I really wanted to like this place because it was so nice and clean. However my issue was with the dental admin department. This office is an absolute scam. They tried to push an unnecessary deep cleaning on me--even after I confirmed with my insurance (Humana) and my sister-in-law, a licensed dental hygienist, that I didn't need it. She personally reviewed my X-rays and said there was zero justification for that level of treatment. Despite this, the office kept insisting I needed it, then manipulated the billing codes to group procedures in a way that would force me to pay more out-of-pocket--even though my insurance covers 70%. When I called Humana, they confirmed the office was submitting things incorrectly. But instead of owning up to it, the staff tried to blame the insurance company and act like they were "just trying to help me save money." That was a lie. I wanted the office to send an appeal. They did not do that. They kept saying I desperately needed it but if I did then my insurance should have no problem covering it. They did not provide sufficient proof/evidence for the claim to be approved. It just didn't make any sense to me. I chose to text as a form of contact so I would have receipts of the conversation in case anything happened and I'm glad I did because when I re read everything it's just absolutely ridiculous how they handled the situation and how they dodged so many of my questions while I was trying to gain clarity. This place is predatory. They rely on patients not understanding billing codes or questioning treatment plans. It is so important to understand what your insurance covers because places like this will do everything in their power to make you pay up front and tell you insurance will cover it later. Then you'll realize your insurance will reject the claim snd you're out $500 of your own money. The whole experience felt like a setup to squeeze as much money as possible from me under the guise of "care." Do yourself a favor: get a second opinion, talk to your insurance, and run far away from this office. They are unethical, dishonest, and absolutely not looking out for your best interest. Amazing dental care and office! Today I went in for a new patient intake appointment and cleaning with Dr. Kim. The assistant was very gentle and made sure I was comfortable during my X-rays. The ladys at the front of the office were kind too. And Dr. Kim explained the issues that were occurring in my teeth easily and clearly. I had many issues that my past dentists missed... Nobody in their right mind will tell you they love going to their dentist for routine cleaning! But with the right dentist, your visit will be a lot less stressful and dare I say it was also a very pleasant experience. I found Dr Chang through a friend's recommendation, after my former dentist closed up shop and sold his practice to a lady dentist that by default became my replacement dentist. Geez, she was awful and had a personality of a gnat so I never came back. I stopped going to a dentist altogether for over a year then the pandemic came rolling down... I was desperate to find a decent dentist and my friend just casually told me I should try her dentist. The rest is history. Now I'm here every 6 months for my regular check-ups. P.S. the deep cleaning was super gentle and I sailed through even though my heart was beating like crazy because the sound of a drill makes me see double. We travel quite a distance to come see Frank, the dentist, he and his staff are excellent! They are professional, thorough and friendly. The office is always clean and easy to get to, right off the 22 freeway. I have been going to Maranatha Dental since 2016. I went to see Dr. Chang to remove my last wisdom tooth. He explained every step and I literally did not feel a thing. The process was fast and I was eating again the next day. I was so impressed by Dr. Chang's skills and the services provided at Maranatha Dental that I referred my husband to Dr. Chang as well. Even though we live about 2.5 hours away, we still make our appointments together and the front office is very accommodating. Their office is nice, clean, and has plenty of parking spaces. I haven't been to the dentist in years prior to coming to Marantha. The last experience atthe dentist, left me hospitalized for a week and traumatized. The only reason I went was because it was part of the criteria for my deductible. Looking back a little over a year ago, I laid on an exam room chair and started shaking. Then out of nowhere tears started flowing uncontrollably. Dr. Anh was amazingly patient with me and explains EVERY STEP before, during and after any procedure, cleaning or exam. She is caring, courteous, professional, knowledgeable and quite frankly, my favorite dentist I have ever had. I actually look forward to my dental appointments! They also try to be flexible with their schedules and are open on Saturdays, and if you can't make it don't sweat it! This office has texting capabilities. Did I mention they have a new location? Be sure to keep your eyes peeled as you near the 22 freeway. It's the driveway right before the freeway. The new location is spacious, clean and upgraded w/TV screens on the ceilings so you can continue to watch your Netflix program during procedures. Sorry. I have a long story. I'll keep it as short as I can. I had been seeing my regular dentist (NOT Maranatha Dental) for about 4 years. On my first visit there, the hygienist suggested that I needed a deep cleaning, and since it had been a few years since I had seen a dentist, I agreed. As part of the deep cleaning, the hygienist suggested I also needed laser gum treatment ($45 per quadrant, or $180 for the whole mouth, total cost to me) and an antibiotic gum rinse ($35 per quadrant or $140 for the whole mouth, total cost to me). I agreed to have both treatments on half of my mouth (2 quadrants) because my insurance would apparently only cover half of a deep cleaning in one visit, meaning that I had to make a second appointment for the rest the cleaning. (I did not do the extra treatments on the second half of the cleaning because I didn't see or feel a noticeable improvement from the treatments on the first half.) At my next cleaning visit six months later, the hygienist prepared to do a deep cleaning, and again suggested the laser gum treatment and antibiotic gum rinse. I declined both treatments and asked for a regular cleaning. The hygienist advised that since I had had a deep cleaning once, I would now need deep cleaning every time. I persisted in asking for a regular cleaning, and she reluctantly obliged. So began my song-and-dance with this dental practice of them scheduling an appointment for me to have a deep cleaning six months later and me then rescheduling the appointment several times so that the cleaning happened once a year. Every time I arrived for an appointment, the hygienist would insist that I needed a deep cleaning, the laser gum treatment and the antibiotic gum rinse, and every time I would decline the extra treatments and push back for a regular cleaning. I finally had enough when I went for my cleaning in August 2018. Once again, I declined the extra treatments and asked for a regular cleaning. The hygienist very reluctantly agreed to do a regular cleaning, but made me sign a waiver saying that I was going against her advice and that I would be required to do a deep cleaning on my next visit. Sign a waiver? For a cleaning? Are you kidding me? She then casually mentioned that my gum disease really necessitated a deep cleaning and the extra treatments every 4 months (or 3 times a year)... wait a minute! Gum disease? No one ever said I have gum disease, and she's throwing it out there casually, like this is something I should know. And now 3 times a year, instead of twice a year? That means she's recommending I pay $960 a year out of my pocket for CLEANING treatments AFTER what my insurance covers! I very carefully and very thoughtfully told the hygienist that I could appreciate that the recommended deep cleaning and extra treatments were a profit center for the dental practice, but I really thought that a regular cleaning, once a year - with no extra treatments - was enough for me. She replied that if I thought she was trying to upsell me (her word, that I was careful NOT to use by saying "profit center" instead), then I was free to get a second opinion from another dentist. Finally... Enter Dr. Chang at Maranatha Dental! I made an appointment for a check-up and cleaning with Dr. Chang in December 2018, 4 months after my August cleaning at my regular dentist... so when that hygienist thought I should be getting my next deep cleaning. When I met Dr. Chang, he asked why I wasn't seeing my regular dentist. I told him that I wanted a second opinion, but I didn't mention exactly WHAT I wanted a second opinion about. Dr. Chang reviewed the x-rays that his staff had just taken, took digital photos of some of my teeth, and then discussed his findings with me. The most significant finding was that a crown that I had just gotten at my regular dentist in February, 10 months earlier, was not fitted properly; there was a significant gap between the crown and my tooth, so bacteria would almost certainly get into the gap and cause the root of my tooth to decay, which would likely require me to have a root canal and get a new crown at some future time. The other couple of small items that Dr. Chang discussed with me were things my regular dentist hadn't uncovered at all. At the conclusion of the exam, I asked Dr. Chang if I would be getting my teeth cleaned, because I had made an appointment for that, too. He said... wait for it... "No. You don't need it." I then asked if my teeth needed to be deep cleaned. A look of surprise, and another "no." Best of all, Maranatha Dental emailed me copies of the x-rays showing my poor-fitting crown, which I shared with my regular dentist just last week. Thanks to Dr. Chang's thorough exam, my (former) regular dentist will be replacing this crown at no cost to me. Maranatha Dental truly has earned my business for a long time to come!! read more

I have got to say that I've been through a few dentists but Dr. Frank Chang is by far the best dentist I've ever had! Before coming to him, I went to a dentist that my mother referred me to. Long story short, he said my cavity fillings were old so he took them out and replaced them. My tooth was sensitive for about 8 months and I couldn't stand it any longer, so here enters Dr. Chang. He used is powerful machines and detected that I needed a root canal. He sent me to the right specialist and I had it taken care of. He continued the procedure with great care and tells me exactly what he is doing when he is doing it. He takes great pride in his work and it truly shows. Every time I go to the dentist now, I actually do not mind it at all. Plus, he has NETFLIX!! So if you're looking for an amazing dentist, this is the guy for you! read more

Marantha Dental is a very clean and nice looking office. I love the setup and did have a good experience my first time in the office. Unfortunately, when I tried to schedule for a check up the next time they told me I had to get a deep cleaning or they wouldn't see me. This was very rudely put by the receptionist by the way and definitely not handled with care. She said, "we can't see you then if you're not willing to pay for it". I said I would get a second opinion. I went to another dentist where I was told I DID NOT need a full deep cleaning just some scaling/root planing in some areas. Marantha had told me I need a full deep cleaning for each quadrant in my mouth and it was very expensive. They also DID NOT measure the pockets in my gums. I've been told by several dentists that measurements are necessary to show a deep cleaning is needed, and the numbers of this should be told to the patient in order to prescribe a deep cleaning. I know some dentists just tell their patients a deep cleaning is needed when sometimes it's not because it pays well. I hope this is not the case but it sure feels that way after my experience. I felt it necessary to post this review and let other people know to watch out for this and the way you're treated if you don't immediately buy everything they say about your teeth. Checked out their website, insurance options, Yelp reviews and decided to go for a check up, yep, right in the middle of COVID-19. The Covid precautions before visit and during were on point. The facility looks brand new and super clean. The staff was pleasant enough. There are televisions in front of you and ON THE CEILING. Super nice facility with all the best and latest gadgets. The real gem here is actually Dr Chang. Very gentle. Explains everything in great detail. Does not over recommend unnecessary procedures. Constantly checks in while you are being worked on. Doesnt leave me in the chair for more than 15 minutes, if, excellent time management. I've been 3 times, with probably 3-4 more visits. I highly recommend you check them out! read more

The experience has only gotten better with their modern facilities, xrays and tvs. I have been to the dentist very frequently as a kid with crowns and fillings... then as an adolescent with more fillings needed.. and now as an adult s/p invisalign and permanent retainers. After what we been through I can proclaimed What a fraud this office is We have PPO dental & health insurance, before making appointment i called my insurance they assured me I can go to any dentist I like. So I found this office on yelp , based on 5 Star reviews I called them for a regular cleaning appointment. I gave them my insurance information & to call the insurance for verification. According to them they verified that's why they scheduled appointment for me & my husband. My appointment was at 10:45 am, got there by 10:20 didn't see dentist until 11:20. By then the dentist only go over my X-ray & explains bunch of other things I need along with deep cleaning instead of regular cleaning... this is not the first time I experienced this. I left my last dentist because he was billing my insurance like sky are the limits, there's no ethical & moral from this health care industry. My insurance of course paid for it as usual. I know with any new dentist they will 100% sure recommend deep cleaning. Which to me it's fine even though I don't like needle to numb my gum line. What makes me furious is the incompetence & unprofessional from the front desk to the office manager of going back & forth with the authorization. We have insurance for all our adult lives never once at any other dentist we had in the past make us come in for a cleaning but end up not doing the service the appointment was for... We left the appointment feeling fine without the cleaning & let them do whatever they need w.the insurance for *authorization* My insurance I called 3 time , before appointment, after appointment, and after my visit. 3 different time they tell me the same process. She then again agonizing me that I left right after my appointment so she didn't had a chance to tell. What a bunch of crocks. I was standing there for couple minutes thinking I was done and never once the dentist said the office will give you a quote. He only said we need authorization from your insurance then will call you for another appointment. She now then said yeah we gave your husband a quote & not you because you left right after. Currently in the office for my annual cleaning. I've been pushing the appointment back because the fear of COVID19. But so far, I see the office is so clean, and the staffs are following disinfectant and cleaning protocols carefully. All their tools, machines, and equipments are plastic wrapped and disinfected well. They have a new Aerosol suction machine operate during the cleaning process to make sure it sucks all particles in case anyone coughs or sneezes. I feel more at ease now. I have Dr. Kim today. He is quiet but very good too. He takes his time and very thorough. I just found out they take children too, so I made an appointment for my 7 years old son. I walked in very nerviness They numb you first with a gel witch then makes a needle nothing more then a little prick less sensation then if you floss. All you feel the hole time is some tugging a little bit of temperature changes lots of vacuuming no pain. Just your mind running wild with imagination and anticipation. The dentist was very soothing and tells you to keep you eyes closed and relax.
