish (also available as a side). I divvied each koobideh into bite sized pieces to be shared among three guests. REALLY good, make those tiny bites, REALLY, REALLY good. Everyone arrived, me too, on time to nosh on the veggie offerings as the koobideh and falafel gently warmed in the oven on low. Plenty of convo, cleared the table for tea and dried dates... Shamshiri Grill you and all the staff from chefs to delivery made my gathering a success, many thanks. Note: No recent pics (cameras/phones not allowed at our group's table) but 2017/18 ones reflect what we ate.

Shamshiri has been part of my life since I was a child. My dad was a single parent, and some of my favorite memories growing up were coming here with him. This restaurant isn't just food to me it feels like home. After all these years, the taste, quality, and hospitality have never changed. The meat is still perfectly cooked, the rice is amazing, and every meal brings back memories from my childhood. Today I came with my cousin and ordered Baghali Polo with Lamb Shank for my dad because it's still his favorite meal after decades. Even with so many Persian restaurants opening across Los Angeles and all over California, my dad still only wants Shamshiri. He says nobody else comes close to the flavor and authenticity here. The owners and staff have always been kind, welcoming, and consistent throughout the years. You can truly feel the heart behind this place. Thank you, Shamshiri, for being part of my childhood and my family's memories for so many years. This will always be my favorite Persian restaurant in Los Angeles.

They gave our bookclub a nice spacious round table in the front corner of the restaurant near the window and it was perfect. We came here specifically because most of us are vegetarian and they had an extensive vegan menu and many of the traditional dishes from the book we had just finished and were going to be discussing (The Stationery Shop). We ordered family style and had more than enough food! For our group of 6 we got a falafel appetizer, mirza ghasemi, tahdig with ghormeh sabzi, a small Greek salad (quite large), vla side of feta cheese, vegan zereshk polo with shirazi salad as the side, and because we thought it wouldn't be enough a side of grilled vegetables which was overwhelmingly large! They also brought some pita bread with garnish when we sat down. The falafel was delicious and moist and quite different than the taste of Greek falafel which is what ive usually had. The tahdig was nice and crispy with a layer of ghormeh sabzi on top which reminded me of an indian spinach curry. The zereshk polo had little barberries which I've never had but made it a bit sweet and tasted great with the grilled vegetables of which we had a huge assortment. The onion was Very spicy beware! Lastly, the mirza ghasemi which I forgot to take a picture of was delicious and tasted like Indian bengan Bhartu (a similar blended eggplant dish). I didn't really like the bread that it was served with as it got hard quickly. Everything else including the service was great. Thank you for a great exploration of Persian food!

We went to this restaurant on a Friday night and it was packed. We were seated after a few minutes and our server came over to take our order. We ordered the koobideh kabob, adas polo, and barg kabob. The food was tasty and the portions were pretty large. We also tried the doogh and it was good. One thing that really concerned me though was the tables. They have stone tables and some of the corners are chipped and very sharp, which can be dangerous, specially for kids. My son accidentally hit his hand on one of the corners and ended up with two small cuts. We let our sever know so they can hopefully fix it and make it safer for others, but wasn't really any response or apology. He just said he would let the manager know. The manager never came over to check on what happened. If you are coming with kids, I'd suggest being extra careful or possibly skipping this place.

Simply hands down one of the best to do it. Stepped in to get their chicken kebab plate, walked away completely satisfied and amazed by the quality, expedient service, the charm, all of it. I ordered their lentil soup as well, it was hearty and delicious and served not too hot, perfect for consumption. Their kebab is to die for honestly, I love the fresh pita as well, it's so good! The side plate of sliced turnips, onions and mint also is such a nice touch to the palette. Can't stress enough how great this place is!

We [group of 4] came on Sunday around lunch and were able to be seated right away. It wasn't busy but there were a bunch of couples/families there (good sign!) We ordered a lot of food since we like to eat family style and try a bunch of things - everything was delicious and came out quick/hot! Servers were polite and staff was friendly. Overall great experience - we ate, laughed, were seated quickly, food came out fast, and drank a lot of serif tea. We took most of our food to go and the leftovers held well too!

Salad must be ordered as a starter. Very fresh with lemon olive oil dressing.

There are so many choices for Persian food in Westwood. Shamshiri has been a consistent winner for me over the years. Parking is scarce on Westwood blvd and the restaurant is always crowded. The maître d' is a bit snooty but I'm there for the food. The grill is in full view and it's pumping. Expect to eat lots of protein. Prior to ordering, pita bread and vegetables are plopped on your table. The bread is fresh and crazy good when warm (tip: not as good as take out cuz it gets hard). Raw onion slices (yes, you heard that right) with radish slices and mint leaves warm you up for your carnivore meal. I usually order chicken koobideh at Persian restaurants (ground meat seasoned and rolled into a log, grilled over an open flame). It's very flavorful and easy to savor with spoonfuls of rice. The shamshiri comes with koobideh and chicken kabob. On this occasion, the kabob was slightly dry. Incidentally, the shamshiri can also be ordered in beef. Persian stews are always a must for the table. Fasenjan is my personal favorite. Very velvety with tartness and sweet tones (Pomegranate and walnuts--who knew). Shamshiri has an artistic twist. The rice is an individual bowl with the treasure at the bottom. Tahdig is the well done crust harvested from the bottom of the bowl (it's known as "Persian crack"). Lamb kabab was the star tonight. It was perfectly grilled and succulent. I could've devoured two orders. It's always a treat to eat here or get take out when in the neighborhood. They have been consistently good for many years.

Amazing food. Large portions. You will leave stuffed like you just finished a Thanksgiving meal. The chicken shawarma is awesome. Also had a dish that was chicken cooked in tomato sauce with green beans that was full of flavor. This place rocks.

    Lunch special

I like to take friends and family here if they are craving persian food and a nice sit down experience! The portion sizes are huge and the chicken kabob is super juicy and flavorful. Its always packed inside! And they have the best lunch special, $20 gets you so much food.

As many have noted this is your typical old school Persian spot. If you looking for fancy decor this may not be your place, but solid, unpretentious Persian food in Terhangales? go no further The sabzi plate was fresh and vibrant. The fresh herbs and onion helped cut the rich nature of the food. Shallot Yogurt (Musir): Nice and thick. The balance of the sour and shallots was perfect. It was great just eating by the spoon or paired in a bite with the rice and kebabs perfect Salad Shirazi: One thing you have to do to balance the onslaught of kebabs and that oh so rich buttery rice is, in addition to the musir, add a traditional Salad Shirazi. The chopped salad of cucumbers, onions and tomatoes, dressed with lemon juice and olive out, add a bright, acidic, vegetative palate cleanser between bites. Chicken: Well seasoned and perfectly grilled chicken was juicy and tender. Beef Soltani: The best of both worlds. The Barg was t4ender, well seasoned and juicy. The Koobideh was super rich, and perfectly seasoned Service was on point and friendly. There are tons of options for Persian food in the area, but this one stands out with an understated excellence

I begin with a truism: Cherry rice is the greatest thing since Gluten free white bread. Cherry rice elevates the lowly white rice to such lofty culinary heights that one forever after questions why plain white rice even exists. There, I said it. The four of us Bruin fans ate at Shamshiri Grill before going to watch UCLA dismantle USC. We all got different combo's with the aforementioned cherry rice officially called Albalou polo. The chicken Koobideh I ordered à la carte because their portions are so generous along with the cherry rice was tender and beautifully flavored. All took home enough for a second meal so while the prices have gone up, the portion size provides food to take home to enjoy later. Did I mention how good the cherry rice is and like pizza and some other food, it reheats and goes down easy later.

I've seen the negative reviews and I've never had a bad meal here. This is the perfect place to impress your friends. Portions are huge and the food is comforting. We started with the kashk e bademjan and tahdig with fesenjan. We also ordered a Shamshiri plate with the two beef kabobs and a lamb shank. It was the perfect variety of food and an explosion of flavors. This place is as authentic as it comes and has been around forever. The staff is so friendly and accommodating. Try and come for an early lunch or be prepared to wait a bit. This place is not super casual but not super fancy. Just an overall solid spot for Persian food.

The Baseline: For a Persian restaurant the kebabs and stews must have the classic Persian flavors, the rice/hummus sides must be well prepared with taste, the ingredients must be fresh, and the dining experience must be enjoyable. Food: The lunch specials here are fantastic and feed you well. I got the Koobideh Platter and the beef skewer was delicious. The grilled tomato and onion really accompanied the meat. I opted for the green salad and lentil soup for starters which really kicked off the meal. I forgot to ask for the garlic sauce but I was told this is a must have next time. Service: We had a great waitress when we visited. She was friendly, efficient, and accommodating to a bunch of different orders. Great service. Water glasses always filled. Ambiance: Shamshiri looks like a Persian restaurant. Main points is that the table layouts were well spaced and maximized service flow. Clean restroom.

The Tumeric braised chicken is amaaazzzinggg the chicken is so juicy and falls off the bone. The rice has some sort of crunchiness to it that compliments the entire flavor profile of the dish. Recently, we were curious if our old go-to, Javan, was still any good. So, my wife and I dined there. The beef and chicken koobideh entrees were both excellent- so tender and juicy. This weekend, we have some friends visiting from San Francisco. As SF is a fantastic food town in its own right, we suggested two different food options that are better in L.A. than what you'll find up there: Korean BBQ or Persian food. The wife pushed a return to Javan. Alex, the manager, recommended the All Javan Combo for our party of 5. It includes tzatziki, hummus, salad, and flatbread to start followed by beef and chicken koobideh, chicken kabob, filet, lamb, and choice of rice. We added an eggplant stew with lamb shank and an extra skewer of chicken koobideh. Finished the meal off with hot tea, a sublimely-delicious saffron ice cream (house-made by Alex himself), baklava, and little bites that were like honey churro nubs. After we finished this feast of a meal, my daughter looked up at me and said, "This was one of the best Persian meals I've ever had." I must agree. This was a meal greater than the sum of its parts- food was very, very good and the experience was elevated by the warmth of Alex and his staff. It's rare that a restaurant works this hard to make its guests feel welcome. Free street parking and a full-bar (Alex is happy to whip-up a special cocktail for you). I give Javan my highest recommendation. Please eat here if you're in the mood for Persian food. Bon Appétit!

Just until recently we have been experiencing changes in flavor and food presentation, still no excuse to serve people that have been supporting their business with tasteless and cold food. Last week I had enough and called over the manager. He did mention due to the high cost, they had to cut back and raise prices. Giving us the typical excuses to weasel their way out. Order 1 was tri stews that came out cold with small portion of rice. The stews were tasteless and meatless. Menu states chunks of beef but yet nothing in our dish. Maybe they gave us the veggie option for $28. I scream middle eastern from a mile away do you think I would go there for a veggie dish? I don't think so. Discrepancies can elevate a dish but unfortunately I don't think the new management in the kitchen has any clue on culinary arts. If you lack that part in your business at least serve a warm dish with decent size rice which is cheap to buy or add some side greens that can fill a normal size man so I don't have to stop by In N Out after. Order 2 was chicken barg that was cold as our stews, tasteless and strange color to it which manager claimed it was a new marinate and also agreed it was small. Small portion and cold but yet they charged $28 for it. No mention if their cuts are organic or not is very troubling as the chicken felt it was frozen with a chewing texture and a strange aftertaste. The icing on cake was a $5 premium charge for a small bottle of sparkling water that's normally at most at local gas stations for a $1.90. The manager had the nerve to tell us they have been cutting back including the small slice of lemon that they used to offer with a glass of water. This place is a joke and ran by people that just care for money as they have been opening new locations with our support. They have forgotten when you claim superiority over other restaurants you better deliver as presentation is key which this restaurant lacks as well. Manager claimed they focus on healthy marinates and oils and provide healthy meals which as if he was selling me on a gym membership! Maybe he should save all that talk and had refunded my money. I paid, even gave a healthy tip as the server had nothing to do with it and I would have ordered desserts but everything on it was unhealthy and store bought contradictory to his long speech. Save your money and don't go here.

Heaven in my mouth. The creaminess of the dip, the tang of the yogurt, the crunch of the mint, the sweetness of the onions. I could have ordered three right then and there. The lamb was delicious and juicy. It was a little bit on the salty side but I didn't mind at all, and definitely did not notice with a mouthful of steamy rice and roasted tomato. The beef was also juicy and had a hint of alluring spices in each bite. The roasted vegetables were simple, which is exactly what the meat needs. We were the only other group there beside one other. It was pretty empty for a Friday at 630 pm, so there were many tables to sit at. It's a somewhat small restaurant, but the food gives it big personality! Definitely reccomend!

Out of all the koobideh worlds, you had to walk into mine. (Insert in love face emoji). Yelp when…read moreare you going to let me put in symbols or emojis on my reviews?! All the meat whether chicken, salmon or beef comes out perfectly juicy and flavorful. Just wish things weren't so expensive. They do add an extra $3 for salad, which isn't preposterous but not worth it in my opinion. Also they certainly do pile on the rice inside!! Yummmm. And I'll gladly eat their roasted tomatoes anytime. This restaurant was quiet and I gladly filled a cup of ice water by the entrance, plopped on a bench and waited less than 15 minutes for 2 plates. The cashier even brought it over to me rather than calling out; a small but meaningful impact of service. This is a new review on an old favorite of mine. Glad to reunite again Taste of Tehran!
