Seriously, I've sugar daddy'ed a friend's meal here simply because I wanted him to have the Ma'ono Fried Chicken experience unabated. The chicken is, dare I say it, Chick-Fil-A juicy and crispy. The complements: sauce, lettuce, pickles, do a great job of balancing out the punch-your-mouth seasonings. Plus, the King's Hawaiian bun (read: yep, bun versions of the sweet rolls in orange packaging you all know and love) tie up a nice ribbon on the already intensely satisfying flavor profile. Crazy good chicken. Ma'ono has the best chicken I've had in Seattle. You get to choose between three types of chicken, be if strips, drumsticks or on a sweet bread as a sandwich. You can then chose the level of spice based on preference. I recommend getting a single order of fries per two people since it's so large! The one downside is the tight quarters for ordering as the window is scrunched between a table and the bar of RGB. And for the sides, there are french fries, cucumber poke, and potato mac salad. There are 5 levels of spiciness that you can choose from for the fried chicken. I had the medium chicken sandwich and my friend had the hot which is 4 stars out of 5. Order the medium heat!! It is spicy still and very balanced! The hot is WOW! Burn your face off so I can't imagine someone ordering the very hot! The drink ordering and food ordering is awkward because they are sharing a spot with RGB and difficult if RGB has a line. If you're looking for a fulfilling meal in U Village, this is the place to go. Not only is the atmosphere inviting and enjoyable, the food is exquisite. I came here yesterday at around 4 pm, and only waited a little under 5 minutes for my food after ordering. But my coworker went around 1:30 and said the wait was about 20 minutes, so just be wary of waiting times. Nevertheless, the wait is worth it for this incredible food. I just got the fried chicken sandwich with no spice, because it was my first time. When I got it, I took it to my car, opened it and was completely in awe of what I saw. The buns are slightly sweet and buttery; the fried chicken is the perfect ratio of crisp on the outside and tender on the inside; the sweet pickle they use is so incredible, I couldn't get enough. This was by far one of the best things I've ever tasted in my life - and I don't say that often. I was so in awe and in love, I had to send my sister and mom multiple texts of how good it was and pictures of me eating. A good chicken sandwich. Very filling. The chicken is tasty, not greasy. The bread is a good, cant go wrong with Kings Hawaiian. The daikon pickles add great flavor. However, we have been here about ten times or more and they aren't always consistent with their spice level. My husband had the hottest level one time and he could barely handle it, then the next time he ordered that spice level, it was very manageable. He even asked the worker if they got his order right and they said yes. I recently ordered mild spice and tasted absolutely no heat and I'm pretty sensitive to spicy foods. They have a very limited menu but what they do is very good! There are spice heat levels from none to xxx-hot. But back to the sandwich; the medium level of spicy was perfect, a nice kick but not distracting from the actual flavors of the food. Intrigued by the chocolate pudding on their menu but didn't order it b/c a sandwich and fries (with no drink and a moderate tip) is already $20 or damn near. I'd say worth going if you're nearby. I'd try again. But for this to be 5 stars I'd need them to step the fries up a bit, maybe a special seasoning or waffle-ify them. Oh, and the location was a quest to find; nothing on the univ. village website directory/map that I could find, we wandered for 15 minutes before we managed to ask a person who happened to know where it was, tucked inside the corner of Rachel's Ginger Beer. Ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich - medium spice and it was brought out to me fresh and hot in about 10 minutes. Typically not into spicy food but I do enjoy good hot fried chicken so I ordered the medium spice fried chicken based on reading how spicy the HOT can get. Medium spicy wasn't too bad until the end when the spice finally kicked up. The chicken itself was cooked PERFECTLY! A thick piece of chicken that was moist on the inside and a great crunch on the outside. The potato bun and fixins inside made for a perfect sandwich. Also ordered the MAC & CHEESE with HATCH CHILES but you can forego that as it wasn't anything special. (Minus 1 star for the mac & cheese) Excited for my next trip back to Seattle so I can stop by Ma'ono to get my fix of delicious hot fried chicken again! read more
