Visited Marciano's resturant with friends on a Saturday evening. Marciano's is on Brookhaven Circle, off Poplar. Menu an assortment of pasta, meat and seafood dishes. Some of us had the spinach salad, others had the cioppino soup for starters. I had the shrimp scampi with angel hair pasta, my wife had the bolognese, our friends with with seafood -- one had a salmon dish the other flounder stuffed with crab. For dessert we had the traditional Italian Tiramisu. The food was great, the atmosphere allowed us to have a pleasant conversation without straining to hear, the wait staff was attentive. Hubby and I stopped by here on the recommendation of some friends who loved it. They have signs everywhere announcing that they are now open for Sunday Brunch from 11-3. I gotta say it was really just ok. We enjoyed the service, the bread, the decor, and the plates, but the food was honestly just not what we hoped for. Our waitress, Alex, was awesome and let us sub in angel hair pasta on both our dishes. And the bread and pesto was ridiculously awesome, but our meals were not. We got the Chicken Alfredo and the Pollo al Diablo. The alfredo was bland and the diablo was overpowered. We also got the cheesecake, which I thought actually tasted better without the fruit. The chicken parm was certainly the most well seasoned and breaded version I've ever encountered. I could tell my meal was prepared with care, it was absolutely beautiful. The angel hair that comes with the entree would normally be my last choice however they did something with a blend of oil, cheese, and herbs that knocked it into next week. Hidden behind a busy street is a great choice for good food. This combination of Italian Mediterranean cuisine mix well but for obvious reasons limits your choices on the menu. An original steak caprese as an appetizer and a lazanha were my choices. But the best is the tiramisu. I would go back just for that. Wonderful dining experience last night! The Shrimp & Lobster over angel hair was incredible. Server could not have been more attentive.

A-OK sums it up pretty correctly. This place has been on my bookmark list forever so when my mom asked to meet Drew for the first time I thought this would be a cool place to do it. It is in East Memphis, has pretty good reviews, and most importantly - I hadn't been. Apparently that last reasoning did not sit well with them though. Drew was thinking Folk's Folly and my mom was thinking Erling Jensen's. They wanted a place they knew was dynamite - oops. I made a reservation for 3 at 7:00 for Sunday night but when we pulled up, we were the only car in the parking lot. And we remained the only people in the restaurant until an elderly couple walking around 8:00. I know this place has been open for a few years so I'm assuming they get more traffic on other nights...but it was kinda weird and awkward being the only ones in there. For appetizers, I ordered the antipasta plate that was bland and not all that good but my mom was obsessed with the mussels and Drew loved his lobster bisque. I just ate the cheese off my plate. And for dinner, they enjoyed their rack of lamb and quail. (Aren't they fancy? ha) while I liked my chicken parmesan but it wasn't anything to write home about. I didn't finish it so asked for a to go box and was annoyed when I came home to find my dinner and appetizer stuffed in the same box. (It didn't exactly go together.) I have to agree with Barrett R on the decor. The outside of the restaurant, which is nice, certainly didn't match the inside. The interior is extremely dark and what you would expect to find in a restaurant in a strip mall. When you see the building outside you immediately expect the interior to match and be new, upscale, even slightly pretentious (and two stories?). But the dining room is plain. There is no crown molding and it is just...blah. I keep trying to think of how to describe it but it is nondescript. That would actually be my biggest recommendation is to make the dining room more memorable. If you're paying over $20 for your entree, I think the restaurant should have some charm. This was our first visit to Marciano Restaurant, but it definitely won't be our last. I searched on Yelp for a restaurant near by where we were and I saw such good reviews of Marciano, so we had to check it out. We had the crab cakes, chicken marciano and the salmon with goat cheese and angel hair pasta. The pasta had a buttery and light garlic taste, which was awesome. The good reviews are well-deserved. A Mediterranean-Italian restaurant could only be described as heavenly. I was elated when I discovered Marciano's in Brookhaven Circle and even more excited when I discovered I was right- the meal was outstanding. The menu had so many tempting dishes that I didn't know what to order. I finally decided on the rack of lamb- tender and juicy with a nice Marsala gravy. Roasted potatoes accompanied my meal. Fortunately, Marciano was very nice and willing to accommodate my party under such short notice. I believe that the menu here was a bit tight in terms of suggestions but -- what the cooks at the Marciano do focus on... they cook very well. Perhaps that is why the simple menu works because the kitchen is most likely organized. The food I saw brought out and what had ended up being my own order looked, smelled and tasted great. The Shrimp and Lobster with angel hair spaghetti was absolutely delicious as the sauces, spices and herbs came together like culinary poetry. The best part? The servers were so attentive that I don't think I ever noticed my water going low because they were literally spot on. The server staff had (2) parties going on, one which seemed to be someone's birthday and the other, a large party of 6 -- and they still waited on myself and my date just as meticulous as they were catered too. The other diners in the place seemed to also be locals as they all knew each other but it added to the ambiance of a local Italian restaurant where everyone kind of knew or heard about everybody else. The bruschetta bread? Beautifully arranged -- the olive oil herb dip? Exceptionally tasted great. The Marciano also has a pretty nice wine list though if you love reds -- you can't go wrong with their Robert Mondavi selection. It is going to take some money but nothing that would consider out of the realm -- you really are getting a 5 star quality for a good price. Compliments to the chef. I invite others to delve into the experience, the service was so good that I tipped them well because they deserved it. My date and I lasted until closing time. We were there yesterday evening with reservation. The hostess or our waitress looked at the reservation list. She made a stare gesture. She said that we were not on the list but she seated us anyway. The food was great but the lack of services was lacking. The refilled on drinks was slow, she took a long time serving us, she did not borrow do more when they were not that busy for a Friday night. Then there were two annoying couples that were sitting at the same table across from us. Just staring at us like, your not welcome here. I could not help from seeing this. Jerks! This is quirky restaurant. It is not busy very often and I think that is because they usually have only the Chef and maybe 1 helper working. Often only 1 server. We really enjoy coming here. We take a relaxed approach and the service is always good. The Chef always comes out and has fun with us. He is very talented. The prices are better than most restaurants with food of this quality. I had the lobster & shrimp special on our last trip, served over angel hair and it was outstanding. We like frequenting local spots and we consider this a hidden gem. read more

Basically, I went in there assuming the worst--i waltzed in at 7pm (on a Tuesday) and the place only had the elderly locals as described, but they seemed like a bunch who would have good taste so i wasn't afraid to try stuff... But I did end up asking the server to double-check all my choices to make sure he liked them as well haha... Didn't want to risk the bland flavors and whatnot I'd heard described on here cause I was on a date! Anyways, the crab cakes are amazing--they're super creative and Mediterranean... it was so good. And then we just went for some serious classics: shrimp fettuccine alfredo and veal saltimbocca. A+ The service was kind but a little confused. However, he came around frequently to take good care of us. And the atmosphere is very nice. It's the kinda place you go for a hidden, off-the-beaten-path kinda chill experience. The first time I've even heard of this restaurant was two days ago when it popped up on my yelp search. It's been a while since I tried anything new, so I went with someone there. The atmosphere is great, but the lighting is a little dark. It's definitely meant to be a more private experience. The food itself was incredible. I think we had the catch of the day which was (if I recall correctly) stuffed flounder with either lobster or crab. Simply amazing. The desserts were even better. The portions here are just about right to make you mildly full and not over stuff you as many restaurants do. They also have wines but we didn't order any, so I can't really tell you about their selections. As far as dress, I'd say, semi-formal to formal wear is about right. You also don't seem to need a reservation here. In fact, when we went, there were maybe only two or three other tables occupied, which makes sense because it is quite pricey. For us, two teas, two specials ($30 each) and two desserts turned out to be in the $80 zone. All things considered though, it was well worth the price. read more
