We had such a sweet young man come over to our table to check on us to make sure the food was ok and check in on us countless times and be sure to take away anything we were finished with. So sweet and thoughtful. We ordered the pulled pork, and the smoked chicken. The chicken was very dry (but the outside was very crispy and this was great). The pulled pork was lacking a lot of flavor. It was nice though to know we were eating good meat as it was not fatty. The sauces they provide are delicious. Personally, I would add a little more hot sauce to a future order. I would most certainly be back as opposed to going to the chain restaurants in the area. I believe in supporting local businesses. Macaroni and cheese did not taste like macaroni and cheese. More-so like a pasta salad. Would have been nice to have been baked. The potato salad was ok. I'll start off by saying, this place is really clean and neat... customer service is beautiful, friendly staff, being an out-of towner for work purposes, I'm a huge BBQ snob, I've been all over the world and ate bbq from some of the "best of the best in the world" the meats are smoked, juicy, tender, just mouth watering melt in your mouth 10/10 there... however the sides are very bland, the Mac and cheese honestly kinda just taste like a cheaper boxed white cheddar Mac and cheese... the sweet potatoes were also bland, really no flavor there... for 27$ I expected a lot more food, quality in the sides and portions to be slightly bigger... back home I can feed 4 people off 35$ combo platter.... So so so so good! We were camping nearby and decided to get some bbq for dinner. We had the Texas brisket sandwich - juicy slices of brisket with caramelized onions and cheddar were a great combo. We also tried the two meat platter. The pastrami was amazing! Such good flavor. The pulled pork was good, especially with a little of the spicy bbq sauce. The sauces were more vinegar based and delicious. The sides were good as well. I was obsessed with the smoked beans and the coleslaw. We washed it down with a nice sangria and a bourbon lemonade. You order inside at the register, then they give you a table number (you can choose to sit inside or outside). We chose to sit outside because it was a nice day. They then bring your food out to you. The crew at Maple Tree do an amazing job and everything is on point from the food, atmosphere and customer service. I stopped in on a Taco Tuesday and got the pulled chicken taco, smoked salmon taco, brisket taco, and a side of the burnt ends to try the BBQ. The food was really good but the burnt ends were probably some of the best I've ever had. I also had a local IPA which was great. I have been wanting to try this place for quite a while. I ventured out to the outlets this evening and finally had my chance, since it's not too far away. My partner and I parked across the street, and walked inside and were warmly greeted by the staff. With the help of the staff we were able to select some perfect sauces for our food. I went with the pulled chicken slider with a spicy bbq sauce, a pulled pork taco with sweet bbq sauce (and some of that bama sauce I read so much about in the reviews, on the side) herb crushed potato's to share and he decided to go with 6 smoked wings in the bama sauce. Right away I noticed the chicken was juicy and flavorful. Not dry at all. The sauce had a kick, which I LOVE. It wasn't too spicy at all. Next time I think I'll get some more on the side. The pulled pork taco had so much flavor and the sauce accompaniment was perfection. I will definitely order that again, no questions asked. My fiance absolutely loved the smoked wings, he looked me dead in the face and said these wings are incredible, they have to be the best wings I have ever had. That's a huge compliment coming from him too. He is so picky about everything. He didn't have one thing to say tonight! He was too busy enjoying his food! He said the bama sauce is his new favorite. We both loved the herb crushed potato's, which the super sweet staff described as a cross between mashed potato's and crushed potato's. I saw the resemblance. Very tasty. Shout out to the staff. We arrived about 10:30am and by the time we ordered, holy moly the place filled up completely. Favorite was the pork ribs, and least favorite was prob the brisket. Awesome spot! Didn't even though there was anything BBQ related within 30 miles of the east end but stumbled upon Maple Tree and it was great. Staff was super friendly on the phone for my pickup and helpful and accommodating in person too :). We got the pulled chicken tacos and brisket tacos which were both 10/10. The chili was also very good and the Bama wings were absolutely money. Most importantly in this climate, I saw they offer curbside pickup, everyone was wearing a mask, and overall the Maple staff was very respectful of the social distancing guidelines. My old review is that of a shining light in Riverhead past as the place has since changed hands and changed its game plan too. This is not to say Maple Tree isn't good anymore. Now where they let me down is in the two things I've been raving about for the past 4 years (yes it's been that long since I've been able to come back and about as long as they've been under new ownership) the pastrami is good and I've always said the saltier the better but it takes a big man to admit when he's wrong and boiiiiiii was I wrong; the salt content almost makes the smoke content taste injected... I know that's a strange statement but that's how it struck me, the Mac n cheese is tm your standard southern bbq spot Mac n cheese which never thrills me but never surprises me in any sort of negative way either. The biggest upset from my previous 5star love of years ago is hands down the baked beans. In the past I'd stop there solely for the pastrami and beans, they were the best things I've ever tried. The baked friggen beans of all things... they blew me away- but these beans. They are actually the worst beans I've ever tasted; mealy, bland base yet sweetened up with a thin and runny liquid.... not a fan I'd go back to try more as the sauces were pretty good but I'd have a hard tome ordering anything but those smoke wings! I came with my wife and daughter for our first experience, which was awesome!!! The place is small and casual. Their menu is on the chalkboard and is extensive including ribs, chicken, brisket sides etc. We ordered 2 southwest salads with chipotle dressing with a side of pulled pork and pulled chicken. The ladies enjoyed them fully. I had the half rack of ribs which were nice and large and fell off the bone. Their smokey flavor was amazing with their dry rub. We also ordered medium stuffed of baked beans and mac n cheese. Both were delicious and enough to share between the 3 of us.
