    417. Orange Chicken (White Meat) 橙皮鸡

Saw this on Yelp and had on my list of places to visit. I ordered the Orange Chicken lunch and my guest ordered Mongolian Beef lunch special. The lunch items comes with cup of soup and a spring roll. Delicious lunch and outstanding service. Give this place a try, we definitely will be back!

Somehow Mapo flies under the radar for Chinese cuisine in the burbs. Locals will appreciate the authentic menu options and Sichuan dishes. Interior is warm and inviting. It's in the same plaza as H Mart but on the side by Wendy's. Lots of parking. Contrary to popular belief, not everything on the menu is spicy, but Mapo does specialize in these types of dishes. My table was a big fan of the fried eggplant, but I loved the cumin lamb as did everyone else with me. Service is great and attentive. Water was always refilled and water asked if everything was okay. Glad I came back and gave this another chance.

It's clean. It's delicious. Note: The Jajangmyun is very Peking and NOT Korean. I hate it. But it's my own fault cuz they did explain that to me and I'm just a dummy. Note: The Japanese style Salt and Pepper Tofu is my absolute favorite and delicious. Just beyond my words. The service is very nice... I never feel rushed. And just yeah. A great spot to have a meal. They have a lot for parking.

Mapo Restaurant is truly a hidden treasure in Naperville. When my husband and I visited with a few friends, we found it in a small strip mall with bad signage. It appeared to be the only business operating there. The restaurant looks like your typical Chinese restaurant from the inside and outside. What is special about this restaurant is the quality of the food. Everything is prepared fresh and tastes like a lot of time and attention was put into it. We ordered the cumin lamb skewer and crab ragoon for appetizers. This was the best crab ragoon I've ever had. It was sweet and creamy. We ordered several entrées. My favorites were the orange beef and the honey lemon shrimp. I highly recommend Mapo Restaurant. You'll be happy that you took the time to find it.

Excellent variety of dishes the chefs here can make. There are a couple stand outs. Quality- the hou fun, peppercorn fish, calamari, duck, and lemon/orange shrimp here are really good. I'm also a big fan of the beef tendon and most fish dishes here. Quantity- they give a generous portion for the price Atmosphere- nice clean open place. Lots of seating options Service- fast

The food here usually tastes good however this time around we had a poor experience. The dishes were not as clean and had food marks and spicy cabbage that was served at the table had a strand of hair. The rest of the meals were way more spicy than usual. Maybe the chef changed.

This is actually a very decent Chinese restaurant in Naperville. Way less busy than Minghin and more than enough parking. Service was good and attentive. Restaurant is very clean. I've been here a few times. I didn't take any pictures at the time. Any kind of pork belly you get, you'll get a lot of flavor. Please eat it with rice. Basil flavored eggplant cake had some spice to it but not too much to make it unenjoyable. Crispy duck is always a must. They give you some very meaty pieces, the skin gives you that nice crunch. If you're going to come here, at least try to order some other than the typical fried rice, egg rolls, crab rangoon. Makes me cringe.

Finding ourselves in the area quite a bit, we've been eyeing this spot for sometime now and finally made our way to give it a try. Service was good. Restaurant was spotless. Food is pricier than I had expected and with that I found myself nitpicking. Seafood soup was on the saltier side. The stir fried noodles had good flavors yet noodles were too crispy. Really enjoyed the tofu w/ fish filet. Beef tendon w/ veggies and lamb w/ peppers were both good. Anyways portions I could argue that they could be larger for the price. That's all I got on this one. 'Til next time, cheers!

Casual Chinese dining. Food: we got a variety of things. 1. Stir fry eggplant with pork: this was eggplant stir fried with pork and some garlic sauce. It was a bit too salty and mushy but overall the flavor was pretty good. 2. Dongpo Pork Hock: this was pork hock with chili sauce. It was just all sauce and no pork flavor, as if they just dumped the sauce on top without marinading the pork. The meat was surprisingly dry even though it fell off the bone well. 3. Dry chili three delight: this was salt and pepper shrimp, scallop, squid, and fish fillet. This was my favorite dish, it was crispy and delicious to eat. The bit of spice was just the right amount. Service: very fast service and food came out very fast as well Ambiance: casual dining, very family friendly

Review from 2016. Came here since there are very few Chinese restaurants in Illinois. Someone recommend this place to have authentic Chinese food...Sadly I was quite disappointed in the quality. The restaurant setup with the large round tables and middle spinner table is certainly very Chinese, but that's pretty much it. The food has strange flavors that I have never tried (I am Chinese). Most things were soggy and overly drenched in sauce. Nothing like the Chinese/Taiwanese restaurants on the coasts. Overall: if you are looking for authentic delicious Chinese food, keep looking...

I ordered online for carry out and the platform was easy to navigate. Once my husband and I arrived at the resto we were greeted by a very kind staff member. Our food wasn't ready but within 5 mins of us being there it was good to go. We tried the wonton soup and chicken dumplings app. Both were on the bland side. Normally I'm used to wonton soup also having noodles and theirs does not. Flavors were OK, felt like both dishes were missing spices. Everything was cooked perfectly though. Maybe we ordered the wrong items from here and need to try others instead.

In my experience, this signifies either the place was going to be a shithole to pass up, or it was a serious place to eat, then get out and go somewhere with an atmosphere. Happy to say J's (IMHO) is a serious place to eat. No-nonsense, direct and to the point. When I walked in, all those common chairs I mentioned were stacked upside down on the tables in the way that places do when they are closed. The taciturn fellow who worked there assured me they were indeed open, and explained they had just finish washing the floor. Please dont read any of this as negative-the best Chinese places I've ever been have looked like this-and if you've paid attention to the Travel/Food shows on the TeeVee, the joints in China itself are pretty much the same. On to the food, know this place is a Serious REAL-DEAL Chinese resto. I didn't notice if there were "Occidental" Chinese-type dishes on the carte, (primarily 'cos I wasn't looking for them). What I saw looked yum, and had a hard time making choices, even though I had read the menu multiple times and thought I know what I was going to order in advance. Confessionately, this is a chief feature for my tortured dining self-It's a wonder I even get fed in restaurants (especially the great ethnic ones), due to option anxiety. I zeroed in on "Street Noodles" for starters-wouldn't you? Then went to "Cold Beef Shank" for entreé. The Noodles were fab as was the Shank. The noodles were in a broth. with some hunks of bok choy and ground meat on top. Hearty, still light. The shank had a thin sauce complimenting but not obscuring the beefiness. One bugaboo: the Shank needed a bit of seasoning, and I wasn't going to use soy sauce, as I believed that would have marred the subtle flavors of the Beef. I asked for a salt shaker. It arrived, and I was a little taken back, 'cos it appeared it hadn't been washed in a while, and the salt inside was caked. It occurred to me this condition was present due to the non-use of said shaker. I don't think I've ever asked for a salt shaker in a Chinese resto. I pulled a toothpick out of my "Murse" and broke up the caked NaCl. Applying same to the pieces of Shank, the flavor bloomed and I was a happy boy. Bring some salt packets along when you visit "J's", maybe. The fellow who was waiter and cashier was a "western" fellow, whom I engaged and turned out to be quite an experienced foodie. some pleasant conversation indeed. Throwing 4 for this excellent establishment, with a few grains of salt separating it from 5...

The eggs rolls had very little inside them, but were pleasant enough fried dough. All of the chicken dishes seem to have a pressed chicken--not sliced or real chicken. Pleasant enough, but kind of strange. The Almond Ding had separate almonds, which was nice and Chick with peadpods appeared to have a little bit of real mushrooms and some real pea pods in it--but they lacked fresh flavor. The sauce is very bland, and kind of like a globby-like texture. There's a lack of any Chinese vegetables. No Bok Choy, no bamboo shoots, very few water chestnuts, no green pepper. Just tons of pressed chicken, and a bland white sauce. My husband's Orange Chicken was supposed to be hot but was not. It was pleasant but same pressed chicken now breaded (much better cover for pressed chicken). Lack of veggies in all the dishes. Would we go back? Probably not. Ended up throwing half of it away. Honestly, Panda Express is probably just as good which is kind of sad.
