Today me and a group of friends came to this restaurant. I have been here a few times before and it's always been lovely. Today was the worst. We got there an hour after they opened. We all ordered our food 20 minutes later. It was not busy. They brought out seven out of 10 meals and then told the other three that they were out of what they had ordered. Two ordered something different and the other one didn't order because both things she wanted were not available. I asked the server and the manager why were they able to order if you guys knew you were out of 3 different items. I was given one excuse after the other. Out of the two people that ordered something different only one received her food. The one never received her food. the final thing she asked for was a salad and we were all leaving and she hadn't received it yet. I don't usually leave reviews but this was unacceptable. This ruined our friend gathering because we all wanted to eat not just 8 of us. The excuse I was given is we don't know what people are going to order. And I said someone should be keeping track to let servers know what is available and you should most definitely let people know when they order, not after everyone's food comes out. We could have made the decision as a group to go elsewhere had we known so many items were unavailable. And since everyone was eating you don't want to be hungry so you're forced to pick something you didn't want. I will never come back. They gave us nothing for ruining our experience and still tacked on the 18% gratuity. We had to ask someone for water refills. Don't waste your time. read more

This restaurant was recommended by a friend. Unfortunately, my visit was not pleasant. Several friends and I visited today, a Tuesday, at 11 am. A couple of us ordered the shrimp and grits, a couple ordered the quiche and other items on the menu. Shortly after placing the orders, the waitress returned to state that there was only enough shrimp and grits for one person. I decided to try the fish and grits. Once the food was brought to the table, she informed the guests who had ordered the quiche, that it was no longer available. Both had decided on another option, however, the other option one had chose was also unavailable so chose to not get anything. The order of shrimp and grits never came. That person chose to get a salad. A to go order came out before the salad because the salad order was never placed. I'm not sure if the waitress was overwhelmed because she was the only one working the floor. To have so many things unavailable an hour after opening is unacceptable . Management was spoken to discuss our dismay in this visit. I definitely will not return as the food was average for the cost and the availability of food items is questionable. read more

Went there this weekend with my group of friends (7 in total) and was immediately sat down. However, they didn't have a big enough table so we had to be split up between two outdoor round tables. Kinda annoying but we'd make do. Then they gave us three menus to share between all of us. Again annoying. The waiter was super nice and asked for our drinks right away. Then they started on a speech about the business, mangos, and that everything was made from scratch so we should expect a bit of a wait. However, after thinking a min we decided that we were all too hungry to wait and our tables were in direct sunlight so when the waiter came back we decided to just pay for the drinks and go. Unfortunately we didn't leave until about 30 minutes later. All the lemonades and waters had come out and been chugged so we were just waiting for two mixed drinks. After 10 minutes we asked about canceling them but the waiter said they had already started them. I'm pretty sure they not only had not started them but purposely pushed us to the back of the queue because it doesn't take 30 min to make a slushee with a dash of grenadine and even less vodka. Black owned business - is a family affair started by three sister's who were contestants on Shark Tank! This is a great brunch spot! The homemade preserves served on the side with most items on the menu is delicious! The food is fantastic and seasoned to perfection. The visit to this restaurant during dinner hours was a great decision! We enjoyed the creole stuffed portobello and vegan pasta which were well seasoned and delicious with good portions sizes. We also enjoyed the panache mimosa sampler and fried green tomatoes as shareable appetizers. The restaurant was busy and we were seated in a high traffic area which seemed to be the case for both of the times that I've been there. The staff was professional and attentive to the needs of customers. In the next visit, yes there will be a next, I'm going to request an upstairs table. While attending my sorority conference my husband was told this was the place to go for some really good food....it was ok. My husband ordered the chicken fried chicken with collard greens, macaroni and cheese. I ordered the neo soul rolls, gouda cheese grits and the andouille chive rice as my meal. Totally LOVED the cheese grits , the rolls was missing something, they were so plaine and I didn't like the rice at all (my husband enjoyed them). The greens were not my cup of tea as they were vinegar base, macaroni and cheese was good but salty towards the bottom. The chicken was delicious! It was well seasoned and juicy. Cornbread was just the way I like it, sweet and moist. Customer service was phenomenal, atmosphere was pleasant and the decor was very nice. Laissez les bon temps rouler - or as they say in New Orleans, "let the good times roll!" My group of friends and I definitely enjoyed our trip to Mango Mangeaux today. Our food, drinks, and waitress were amazing. Let me explain. Upon being seated, we were shown a lot of attention by Danielle - she was really sweet and constantly checked up on us and made sure our water and cocktails and mimosa glasses were filled. The customer service was great. She explained everything on the menu and offered lots of suggestions. I had the orange mango mimosa and it was extremely smooth and tasty. I also got the apple pie mimosa because why not?! It was interesting. It wasn't as flavorful as the other drinks my party ordered but I enjoyed it because I enjoy champagne- which is an acquired taste. My friend said it tasted like "pee." How classy?! It was also garnished with a tasty, dehydrated apple which I thought was a cute accent. I settled on the fish and grits and oh man was it good. The Texas toast with their famous mango preserves was decadent, soft, and thick - the preserves were fresh and sweet! My scrambled eggs were scrambled to perfection with sharp cheddar cheese. My grits were fluffy, buttery and thick, not runny and watery like most places. My snapper was amazing too. It was fried to perfection and almost tasted like fried chicken. It was the best piece of fish I've had in a while. Very satisfying, flaky, and the seasoning and breading had a great crunch. The only setback was the wait time. They were super busy. Also, if you order a drink and you taste it and don't like it - they will still charge you as they don't take back alcohol. I can't believe I haven't written a review sooner. Lol. This establishment has definitely grown in the best way since I was first introduced and I say this in the best way possible! I first came here in 2017, and the food was good, but the customer service was not its best. And tbh, that's pretty much why I stopped going. Who wants to have to wait for bad service full of attitude and wrong orders? Not me! But now... I absolutely love it here! its honestly my favorite Friday brunch spot. The customer service is spot on, they go up and beyond for their customers, and the food and mimosas are always good! The pitcher is so convenient if you're there with a party of 3 or more. I personally prefer to come here for breakfast only because i'm a big brunch/breakfast person. I love the chicken and waffles & fried salmon & grits. The beignets, bomb af! Lol. The portions are perfect. They do also have vegan and vegetarian options. Now, they only serve at different times. So for example: you can only get breakfast through a certain time, lunch at a certain, and dinner at a certain time. You can't just order anything off the menu. I advise you to go through out the week or make a reservation if you really want to go on the weekends. They fill up fast! Had a lovely experience here! Came early (8:50am) because of the reviews, but there wasn't a line on a Monday morning 7/4/22. They seated us even though the full party wasn't there yet, which I thoroughly appreciated. I ordered the MAGNOLiA Shrimp and Grits which was amazing! The butter in the grits is divine! Very rich and flavorful. My parents had The Biggie which was also amazing! Cooked Medium well as asked and very juicy & tender! SERVICE CHARGE! Just an FYI, we had a table of 7 so there was an automatic 18% service charge. We naturally assumed that all of it would go to our server, who was very attentive to all our requests. We added a little more just to make sure she got a little over 20% BUT found out later that it does not all go to her. Some of it goes to the bar, and staff. I wish we would have known that from the beginning because we would have given her more! About 10% goes to the server... I wish they would specify how the service charge is allocated bc normally it should all go to the server. Other than that, would definitely recommend this restaurant! Food was amazing! So once my picky palate was able to get over the no substitution rule but since it's stated on the menu...that didn't take too long, I fell in love with this place. I've been in for breakfast & lunch, both equally satisfying! The portions are hearty but still somehow just right! The ingredients are clearly fresh and the food appears to come from the kitchen with love, just for me. Some of the hostess staff can get sassy at times which can be frustrating when you expect great customer service. The manager, Sheldon was very apologetic and willing to rectify the situation which is why I didn't drop a star. There is sort of an allure about Mango Mangeaux. Maybe it's the name, maybe it's the unique products, maybe it's the appearance on Shark Tank, maybe it's all of the above. After living on the Peninsula for two years, I came with a meetup group, there were 8 of us and thankfully we were at the front of the line, so we didn't have to wait. I really liked the unique mango-esque orange color of the interior, I wouldn't have minded some of that color in my apartment. I ordered a mango iced tea to drink, which came in their own plastic bottle, and I kept it at one since there are no free refills. Three bucks isn't terrible, but I made sure to be careful. I ordered the sweet potato French toast, I got four slices with pecan pralines and covered in powdered sugar. It was fine, a good thickness, pretty flavorful, but the pecans were definitely needed for a contrast in texture. I also got their homemade turkey sausage, because often do you find that on a breakfast menu. It looked really weird, but it had a nice seasoning on it. Our server was incredibly friendly and attentive, had a positive, upbeat attitude despite dealing with a lot of tables. The food did take some time to arrive, but with the restaurant filling up so fast at one time, that's to be expected. The ambience is great, very unique classy style. Food presentation was 5star for me. I had chesapeake bennidict for breakfast. The biscuits were the best i think i ever had in my life. Cripsy on the outside, soft and moist inside and just the right about of salt for taste, however the fried green tomatoes lacked salt. We ate outside. I would give this 5 stars but the service was not the best. Dont get me wrong it definitely wasnt the worst, but they opened 10 minutes late and it took another 10 minutes for our coffee to be brought to the table. When is coffee ever not ready 1st thing in the morning and maybe some of the staff started late or something? When it came i enjoyed it though. :-). And my personal favorite breakfast dish is eggs Benedict...well the chef has truly outdone herself with her world-class Chesapeake Benedict...hands down best eggs Benedict I've had in my life. The mimosa flight is perfection, and I've never had a disappointing bite of food no matter what I've ordered (but the two dishes I mentioned are my absolute favorites). Yes, you might wait for a table, and yes, the food is not as inexpensive as the local greasy spoon down the street, but you're paying for the exceptional quality of ingredients, preparation, and service. I very much enjoyed my mimosa flight and my friends enjoyed their food as well. The staff was extremely nice and made sure we were updated on the status of our orders. When we arrived it wasn't crowded so we didn't have to wait but it was later in the evening if I remember correctly. This restaurant was recommended from one of my daughter's coworker. I'm so glad we decided to try it out. We arrived 15 before opening and there was a line of people waiting outside. I knew that was a good sign. It is a small place, but they use the space very well. I love the decor throughout the restaurant. The hostess was very friendly and provided some information about the menu and how they serve their customers. Our waitress came over and provided some information on some of the menu items since it was our first visit. They are known for their mango preserve. So, we decided to try the mango lemonade and mango sweet tea. They were so refreshing. Perfect balance of mango, lemonade/tea and sweetness. We also ordered the Mango Mango French Toast with a drizzle of the mango fruit dip. It was delicious. I loved the mango fruit dip. While visiting Hampton this week I found this new breakfast spot. The hostess was professional and pleasant. I was seated quickly and all staff members were neatly dressed and all uniforms were clean. I appreciated that. The servers were professional and very aware of the menu items. Food was hot to the touch when delivered and very tasty. Food options were reasonably priced and very tasty. There was careful and considerate thought behind each dish. For example, I ordered the mango French toast. The bread choice was hearty yet soft wheat bread with thick slices packed with flavor!!! The drizzle was perfect and the powered sugar was just enough. I thoroughly enjoyed it. If you're in the Hampton University area visiting or if you're a student, come by. You'll be pleased. I did see the manager of the restaurant make rounds to "a few" guests. He paid special attention to some and made preferences to where they were to be seated. Come see for yourself. read more

At first when my cousin said she wanted to come here for her birthday, I was a little concern...but boi was I wrong. From the ambiance to the food and company, I had a wonderful experience. I had the shrimp and crawfish fondue and it was SUPERB. Then I went light on the entree with a salad and a cup of gumbo. Oh, the gumbo...crabmeat, rice, shrimp and love! It was DELICIOUS. The aesthetic of this place is very cute, the food is sub-par, the mango flavored things are top notch, but not much else. Leaving a poor review because I was really excited to try this place and it was expensive (24 dollars for a mimosa flight) and I could have made a better breakfast myself. Their mango marmalade is amazing with the buttered toast but all the food came out cold after waiting 2 HOURS for our meal. Another person I was with got the chicken fried french toast and it tasted very bland with a small amount of the mango butter. Mimosa's were more juice than alcohol and I don't mind waiting for food, especially during covid times, but I would rather a restaurant be upfront and say we can't seat you because we don't have any staff. read more

I don't recommend this to anyone, they may put on a nice front but the this place has the rudest ppl inside. My daughter went to interview here referred by one of their new chefs to come and work here. My daughter stood outside while the workers inside just looked at her and walked walkway from the door. Once she was able to get in the she was instantly approached with "why are you here, we' re not hiring" my daughter told them she was asked to come there.... The females and males were extremely rude and she ended up leaving and said mom they have major issues. Some customers seem to get preferred seating; NOT US! My husband and I had breakfast Monday, 8/16. We'd been to Mango Mangeau before and expected a relatively long wait time. After about a 20 minute wait, we received a text that our table was ready. We saw a table near the front window, but we were seated at a table against the wall further back. We did ask to be moved to the front table but were told that table was not available. A couple who came in about 15 minutes after us were seated at the table near the window. We've been told in restaurants that tables are held for large groups. But the two people who came in 15+ minutes after us were two people, just like us. The food was outstanding, got the Chesapeake Benedict (16$) and that was the best version of that dish I've ever had. The eggs were poached perfectly, the biscuit was warm & flakey, and you could tell how fresh the crab was from the taste. It came with a side of fruit and their mango dip, which was nice although nothing to write home about. I do wish it had come with more fruit though, just a few melon slices and a couple berries felt bare. Also had their "porky" Bloody Mary (10$) and it was good, although personally I'd have preferred it to have more heat. I thought I had ordered the spicy so there may have been a misunderstanding. I will dock a point for the wait times. It took over an hour for the food to come out. It was a holiday and we were warned ahead of time about the situation, but I still found it hard to believe that two orders of the benedict and a panini should take that long. Simply amazing. My first time going but will NOT be my last. Everyone was friendly and the food was beyond delicious. I had the Chesapeake Benedict. WOW lol. I sopped up every bit of it lol. My boyfriend had the shrimp and grits, now I hate grits but he was bragging on how good they were. I tasted a spoonful and could have eaten the whole bowl. Outstanding restaurant! The city of Hampton is sooo lucky to have a place like this! My twin wanted to come out here to give them a try, and I agreed, since I come to Virginia once a year. It looks like they've revived historic Phoebus neighborhood of Hampton. Anyway, when we got here the place was packed to the brim, so we had quite a wait before we could sit down. It's a good sign to see that its so popular, and I was anxious to see why. I was in a brunchy kind of mood so I went ahead with the quiche and got myself some gumbo to go with it. Now, I do eat alot of quiche, so i have high expectations. The quiche was exquisite and delicious with a generous portion of spinach and artichoke, all snug in a flaky pastry. It came with fresh salad that had an incredible homemade mango dressing as well as fresh fruit that came with this thick dip that i would liken it to a yogurt. I later on got a cup of gumbo, which was amazing. The crab leg sticking out of it was a nice touch. The interior was modern,chic, and made for lounging and relaxing. On that note, bear in mind that its a busy kitchen, and the wait can be long for the food. However, everything comes out fresh and is worth the wait. That being said, if you do plan a trip here, make sure its on a day you're not in a hurry, so you can relax and enjoy the food the way it's meant to be experienced. read more

I'm giving this visit 5 stars ...no question!! The breakfast here..OH.M.GEE!! I came here because this visit has been long over due!! I've made several attempts to catch breakfast hours and always caught the tail end of it and ultimately left disappointed. However on this visit, about a month ago, no worries!! No waiting in line...I did call a few days before to make reservations so everything was all set and we were seated right on time. On this particular Saturday, the restaurant was just starting to get busy it wasn't full to capacity but they had a baby shower event that was going on that was a party of 10 another party of maybe 10 was in the front and a couple of parties of two and three. But again no worries...my mother and I enjoyed a super terrific brunch here!! My mother ordered the mango waffles and I ordered the breakfast meal that has the potatoes and something else with it I don't remember... check out the pictures. Both of the meals that we had were so worthy of 5 Stars yum yum and yum!! Our waitress she wasn't 100% on point, but again noooo worries!! The waitress gave us suggestions on what to order but she recommended pretty much the entire menu because everything in her opinion was good. Nevertheless, our meals were super good... the temperature was perfect!! I left no crumbs on my plate nor did my mother...yes that good!! We also was able to sample the mango preserves which was super yummy as well. I wanted to take the small jar of preserves with me, but they don't allow that!! The mango lemonade it wasn't full of too much flavor but it was okay and I believe there were no refills on the mango lemonade. And the same for the mango tea, no refills. But the flavor was definitely lacking from the tea, a little disappointed. However, there's unlimited water!! The atmosphere, the service, parking...no worries - a great visit! I highly recommend you all stop by soon!! As I was visiting Hampton Virginia my friend recommended this restaurant. The food was superb and our waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly. The waitress knew the menu and recommended popular items based on the questions I asked her. Next time I visit Hampton I will visit Mango again. Again I give our server a 10+. read more
