We went here for a special date night, and it was such a romantic and intimate experience. The food quality was excellent, and our server gave us wonderful wine recommendations that paired beautifully with the meal. We really enjoyed our evening and will definitely be back!

Went to Marche Modern a few nights ago. Our experience was outstanding. My very positive time, started out with Hostess, Priscilla. I spoke to Priscilla twice and each time, she was so friendly, helpful and professional. I had a specific seating request, and she made it happen for me! I was so appreciative. Our server, Jeffrey was equally outstanding. We were so grateful that he took such good care of us. Jeffrey was literally very passionate about working for Marche and the menu. He really loves his job! Let's talk about the food. My date wasn't very hungry. However, she loved her Caesar Salad. I had the scallops, and they were amazing! Thanks team, for making our dinner so special!

Easily the best French food I've had in the US. Let's just start by admitting the truth - I'm a total carb girlie. So obviously I had to get the butter and bread. Do I hate paying for bread? Yes. But was the butter amazing? Also yes. We ended up trying 3 different butters: black winter truffle, olive oil and lemon, roscoff sweet onion. All of them were honestly awesome. The onion was particularly good and the truffle had good truffle flavor without being overwhelming. Dishes I ended up trying: -1/2 Dozen escargot cannelloni - this was so interesting. It wasn't my most favorite thing but the flavors were good and worked well together. I probably would just prefer the standard escargot. -Short Rib - this dish is PERFECTION. My god, it came with robuchon style potatoes, which are a PAIN to make if you ever do decide to try to make them yourself. But oh my god, they were so good. I could sit and eat a tub of these. Everything was delicious and everyone in my party left with happy stomachs. There's valet parking but it's pretty easy to find parking in the parking lot for self-parking. You might walk a little further, but no biggie. You probably need the walk after consuming this delicious meal. Our server was also pretty awesome and explained everything on the menu well as well as offering suggestions. I did ask some questions as whether I could sub out anything and she was quick to say since everything is made to order/fresh, they could always offer substitutions on anything they make.

I've been here a few times but never reviewed it, so here's my attempt. We were a party of four and dined here on Saturday for a friend's birthday dinner. Everything was ready for us and we were seated right away. Philippe was our server and provided outstanding service throughout the evening. Since it was a special occasion, we decided to bring a special bottle of wine from Napa. Corkage fee is $45. We ordered the following: Salade Amelia - their composed version of a chopped salad. Light, fresh, and herb-forward. Row 7 Upstate NY Badger Flame Beet Salad - say that three times! Lol. Kidding aside, this salad featured sweet, flame-striped beets that are far more delicate than traditional varieties. Paired with fresh herbs, bright citrus vinaigrette, and a touch of creamy cheese and pistachio crunch, the dish was light, vibrant, and beautifully balanced. Really good! Beets are starting to grow on me. Sashimi Hamachi - silky slices of fresh hamachi served simply so the quality of the fish really shines. The delicate richness of the yellowtail paired beautifully with the bright citrus and light seasoning, creating a perfect balance of clean, fresh flavors. Every bite was vibrant and the flavors were bursting in my mouth, leaving a refreshing finish that made the dish hard to stop eating. This was my favorite. Coq Au Vin - ordered twice. The birthday celebrant didn't finish hers and ended up taking it home, and she said it was even better the next day after all the flavors had time to marry. My boyfriend ordered this as well and finished his plate. Pave de Boeuf Braise - a friend ordered this and described it as a braised cut of beef cooked low and slow until incredibly tender. The meat was rich, succulent, and practically melted with each bite. Retour du Marche a Poisson (market fish) - king salmon served with cauliflower, lemon confit, and marcona almonds on top. This was cooked perfectly, just the way I like it. The birthday dessert wasn't comped so we ordered the Hotel Crillon Paris Riz au Lait, or what they call an "elevated rice pudding." As my boyfriend described it, it wasn't quite as memorable compared to everything else we had. Marche continues to dominate modern French fine dining in OC. The food and service here are consistently outstanding. I highly recommend it to anyone who's a fan of French cuisine.

Marche Moderne is a pretty regular stop for me during my semiannual visits to nearby Laguna Beach. It offers consistently excellent contemporary and classic French fare. It's very popular and clearly has a dedicated clientele. It's one of the fancier restaurants in the Crystal Cove Shopping Center, which has its share of restaurants. Recently I've usually ordered their 5-course tasting menu, which changes seasonally. What lured me in this time, however, was their limited-time Dover Sole Meuniere special, which they were only offering 3 nights a week for 2 weeks. Since my table had a clear view of the glassed-in kitchen, I could see it was a very popular dish that night. I started, as always, with their excellent Pain Epis bread with house-made butter flecked with salt. I also got the Salade Amelia, their tasty chopped salad which comes formed in a ring mold. The Dover Sole was classically prepared (brown butter, capers), presented whole and filleted tableside. Two staffers (including the maître d') were busy filleting an adjacent table, so my very amiable server Jeffrey did my fish. I give him an A for effort, a B for execution. He admitted they really didn't get fillet training on-site and that You Tube helped out. The fish was a generous size and delish, served with some simple baby potatoes and a basil emulsion. I had leftovers! Dessert was aptly called Between A Pavlova & A Vacherin, with several grapefruit components, plus hazelnut and vanilla. Delish! They also had a special Harry's Berries strawberry tart I would have loved to try. I also had 2 mocktails, Lychee Rose and Tangerine Passion Fruit. The Lychee was especially exceptional. Jeffrey provided great and friendly service. Service here can be a bit aloof if you're not a regular, but tonight was fine, despite the crowd. I think Marche Moderne's food is at just as fine as that at Knife Pleat, the Michelin-starred French restauant that now occupies Marche's former spot in South Coast Plaza. It also is a better value and better located for me. I of course will return.

5 STARS. Marche Moderne is one of my favorite French restaurants to go to in Southern California. It's perfect for a special occasion type of dinner and has become a go-to for anniversary celebrations. The menu changes up every so often, but the staple dishes are the following: - Pave de boeuf braise (or braised short rib served over a bone): this is probably our favorite dish every time we visit. The current way they are serving it is without the bone, but it is still delicious. The mashed potatoes are a perfect compliment. A must order! - Coq au vin with fettucine: this is another savory dish. If you are a coq au vin lover and enjoy slow cooked braised chicken in red wine, this is the dish for you. If you are already getting the beef though, maybe choose a different savory dish, as they could be too similar. - Scallop crudo: a fantastic appetizer to start with! - Bread with house-made butter: we got this pro-tip the first time we went. They make a special butter in-house. Order it with the bread. You won't be disappointed. - Oysters: if you are an an oyster lover, they have a wide assortment. We tried the Des Huitres oysters. Located in a beautiful part of Newport Beach off PCH, there is ample self parking (valet parking is also available right out front of the restaurant). The staff is so attentive, helpful, and extremely friendly. They have always done something so nice for us on our anniversary. We will continue to visit as often as we can!

    Cheers!

Well back for our anniversary. It's hard for large restaurants to get Michelin stars. Marche deserves one. They try to provide value and taste. "Supe'rieur" it hard to do both. Cheers!

I haven't tried any French cuisine in Orange County so my girlfriend and I checked this out for her birthday. Service is very friendly and proactive, but not too pushy/proactive as thy sometimes are in nicer restaurants. The duck confit was perfect, crispy outside and buttery inside. Braised rib will melt in your mouth. The tartare was worth trying, I could tell the meat was good, but I'm not a mustard fan so kinda ruined it for me. I'm not sure if my palette isn't refined enough, but I wasn't overwhelmed by most of the dishes (other than the confit). I really liked watching the kitchen through a window by our table. Made for an excellent setting! Would come back again for another special occasion.

Visited this French restaurant at the Crystal Cove shopping center yesterday. Parking was a little confusing at first -- valet is in front, but self-parking is actually on the other side near Trader Joe's. We had a reservation and were seated right away. The restaurant is bright, clean, and modern inside. Service was a bit slow in the beginning before anyone came to take our order, but after that it was attentive and professional. We ordered the duck confit, which was very tasty, and the duck liver mousse charcuterie was excellent. The lychee rose mocktail was also really good. We also tried the chicken, and it was moist and flavorful. The bread and butter they gave us were to die for ! We would love to come back! It was my birthday and there wasn't a complimentary dessert, but we ordered the chocolate soufflé and banana pudding, and both were really yummy. The bill came out to over $300, which is expected for this type of restaurant. Overall, great food and a nice experience -- just a few small things that kept it from being perfect.

It's been a while since I've had such an exemplary fine dining experience, every dish we ordered was a hit and the service was exceptional. I'm already looking forward to my next dinner at Marché Moderne.

3.5/5 stars Made a reservation for my birthday dinner, but it took a little while to get seated. We shared the bread with butter ($7), salade amelia ($16), tartare ($29), sashimi hamachi ($22), and bone marrow grilled octopus ($41) amongst three people. Bread: 3/5 - The waiter asks if you want bread, but note that bread is an additional cost. The bread was warm, but the outside was quite hard. The bread and butter were on the salty side. Salads amelia: 4/5 - Presentation of the salad was cute. I enjoyed the pieces of avocado and pumpkin seeds Tartare: 0/5 - Barely edible. It was so sour. None of us wanted to finish it Sashimi hamachi: 4/5 - Tender and flavorful, but nothing extremely mind blowing Bone marrow grilled octopus: 4/5 - The octopus was soft, but it's a small dish For my entree, I got the the Mediterranean sepia and Hokkaido scallops ($36), which I would give 4/5 stars. It was very tender, almost to the point of being undercooked. The flavor was tasty. The croutons were soggy. The scallops were small For dessert, I got the chocolate soufflé cake ($16), which I would give 5/5 stars. The inside was hot with melted chocolate, and the praline crunch and coconut gelato added an extra layer of flavor. For my birthday, they gave me a madeleine cookie with a lit candle, so that was a nice touch. The ambiance is nice inside, although we were seated near the window, so we saw a giant, black beetle on the wall. Our server was nice, but the service was a little slow Overall, the meal was solid, but nothing extraordinarily amazing, especially for the price.

    3rd Course: Lobster

A friend and I celebrated our milestone birthdays at Marche Moderne. This was our first time dining here, and we chose it because of all the wonderful things we had heard about it. We were really looking forward to a special dining experience. Unfortunately, it did not live up to our expectations. I chose to splurge and treat myself to the tasting menu, which is 5 courses for $168. My friend ordered chicken cordon bleu and pommes frites. Also, we decided to get the bread & butter since all of the reviews raved about it and said it is a must have item. To begin with, the self parking lot was full at 5:00 pm on a weekend evening. I had to drive around for awhile before scoring a parking space. Unfortunately, that space was on the complete opposite end of the lot. At the restaurant we were seated at a nice booth. The host and servers were friendly and attentive. As we waited for the bread, which took longer than expected, we started feeling quite warm from the sun shining through the window shades. I thought the bread & butter were fine, neither the worst or best I've ever had. My friend was not a fan of the bread. We did not understand what the hype was about. Since it would be hours before the sun went down, we decided to ask if we could change tables. To our surprise and disappointment, they moved us from a spacious, comfortable booth to a tiny table for two, squeezed between a row of larger tables and the window looking into the kitchen. At the time there were at least two other empty booths that I could see, but they were not offered to us, despite this being a double milestone birthday that they were already aware of. I also noticed that once we were seated at this smaller, cramped table, the quality of service we received lessened. The rest of the meal felt less special than how it began, which was a letdown. There were no photos on Yelp of the current tasting menu for me to see beforehand, but there were some photos of past tasting menus. In comparison to those, some of the past tasting menu courses had more food on the plates than mine did. I get that a tasting menu is small portions, but it was a letdown to see that in the past they offered more. For example, the first course of egg custard, whipped smoked salmon & caviar felt like it needed to be eaten with something else, like a small piece of bread or crackers. It tasted a bit too rich & heavy on its own. In addition to, I would have appreciated some vegetables or even a bit of mashed potatoes to go with the fourth course of smoked duck. As a perceived main course for a tasting menu, it felt like it was lacking something more. Overall, I would say the tasting menu was okay. There was nothing bad tasting or poorly prepared. Presentation was nice. I just didn't really love anything in particular. There was nothing that really wowed me or made me crave more of it. If anything, I felt like it could have been so much better, especially for the asking price. My friend, who has had more fine dining experience than I, ended up not liking the chicken cordon bleu. She left half of it uneaten at the restaurant. She didn't even want to take home the leftovers. The only thing she liked was the fries and they just tasted like ordinary fries. I felt bad for her since she was also celebrating a milestone birthday. She didn't choose the tasting menu because she didn't like the items listed. The restaurant did bring out a free birthday dessert for her, which was nice. Since the tasting menu came with a dessert, they wrote happy birthday on the plate for me. I wouldn't have minded being asked if I also wanted the free birthday dessert as well because I could have taken it to go for my kids at home. The only other thing worth noting is that there was an annoying fly that kept coming around when we were seated at the booth. It just felt ridiculous to be at a nice restaurant and having to shoo a fly away from our plates constantly. Unfortunately for my friend and I, Marche Moderne did not live up to its reputation that evening.

Dinner at Marche Moderne was just okay, and not quite what I expected from a French fine dining spot. It was pretty busy, and the service felt average at best. Ambiance is upscale, but noisy. Started with the octopus, followed by the crab and corn appetizer, and finished with the lobster entrée. Unfortunately, all the dishes were fishy in my opinion, and made the entire experience less enjoyable. Might give it another try down the line, but not any time soon.

    Desserts for top notch.

Ask the Community - Marché Moderne

Does the menu have vegetarian options.?

Yes but limited. Call to see if they can accommodate off menu dishes. They good at working with dinners. Cheers!

Any food accommodations for their tasting menu? Want to bring my parents here but they don't eat beef

From my experience with the restaurant they will accommodate almost any request. You just have to ask ahead of time.

Do they only have prefix menu or we can order outside of the 5 course?

You can order outside of the tasting menu. Try it once though. It's always fantastic.

Do they offer a chef's table for reservations?

There is no traditional chef's table where you can interact, but tables one through four have a beautiful view of the kitchen, and they have a world-class tasting menu. For context, we are fortunate enough to eat at The French Laundry a few times…

If there are no more reservations available on OpenTable can you still do walk in?

You should call the restaurant if you want a table. Bar is open seating

Do they take reservations on Saturdays, I can't seem to find online times unless they are booked for the next 3 months?

You can call the restaurant to make a Saturday reservation or make it on OpenTable.com. There are reservations open for Saturdays.

Is the pre fixe menu $105 for one person?

I think it is currently $180 per person

Do they allow you to bring in a bottle for a corkage fee?

Yes with a $35 corkage fee.

Is parking available? Is self-parking in a parking lot or street parking?

Yes, both self-parking (free) and valet parking

When is their website going to be finished? Amazing that they have had 6-7 months(?) to start it and then add the final touches.

Where can I find the full menu?

They are still working on their website. Email them and they will send you their current menu.

When are they due to open?

September. By the end of the month.

    Are they open yet?

Not yet. In the next 30 days.

Had a glass of white wine which was recommended by the manager/sommelier while we browsed the menu. As our friends have dined here several times, we started to nibble on the whipped ricotta, burratina, empanadas and the pan con tomate w/jamon. All 4 were delicious but the empanadas were amazing! Our table was ready once we finished the 4 appetizers. Next up we decided on the tiger prawns, branzino and seared scallops. Thought the prawns were a tad bit overcooked as it was a bit tough. The scallops were well seasoned and especially loved the saffron risotto. Finally, the branzino was cooked perfectly but wasn't a fan of the romesco sauce as it tasted sweet to me. Though we were absolutely stuffed, we ended up trying their creme brûlée, gelato/sorbet flight and their olive cake. I absolutely loved the creme brûlée as the custard was super light. The gelato/sorbet flight was also tasty but sadly wasn't a fan of the olive cake. The place was packed and patrons seemed to stay for a few hours at a time. After we finally ordered, the champagne showed up about 20 minutes later. It was served in wine glasses, which feels like basic wine bar knowledge, but apparently not here. When we asked to switch them to champagne glasses, the waiter brought out smaller wine glasses. Not exactly good etiquette for a place that leans so heavily on its bar concept. The whipped ricotta appetizer came out even later, around the 65 minute mark. As an appetizer. It was fine, probably the best thing we had, but "fine" after that kind of wait is not a positive. From there, everything just dragged. It took almost an hour for my mom's meatballs to come out, and when they did, they were raw. Not slightly underdone. Fully pink in the middle. She sent them back and was so turned off she didn't even want to eat anything else. I ordered a salad and specifically asked for light dressing. What I got was the opposite. It was drenched in a thick, heavy dressing that made the whole thing borderline inedible and the lettuce soggy. After our food, I tried to order drip coffee, which they didn't have, so I settled for an Americano. I asked for warm cream, which I've had done at plenty of places, and somehow it came out clotted. If you know anything about coffee, that shouldn't happen. At this point, we had been there for over two and a half hours. For a salad, an appetizer, and four raw meatballs. The server was very nice and doing his best with being busy. BUT, the overall operation felt completely disorganized and untrained. We weren't the only ones either. The couple next to us was also complaining after waiting 40 minutes just to order breakfast items. To make it even better, parking is only comped for 90 minutes. So because of their slow service, we ended up paying for parking on top of overpriced, underwhelming food. What should have been a 45 minute lunch turned into a 2.5 hour ordeal. The bathroom also wasn't clean either time I went, which pretty much sums up the lack of attention to detail across the board. The only slightly redeeming part was the crème brûlée, which was... fine. Not amazing. Just fine. It's a pretty space. I'll give them that. But that's about where the positives end. The food is not good, the timing is unacceptable, and the whole experience feels like Instagram style over quality and substance. Definitely not worth the money, and not somewhere I'd ever go back to.
