Went as a group of 6, was my first time there. The live music was amazing and the atmosphere was great. The service was below average and the food took well over hour to come out. Typically my boyfriend and I love margarita cafe. It's our go to spot when we want really good Mexican food but sadly we have to give it 1 star. We went here Monday night at around 7pm and we were seated. We waited about 10 minutes. Our waitress never greeted us at all, the actual manager took our order. My drinks passion fruit sangria came but it was watered down and too sweet for my liking. Our guacamole came out and it was good. The girl who made it was really nice. We waited over an hour for our food and we only got it because my boyfriend had to go up to the hostess and check on our food. BTW, she walked by our table several times and she never checked on us. Our food came and we weren't as hungry because we had so much chips and my boyfriends steak was cold. At the very end we never had a waitress and she only came to our table to clean up the plates. Pretty good food from my past experiences here, but I'm not going back. This is a typical absentee-owner restaurant. The low paid, untrained help is running amok. They simply don't know how to do their jobs. Yesterday, two of us walked in for dinner. There were two other parties in the entire restaurant. We were shown to the table closest to the door. I politely asked if we could sit, "perhaps" away from the door. With a roll of her eyes, the hostess walked us to the table two feet from a party of five, a couple with three little kids. Went to Margarita's Cafe at 1:00p.m. Saturday to celebrate a friends birthday. We were 5 in the party. First let me say the place is immaculately clean with lovely decorations fitting Mexican ambiance. We ordered Margarita's & they were spectacular so perfectly made. First, we ordered the following delicious appetizers,chicken in a spicey sauce, calamari, guacamole (prepared by waiter at your table) and quesadillas. For the entree each of us ordered Fajitas I had the steak, shrimp and chicken with onions & peppers. Others ordered variations of my dish. Every dish cooked perfectly and piping hot. I made reservations to celebrate a birthday with my family. I made it at 8 and arrived in time. I called prior to heading in side to make sure our table was ready and the hostess confirmed and asked us to head inside (see photo of my call to the restaurant). We headed inside to be told we arrived late. Mind you it took us 7 minutes to actually set foot in the restaurant from the time I hung up the phone with them. It is now 8:10 and JOEL the floor manager says we are LATE and that we have to wait!! "I was like what do you mean -you just told us to come in???" I definitely spoke to the guy standing in the podium on the phone that told us to come in!!He completely ignored us while we were talking to JOEL and explaining that I called prior to arriving to say we had arrived and that we were there because the guy told us our table was ready. JOEL was very rude and kept walking away when we were trying to claim our table. It was clear that they gave our table away and JOEL was trying to blame us for being "late". He was very rude and unapologetic that he gave our table away. If you have a special occasion or just a night out -reservations at this restaurant aren't reliable. To add insult to injury they said they will call us when our table was "ready " again and never called us. We were outside in our car for 2 hours waiting patiently and I kept calling to see when they would seat us and they kept saying they will call us...they never did. Thank you Margaritas Cafe for taking "reservations" that you really don't book amd thank you for being rude on what supposedly was a special night out with my family. Mistakes happen I get it but don't try to blame your mistake on your customers by lying and being rude. I have been to the East Meadow and Freeport location many times and had a great experience. Unfortunately this was not so at the Long Beach location. There were a few mistakes with the order which I understand happens but when we received the bill they forgot to take an item off. The waitress proceeded to grab the bill and roll her eyes at us. Somehow the corrected bill went from $175 to $190! She had the nerve to add 20% tip. All their other locations add the tip when there are 6 or more people but apparently this is the only location that adds it for 5 people and only after they need to correct a bill! read more

We were told it was going to be at least an hour fir a table. Apparently, it's their policy to over book their reservations in case of cancellations. It's not all about the food here at Margaritas, it was the experience and wait staff that made this a great place to celebrate a birthday. The four of us waited at the bar for drinks during happy hour, but was unsuccessful. The waitress Rebecca came over and seated us at the high tables right next to the bar and honored the happy hour specials, she was the best waitress. Half price wine and beer. We ordered two drinks each because happy hour was almost over. Got a bunch of appetizers and a steak fajita for the table to share. The table side guacamole was very good according to the ladies I don't do guac. The La familia platter was ok, not great, they overcooked the deep fried items but the flavors were there. Let me tell you about those steak fajitas, the steak was sooo tender, it practically melted in your mouth like "Butta". I wish I ordered one for myself. The special Guava margarita was fabulous! The best part was the desserts, churros and tres leche. What topped off the night was the best surprise, the entire staff wished her a happy birthday it was like we were in Mexico. Oof. We read the bad reviews about this place on here but wanted to give it a shot anyway; mostly because we'd heard the other locations were good. Most of what I read said the service was poor, so we took the risk & figured that may have improved. Aside from some forgivable offenses that were a result of insufficient wait staff, these were some of the more unforgivable moments: *I ordered a regular margarita on the rocks and received a bright orange cocktail with a strong fruity flavor. I could tell by the color that it wasn't a normal margarita and I asked the waitress, who assured me it was. I questioned it again and she told me that I got a "special" one which confused me, but alas...I didn't like or want it (too sweet for me). My fiancé then went to the bar and asked for a regular margarita from THEM, and we got the right drink. It wasn't good. *Our appetizer (empanadas) came at the exact same time as our entrees and a completely new server brought them over with no mention of us getting them at the same time & the amount of food we got barely fit on the tiny table because no one had cleared our plates from the chips/salsa. Pros: - nice atmosphere and decor - great live band - taquitos were great - they use really good cheese on everything - good sangria - we did not order the guacamole but they make it in front of your table which is usually a good sign - avocado in the house salad! Cons: - a little noisy, but all Mexican restaurants are - salsa was eh - nachos disappointing. They were very cheesy which my brother loved, but they were soggy and messy. Margaritas is awesome... in every other location. I've been to east meadow and loved it, wantagh and loved it. So of course i thought Long Beach would be a hit. Yeah, no. I think they were overwhelmed with their food and drink orders the 3 times i went. I mean 3. Come on!! Service is not the waiters/waitresses fault Bc they are overbooked. Bartenders are awesome but can't seem to find a rhythm to get orders correctly and quickly. If I'm sitting at the bar waiting 15 minutes for a drink that i ordered with the drink I'm drinking...y'all got issues. The stars are for our server who was doing her best. My husband and I went for dinner on Friday night 9/10/21. Our server, who was very sweet, didn't speak English very well so between the music, masks and language barrier, ordering was a bit of a challenge. I think if the music wasn't so loud, it would have been fine. Our server brought chips and salsa. Chips were average but we liked that they weren't salted. Salsa was awful, tasted like it was canned tomato sauce with spice added. I've had jarred salsa from the supermarket that was much better. Another server came by to make the table side guacamole. He asked if we wanted jalapeños and we said we'd like it medium spicy. Watching him make the guacamole was almost painful. He clearly was not trained very well. We order this a lot and at other restaurants it's done in less than a minute. This went on for 5 minutes. First he squeezed a ton of lime juice in the bottom and then, with his gloved fingers, he added onions, tomatoes and cilantro. Why didn't he have a spoon? Then came the avocado. First one, no good. Second one, no good. Finally the third one was good and he added that and practically had his head in the bowl while he was mixing it. When we tasted it, we realized he forgot the jalapeños and it tasted like avocado with a lot of lime juice. Worst guacamole we've ever had. For our drinks, my husband order straight tequila on the rocks (you can't mess that up) and I order the Tito's Lemonade. The drink tasted like watered down vodka with lemons in it. I was glad it wasn't super sweet but there was no sweetness at all. Not very good. For dinner, my husband ordered chicken chimichangas and I ordered shrimp fajitas. Our dinner took a very long time to arrive and when it did, mine was luke warm and my husband's was bordering on cold. Anytime I've ordered fajitas the dish arrives sizzling hot. This was barely warm and I could actually touch the cast iron dish. The shrimp were served with tails on and were in a huge plate of onions and peppers, swimming in oil. While I appreciate the generous portion of onions and peppers, it was a completely unnecessary amount. Also, while I don't mind tail on shrimp, when serving for fajitas it makes no sense to leave the tail on, extra work for the customer. There was cheese on the beans and the cheese was already coagulated. The tortillas were also cold and served in a coffee cup saucer, so I got 2 giant plates with food with no room to eat from but the saucer. My husbands chimichangas were cold and barely fried, so instead of being crunchy, they were soggy. My husband doesn't like to send things back and if not quite right but okay, he prefers to deal with it but these were so bad he called over the server. The server didn't seem to hear or understand what we were saying so another server came to help and she apologized and said they would fire new dishes. This time, the dishes came in about 10 minutes and were piping hot. While we appreciated the refire and the food was better than before, it was still below par. The beans were mushy and tasteless (Trader Joes canned beans are way better) and did not need a lump of bland cheese on top. The rice was bland. My husbands dinner was about the same. And then it happened: Something was in my food that was indistinguishable. I could not tell if it was plastic or not but it resembled a large cat whisker. Frankly, I was done with it at that point but my husband was so irritated he asked the hostess if he could speak to the manager. And showed her what was in my food (we couldn't get our server's attention) Rather than the manager coming over, the hostess came back and told us it was a cilantro stalk and not to worry, it's edible. My husband said, "cilantro is green and that was white. That's not cilantro." She assured us it was and said she was sorry as me walked away. We waited for our server and we she brought us the check, they didn't take anything off. We really aren't complainers and made sure we told the server she was doing a great job and we weren't upset with her. Not looking for anything free but first our meal comes late and cold, then there's something foreign in my food and they thought that was okay? If there had been no issue with the new meal, we wouldn't have said anything and just wouldn't have returned but this was too much, My husband asked again to see the manager and he finally came over. He calmly explained that first our food came cold, then there was something in my food. The manager rips the bill out of my husbands hand and hands him a new bill with my dinner cost removed. If I could I would give this place a zero. The moment you walk in the 'host' kinda bald guy gives you attitude - I'm sure he could be the manager or whatever. Second, we sit and the waitress takes forever to come and instantly gives us an attitude. As I read my order to her she's clearly giving us more attitude and gets upset when I told her I wanted vegetables in my burrito bowl. The minute we get our food it's wrong, I send it back and it's still not a burrito bowl it's in a wrap. The customer service her was 1000% unsatisfactory. My ladies and I from work had our Christmas party tonight. I came in a week ago to make the reservation with the manager, he was very welcoming and understanding. Tonight we had 12 people and it was a very amazing experience. We had appetizers and entrees and they're amazing margarita specials. All of my colleagues were very pleased with the food as well as with the fresh guacamole that was made in front of us. This restaurant is just opening but they are doing a great job! We went on Saturday around 2 and they had plenty of staff that were very attentive. The ambience and decorations are very nice and classy. Long Beach really needed a more upscale (but not too fancy) Mexican restaurant. The food was delicious!
