In my first visit since the turnover in ownership, I was very impressed. Everything you could want was excellent. The food variety and quality, the ambiance and the service. The owners are literally in the dining room, and their concern for an excellent dining experience by patrons was evident throughout the evening. I was very excited to head back to this favorite restaurant for a post Covid dinner with friends. I am sad to say it was incredibly disappointing. As I sat down at the table I felt something similar to a bee sting and discovered a nail pointing straight up. My friend told the man at the bar who told us to move the chair. Really? We're supposed to move your furniture? After a bit of pushback, someone else helped us. Our server was great. However, I'm not sure what was happening in the kitchen. We ordered the bacon wrapped dates as an appetizer (delicious) but they came out with the main course after we had to ask about their location. As for the main course, it was hamburger night. The burgers were ok, but the buns were dry and so toasted we all commented that we were afraid of breaking a tooth. We should have cut our losses, but were talked into the flourless chocolate cake for dessert. What they call cake, I call a charcoal briquette. It was brittle, black around the edges, and inedible. We paid the bill and left. I'm guessing and hoping it was an off night. read more

I've always been so grateful to have this lovely neighborhood restaurant just down the road, but I want to give them a special shout-out now during the quarantine for the amazing produce that they're supplying at pretty standard farmer's market prices. Since the beginning of quarantine we have gotten delivery (through Caviar) a few times, and everything has been as delicious as eating at the actual restaurant (looking at you, gnocchi), but only this past week did I do a curbside pickup of fruits and veggies from them. I thought there would be a big markup, but I got pink-fleshed apples, nectarines, a bag of fresh chanterelles, three pints of strawberries, Japanese eggplant, figs, and Persian cucumbers all for around $50. I feel so lucky to have access to such beautiful fresh-from-the-farm produce without having to put my pregnant self at risk by venturing out to the actual farmer's market. They also have meat, fish, cheese, and that kind of thing, but we only got the produce this time. Can't wait to order more next week! Thank you, Marche!!! read more

This has always been one of my favorite Marin restaurants with consistently great food and an awesome outdoor setting for warmer weather. It's also great to see new owners taking over to keep this institution alive. That said, our last meal left me uninspired, the usually tasty chicken was over cooked, figs were burnt and the gnocchi lacked flavor. My suggestion would be to keep some of the historic dishes on the list (and focus on execution), but take the opportunity to rethink the menu and come up with some new items to reflect the update and change. This is my new favorite restaurant. Everything we had during our dinner was exceptional and a real treat. The bacon wrapped dates we tried as an appetizer were a pleasant surprise and very unique yet tasty. We also ordered the Winter Salad and split that as a 2nd appetizer. We ordered the housemade Orrechitte and Cassoulet as main dishes. I've never had a Cassoulet before and loved it. It was a delicious medley of meats (crisp duck confit, pork belly, and Toulouse sausage) with cabbage, garbanzo beans and bread crumbs. I was also impressed with the wine list and it had a good variety of half bottle options which was perfect for my wife and I to split. I've been living in Marin for 15 years and this was my first visit here. Definitely coming here again. And again. read more

The ambiance is what you would expect from a Marin restaurant. Nothing special. However, in the summer, the outdoor patio is quite nice. Overall, this is a solid option. The food is well prepared. We went to this restaurant for the first time a few days ago, and it was really a disappointment. I was expecting French food and was unpleasantly surprised. Where was all the French food? Spaghetti Carbonara? Mancini Tuffoli? Shishito Peppers? I was thinking Boeuf Bourguignon, Cassoulet, Coq Au vin, Crepe Suzette, something that said French other than the French Onion Soup. First and foremost, the service was perfect. Both, our waitress and the owner checked on us to make sure everything was up to our expectations. The food was delicious and the whole atmosphere was comfortable. The little gem salad was prepared fresh, not pre-mixed and set in a cooler waiting for someone to order it. The pasta dish I had was a delicious combination I had never had before but would love to try to make at home. A great variety of wines by the bottle at affordable prices. We love this place. Be going there for years. They got creative during covid and sold "provisions" (some of their specialties) as well as wonderful take out. Their duck confit is our favorite and they always have a steak and fish. Great atmosphere and great wine selection. Their outdoor patio is wonderful on a nice evening and the only traffic nearby is Kent Avenue which isn't much. Highly recommend. read more

Pretty disappointed in our meals tonight. I got the gnocchi, which was mushy and without flavor. Mr B also had the gnocchi and was let down as well. The French onion soup was only a bit better. The bread was too hard. My daughter enjoyed her halibut thankfully. Tuesday night is fried chicken night, and Thursday night is hamburger night at Marche. Both sound so good, but after tonight's dinners, I don't trust the chef to nail either dish. read more

Dinner report Wednesday 5-16-07: Bambie & I entered a nearly deserted 50 seat restaurant. Cute decor, nice classical music playing. Not usually a good omen. But this is sleepy little Ross, the Marin town that the passage of time forgot. Wednesday is not wealthy mommy & daddy date night. Menu is French Bistro style with Cali food galore. Seasonal menu follows the fresh market items. Bambie had warm goat cheese on butter lettuce with lardons. The pork bits were a bit too chewy. She followed with the halibut with tiny pasta "peas" in a briny tomato light sauce. Real Good! I had the Milanese breaded pork slab. Real good as well. My arugula side dish was the perfect green to cut the fried pork. We drank various glasses of French and CA wines for $7- $9 per glass. Wine by glass selection is minuscule, just 2 choices per color. Dessert: Hot chocolate cake with sides of hazelnuts and a scoop of home made Vanilla ice cream. Good, not great. Competent, cheerful, friendly service: Well, the place was empty. We have come to Marche Aux Fleurs for a long time now. It's our first choice for an early dinner on the front patio. It's the perfect balance of Marin sunshine and evening cool. Come the cooler weather, we gather in the warmth and comfort of their homey dining room. Either way, the food and service are all top notch. We love their standards like 38 North Chicken, their wonderful Duck Confit, and the Halibut. But we often find ourselves craving the two weeknight specials; Tuesday they have magnificent Fried Chicken, Wednesday's Meatballs, and the kids' favorite ... Thursday Burgers. Marche aux Fleurs is a family-friendly restaurant with a distinct adult appeal. I love how the staff treats the kids like "little adults". The kids feel special, and learn how appreciate fine-dining. The Wine List, and the wine service, are both what we have come to expect from fine-dining experiences. They have all the right stemware, decanters, and staff know-how to make each glass of wine an occasion. Every entre is thoughtfully matched with just the right vegetables. We love their crispy polenta, potatoes, and pasta, too. Everything here is designed and prepared so carefully. Marche aux Fleurs is proud to source as much as they can locally. You can taste the freshness in every bite. Clearly, we love it there. By the way: Marche aux Fleurs is a GREAT place for Vegetarians! Went with some friends from The City tonight (Saturday). It was packed! A nice change from a lot of restaurants lately! The owner, Holly, provided a warm and friendly greeting. Our server, Sequoia, was knowledgeable and fun. We ordered the olives and the almonds with lavender sea salt while we looked at the menu. A nice beginning to take the edge off. For a starter we had the asparagus soup - water based with some pancetta butter in the center. Very cool and very very tasty! Sequoia said that they had white asparagus a couple of weeks ago. Sorry I missed that! Then a butter lettuce salad with a dollop of soft goat cheese and some KILLER "house-smoked" bacon. Wow! For the main course I had the beef with verde sauce. I'm blanking on the cut. Might it have been hanger ? Medium rare and tasty. I wish I could have had the beans, but it's that Atkins thing ;-( My friend had "the best pork chop I've ever had." One of us had the little chocolate cate and ice cream. And the other had a Holly gift a little butterscotch(?) pudding with a dollop of fresh cream and a big chocolate cookie. I find this place warm and welcoming. But then again I live in Ross. So maybe I'm just pretentious... What a deal to have this class of restaurant as our "local" ! read more

We dined at Marche for the first time yesterday. Everything was excellent! We were warmly greeted when we entered. The restaurant is charming. We had French onion soup and shishito peppers as starters. For mains, we had the steak (a huge portion), halibut, chicken and Orecchiette. Everything was perfectly cooked. Really really great spot! Delicious food: The avocado toast is an absolute must. I had the salmon which was off the charts fantastic, the husband had the steak which he loved. Yum! I joined friends for dinner at Marché, their favorite restaurant in Marin, and it was so good. Parking is easy and the restaurant is cute and comfy. The service was great. The servers were there whenever needed but not too much. This is always a tough balance to master. They knew the menu and the wine and they were great at answering questions and offering suggestions. Based on recommendations we tried some local reds which were new to me, and terrific. The real stand out is the food. They bake their own bread and you can tell the difference. We had appetizers, salads, entrees and split a dessert and all six people loved all their food which is fairly rare. I am looking forward to going back. read more

I love what an amazing effort this place is making during the pandemic. They created a constantly updated "provisions" webpage that makes it easy to buy produce and staples that are better than what I can get at local markets, and they have a huge selection of prepared foods (like their campagna bread) that make nightly meals easy. A lot of restaurants in the area have kind of given up during this crisis, but Marche seems to have raised the bar. I'm happy to support this place, and look forward to more meals when they can fully re-open. read more

My boyfriend and I dined here for dinner tonight and had a wonderful meal. I had the orecchiette pasta with fennel sausage. My dish was very tasty, nothing like I've ever tasted! My boyfriend had the duck which was also very good. Was able to make a reservation on Opentable and got to enjoy a table outside (they have heated lamps outside too). Service was friendly and the portions/prices were just right. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to couples! read more

We celebrated my husband's birthday at March Aux Fleurs. We walked out very full and satisfied. We ordered the following dishes: 1) *****Medjool dates wrapped in house-smoked bacon 2) *****Avocado crostini, salt-cured tuna, meyer lemon, California Olive Ranch olio nuovo. 3) *****Gnocchi 4) *****Roasted Alaskan Halibut 5) ****Crispy duck confit Our waitress was very attentive and courteous. We told her that we wanted to share all the dishes and she split the dishes for us without our asking. There were children patrons the times we visited this restaurant. I would rate this restaurant child-friendly. The overall atmosphere is casual, yet chic and unpretentious. Now back to the food. For our first dish, the mix of crispy smoked bacon and soft sweet dates gives a unique flavor that makes you want more. As for the avocado crostini, the salty taste of cured tuna , smooth texture of perfectly ripe avocado served on toasted bread are to die for. The Gnocchi is the best I've had. They're light and fluffy. The Roasted Halibut was fresh and done just right, crispy on the outside, yet flaky and juicy on the inside. The duck confit was tender but it lacked taste so I give it a 4-star. All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will come back again with our young child. read more

We loved every thing about our dining experience at Marche Aux Fleurs last weekend. It was the perfect place to celebrate a birthday. The four of us each ordered different entrees, and every one was raving about the combination of flavors and textures. We shared the cheese platter and the avocado crostini, and both were so delicious! The bread and butter were wonderful, too. We ended our meal sharing the decadent chocolate dessert and three scoops of the ice cream. I have never tasted such flavor-filled, fresh ice cream! We brought wine from home, but the wine list is extensive. The ambience and service rounded out this extraordinary dining experience. We eat out often, all around the county, and this is my new favorite restaurant in Marin. In fact, I think it was one of the very best dining experiences I have ever had, anywhere. read more

NOT a good experience! And it kept getting worse: 1. The staff was chatting and chatting and it took forever for the server to come and get our order even though there was only one other occupied table. 2. We are experienced, high end diners, and I've never NOT been able to get a single glass of champagne except here. 3. BAD acoustics. Even with only one other occupied table at first, we could hardly have any conversation with the background music and the staff talking as well as the one other table. 4. WORST duck confit ever!!! Dry, dry dry. WAY overcooked. 5. By the time we were finishing our meal, there were then 3 occupied tables with AT LEAST 9 other empty tables, but when another couple came in, they were seated RIGHT NEXT TO US, not even 3 feet apart. So much for social distancing even though COVID rates are low. VERY INCONSIDERATE, since there were so many other farther away empty table not near anyone else. We left as soon as we could. 6. WE WILL NEVER RETURN! Sad, since I'd hoped to bring a friend there who loves French food. read more

My husband and I ate here for "date night" during the 16th day of shelter in place orders. Eating their food made me feel reconnected with culture. We started date night with a date - bacon wrapped and stuffed with cheese. It was so yummy felt like we were eating dessert first! Next we had their cauliflower soup flavored with Moroccan spices. The flavor was exotic and just right. I prepared a salad at home to go with our entrees. I had the lasagna, which would had been enough for dinner and lunch the following day, but my husband couldn't resist my leftovers and ate them all. My husband had the halibut, which was tender and flavorful. For dessert, we shared a perfectly balanced shortbread cookie with mint chip ice cream. It tasted like they had used fresh mint for the ice cream, which paired perfectly with the guittard chocolate chunks. This little splurge took us back in time, and filled our souls. Started out fine. Greeted with smiles when my friend and I came in on a rainy night. Our waitress was lovely. When my grass fed filet was delivered however, I could not cut through it with a steak knife. I wondered if it was just a piece of gristle so I tried cutting another piece and could not cut that piece either. I was trying so hard to cut through it that my friend noticed how vigorously I was working to eat my dinner. So, I decided to return it. The waitress handled it wonderfully. She did come back a few minutes later to tell me that the chef or manager told her it was tough because it "was grass fed beef" at which point I said that I eat grass fed meat at home and for a beef filet, that was not acceptable. At this point, the owner or manager (not sure which because no one came over to talk to us about the situation) walked by our table, noticed there was an issue and shook her head with annoyance. When that happened we decided to leave. So, Marche, you have a great space, filled with super wealthy folks who live in Ross and it is clear you don't understand how competent and basic restaurant service works. If you have something go wrong at a table and a customer is upset GO OVER TO A TABLE AND TAKE CARE OF IT. Apologize and don't make it the customers fault. Offer them a glass of wine while they are waiting for something else to be prepared. Don't roll your eyes, shake your head and make the customer feel like they did something wrong. You could have turned around that situation so easily and had me as a loyal customer for life. read more

We visited on a Wednesday evening for a birthday dinner date. The outdoor garden setting is great, especially if the weather is nice. Although watch out for the setting sun--I was blinded for the first half of the meal and ducking from side to side as the sun avoided the trees. But there was a nice breeze, and it was warm enough until late in the meal as it approached 8 p.m. The meal: the boquerones appetizer was tasty, though it came as one large piece that you need to cut up, versus multiple smaller pieces. The spring salad was a good size to split, and it was refreshing. She ordered the salmon and liked it. I ordered the Wednesday special--tagliatelle and meatballs, which was really good and surprisingly well priced (the price isn't on the menu, so we weren't sure what to expect when the bill came). The only disappointing part of the meal was the bread: she thought it tasted funny, I thought it was just bland. The service was good for the most part but became a bit scattered late. We had to wait as the servers came and went to multiple tables to pick up and bring back bills. read more

I'm not sure why this is categorized as a French restaurant. The menu had a few things I recognized as French, but also had some Spanish appetizers, as well as fried chicken and hamburgers. I ordered the french onion soup and the short ribs special. Both were bland, as were the vegetables that came with the short ribs. Maybe a little salt and pepper would have helped. The cost of dinner, including tip, was $150 for two of us, and we only ordered one glass of wine. At this price level, I expect a really good meal, but that was not the case here. read more
