Definitely​ a great place to go but I always seem to get slow service and I never go during the lunch or dinner rushes. Almost an hour and forty-five minutes for two people on a Monday afternoon! The servers are friendly and are attentive​ to your needs. The food always comes out hot and tastes flavorful. Unlimited chips and salsa are a plus! We had purchased a sauce/dip sampler and preferred the free salsa instead. We'll definitely​ visit Margaritas again but just hope the speed of service picks up. read more

This was hands down the best food and drinks I've had in a very long time. The naked Jalapeno margarita was amazing, thanks to Patrick the bartender, but the star of the show was the deep fried Chile Rellenos, available on Fridays and Saturdays. I just visited this establishment while traveling for business. It is in a convenient location if staying at the Hampton In. As it's within walking distance and shares their parking lot. The ambiance is very cute and portrays the Mexican culture very well. I sat at the bar as I was traveling alone and was immediately greeted by their very friendly bartender who offered a drink recommendation. I accepted and was pleasantly surprised. He was very attentive and nice, even having been busy. I ordered their sample platter as I wasn't sure what to go with, so figured a little of everything couldn't hurt. The food came out in a timely manner. It wasn't the best, but certainly not the worst. Their rice was served with what tasted like sauce that goes on pasta which I wasn't a huge fan of. Waited 45 minutes for fajitas. Finally got up and left. Worst service ever. Why it takes over 45 minutes to make them...who knows but they weren't that busy. The meal came out just as we were leaving so they did put it in a to go box and comped the meal but I won't be returning. Got home and tried to eat the meal. Wasn't good at all. Apparently this is the local watering hole. I came in here with 3 other Asians. Let's just say that in Maine, there aren't many Asians around... (if any).... 'cause we all got that awkward stare from patrons in every which way as we walked by as if they just saw aliens. However, the staff was friendly and very accommodating. Apparently, it was also graduation night when we came in here, and the place was packed! I didn't even realize that were that many people IN Maine!!! Haha... just kiddin'... We were actually kinda flattered that the staff would think that we're with the graduation folks, but alas we were way past those yesteryears. I used to love Margaritas in Portland. I had ok experiences here but today I was very dissatisfied with my steak chimichangas. I remember them being served differently maybe I'm wrong. Now they have the refried beans in a single chimichanga and though I asked for steak I found chicken in there and mostly beans. I had to ask for a side of sour cream (I remember it being served with it). The rice was over cooked. Overall the plate lacked the substance for a $15 meal. I'm an out-of-towner, had a craving for Mexican, and saw the menu in my hotel's lobby. That's all it takes sometimes. The food wasn't out of this world but certainly good. I got the sampler (or maybe they called it the Tester?) and was particularly impressed by the cheese enchilada. The service was excellent - attentive and friendly. I sat at the bar and before I had even selected my seat, the bartender had started getting me chips and salsa. Our waitress was incredibly rude. She forgot an order and it didn't come out for 20 minutes after we had all finished our orders. It didn't appear that she had comped that item and the other French fries that never appeared at our table, and she gave us a lot of attitude when we asked about it. Just so rude. It seem to me it was more like chili powder and salt rice would have named it better. The steak for the fajitas did hv a good flavor. I have been here a bunch of times over the years. I always find this place to a bit snobby, crowded. Dinners seem to be overpriced for Mexican food. There is almost always a wait for a table and be sure to call ahead if you have a big group. They do have a bar that is separate from the dining room, with an outdoor patio. The service is hit or miss, I have had excellent service and mediocre service. The food is good. I like the endless complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa has just the right amount of heat and thickness. I have tried a few things on the menu. The chicken chimichangas which were cooked and seasoned well. I came here a couple of times while I was in Augusta because there was so much snow that it was to get anywhere else and this place was right next to my hotel, so I could walk there. I sat in the bar each time and was treated very well. I tried a couple of things on the menu and had draft beer, which both were very good. Margaritas has steadily gone downhill over the years, but tonight really did it. I decided to order through DoorDash and the app was great. I was able to enter special requests. I ordered one appetizer, a kids meal, an order of chips and salsa and a handheld burrito for over $50. The food arrived in a timely manner and as I unpacked it I could see that two items were wrong right off the bat. I had asked for cheese on top of the chicken baby chimis and instantly saw that hadn't happened. I had asked for a dipping sauce for the chicken tenders...but received nothing. Now here's the real kicker. I had added no salsa Fresca, no crema, and guacamole on the side. My son brought his burrito to me and it was clear that none of those special instructions had been followed. The burrito was burned and quac and salsa was oozing out of it. My son couldn't eat it so it was a huge waste of money. The meal was completely unsatisfying. If Margaritas wants to stay open during this pandemic, I highly recommend that they get their orders correct. They honestly can't use the excuse that they were too busy on a Friday at 4. If we'd been there in person I would have sent the meal back. Now I'm out $50 and I still have a hungry kid. Sorry, no more chances Margaritas. read more

Margaritas is as Mexican as Maine gets. But what would you expect in a state that considers flat landers (people from Massachusetts) and Massholes (again people from Massachusetts) to be foreigners? Look around. The only competition is Taco Bell. Yes the food is a bit bland (Margaritas and Taco Bell) but just add some hot sauce to spice it up. It's just what you would expect- chips and salsa, fancy margaritas, good selection of beer and a solid, predictably cheesy menu. We had a very nice meal here. Our waitress was lovely and very chatty. I have been to Margarita's on several occasions for post-work socializing and it is just fine for that. We normally go on Thursday nights to take advantage of Ladies' Night (40% off all meals when you dine in the lounge). The margaritas are strong and the complimentary chips and salsa are tops. The food is pretty standard American-Mexican (I've had the pork and green chile enchiladas and the baha mahi fish tacos), but the portions are generous. Service isn't great, but it's not prohibitive. Parking can sometimes be difficult during happy hour (there is currently construction going on that has taken over a large part of the parking lot). I would have given a ZERO star. It took us over an hour and a half for our food. It wasn't busy at all. My boyfriend is allergic to tomato's. Everyone at the table told the waiter that he was allergic. When we got our food there was tomato's in his. The waiter didn't come back over for another 15 minutes. When we said something he acted like we didn't say anything. He took the food back and went to the kitchen to get a new one made. The manager came to the table. She was all pissed off. We were annoyed that we wanted for over an hour just so one of us cannot eat. She said to tell us that we should have said something I told her that everyone did tell him. Multiple times. She continued to argue with us that we were wrong and didn't say anything. Then she was telling us that he was eating the salsa. Which the salsa was not even near him and he told her he didn't. She turned around said something under her breathe while rolling her eyes. I never leave a horrible review like this. But that was the worse customer services I've ever had. Especially from the manager. We will never go back here for the fact that we had to go somewhere else for him to get food. read more

This is by far the BEST Mexican food in the state of Maine! We have enjoyed this restaurant for years and make it a point to go every time we are in town. The chips & salsa is fantastic - and the chicken quesadilla is delicious. My favorite margarita of ALL TIME is the Russel-Rita - named after a bartender. The chips and salsa is a good appetizer although I think they could do a little more with the salsa, pretty standard fare. Our server was great. Very apologetic when it took a while to get drinks. It was Friday night and the bar was hopping. The drinks are good but not great and pretty pricey in my opinion. I suggest upgrading your tequila. It is worth the extra charge. I love the decor. The best of any Mexican restaurant I have visited. The place is full of interesting stuff to look at while you enjoy your drink. Finally, I had the seafood taco sampler. We came here with a party of 7 people. I've grown up in this area and had never went with more than a few people, which was wise in hindsight. The food was great quality. We enjoyed our meals immensely. Our waiter was incredibly friendly. We had ordered three different margaritas (one was a traditional, I can't quite remember what the others were) and we were quite pleased with them. It's Tuesday the 27th and it's busy. But not so busy that we had to wait to be seated (and with a party of 7, that's really rare). The atmosphere was nice, the music wasn't too loud, and we had an overall okay time. I knocked a star from this review because of how long it took for our food to come out. It was at least 45 minutes after we ordered, and when we did, only half of the orders came out. The second star was docked because when the food finally did come to our table, half of the dishes were only medium warm and our drinks weren't refilled. We had the manager come and speak to us, but my sweet grandmother didn't complain. The table next to us had part of their meal comped who was having a harsher experience than our table (they also had a screaming child, so we were by default having a better time). I've always enjoyed this restaurant and is a personal favorite, I hope to have a higher review in the future. read more

Tried to go to this restaurant for dinner... we were given a buzzer and told the wait would be 20-25 minutes. After watching several parties (that came after us) just walk in and take tables that were being vacated by diners, we were told by the hostess that if we could find a table we could just take it... we had walked in originally thinking there might be seats at the bar. There was just 1, we needed 2. There were seats on the patio that we would have loved to take but we went out to the hostess station and asked about them. We were told that the restaurant was at capacity so we would have to wait... so which is it? We left and will not be back without a specific invite. No longer a restaurant we will choose. The Margaritas are the best I have had so far in the state and I truly have tasted many at dif places! The only complaint is the Parking..they should of used part of the large space for the new hotel out back..maybe had some agreement for space to share..and wish they were open every day at 11am..Augusta is a busy place and many people like to eat lunch..they would get the business still! so overall I love it here! read more
