The service was great, the ambiance is casual with Hispanic music playing. Clean, not too busy when we visited. They have a bar. The food... it is not authentic. It's ok but not real down to earth Mexican. More of a Tex Mex style, lacking flavor. The flour tortillas and chips and salsa were good though. The salsa comes out hot, not a cold sauce. Our waiter and maybe the manager were welcoming. I don't recommend but everybody has different taste buds and mine just aren't Tex Mex when it says Mexican. I came to Manuel's for breakfast and ordered the menudo, and let me just say this soup did more for me than my morning coffee ever could. It's spicy enough to wake you up, hearty enough to fill you up, and bold enough to make you question your life choices (in a good way). The broth has that deep red color that lets you know it's not messing around. The hominy was perfectly chewy, and the tripe? Let's just say it was tender enough that even my abuelita would've nodded in approval. I swear each bite tasted like it had been simmering since last Christmas. Pro tip: don't wear a white shirt unless you're into Jackson Pollock-style food stains. And bring a napkin or 12. In short, Manuel's menudo is not just breakfast, it's an experience. Used to be in our regular rotation when we lived here. Been at least 5 yrs since our last visit and Manuel's has been on our list of "must-eats when back in Houston." Happy to say breakfast was still as wonderful as we remembered! Huge breakfast tacos and I always enjoy the huevos rancheros. We usually start with some queso and refried beans for DIY nachos. Food, service & ambiance all received an F+ rating. As we were seated the air or ventilation was absent. Asked the waiter to turn the air up; i was immediately told only the Manager could turn on the air. Manager was no where on site. Then offered to turn on the dust filled ceiling fan that hovered over our booth. There was a fear of thick dust bunnies falling into our food. Next the meal was cheap and poor chewy beef. Never broke down while chewing it. So we spit it our. The chicken was clearly reheated in a microwave and dried out. The queso was served nearly cold and was not traditional ingredients. The is not a great neighborhood restaurant. I recommend a health inspection soon read more

I honestly can't understand how this place has such a high rating. The food was absolutely terrible. I can't even begin to describe how bad it was. The service? Nothing to be excited about. The enchilada was the worst thing I've had in in my life, barf! Honestly, it was disgusting. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. Please, do yourself a favor and go anywhere else. Especially when their fajitas are better than corporations. Their michelada sauce is bomb - even with Topo Chicos for us non-alcoholic drinkers. It was late, I was hungry, but I didn't feel like driving down the beltway to get to Los Cucos (about 8 mins away). I searched for places nearby and realized I hadn't tried Manuel's Restaurant (3 mins away). It was my first visit to the restaurant. I was greeted and seated upon entry. A waiter approached and took my order. He then placed two small empty bowls and two canisters on the table along with some chips and walked away. I was confused. I thought maybe he had forgotten something and was going to return to complete the task. I looked around, but no one was near to clarify for me. When he didn't return, I assumed I was to complete the task myself. I poured the two sauces into the bowls. I usually go for the green sauces because it's normally some sort of cilantro avocado something, but this sauce was very spicy. I'm not sure what it was and I didn't like it. The red salsa was okay. I personally was not impressed with my order. I'm simple and tend to sway towards a quesadilla. This shrimp quesadilla arrived quickly, but it was pretty limp and mostly cheese. The shrimp that were inside were pretty firm, nothing like I had tasted before. I may give this place another try with a different dish, but I like a sure thing. I'll probably drive the extra 5 minutes for my sure thing. read more

Manuels is not just a restaurant in Summerwood, this family owned establishment is truly part of our community family. The food is fresh, good and consistent and the margaritas are wonderful. But the family takes pride in everything they do and it shows. They are always their to serve the community during hurricanes, Covid, etc. If they have to close, they open up as soon as possible so that their loyal customers will still be able to have something to eat when other surrounding restaurants remain closed. A group of us came here from work upon a recommendation of a co-worker. For starters, there were 10 of us so they were very accommodating in the fact that they had a table set up for us in advance. One of us had talked to them the night before and they were kind enough to have one set up. The queso was typical but good. The chips were fresh. The service was really good. So then, why am I only giving them two stars? Very simply, the Tex-Mex at this establishment is very average. It tasted the same as many other Tex_Mex restaurants that serve the same run-of-the-mill food. Personally, I found it to be kinda blah. I really hate to leave this type of review for a place that went out of their way and provided great service but I can't simply raise the rating when the food truly was meh!! Sorry Manuels. Great local spot where the staff really takes care of you. Would especially recommend the enchiladas, the chilaquiles, or the tortas.

Queso was basically just velveeta, neither salsa was spicy and the red had way too much cilantro, pork (fajitas) was fatty and grisly, service was lousy. It was also highly overpriced for the type of place it is. $50 for two people to eat dinner at a hole in the wall in a strip center in BFE is just nuts. The chips and tortillas were the only things that weren't bad. So disappointing. read more

Nice place to have a good Tex-Méx dinner with the family! Food is always hot. A few months backs I did get chicken mole and was not satisfied with it but other than that all my other dishes have been satisfying! I love their chile reano and my husband loves their enchiladas. Services are always willing to help and friendly! When we ask for extra cheese we don't ever feel it's really extra cheese. So always ask for extra extra if you're a cheese lover like us! The chili rellenos here are excellent, as are the pina colada's. I originally rated the food and service as 5 stars. I dropped the rating because everything else I have tried I have not liked. The tortilla soup is chicken soup with big pieces of chicken and a few tortilla chips added. The chilaquiles I had this morning were nothing more than scrambled eggs with a lot of cheese and some broken tortilla chips added. They obviously have never had true chilaquiles. The bacon and eggs were scrambled eggs with bacon pieces added in. The refried beans are very good, as is the iced tea. We ate maybe 10% of our breakfast and left. We went to the donut shop next door and got lot's of goodies. read more

The service was great! They took really good care of us and worked as a team to be sure we were well taken care of. The food was very average tex-mex. Tortillas pre made...that kind of thing. I prefer Casa Ole's food. Meh.. My parents ordered iced tea and both thought the water it was brewed from was bad. But a sealed coke can and a beer gets around that. Again.. great and friendly service and decent food for the money; however, I will not be back. I feel guilty leaving a score like this because the people were so nice. read more

We're used to eating El Tiempo and haven't found a place that beats it quite yet but were pleased when we found a Mexican restaurant near our new house. The service is alright but the food is very well priced for the fajitas that we always opt for at Mexican places. For 1lb, it's only $20 for beans, rice, tortillas, and guacamole salad. We paid $1 for shredded cheese which we were surprised wasn't included but overall, the price is steal compared to El Tiempo which charges at least twice as much for the 1lb. The best part was the food literally took 5 minutes to come out after we had ordered and tasted great! We had leftovers to take home since we were probably filled up on the complimentary chips with green and red sauce (both good, especially the green sauce). There's free ice cream that's self serve at the door but I didn't enjoy it since it tasted like ice and sugar and wasn't creamy at all like I was expecting ice cream to be but my husband thought it was ok. Will be back next week with the in-laws and definitely will visit here more in the near future! read more
