Wow! The food is amazing! The salsa is different. It's not like other salsa's you get at other Mexican restaurants. It's good. They make their own chips which are warm and crispy. Portions are huge and prices are reasonable. This is our new favorite Mexican restaurant in Lubbock! read more

This place came highly recommended to me, and what a disappointment. Greasy, flavorless food. The beef in the queso wasnt strained, so the queso had a thick layer of grease on top. Other than the grease, there was no flavor to the queso. I had the mole enchiladas which again had zero flavor. Mole should be rich and full of complex flavor, not just warm brown sauce. Salsa was... interesting, but again, had no flavor. Will not be back. read more

I grew up by Mexico in a small border town with grandparents who lived in Mexico. So I really know real Mexican food. On a scale from Tex-Mex to Authentic I would give it a 8.5 ! The beans here taste just like my grandma makes them , the flour tortillas are homemade and not store bought . That's a plus ! I ordered the Parrillada for one with chicken and beef . Great combo , the plate came with salad , beans , rice and guacamole. The guacamole is fresh just like the salsa verde . They also have seasoning for the chips which is great ! They offer aguas frescas like Jamica y horchata . Overall the service was very fast and friendly. Would come back again ! Prices are also great ! read more

I come at least once a week I love this place this is my go to for tacos and enchiladas I Dislike Texas food there is no real Mexican places here at all that are real authentic Mexican food besides this one ..and the one on Q I forgot the name. But if you want some good tacos come here they are not greasy at all. read more

Terrible slow service. Hello we're here waiting...still waiting. We were seated rather quickly. Didn't do much good because we continued to wait at the table. A solid 12 mins passed before the hostess noticed we hadn't been given water when she was seating another table. She walked over to remind the waitress we were there. It was not that busy. Meanwhile our waitress had restocked chips and salsa to a table with two guys she was chit chatty with and giggling with. I know your young and cute but I have hangry kids. Finally she got the drink order and given the Time it took to get drinks I put in the appetizer order at the same time. She seemed annoyed I was breaking protocol but took it. I asked for the fresh drinks of the day and she read the list but it tasted as if the lemonade was not fresh but powdered. The strawberry lemonade was better. Next we waited and waited for chips 27 mins later we got the queso, guacamole and 2 little tiny salsas but no chips...we waited to flag down another waitress for chips. I have two teen boys and a 5 year old and that one little bowl of chips the size of a small salad bowl didn't last for a table of 5 and neither did the tiny salsa serving so less than 5 mins later we needed more chips and salsa and the wait continues. 15 mins before anyone even notices us and again it's the hostess that brought us the chips. She apologizes for delay and no one has refilled our drinks. I explained I don't mind paying for chips. Yes this places charges for chips and salsa. So finally get an extra salsa. We order and the wait continues another 35 mins. I don't mind waiting for food when it's fresh but I don't like meals coming in pieces. Caldo was delicious but had to wait 5 mins just to get my corn tortillas. My son got his chorizo and egg but had to wait for flour tortillas. My husband has a big platter but had to wait for sides and tortillas. Everyone got the meal incomplete and we all got our plates at different times. I was first with a good 5 minute lag for my teens to get their meals. Then 10 mins later my husband and by then the 5 year old was upset. He received his plate last i was almost done with my soup at that point. As we were finishing they finally brought us the Grilled jalapeños we ordered. No refills unless I flagged the hostess. The food is good so clearly the chef is doing his job and the hostess was doing a lot more than I've ever seen a hostess do. She waited on us more than our server. Some of the girls were chatting away at the refreshment area while the hostess walked around checking up on things. The only comment I would make is that the floors were dirty. Food everywhere on floor but we arrived at 6:30 so maybe many people had eaten but dirty floors need to be cleaned up. read more

Our waitress was sweet and came to check on us several times. Beans and rice were delicious! Shrimp enchiladas were okay but won't get again. Busy when we went and a bit of line but we were seated in about 10 minutes of arriving. Good atmosphere and will come back! read more

The fajitas didn't have the sizzle so by the time I got my tortillas 5 minutes later, the fajitas were cold. The food overall was pretty good and I really liked the queso. read more

I came in there a couple of weeks ago. Talked to the owner she was very professional. I was trying to order a beer and she came to the table to explain to me that they did not serve alcohol but was working on getting their license For the owner to come to me and explain was very professional. I had the shrimp cocktail and some beef fajitas. The food was amazing. I recommend this place definitely to anyone. I will be back. read more

My favorite Mexican food in town! We eat here at least once a week and are never disappointed. They treat everyone like family and the food is always amazing and everything is always super clean.I've tried about 10 different things and every time I'm impressed. THE NEW 19TH STREET LOCATION. Awful. The service was bad, the chips were overcooked and the "weird" salsa was the only thing spicy and it lit me up. The wife and I took one bite of those and pushed them aside. When we ordered, I asked the waitress what the difference of the green and red sauce was and she said, "not much both are mild." She was right as there was no flavor in any of the two dishes we ordered. The enchiladas looked a little green with the sauce on them, but I couldn't taste anything except the bland cheese. The flautas were also flavorless including the guacamole. The rice was under cooked and the beans were decent as they added cheese to the top (Why?). Tables needed to be bused and it took longer to get the tab than to get our food. All in all a bad experience. Nope not again. read more

My daughter & I had a late lunch there on Monday. 4-30-18. We really had no idea what to expect and the food was wonderful. First, everything was fresh & good. The salsa was green & delicious. Basket of chips reminded me of Mexico--not paper thin but fresh & tasty. I ordered the Carne Guisada from the lunch menu. It was the best I've eaten in Lubbock. Piping hot, tender chunks of beef, rich dark gravy. Seasoned perfectly. Refried Beans & rice were both great also. Beans were not a dried glob but tasted good. Flour tortillas were hot & wrapped in foil. My daughter ordered the Enchilada Suiza. The 2 enchiladas were excellent also. Hers were served with beans & rice & small side salad. She loved them, too. Each requested sour cream & our waitress promptly returned with a small bowl of fresh sour cream. We will be back! read more

I dropped in for the first time on the recommendation of a friend, since I'm a pescatarian and "Mar" implied at least the hope that there might be dishes which I can eat. I enjoy the shrimp enchiladas at The Plaza, so I tried them here. I explained to the waitress that I abstain from meat and asked whether the beans contained manteca (lard) or whether or not the rice contained chicken stock. She disappeared for a couple of minutes and assured me that "no" that the beans and rice were safe. I had my doubts, so I called Mar Y Tierra the next day and the person I spoke to confirmed that there was in fact lard in the beans and chicken base in the rice. At least I can confirm that both the beans and rice are both delicious (way too delicious, as it turned out) and that the shrimp enchiladas are amazingly good. The chips are very bland and the salsa that they serve is too mild, watery, insipid and almost pointless. But the greatness of the enchiladas and the abundance of seafood options will have me returning in spite of everything. read more
