Sushi Ave is one of my favorite spots to get sushi! It's located inside the Pacific Rim Center and there's complimentary 2-hour parking in the garage. I feel like this place is a "if you know you know" spot. I love how affordable their rolls are compared to other sushi spots I've been to and their seafood is high quality. The workers are friendly and service is quick. It's a smaller restaurant with a couple tables and it seems a lot of their business is takeout orders, but I felt like our food came out quickly despite them working on online orders at the same time. They start you off with the house salad tossed in a miso sesame dressing that I inhale. My boyfriend and I ordered the Creamy Scallop Roll, the Angry Dragon Roll (recommend!) and the 8-piece torch sushi box. For the torch sushi, we picked wasabi tuna, unagi, spicy salmon, and salmon. They're still going through their grand opening currently and it's definitely worth the try. Note that they are closed on Wednesdays. Not only is Sushi Ave delicious, but they're rather affordable! They have specials too, such as their Lunch Special which is any two maki or classic rolls for $10.95, or three for $14.95. I'm a sucker for spicy tuna, so I went with the Red Dragon Roll which has spicy crunch tuna and avocado inside, and fresh tuna with spicy mayo on top. It was delicious! Tasted super fresh and had a great kick to it. I also got a Spicy California Roll which was also really good. Both rolls were paaacked too, they don't skimp on portions here! I also started with a miso soup which was decent. The damage was less than $30 which is pretty solid in my opinion! The restaurant is small but has seating, and the service is really great. Fresh way of preparing sushi- it is a not a one bite piece but at least 2 bites 1.5" x 2.5" perfect rectangles. The flavors are layered into the rice. The presentation is beautiful and tasty. Tried the $16 for any 4 types (8 pieces). It was a perfect amount for me. The torch special has purple rice, shredded coconut and shrimp tempura. It is one of my favorite, especially since purple rice is very flavorful just by itself and nutritious too. The sea sushi and wasabi tuna and unagi was very good as well. Wished their menu provided some description/ingredients :). Ordered the mango smoothies and it was just ok. Not too sweet but the proportion of milk/dairy is too high compared to the mango or mango purée. This place is located on the 2nd of the Pacific Rim building with free 2 hours parking. I do think it's clean, cozy, and feels kinda hidden. A good spot to go with a couple friends or on a casual date as well. Their salmon is so fresh so I usually order that the most. They are also known for their torched sushi which is also really good! You can actually get full here without going broke. Prices are reasonable for the amount you get compared to other sushi restaurants in the area. I'm speechless. Blown away. This is a new favorite and I'm so glad I came. This place replaced Hi B3AR at the Pacific Rim Center, but the signs haven't been completely changed. You'll see pictures of sushi on the exterior, however. If you're not sure, you can also just walk in and ask. The service was also 6/5, you get asked if it's your first time and then the menu is explained to you among everything else that was exceptional. Every item was also presented aesthetically (see photos) which helped set the mood. Indoor seating is a little limited, but it's a new location that not many know about so it shouldn't be a problem for now. #1-3 under signature rolls are the best sellers (seared salmon roll, bake king salmon, bake lobster roll). I'll comment on #1 and #3 later. The Torch Sushi stole the show. Best thing on the menu by far. These torched pieces of nigiri actually have two layers that vary depending on which piece is ordered. Essentially the bottom is a layer of rice, on top of that is a layer of either fish, avocado, etc, with another layer of rice and then the main fish. We got the original salmon, spicy salmon, torch special (white tuna on our visit), zesty shrimp, spicy tuna, and unagi. I'd rank them respectively with the salmons being my favorite items, definitely suggesting those. We were also told that for their bundles, you can order multiple of the same, so that's an option if anyone is interested. We wanted to try a little of everything, though, so we got one of each minus the wasabi tuna and sea sushi. Seared salmon roll was solid, my second favorite item ordered. I'm a big salmon guy, however, so there may be some bias. The shrimp tempura inside was a nice supplement to the salmon. Bake lobster roll was also really good! However, it's a bit heavy as the rolls have imitation crab meat and lobster tagged on top. Super filling, so worth keeping in mind depending on your appetite. Lastly, the Sushi Ave Special was interesting. I enjoy how the outer wrap is salmon, but I think there's too much mayo for my liking. Aesthetically pleasing, but from a consumer perspective it's questionable to me (your mileage may vary). I took some mayo off myself and it tasted good, but it is inconvenient to do so). Heard of a new sushi place in Chinatown - ID so decided to check them out. We ordered a few rolls: California roll - pretty standard Torched salmon sushi - needs to be more torched but decent. I like that there's 2 layers of salmon so each piece is like 2 pieces. Mt. Fuji - such an interesting combination. Avocado, shrimp tempura, coconut shreds and sauce. The coconut flavor definitely dominated but also love the balance. Baked lobster roll - this is a bang for your buck in my opinion. They give a lot of meat on top that it's hard to see where each pieces are. Not sharing - friendly and a little messy but still really good and flavorful Jade roll - light and refreshing and I love the cucumber giving a cooling effect of the sashimi inside. Honestly I think Sushi Ave is quite understated for tasty rolls. Located at the Pacific Rim Center building, this area tends to get lost in the shuffle of all yummy things the Chinatown International District has to offer. There's free 1-2 hour parking in the garage, and the restaurant is located on the second floor. They are one of the rare spots that offers torched sushi, and I want to go back and give them a try. I ordered the baked lobster roll, seared salmon roll, and the dragon king, which is tempura and unagi roll. They make the rolls on the spot so I had to wait a little while, but the taste was so worth it. The baked lobster was tasty, but the base is just a California roll, so unless you love lobster, i might skip that one. But the seared salmon and unagi was amazing. As far as flavor goes, at one point in the meal, the rolls all started to blend with each other and taste like the same thing. Between two hungry people, these three rolls were definitely enough. Tea is an extra $2.50 I believe, and our total rounded out to just about $50 after tax & tips. Service was attentive, and there was no one else dining in when we visited, so it's pretty lowkey. I really enjoyed this place and their courteous service! There weren't many people on a Sunday afternoon but a friend recommended their torched sushi and I had to try it. One thing I didn't think was clear enough from the menu is that their torched sushi box is chefs choice so even though I wanted to try the unagi, I couldn't make that request. In any case, I'm glad at how it all turned out because every piece was delicious - my favs though were the spicy tuna and the saba (mackerel). All of the pieces had this slight smokyness to them, coupled with fatty fish, a sauce and a layer of crunch, you really cannot go wrong with any option chosen in my opinion. For what it's worth: I've seen other reviews talk about the rice cube being quite thick, but what I failed to notice was the fact they get stuffed with something like tempura or more veggies, hence the side angle for my pic so you can get a nice full view (it's not all just 1 block of rice and a slice of fish!). The edamame was well salted and the seaweed salad was standard but the whole table enjoyed them. The hand rolls were good but I felt like they were a bit hard to bite a piece from without looking savage. The flavor on the lobster hand roll made me forget about that mild annoyance though. There are not really any places like this that offer torched sushi, and not only is the quality up there, but also it is of very great value! Most of the business is takeout / delivery, but for sushi, I am a firm believer of immediately consuming it for the maximum freshness, so I opted to dine in. Although it was a bit weird to be the only customer dining in, it was well worthwhile. A jug of water is placed on my table, along with a menu and an interesting jug that contains soy sauce. I ordered the $20 for 6 kinds (x2 pieces per type) with spicy tuna, original salmon, unagi, zesty shrimp, spicy salmon, and torch special (which they say it was white tuna with tempura shrimp). All the fish were fresh, despite the general assumption that having a lot of sauce on top of something is used mask staleness. Although aesthetically, they only place a small amount of seafood in a large bed of rice, they actually have a mix of the respective fish inside the rice hidden, and/or some cucumber and avocado depending on the piece. I personally liked the torch special due to the uniqueness, the shrimp for the texture, and the spicy salmon for the taste as I always love salmon. The only minor flaws I had were the tempura was not particularly crunchy, and some pieces were slightly overtorched, but it fortunately only brought the smoky flavor even more than tasting the bitterness of burnt food. I was pretty satisfied at the end of the meal, and it is definitely worth a visit because this is one of very few torched sushi places I have heard of, and they actually do it pretty well.
