He created two dozen beautiful cupcakes in four incredible flavors: Orange Creamsicle, Strawberry Lemonade, Shirley Temple, and Lemon. Finding tasty gluten free cake in the area can be challenging especially if you want variety and customization. Suzie Cakes was Not my first choice because the website shows only one option for gluten free cakes- vanilla cake with blue vanilla frosting. So I went looking elsewhere and ran into similar issues with limited cake flavor options. I came back to Susiecakes because I knew I would at least get a tasty cake.. and when I went into the store, I learned that I could get other frostings even though it was not well communicated on the website. I chose vanilla gluten-free cake layered with the strawberry buttercream and decided to purchase a cupcake version of those flavors to taste test before ordering it. Surprisingly, the store clerk didn't charge me for cupcake! That more than made up for having to drive over to ask about other frosting flavors. The next day I worked with one of their customization team specialists, Claud, to work out the details for the custom decoration. Claud was amazing. He emailed me color samples to be sure I agreed- he emailed me a detailed description on the decoration plan while I was on the phone with him just to be sure we were crystal clear. I'm giving a high rating because I never had a cake that I didn't like at Susie Cakes, but also a high rating for the customer service in the store and over the phone/email with the customization group. Lindley is easy to communicate with. From the start of our email communication, he responded in a very timely manner and made the ordering process so easy. On the day of the event, he dropped off the cupcakes and tarts early, which worked out for me and I was able to set up the dessert table with plenty of time. Overall, I had a great experience. It was fresh and airy; the black sesame taste really stood out; the blueberry jam was delicious and not too sweet; the hojicha fresh cream was light and flavorful. As a first-time customer, I had no idea they donate your paid order if you miss the pickup date. I was told I received a reminder email and that the policy was disclosed, but neither happened. I spoke directly with the owner, Cassey, explained the situation, and asked why no one contacted me before giving away something I had already paid for. At some point, she basically just stopped responding to me on the phone. All of this over a $30 order that probably could've been resolved with the tiniest bit of customer service. Instead, I'm now annoyed enough to be writing a catty Yelp review and hoping for Peter Bakery's demise lol -- Edit: just to reiterate here, cause I hate being called a liar. I came the following day and I was told the cake was already donated. My call today was to escalate the item I paid for but was given away. Lastly, no information about donations in the email, nor was a reminder email sent. Rather than checking their systems to verify, they continue to double down. $30 bucks lost on my end, but I hope my review sheds light on their shady customer service.
