First of all this is one of the extremely few Italian restaurants south of the mason dixon line that has exceptional bread. Asked if they baked their own they admitted it comes from the land of excellent bread, bagel, hoagie rolls etc. NJ, PA, , Ny region where bread stuffs are old world. But the excellence doesn't end there. Their soups are wonderfully prepared. I particularly like the authentically Italian carbonara dish that's included on an extensive pasta selection. Great offerings with seafood and meats abound. The wine list is more than adequate with reasonable prices. Not being a desert person they have an espresso that's more than satisfying. You have a great authentic ristorante menu to choose from. There will be plenty of dishes to bring you back again and again. read more

Had a good meal last night at Mangia e Bevi. Great service, but it can be spotty at times. Overall, good Italian food.

We come here a few times a month for the pizza which I have to say is excellent. That said I started to get tired of the pizza and decided to start trying some of the other dishes they offer. Very disappointing to say the least. Very bland so so food. Wasn't the worst I've had but nothing that would make me want to return if not for the pizza. Food was good but I felt overcharged for a Marguerita pizza because it was from "Pizza My Way". The crust was $15 for a "media" 14", then I got charged $2 for tomatoes, $2 for basil herb, $4 for the mozzarella. So = $23!!! None of these toppings were on the menu of "Pizza My Way". Well, how do I start? There are 6 of us: 3 kids and 3 adults. No one liked their food, except my son. Mac & Cheese for my little girl was a bust. It was like fried dough with gelatinous cheese and macaroni pieces inside - not good. I had the linguini with clams. The waitress bragged that it was fresh and in shells. It was salty and without taste. Really bad. For an appetizer we had the steamed mussels with a spicy marinara sauce. Again, salty and the sauce was served at a significantly higher temperature than the muscles. I believe they poured the sauce over the mussels and the mussels were steamed hours ago. My kids love mussels - they wouldn't eat more than one. The cheese pizza was the best thing. We had a vote: Z - my 6 year old son says cheese pizza was 5 A - my 7 year old daughter gave the Mac & Cheese a 2 Grandpa - he gave the veal a 2 Q - 11 year old daughter gave the the fettuccine Alfredo a 2 Moms - gave the egg plant parm a 3 I gave the linguine and clams a 2 Waitress was awesome - she made the experience fun. Now, I forgot to mention it took 12 minutes before our waitress came by to say "need anything to drink?" So that's a 1. Ambiance outside OK. So we give this experience a 2 overall. My son is generous. I would pass on this restaurant in the future, but our waitress knew what a Moscow Mule is - but she said we can't make it and we don't have the cups (copper cups). I am married to an Italian and both her parents are Italian. The point is, we take our Italian cuisine seriously. Mangia is probably our favorite Italian restaurant. The pizza is divine (my father-in-law said it might be the best he has ever had) and the pasta sauces are excellent. Don't miss the cooked spinach with garlic and oil. read more

I love Mangia e Bevi and eat there a couple of times a month. The food is fresh and delicious and consistently good whilst still being reasonably priced. Standout dishes are the stuffed pepper and the steamed mussels appetiser. The fabulous lasagne is reminiscent of ones served in Europe rather than the overcheesed ones typically found in the US. Pollo marsala, ciambotto de pesce, and the rockfish are delicious and the limoncello gelato is to die for. Mangia e Bevi has a nice outdoor seating area in summer and the service is always friendly and attentive. read more

I live in Urbana so my family and I go here all the time. I literally have never eaten a bad meal there. My favorite thing is the pistachio mushroom ravioli (it's to die for). They are pretty quick and the staff there is great. I have no complaints whatsoever. It's a must. read more

We love the pizza - so much so that we don't order other entrees. Although more expensive than your chain delivery places, it is worth the extra cost. The crust is thin with a great sauce. We share a mushroom and onion and a bottle of chianti for a great date night dinner. read more

This is certainly not the first place I'd think of if I wanted to take guests out for Italian food. The food is ok - nothing special as the flavors don't exactly pop. The bread for example came with a dipping plate but the seasoning was pretty much clearly a modest shake of Oregano in some olive oil. Great food, as closed to real Italian food as one gets outside Italy ( I have not eaten in NYC Italian restaurants yet). The chef is Italian, from Puglia, a south-eastern province in Italy. He comes out of the kitchen to make sure customers get good service and attention. We have eaten there only 4 times, and so will update this review. The meat dishes seem more consistent than the sea-food dishes. The "Chicken Siciliano" is the first tender, moist, and flavorful chicken breast dish I have ever had in my life, filled with a subtle mix of flavors difficult to analyze, and SO delicious. The "Ciambotto del Pescatore" was disappointingly bland though the "Rack of lamb alla brace" was flawless... The sides that come with the entrées are well-prepared, and flavorful. The delicious bread is served warm, although the third refill may be cold older bread. Maybe a way to stop the refilling? The Tiramisù is consistently out of this world!! The profiteroles are a tad too chocolaty and sweet for us, but should please a sweet tooth. Prices are reasonable for the quality of food served; Go to Frederick or to Rockville, and you will see higher prices charged for pseudo Italian food. Our experience at Mangia et Bevi was better at dinnertime than at lunchtime. read more

This place is way overpriced, especially for the quality of food. Pizza was probably the worst we have had in Frederick with soupy vegetables, little (and low quality) cheese and non-descript crust (and at a price of over $20!) We also had a shrimp dish, which was good despite the use of farm-raised shrimp. For the prices this place charges, they should be serving wild shrimp. I guess they figure most people won't notice the difference between cheap cheese and shrimp and the good stuff. The atmosphere was pretty sorry as well. I went here for the first time on my birthday with a few friends. It was a Friday night and the entire seating area was pretty much packed. My friends brought me a b-day cake and didnt know they dont allow outside food in the premises. However, the manager was kind enough to let us cake at the end. All of our meals were good and the portions were huge. None of us finished our meals and had to pack the rest to go. I had shrimp diablo and it was delicious. The shrimp was fresh and big. I didnt give this place a 5 star because the wait tress seldom came to check on us and thought their price could be a tad cheaper. Definitely would go back. read more

My wife and I walked in and were seated within 2 minutes on a busy Friday night. About a minute after sitting the waitress came back and unseated us. Yes they said sorry for the confusion but it was not our table. We were told it would be just a minute and it turned out to be 15 minutes. The policy of unseating someone does not sit well with me and I will not return. Food is decent but overpriced for what you get. Service after being seated the second time was also fine. read more

Rarely do I take the time to write a review but tonight's experience made me do it. I ordered a salad with salmon on it. The salmon portion was less than 2 ounces. When I complained, the owner came over to our table, did not introduce himself or recognize me, although I have eaten here on several occasions, only because it was conveniently located next to my medical practice-the food is mediocre with a nice atmosphere. He then proceeded to act rude and arrogant tword me in front of my children - all over 2 ounces of salmon! My children are young, but, they are foodies and we laughed all the way home. I would have gladly paid for more food but none was offered. We will drive the extra 10 miles to another Italian restaurant next time. I only wish that i was in the Italian restaurant business. A mediocre restaurant would easily gain the small amount of business this one has. When they are no longer the only game in town, they will say goodbye quickly. read more

I really enjoy this place. Every time I go, I find them trying very hard to do whatever they can to make sure our dining experience is a step above the rest. Last night (New Year's Eve) for example, when another restaurant completely botched our reservation, I called them up and explained the situation and they made sure that we would be able to get seated when we got there. When we arrived we waited maybe five minutes for the prior party to finish up and leave, and the table was cleared up and ready for us shortly after that. Our meals were delicious, starting with the calamari appetizer (the sauce was maybe a bit spicier than in the past but still good!) and then I with the Sesame Crusted Seared Ahi Tuna (which maybe could have used a bit more flavor but, again was still good). My wife had the Chicken al Limone which is always just right!, and the Lasagne is always a winner for my son (and father-in-law) to split! We finished with cheesecake, cannoli and finger sized funnel cakes, all very good, though make sure to eat the funnel cakes in a timely fashion or they tend to get hard and very chewy! All in all, a great evening and great dinner out! read more

Food was good, but service horrible. We had party of 6 and everybody got their food at different times. We also waited for drinks forever. No one came to check on us while our glasses were empty. There was no appology at the end of the dinner for very poor service. Would not recommend to go back or if you want to dine there for party of 6. If you want their food probably you be better off doing take out. Very disappointed and surprise how the service was so slow and unpleasant. read more

I enjoy the pizza. If you think a pizza should cost $10 then this place isn't for you. What I have a problem with is they do not make their own pasta. That is inexcusible. Any one xan open a box, so why would I pay for someone else to do that. If you claim to be an Italian restuarant, then be an authenic Italian restuarant. In an area that suffers from to many fake Italian restuarants, make your mark by producing authentic hand made Italuan dishes. People will complain because they want their Italian in a can, but they will never be happy unless they get endless breadsticks and boxed pasta. read more

I really like this place. The food is really great and very consistent. It's always very busy in there in the Urbanna location. It feels comforting and welcoming. I love the chicken sandwich and the gumbo. Sometimes I get frustrated with the bartenders. They seem to only deal wonderfully with the regulars. They have private conversations and address them immediately. I am not a regular and tend to get ignored until I force eye contact. Once they serve me it's wonderful and they're very nice it's just if you're not a regular you definitely take second priority. Overall I really like the Urbana location it's a fun place to be and I would encourage anybody to give it a try read more

Why is it that they offer 18" pizzas to go for 15.00, but will only let you order a medium 14" while dining in? Oh and the 14" is also 15.00?! What a rip off! I had to order 2 14" Instead of 1 18". Thirty dollars for two mediums not including 2.00 for each topping, 3.00 for each topping on a large! Very disappointing. We used to come here years ago when we lived in the area and loved it, but this was crazy. Not sure if it's under new management? Only plus was good service. Won't return again. read more

We went to Mangia e Bevi for a weeknight dinner for a party of 6. We sat outside. The service was slow and insincere throughout the meal except for when the server adjusted the umbrella so the sun wasn't in our eyes. Even bringing our drinks to the table took much longer than I would expect at any restaurant, especially one that charges $15-25 per entree. The food was decent, but nothing memorable. The mussels were too salty and the rockfish was overcooked. The most memorable part of the food service was the fact that all of the entrees were served at the same time except one. The final dish was cooked with regular pasta instead of gluten-free as it had been ordered and had to be remade. Most of us had finished our meals when the final dish came out. The waitress made no attempt to accommodate us for the restaurant's mistake. I have no plans to return as there are many better tasting Italian restaurants in Frederick with much better service. Overall, I would say Mangia e Bevi is not worth the price. read more

Mangia E. Bevi is the only Italian restaurant in Urbana and is very good. The atmosphere is not like you are actually in Italy like many restaurants try to replicate, it is instead friendly and reminds one of home made Italian dinners from childhood the price was rather large but worth it. The food was very good, I got the Fettuccini Alfredo it was heavy thick and creamy just how should have been the tiramisu for desert which was also great. If you in Urbana and want some fancy Italian go here! read more

We have eaten here several times and the food has been excellent, without exception. The veal and chicken are great, with a very tasty sauce, and the steak is also pretty much perfect. Likewise the pasta dishes. We've never ordered the pizza, so can't vouch for that, but this isn't really a "pizza place", it's an Italian restaurant. read more

I am normally very happy with my experience here. I live very close and frequent this restaurant often, this is definitely going to end after my experience today. I went and got salads, soups, and some sides and as usual asked for some extra garlic. When we received the bill we were charge $4.00 for EXTRA SPECIAL ORDER. WTF????!! Who charges $4.00 for a little bit of garlic?? That being said, who just adds $4.00 to a bill without first consulting the customer to ask if $4.00 for garlic is something they are interested in paying?? I then saw I was charged $3.00 for bread (which was offered, again with no discussion of extra costs). I have never heard of being charged for bread. SO when the waitress came back to collect the bill I obviously asked about these two charges. She told me "garlic is expensive and her boss would get mad if they didn't charge us for it" she went on to tell me "it says bread is $3.00 on the menu". I am sorry but I have been here more than10 times and have never ONCE been charged for bread, I have also eaten just salads and sides and not been charged for bread. There is no way I would pay $3.00 for bread when I am paying over $70.00 for a meal. I am sorry but that is beyond outrageous and there lack for respect to inform the customer as well as complete nonchalant behavior with my problem is just ridiculous. I will definitely not be going back and will for sure tell people I know to do the same. Train your staff to inform your customers, I could never imagine not telling my customers little (normally free things) are extra money. read more

Really good Italian food (I'm from NY). Outside of Frederick city, easily the best Italian restaurant in the area. The dishes are all homemade - some of the pasta's as well. Chicken piccata, chicken parm, ravioli in a tomato/pistachio cream sauce (awesome), pretty good pizza, very good bolognese. Outstanding bread and very tasty desserts. My family and I dined at Mangia e Bevi for the first time this past Friday night. We arrived for dinner late in the evening (7 pm) and we were very hungry, but I'm glad we gave this place a try. We ordered our kids meals first and their food came out very quickly, which is key when dining with young children. All the food came out very quickly, great service and friendly staff! The food was very delicious! We usually dine at Agrodolce in Germantown for Italian cuisine but now that we found Mangia e Bevi we plan to go back to dine again! It is hard to find places that have great food and also quick and friendly service. read more

I discovered this restaurant when, on our way to Frederick, my 5 year old granddaughter proclaimed that she "had to go". The food is fantastic. I particularly like the veal Marsala. The food is fresh, the help very attentive and the deserts different but very tasty. I'm working my way through the menu. I tried the Stracciatella soup, made with a delicious chicken broth, spinach, and parmigiana cheese. I ended up cleaning the bowl with bread (it would be gross to lick it). There is a great attention to detail. The iced tea was brewed and the lemon slice is substantial unlike many places where it is a token size. The food is made fresh and tastes fresh. The blending of flavors is thoughtful and delicious. I recommend MangiaEBevi highly. Eli was particularly attentive and we shared some interesting life experiences. read more
