I love Indian food, and I was very happy with the buffet here. I tried everything-- it was all so good! I definitely recommend trying the chai tea. The only suggestion would be to cook the chicken a little bit longer... I got a big piece in one of the dishes and I'm not sure it was tender enough. Those of us in Goshen have waited for a long time for an Indian restaurant. What a pleasant surprise that it turned out to be as good as it is. The business plan is good--reasonably priced buffet at noon and menu in the evening for those who like their food individually prepared. I usually do the buffet but have had the Thalis in the evening (that's where you get a bunch of small plates--veggie or meat). They make their on paneer and the naan is good and hot. The owners are genuinely nice folks who are working hard to provide the town with a quality Indian food experience. The town has rewarded them for their efforts. Good service yes but the food was awful. I ordered shrimp masala. The rice was shoveled from the buffet and was cold and dry almost hard. The shrimp was nowhere near fresh. The sauce was tasteless. I'm here to edit my review with some positive changes. The buffet seems to have improved a lot -- more spice, less salty. I was blown away at how good it was. A lady in a pretty sari is usually around now to explain what the food is. - Dinner here was fantastic, albeit on the pricy side. I have mixed feelings towards the buffet. I've found it too salty and with too much chicken. The staff is so-so. Often the waitresses are not acquatined with what's on the menu, or overwhelmed, but it's still fairly new and I hope things improve. The naan has been hit or miss -- sometimes it's burnt. read more

Disclaimer we went to the buffet, which seams to get almost all positive revues but haven't tried for dinner, but the buffet certainly didn't disappoint. I would say that the buffet could compete with most of the options on Devon Street as far as quality of food goes. The selection on the buffet, while somewhat limited in quantity of different items, still managed a pleasing diversity. For the service, I didn't see what most reviewers were talking about. The place wasn't filled to capacity but I would say it was well over half full with a few larger parties. There were to gals working the front of the house and both were attentive, accommodating, and knew what they were talking about when we asked them questions. The price points are in line with the quality of food you get on the buffet and if the dinner service/food is in line with what we experience with the buffet it would easily be worth it. I can only comment on the lunch buffet which I've visited three times. If you've never had Indian food before, then it's a good place to start. However, if you've eaten Indian food in a big city, the Middle East or India, then you are up for a so-so experience as the flavors are catered to a very mild, Midwestern palate. Nevertheless, I'm glad there's an Indian restaurant with affordable prices and friendly service in the area, and I'll be back to try the dinner menu to see what more they have to offer. read more

I grew up in Goshen and come back regularly to visit family. I've lived in Seattle, Houston, Rochester, NY, and Long Island, and Maple City Indian would be a solid Indian restaurant in any of these more competitive markets. Goshen is lucky to have this restaurant and it's been a long time coming. I surely hope that people give it a fair chance. The buffet is well worth it, and less expensive than others I frequent that are of the same quality. The Tandoori chicken is a dish everyone likes, and they do that really well. But I haven't found a stinker on their menu yet. You can bring a group in and order a variety and you'll have a great meal. This is a mom and pop operation, and they're working hard to make it go. It's great to see a family operation like this do well, and I hope Goshen will will support this restaurant. read more

First of all, if I was only rating the taste and quality of the food, it would get 5 stars hands down. The reason for the 4 stars is three-fold; it's just getting up and running, and it's just getting up and running in truly typical Indian fashion. I say this with great affection, having been born in India and spending the better part of my first 11 years there, and having returned twice since my folks left the mission field. For those in the know...jai hind! The third fold is the rather negative review which preceded this one, and made me realize I couldn't really give it the 5 stars I wanted to...at least not yet. India runs on a different time frame and with different emphases on what's important. (the punch line of one of my favorite jokes was an Indian fellow responding to the concept of Mexico's "manyana"..."we have something like that, but nothing that conveys the same sense of urgency".) So when things didn't go right (I was one of those at the "table next to us" of the bad review), and the wrong food was brought, it just felt like "jai hind" (loosely, "Glory to India, Victory to India"), which was something we'd say facetiously/sarcastically when something typically Indian (and wrong) happened (something broke, or was patched together in Rube Goldberg or duct tape fashion, or something arrived 2 days later than promised, or the electricity went out [again], etc.). There is no doubt that the gentleman at the next table was correct in his observations, but after pushing the opening back for approximately 2-3 months, in 2-3 week increments---("When are you opening?" "Oh, 2-3 weeks." "Oh, OK." Jai hind!)---I think the owners just sucked it up and opened, even if they didn't feel quite ready. (Seems they didn't realize they were opening on a First Friday. Oops. Jai hind!) So yes, there are definitely things that need to be addressed, and are, and will be. Things like getting dishes to ALL the tables in a timely (and American) fashion. Things like not enough serving spoons, and none in the condiment dishes on the tables (I think the musical condiments aspect will be addressed, although in India no one would bat an eye at such sharing). A baby in the kitchen...no one would notice in India, as businesses are generally family affairs. Cartilage in the chicken...how 'bout a neck or foot or head (all things you might find in Chicken Curry over there.) Then again, this is the US. They definitely needed more servers, and the hostess was actually a wait person in training, who was not yet familiar enough with the dishes to be used as a server (her words, not verbatim). Both times we've been there, the waitress (who's also an owner), seemed pretty frazzled, and needed more help than she either anticipated or had. . I'm almost positive these are growing pains, and will smooth out over the course of the next few months, and a better rhythm will be established, resulting in hotter food and fuller water and soft drink glasses, and a spoon for every pot. (On the plus side, pictures are going up, and the ambiance is slowly improving!) Until then, go in with a Jai hind attitude, and enjoy the taste of the food, which for me was the be-all and end-all, and which wildly exceeded my expectations. No "one sauce into which we put various vegetables and/or meats and call them different curries" here; each dish had its own character and spicing, the chef was obviously good at what he did and liked doing it, and the variety, especially when ordering from the menu, is excellent. When all the "bugs" are worked out (no, no puns there), this is going to be a restaurant that people talk about and travel distances to come to...a restaurant worthy of the vibrant downtown in which it's ensconced. Goshen ki Jai! Jai Hind! And that one is said with full conviction and no facetiousness...and definitely no sarcasm.. read more

We went on a Friday evening. The menu is HUGE!! Our waitress didn't have a lot of knowledge about the food she was serving, wasn't really able to recommend anything other than what she was primed to. When the vegetable platter appetizer came out, I asked her what each thing was and she didn't know! She definitely needs to educate herself on what she is serving. This is the reason for 4 stars vs 5. The food, however, was excellent. The vegetable appetizer platter we had was very very tasty and just enough for two people. I had the tikki masala which was really good. We had roti which was also good. We had a complimentary portion when we sat down and then ordered more because it was so good. One of the owners was out visiting tables and was very personable and the host when we cashed out was very friendly and asked specific things about our meal which showed interest on her part, more so then you see at a lot of restaurants. My husband and I decided we need to come back and do the buffet so we can try more dishes and know better what to order next time. The restaurant was very clean. Came here for dinner a few months ago. The food was delish but not enough! Everything was tasty we ate every grain of rice, morsel of chicken, and was sopping up the gravy with the naan because the portion was just TOO SMALL. We are not big eaters. Plus I was told I could easily share my dish with my 2.5 year old - chaaa I don't think so! Wish I would have order his own plate like I was going to do based on the info I got from other yelpers. And I know some of you are wondering why we didn't order more food?? Like the previous review, I would echo the sentiment that the food itself is a 5 star experience - while I am not particularly well-versed in the intricacies of Indian cuisine, the spices, and things like that, I can tell that the food I received from my order, as well as the group I was with was quite excellent. The portions were quite reasonable, and there was enough left over from being full to eat a decent-sized leftover lunch the next morning. The dishes were appropriately spiced, and while some of them could have been spicier for my own personal taste (and we later found out that you can request dishes to be spicy; which I will likely do next time), they seemed appropriate for the small-town Midwest setting. Rice was cooked perfectly, and all of the dishes were flavorful and unique. I was with another individual who stated that she thought that the food was one of the best she has had for Indian cuisine as well, and she is more versed in the cuisine standards than myself. The service remains a work-in-progress, and I hope to be returning to the restaurant in the upcoming weeks to see hopefully some improvement in this department. There was only one waitress/hostess at the time of our dinner, which slowed things down when the place filled up into our stay. After ordering, we did not see the waitress again until our food came out, and likewise we had to wait a while for waters to be refilled - which is a necessary service when eating spicy food! Picking up the check was a bit confusing as well, since you go up to the register as opposed to waiting for the bill to drop; this unfortunately increased the time the hostess spent on existing customers, rather than helping new customers to a table. This wouldn't have been a problem if there weren't large parties that were piling up in the entrance outside. The length the food took to come back wasn't too bad, but I know that there a number of parties in the restaurant who all seemed to be waiting for food, for a while. When somebody got the wrong order, this was corrected quickly by the cook himself, and handled very professionally. Haven't tried the lunch buffet, but if the food itself is anything as good as the dinner food was, then it should be a 5 star experience At this point, it is worth it for the food alone - if you are not in the mood to allow few logistical snafus or willing to be a bit patient for some good food, then wait a few more weeks to try this place. I will be returning, to hopefully keep this place around Goshen, and to make it into a long-lasting local staple. A quality local Indian restaurant has been a long time coming for Goshen, and it seems as though the results are looking in our favor! read more

I have been to Maple Indian Cuisine a handful of times. I have been with my spouse, parents and friends. Everything I've had I liked. My table mates also enjoyed their meals. You can get your dish mild, medium or hot so everyone can get the food tailored to their own palate. Unless someone your with will only eat a burger and fries there should be something for everyone. There are many vegetarian choices. The lunch buffet is a good deal and let's you try a variety of dishes so you can find out if you like Indian food. We have never had bad service but it has never been crowded. I did notice one of the servers taking a break today at lunch time and having a plate of food so I think that is a good sign as to the quality. I like to support locally owned mom and pop restaurants and I like this one and hope they can stay around a while. read more

On top of liking Indian food this place came highly recommended. We finally got a chance to visit. However, it was recommended by a lunch buffet patron and when we went this evening we waited to be seated for over 15 minutes. Some time after waiting a couple nudged past us as they were leaving and he said something about eating hot dogs for supper. Looking around the corner where they were sitting, it looked like they never had an opportunity to order and decided to leave after waiting too long. We waited a little longer but when at least five tables were empty and cleaned up and we were crowded out into the restaurant as many more people came in and were waiting, we left to go for a walk and come back when less busy. About 1/2 hour later we came back and the restaurant was over half empty, we walked in and there was a line waiting to be seated. We waited a few minutes and when no one was seated, we decided to leave and go to El Camino Real for a dependable meal. Very disappointing. They really need to plan to have extra staff on busy nights. These can generally be predicted. read more
