The best place for a custom birthday cake This is our second time getting my daughter's birthday cake from here and they always do such an amazing job! They really make my vision come to life. My Spanish is not the best, but love how patient they are with me when trying to explain what I want. Inspo pictures definitely help. Had to stop by and YELP this place on the WEST side of San Jose California. Literally a small hole in the wall at the end of the shopping strip they share with other merchants. Parking was fine. No problem. Bread selections were pretty good and interesting and some I never tried before. Place is clean, all wearing masks. COVID protocol in effect. I was picking up a lot of pan dulce for a memorial service I was attending and had no idea what I was gonna get as I haven't had Pan dulce before. I told the lady my predicament and she was very kind and patient with my ignorance. I asked her to help me pick out 30 pieces and I felt no judgment for not knowing what I was doing. This is a review for their breakfast burrito and only their breakfast burrito. Perhaps wishful thinking led me to head over for to a panaderia for my chorizo and egg burrito fix. Maybe it was something in me that wanted to try my luck. In either case, this bakery had food and they also had some burritos ready to go if you happen to be on the run. My food did it's job in curing my itch but it's not one that I would return for. They serve the burrito with a green sauce that is uniquely good. Unique in that it's creamier than the typical avocado sauce or salsa verde. The gal behind the counter was very helpful and commanded the steady flow of customers without flinching. I visited Panaderia La Espiga a few weeks ago during the late afternoon. First, the bakery is off to the side in a strip mall. I had no issues with parking. I was impressed that they were stocked with so many different pastries and breads. I was overwhelmed by all of the options. They also sell tortas, burritos, and tamales as well which I will need to come back and get. Anyhow, I got the vanilla cake with the pink icing, besos, an empanada, and a horn. The cake was delicious and it was very large slice. The besos were good The empanada was really nice with some tasty cream inside. The horn was good. I liked how all the pastries were large and that the quality was good on each one. I'll be coming back here in my future trips to West San Jose. It's a gem. read more

This review is only about the customer service and lack of communication from the baker. I ordered a birthday cake for 25 people. On the day of the pick-up, the cake was NOT as ordered. There were no strawberries and the color and design was wrong. When we tried to talk to the baker, he said, since there were no fruits available he made the decision to change the order without calling -- claiming he "doesnt have time to call people". When asked about cost adjustment, I was told "take it or leave it". No other offers and no apology. Although the breads and cakes are good here (and the two other staff ladies are helpful and friendly), they arent that good considering the treatment we got from their baker (to us as long-time customers). This is unacceptable for the price we paid. We took the cake sadly -- since it was for a birthday, but our kid ended up with a cake that she didnt ask for. I am glad I have other options because I have since gone to Los Tres Hermanos and El Amanecer Panaderia's for cakes and pan dulce, and have received kinder service, their pan dulce is tasty, and my cake orders were correct. Too bad too, since this is actually closer to me. Just not worth the headache. read more

This review is based on one quick visit and one item. I had been dying for a piece of tres leches cake for a while and it's hard to find just a slice. When I saw they sold them here I ran over and got one. It was very big, easily enough for two and it had fresh strawberries in it which were yummy. The place seems clean and the people were nice and I will go back and try some of the other baked stuff. And they stay open until 10 pm! read more

I'm so glad we finally have a legit Mexican bakery in our hood. The staff is soo nice! And the space is very very clean! Spotless, I may say. They have a large array of sweet desserts and a fridge full of cakes, jellos, custards, and more. They also have a great selection of Mexican beverages that you don't find in most Mexican restaurants and grocery stores in the area! Did I mention that is was hella clean. Best rosca de reyes I've ever had. This place is a small Mexican bakery so the variety of bread isn't as vast as Mexican Bakery on the East Side of San Jose. It was very busy and the customer service was good in dealing with rude costumers and getting everyone what they were ordering. We ordered a marble cake with Cajeta (Mexican caramel) and chose a beige frosting color. Cake was moist and cajeta was the perfect consistency and tasted amazing! (I provided my own cake toppers On other occasions we have been here and had the carne asada burrito, chicken torta, chicken tamales, pork tamales, chocolate banana smoothie and gelatina.
